Logs
Due to the now inaccessability of the road leading to this once lovely picnic ground we will archive this one so as to discourage anyone from climbing gates or fences.
So sorry to see it go as it was an amazing location.
Cheers and happy caching!

Time to archive these. There is a big gate with barbed wire 500m down the road. One could get in but it would be a mission. It’s just not worth it.

If someone is thinking about going out to visit this cache it would be appreciated if a container and log could be taken out there to trade for the current one which is apparently in urgent need. Sorry, but due to the closure I cannot get to it but we've left it active because some cachers are still enjoying their visit out there. Cheers and happy caching!
TFTC. Had to use ninja skills to get to this cache as the main gates were closed. After a long walk (2hr round trip) found the cache and imagined the zombie apocalypse. Walked across the dam and attempted to walk up road until an employee from SEQ arrived and told us to leave.
After not finding GC2GDDN Little Nerang River, it was time to move forward towards 'Fig - Not'. So quiet. Abandon a place long enough and nature will always win. GZ was an interesting looking area. You could see what it used to be like. A generous hint helped located the cache. The container was full of water and the logbook was mush. We dried out what we could and replaced the log with some paper and a new bag. Photos were taken before heading back to the car. Thanks for the cache.. a very different type of adventure now than when originally placed! Fav
Cheers

What a great spot! This is what caching is all about ... I know the original intention wasn't to create a spooky 'end of the world' adventure but the transformation of this cache is really interesting.
The picnic area looks like a Chernobyl type scene, minus dolls and creepy old Soviet era toys. All the buildings and benches are left in place and nature is clawing everything back at a decent rate. I have included a few pictures so you can contrast them with Brother Colin's pics taken 6 months ago.
I encourage other cachers to do the same, so we can see how this area changes with time.
Cache had been left upside down and was waterlogged. I don't know if leaving it the right way up would have helped... We added a fresh log in an new zip-lock.
This was great, the journey was interesting. You do have to negotiate a razor-wire fence but there's a human sized gap around the edge.

On the week-end I drove past here heading up the mountain for a few hiking type caches.
It was then that I remembered the couple of caches up this road.
So with the MTB packed I headed this way after work today.
I easily slipped around the side of the fence along the very well worn path. (There were 4 cars parked here today)
The GPSr had me spot on for this one. A quick find.
Now to PAF for the previous one and get a little info about the archived one up this way.
Thanks for the cache.

Well I've had the three caches out here on my watch list for quite awhile now. Dam Buster had been archived and after checking out the Seqwater website, this one and Little Nerang River are probably not to far behind. Apparently the access road to the dam will never be opened again due to stability problems caused by the 2013 Australia Day down pour. So this little treasure will never be seen by the public anymore. I have been here once before as a wee little kid, so as far as memory's go, I have none. Now that I'm old enough to appreciate places like this I was very disappointed to find out access is no longer possible.
So a few weeks ago I checked out the satellite view and spotted a side entry, mmm, I wonder?
6am sunday seemed like the best time to have a sneaky go at these three caches and the chance to check out the dam.
I parked up and started my walk down hill towards GZ. Straight of the bat this track is steep. I was sinking into my boots on the way down. My toes were pushing into the steel caps and I was sure by the time I got to the bottom I would have worn through my socks. On the return leg I was nearly walking out of my boots. The track climbs up 150m in altitude in about 500m, a 30 degree gradient at times, it was a hard slog back up. I managed to walk the 6k round trip within 2 hours which included searching and a bit of time spent at the dam wall, not to bad I thought.
If you have ever watched the T.V. series called The Walking Dead, then you will know the feeling I had while walking along the road in here. As I approached the end of the road the view before me really did look like a scene out of the show. An empty play ground, picnic tables and carpark with mother nature desperately trying to take it all back over. I headed straight for GZ before checking out the view. I went to the obvious spot first but the gps changed it's mine so I took a moment to check the hint and read a few logs. Mmm, looking, looking, looking, ah what about over there. Gotcha. Cache was covered in some type of ants but otherwise in good condition. Added my name to the log and placed it back in it's hide, possibly never to be found again. While there I spotted at least 6 beautiful red rosella's picking at the fruit on the giant fig tree's near by. I wandered down towards the top of the dam and ah maybe thats why it's closed. A 3m sink hole in the middle of the pathway, so I went back up and around before heading over to check out the amazing view.
TFTC Aussie Liahona, not the way the cache was intended to be found but I enjoyed it more then if I had have just driven to GZ.

We're keeping an eye on this road and therefore this cache. There was so much damage from flooding all around the Gold Coast it looks like this is about the last road for repair. We'll enable it as soon as we can.
T-Tech had to go down to Springbrook for work, and I joined him on the road trip While he was up at the radio site working, I got to go caching for a couple of hours [^]
I picked up the cache at the start of this road, then decided to drive along and check if it was still closed. Sure enough, it is, and so still no access to this cache or 'Little Nerang River'

Came by today to check on the situation regarding the open/closed road. It is currently closed.
Please come and try again another day and see if the gates are open. In the meantime.............

What a fantastic picnic area, and was well worth the trip along this lovely winding little road. At GZ we were barking up the wrong tree for a little while before uncovering the hide. There are some really great parks we have come across today. Thanks to Aussie Liahona for the cache.
Had the area to ourselves on Friday morning so could search around a large feature unemcumbered, but it was only after reading the clues and logs about a broader radius that we figured the location out. TFTC, TNLN, SL. Also the cache is not disguised as a toad under a buttress, that one was real.
New Years Eve, last chance to log a cache for 2012
End of the road, hard to see the dam wall. All fenced off, I couldn't tell what they were doing.
Thanks for another great cache Aussie Liahona

Oh!! searched for sooooo long, read the hint, then searched the same area again, it was only after expanding the search that I found a likely spot!!
Thanks AL!
Thanks AL!
No visitors to contend with but 4 SEQ water vehicles were parked in the carpark! We allayed their suspicions by taking a lunch break here and soon enough they lost interest. We found the coords to be 10-15m out but after using the hint, eventually found the correct location. Thanks Aussie Liahona
We were wanting to spend the day away from the crowds and the quiet road to the dam drew us onwards. When we arrived MacPacDad said there must be a cache up here. Logged in and sure enough... MacPacDad also managed to score the find. The area that has has so much spent on the facilities left us feeling a bit sad as the security fencing keeping you away from the dam reminded us of the same sort of fencing that is keeping you out of the 'red zones' at home in earthquake hit Christchurch. So we didn't stay long but headed off to explore more of the beautiful hinterland.
Luckily the picnicking muggles were just leaving because they were a little too close for comfort. Love the big trees. Thanks Aussie Liahona
With our GZ about 10m off where we found it, we found the clue invaluable. The dam was finally visible through the safety fencing, and the mum and her daughters near GZ packed up and left as we arrived, so it was easy to search in peace. Have to wonder, though, why the water in the picnic area right next to a dam is not potable!! TFTC, Aussie Liahona. =^.^=
Found after a long search thanks to some visitors who sat directly in front of us and lack of receptinon. TFTC
Would of been great to of read the cache name before diving in to the search. But found it in the end. TNLN and signed. Found with JJBoards. First find of the day. Shame you can't walk the Dam Wall anymore.
No one around today and was an easy find as it was on the ground so all could see next to its hiding place .Signed log on replaced the cache with some cover. Nothing seemed to be missing . Probably found by some child who did not know what it was. TFTC Gotcha16
Found with Eauman Oz. could just see water spilling over the dam. Thanks Aussie Liahona.
Found while out with my mum {Whint & Baddal} and my sister {Gambler2000} & Captain Terror

The end of this road with Whint and Baddal today and being that it was after 5, I guess the 4PM close time isn't the strictest rule in the land. I was amazed at the tree and as I was checking it out, the cache was found with the aid of the hint and description. Inside were 4 TB's, 3 of which had no hitchiker. Turns out they had been missing for several years, lucky owners I guess. There is a fence stopping people walking down to the wall, but I could see it is still spilling over a little bit. A wonderful spot here that I've never turned off to visit. TFTC Aussie Liahona
Found with Captain Terror and geokids near the end of a very big day caching D-Man was super happy to find this one himself... took the 4 TB's that were in the cache {they were not logged in apparently} seems 2 of them had been missing for 4-5 years.... wow... one all the way from Canada and the other from WA.... bet the owners will be glad to see they have been found again
Anyways, back in the car to make our way back down the mountain

The road is currently closed. However if you turn up and it's opened you may go in and log the cache. I'll enable it as soon as I know it's opened.
Tried for this one today, but due to road damage from the flooding, the road is closed. Perhaps this one could be disabled until it is available again
After searching around the wrong area instead of following the gps we found the cache.
Sneaky little spot and glad there were no muggles around as it would surely be a dnf.
Went for a wander down onto the dam wall for a look. It was flowing from all the rain, was really quite a sight!

We enjoyed a pleasant drive up the narrow road without meeting any oncoming traffic.
There were a few cars in the car park and of course muggles were occupying the picnic shelter.
This made the hunt a bit more difficult but luckily I found it in the first place I looked. I wandered off with the cache and signed the log then returned and tied a shoe lace as I replaced it.
Thanks Aussie Liahona a lovely setting for a picnic but we didn't linger.

We had the whole area to ourselves on this Wednesday afternoon. A lovely peaceful spot for a picnic it was too.
Having no reception up here we were again stuck in ye olde caching world with no phone app, description, logs or hints, just co-ords on the old etrex for this one. Mr N impressed with a very quick find under such harsh conditions

What a lovely place...walked down to the dam, swung on the swings, climbed the tree....felt like a kid again great hiding spot. took trackable.TFTC!
Stopped by for some lunch and a cache. Unfortunately we'd just finished lunch when the weed spraying truck arrived and drove right along poisoning GZ as it went. We didn't think it would be a good idea to start our search then. We'll have to come back another time.
Grr, we never got here today as the two walks we tackled through Springbrook took up a huge chuck of the day. But we'll be back to grab these ones soon.
Thanks for checking on the cache for us Aussie Liahona... [^]

Ah, I don't know where the last cachers were looking, but this cache was still there waiting to be found.
Go get it....

What a really nice quiet picnic spot.
There where a couple of muggles enjoying a BBQ but they where far enough away not to worry us.
We also had a look down at the dam wall, pity no water was going over, it would have been good to see.

Retrieved our very first travel bug! Took smiley puzzle keyring and left a fish. Lovely spot and loved the name of this cache! TFTC!
Not a muggle to be seen when I arrived at this one. I had gathered from previous logs that it was not up the hill. I decided to look in another area that I thought matched the title.. or not as it were. I decided to widen my search and then I soon found the cache.. and a gazillion large red ants (I think they are jumping ants?) I soon grabbed the beast from its hide and did the "returning thing". Ants were flying everywhere but I managed to get it back okay. Left a TB. TFTC Aussie Liahona - this area is very pretty
What a brilliant little picnic area. When we arrived we were all alone. Retrieved the cache and then went for a walk down to the dam. On the way back a whole tribe of muggles turned up. How lucky were we? It's funny, you ask yourself are these cachers as well? We took the hopehedoesnoteatus coin and left a racing car. TFTC
Found with bedmaker today.
Nice hide. There were muggles enjoying a bbq nearby, it smelt great.

Found while on a holiday from Adelaide. We've been to Springbrook many times, but never detoured down this way. Thanks for showing us this location.
We understand the name of the cache now we've been to GZ.
There was some water going over the spillway which was a great site.

Wow, it looks like I was recreating Herbz caching effort from yesterday. (I only realised this when I started seeing their name in the logbooks)
I also decided to do the three caches near Little Nerang Dam and also left my run a bit late.
I decided to grab this one first and work my way back to the gate before it was locked at 4.00 PM.
I got to the dam at about 3.00PM and grabbed a few photos of the dam and then went in search of the cache.
My GPS was all over the place. I also ended up climbing up the embankment in search of the cache. The cacher's trail I saw was probably from Mr Herbz yesterday. On the way back down I spotted something that I had passed a few times and the cache was in hand in no time.
TFTC Aussie L. I took a frog and left a shell. I also left a fancy geo-coin. It wants to travel so maybe a passing tourist might help it on it's way.
The gate closes in about half an hour so I better get going and find the other two. The funny thing is that some muggles have just started to have a BBQ..... hopefully they have bolt cutters for the padlocked gate.

Only 15 minutes to find this last one before lock-in!!! Coords had us scrambling up high but then from our lofty vantage point we spotted a likely hidey hole and we quickly slithered down to make the find. Got out with 5mins to spare. Nice hide. TFTC.
A First to Find on my birthday! How lovely. Only thing lovelier would have been 2 First to Finds, but iPhone could not get any reception after I left this cache.Co-ordinates did not match up too well, but the hint was easy to find. I left a $50 key ring ha ha and decided the scratchie could be consolation for the 2nd to find. Took some photos of the dam full to overflowing so will log later today. Thanks for the Birthday Present Aussie L.
