We came for the Mega and have been around SI finding more caches daily. It seems we can make the numbers just from the past couple of weeks. Found with MummyPenny on this drizzly day. Day #4 Blenheim to Nelson - The Mega New Zealand ExperienceA chance for an overseas Mega was too good to pass up. Especially with half the state seeming to be attending also. I set about some last minute planning. Flights still available Accommodation found Mode of transport securedLooks like its time to cross the ditch. Ive never visited the South Island before so it is bound to be a fun filled trip. After a lovely stop in Blenheim overnight (with a bonus wood fireplace!), it was off to Nelson today via Picton. It was a mad dash to find these so I wasnt late for dinner. Fortunately I didnt have to complete the paperwork before dinner or it would have been very cold. It is definitely a positive that challenges must now have checkers to produce the results. I got there in the end!GC-code Cache name Terrain FoundGC84F6All The Vowels112/10/2024GC9J401KCT - A bend in the Creek1.52/10/2024GC8GJ2PBotanica23/10/2024GC23AMHOn Top of Jeffcott2.55/10/2024GC9WMZKA Wandering Mystery315/09/2024GC58PB5Rural #2: Woolshed Swamp3.55/10/2024GC8254VForging the Porongurups416/09/2024GCAJA7WBR06 Blackwood River by Hook or by Crook #6 522/09/2024GC5CNPXPants on fire! As mentioned in other BGSc cache logs, I'm back in NZ with my older son (who had never been out of Oz before this trip) with a purpose of finding this great Challenge series. My initial log as Note for this cache was back in October 2012, so I will repeat it here:Well, the 'last' subject for the BGSc. It's been a LOT of FUN comparing the Challenges around, and I'm very grateful for your permission to go quite similar for South Bro 104, GC3WMBT. While it is only a Certificate level Challenge the terrain to get the series is heavier duty I believe. I also include (at no expense) Wink South Bro 105 - Difficult Distance Ed, and I'll include my qualifying caches for that here.(Can't find my own cache now, can I)1 GC3M14J Geocaching NSW 2012 AGM, 5/8/121 GC30EYF Kooloonbung Kache, 5/6/122 GC1QJ6V Waterfront Vistas, 23/5/122 GC1640Y Mixed Nuts, 15/5/123 GC1Q8HA Old Darwin Hospital, 30/5/123 GC386C4 Cairncross #1, Time Tunnel, 29/4/124 GC3PWH4 Rocky Ravine, 2/9/124 GC2K0PY Oswalds Hunter, 21/9/125 GC2J5TB Muggle More Than Welcome To Watch, 19/7/12Then 10 x caches, at 10km increments from my closest placed cache, (with Difficulty x Terrain Matrix) for South Bro 105, GC3WMBV (in 6 months)Closest placed cache GC161E3, Andrews Reserved a Dance for Me0 10km GC2XV11 Endeavour, Endeavour & Endeavour 4/3/12 3x3= 12.2511 20km GC353DH Diamond Views forever 24/3/12 1x2= 221 30km GC2FZH5 Wallflowers Wallflowers Growing Up so High 24/4/12 4x1.5= 631 40km GC2NFGY Annie Leibovitz 25/4/12 2x2= 441 50km GC2MF62 Bucketts Scenic Walk 14/4/12 3x4= 1251 60km GC27G9V Under the shadows 10/5/12 3x4= 1461 70km GC2ZKQH Stand and Deliver 25/4/12 2x3= 8.7571 80km GC30V5H A Tuppence Worth 12/5/12 2x4= 1081 90km GC283E #29 Great Southern Land: (3) Yacaaba 15/5/12 2x3= 8.7591 100km GC2KKXN The Devils Chair 4/8/12 3x3=10.5TOTAL Difficulty: 88.25So, while I had found some caches with a higher DxT matrix they fell outside of the Six months period I selected, so aren't included. Always good to read the fine print, I thought I had to find the caches to qualify for this one AFTER doing the other BGSc - but no.As long at they are still active (check) and found within 12months (check) - after realising that, I checked my finds starting with a T5 (to have it as the last) and went from there. List below.Thursday evening then a nice walk to the container to sign, easily found and no one around. Visiting from the state of Washington in the United States. We flew into Wellington. After the Te Papa museum and finding the oldest cache in New Zealand, we took the ferry to Picton. We went out to Lochmara Lodge for a day and then drove through Havelock to Nelson. We had a fun event with local geocachers in Nelson, then yesterday decided to take the water taxi from Marahou to Anchorage Bay to hike the trails including out to Pitt Head. We had lunch at Pitt Head Lookout. We had a great fun finding caches along the way. Ended up with 4 finds and only one DNF.Today I was out in Richmond and Nelson looking for some challenges and traditionals as well as my first letterbox in New Zealand. It was a fun morning. Now on to qualifying for the challenge.

Nelson to Picton today as we are soon heading over to the North Island. As we had some time in our hands we decided to pick up a few more of those puzzles that we had looked at and solved months ago in preparation for our trip here. This was a challenge that we qualified for and so we headed over to GZ - we recall we had tried to look for this last time we were here (2019) but we're thwarted by a blocked path due to Ash dieback ( we added a photo of the closed path back then)Anyhow all food today and a quick find at GZ TFTCTim and Viv - ddm

This week is the only ‘free’ week I have till January so I decided to visit Nelson so I could have the letters ‘BGSc’ after my name, and start my ‘MGSc’. I have known about this series of caches for a few years and never thought I could complete them. Well, that was until a geocaching friend, who completed the Bachelor’s and Masters this year, thought I would qualify and kept gently reminding me to check my logs. I did and I qualified. All of the caches in this list have been specifically chosen for a variety of reasons; my favourite two being GCY3GR Under the Goal Post (West Coast) and GC8Z2AK Re (Wellington).

Kia ora rawa atu for the cache Marchwood.

A mid-winter weekend trip down to the top of the South Island (from Wellington). I flew down to Blenheim of Friday afternoon and drove to Nelson on Saturday. As a result of not setting my Geocaching notifications correctly I ended up driving back to Blenheim on Sunday morning chasing a first to find (I failed), and then driving straight back to Nelson for a successful first to find. Amongst other reasons, I was here collecting a few caches I had on my radar, and this was one of them.

One of my main goals for this trip was to add to my list of qualifications, and finally gain my BGSc. Qualifying caches are:

One of my sons in Whangarei is going on an OE. He sold his car to his brother Tim in Dunedin and fortunately for me Tim wanted me to drive the car down. Of course I jumped at the idea of a geocaching roadie. I've had lots of puzzles solved for such a long time so geoarts were the main target of the trip.

In Palmy area I wanted the shield series and the 20/20 geoart. Then Wairarapa was stickman (which we ran out of time for), the new M geoart and some archived skindo challenges. Wellington was finishing off the kiwi geoart. Nelson I had a few challenges I wanted before heading to Christchurch. It was family time there and perhaps the smile series but time ran out again. Off to Dunedin for the airplane geoart. Then it was time to fly home to say goodbye to my son heading to Denmark.

It was great to have my friend Supernanny come along on the trip for company. We had a wonderful trip and fantastic weather apart from one afternoon. Now it's time to start writing the massive backlog of logs which is taking a while.

These BGSc challenges were my main reason to come to Nelson. Another quick find here. Thanks for the fun challenge Smile

Upon discovering this series I was keen to be involved. I have done the work to determine my qualifications which are in the write note below. Today was the day of my intrepid adventure to sign the logs. On this trip I didn't want to rent a car - I was keen to go old school. Well I walked from the airport to nearest bus stop and missed bus by about 10mins. Next one was a hour away and would have missed the Richmond western loop I needed to get here, which was also on the 1 to 1.5 hr cycle. So the intrepid geocacher called a taxi! She then duly chased down her four important caches which were all present and in good order - whew. Walking back to the nearest bus route on Weasley road and flagging the bus also failed. I wasn't looking for such a small mini van and it was past before you know it - you guessed it another 1.5 hrs. So walked into Richmond (via a AL at the cemetry) and bus to Nelson. Tomorrow is bus to Picton for the compass crossover challenge and then the Tory Straight cache to Wellies. I feel this journey suitably meets the requirements of a geocaching bachelor's qual Smile Thank you for keeping this going - very much appreciated. We love the challenges. TFT Qual Smile Fav for this one as I had to go searching for a terrain 5 to qualify.

Another big thank you to the adoptive CO for maintaining this cache in the series. I was by a little while ago and didn't find the cache. I began to wonder if I had the right coords, which I did, but still no cache. When I saw this one was replaced, I just had to pop over for the find.

Just as I arrived at GZ, there was RaynPengi trotting down the path after finding other caches up there. We had a nice chat and I wished him well with his trip to Nelson and journey back to Invercargill.

On a west coast adventure and on our way to Nelson for a few days . My first time to travel up the west coast of the south island In 20 years so this time we get to cache our way in to uncharted territory, so let's see what fun adventures awaite us bring it on.
Day five of our road trip , to day we are exploring the Nelson area ,let's see what fun adventures awaite us.
I could not pass this one up as I know I have the needed requirements to log .
I covered all sorts of terrain from the flat beachs of northland to the rolling hills of the mid north island forests and then on to the Richmond range and back to the beachs of Southland on my 3000km though hike of nz on the Te Araroa trail. Ps the Richmond range was the part of the trail I enjoyed the most . Havelock to st Arnaud in 6 days yup I had my hiking legs on .
But have more recent finds to make up this one.
Cool challenge thanks
I love getting the hard to get to one it just more rewarding.

Getting out and about int the out doors is my happy place so any excuse to go caching.

Life is short. Live one foot step at a time.Never say" I'm gonna "- Just do it!!
Thanks for the hide

**S41 21.475 E173 11.002** - haqre svsgu fgrc

Found at 25 January 2021 9:08 am on day two of a short holiday to the Nelson-Tasman region. As it's an area I haven't cached in before (and a long time since I've visited), I of course wanted to pick up some caches (but not as many as I would have liked, but family came first on this one). Thanks to all the cache owners for putting these out.

I had trouble with this one. I saw that the cache had been replaced in a new location, but the coordinates hadn't been updated. I contacted paddle chick in case she was online to see if I could get the updated coordinates while I was up the track but didn't hear back until I had already moved on.

paddle chick did eventually contact me so I returned up the track and found the cache straight away in it's new hiding spot. Signed the log and attempted to replace, but the aggregate that was sitting above had sunk a little so I couldn't quite get the cache all the way in, but covered up with rocks. Again this replacement cache doesn't have the code in it to help solve for the BGSc final. TFTC

Day 6 of my 2020 NZE (New Zealand Experience).
(My apologies for the delayed logging but I'm in catch-up mode)

Seeing as I can't be in America right now, I'm touring around the South Island instead. During my time here I am aiming to find as many of the TMGT caches as I can (preferably all 41) and also as many Virtuals, Earthcaches and Letterbox Hybrids as possible, plus any Trads or others that will fill a hole in my D/T grid, my Jasmer grid, or else the last 3 remaining Hidden Dates on that grid.

Today was going to be a very long drive, going from Westport all the way up to Farewell Spit which is somewhere I have longed to visit for a very long time. I've been close, but never quite made it all the way up there before. The great weather of the last few days continued to follow me around the island too, which always helps set a good mood for a road trip.

This particular cache fills a hole in my D/T cache, so I was hoping for a quick and easy find, but as it turns out after extensive searching and ultimately speaking with the effective caretaker of this cache, it had gone walkies during some site improvements. I am logging this find with express permission. My qualifications are as follows;

All caches found between 21/10/18 and 13/10/19, and the last qualifying cache was the T5

With our grid completed 9x we easily qualify for this, however on arrival at the the start of the park to h we noted it was closed sign saying 'Path closed off due to the risk of fires.'
We were not going to risk the trip and feel the CO should disable this until the path is reopened
Though a shame that we weren't able to sign as we qualified

Meanwhile this is my third geocaching-trip to Middle-Earth Smile. And I love it! [:X]
Still there are routes and places in this beautiful country that are on the 'discover-me' list and want to be visited and explored. Smile.
Although Nelson was already part of the tour back in 2017, due to the bad Twisted weather [xx(] Sad there was not much of caching [B)] then.
So today (#24) with splendid, sunny Smile weather was dedicated to make up for that and to tour around the beautiful area of Nelson and Richmond - by foot Razz and by car Wink.
There were some cool challenge-caches to be collected Big Grin....
And on top, the goal was to manage finding 7 different cache-types in one single day - YESSSS!!! [^] CoolSmileBig GrinSmileCool [^]
So I was busy to pick up a lot of cute local treasures [^] - just like this one:
To get hold of this one was quite an adventure Wink!
The path was closed due to fire danger Surprised so what I did was somehow illegal Red Face. But I did it Big Grin!
The box is hidden on private ground ?! Wink
Thanks to the owner [:X] for placing and maintaining this cache and best regards from Germany! SmileSmile

A quick find with TregearP whilst out in the area today. First time we'd been up this track which certainly gave the legs a workout as we made our way to the top.

Hadn't seen this series previously but checked them out before we left to find that we both qualified for the four initial ones - and then the next challenge starts.

All in good order, signed log and replaced as found. Thanks for the cache and series beltfamily.

Found this cache a little exposed, so found a rock to place in front of it. No problems getting the required full house of T ratings, thanks for the cache Belt Family.

Today I decided on a trip to Nelson with a pretty open agenda. I had noticed that my D/T matrix is a not flattering 55, and has gained only one in the last 6.5 months. Not good. So I targeted some that may help that, as well as a few for the the hidden month matrix, and of course any others that get in the way. Not hugely productive but a good day anyway - spent too much time revisiting some that have been causing me problems....

I'ive started my beautiful trip of the South Island in Christchurch, I've visited many beautiful locations. I've travelled via Lake Tapeko, from Dunedin to the most southern part of Bluff. I've then continued with a cruise in Milford Sound and then back to Queenstown.
From there on I've visited Wanaka and the Haast pass to the Franz Josef glacier. I went all the way up to the Abel Tasman NP. Richmond und Nelson as the sonnierst cities were on my list as well.
I've soon reached the east coast in Picton and Blenheim.
After a couple of days, I've then travelled back to Christchurch via Kaikoura.
I've spent a couple of days in Christchurch and it's surroundings.
I've visited many geological sites and have found many caches along the way.
I've travelled 3500km and have experienced so much.
Thank you to all the owners

I'm from Norway, escaping the cold winter and travelling around New Zealand for 7 weeks, using geocaching as my tourguide. Today I spent the day in rainy Nelson, focusing on virtual caches and challenge-caches.

New Zealand ... a dream for every traveling [8)]
A little more than 20 years ago I've been here, but since then much has changed Red Face and that's also good! Now I'm back here ... 1 week North Island and 2 weeks South Island ... cool [^] Of course, I want to visit a few caches. Especially dissolved puzzle caches, which I find particularly attractive Red Face Best thanks to all the owners !! Greetings from the Swiss "Kiwi" Wink

Natürlich rauchte der Fotoapparat, man will ja zuhause nochmals alles anschauen Red Face

Together with arbor95 I am on a holiday tour in New Zealand. Cool

We are two Germans, old friends since a long time. Together we visited a lot of other countries in the past, even before we started geocaching. [^]

For our trip we usually looking for some extraordinary caches. Wink

Therefore we had mostly a lot of fun. Big Grin

#8632. Having qualified for BGSc 401, we went to Hill Street in Richmond for a brisk walk up the hill to find and sign the log book. The track and GZ were all quiet when we visited. Found after a short search. The cache was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

Here are our qualifying caches:

#2801. After attending a funeral in Blenheim yesterday, I decided to spend the night in Nelson and give myself a chance to make start on the very large numbers of caches in this region. I have made a pretty big dent on local caches in Wellington so it is rather fun to be in an area where every street has a pile of caches waiting to be discovered. By 4pm when I dropped off the rental car at the airport, I had managed to harvest 37 caches between Nelson and Motueka (plus one more cache in Wellington to fulfil the requirements for the "North and South Island in One Day Challenge" GC5RJFK). My primary focus was picking up challenge caches in the Nelson area. So here I was on a fine Saturday morning hunting the BGSc prerequisite caches. I parked nearby and headed up the foot path. I searched around where the GPS suggested it should be but couldn't find the cache. So widened the search area working along the fence line until I felt the container under grass behind the fence. Sweet as was starting to get a bit worried it had gone missing. Signed the log, recorded the code and replaced cache as found. Thanks for the challenge and the cache.

Once in a lifetime we wanted to travel to the other side of the world. This year we took a chance and made a 4 weeks trip to New Zealand! Although caching was not the main purpose, we had our GPS prepared and when we were close to a cache, we of course looked for it and logged it. So we found several dozens of "kiwi-caches" and want to thank all the owners!!

Today we had a challenge day in the region of Nelson. First of all we wanted to get our BGSc, seems to be the equivalent of the german "Jodeldiplom". So we absolved the 4 courses before. This is our result for 401:

GC1YM41 2011-09-08 4.5 Right in the middle of NOWHERE

Now that I have finally logged all my geocaches in New Zealand, I can finally start checking the logged challenges on our world trip. For this challenge it took a little longer to check the required criteria, as there is no automatic checker. But it looks like the short walk together with Silli1310 to the challenges on 27.12.2014 was worth it, as I am now fulfilling this challenge. All caches where finde within 30.12.2014 and 14.01.2015 (~ 2 weeks, which are less than 12 month) and the last qualifing cache has a difficulty of D5.0 and were found on 14. January. Thanks for the cache and the challenge.

Last summer the idea was born to visit [Green]'New Zealand'[/Green], together with [url=http://coord.info/PR3NXJG][red]'MimiNemo'[/red][/url] Razz
After some important decisions regarding the beginning of our trip, the flights, the general route and the car were made, the most important question was still unanswered: which caches can we visit during our tour [?]
To get an answer for this topic I was fetching almost every cache from both islands Red Face[8)][:X]
[url=http://coord.info/PR3NXJG][red]'MimiNemo'[/red][/url] and I love [Teal]'Geo-Arts'[/Teal]...so we added all these cache series to our wish list Cool
After this decision was made this list was more than 300 puzzle caches long...unsolved puzzle caches Surprised
Two weeks before Christmas it was getting time to start solving all these mystery caches Wink
Even with the different language I could find almost every solution Cool
In the case I was not so successful I was contacting some of the CO's...and was always getting help from them...many thanks for this support [:X]

During the following weeks our cache list was growing and growing...meanwhile more than 1000 caches long...too long for a simple bookmark list from GC Sad
Time to get our route and caches in sync...time to save the PQ's to our Garmins...time to start this holiday:

Chapter 14: [green]Westport[/green] to [red]Picton[/red]
Our last day at the southern island [8)]Sad
On our long drive to [red]Picton[/red] we stopped of course for some caches [:X]

This challenge cache of a great challenge series was one of them Wink
My nine qualifying caches are the same as for [url=http://coord.info/PR3NXJG][red]'MimiNemo'[/red][/url] Razz

I would like to thank all the cache owners for showing us these great places and maintaining all these caches,

First trip away for the year and it had to be down to Wellington & Nelson to see customers and do a spot of Rep training. Arrived first thing this morning and it was straight over to Blenheim and back to this side of the hill for client meetings with the rep (and lots of coffee).

Collected this one after having been out to "Bulwer Drive By"
As I am working on my DT Grid this came up as one that I needed and so while in the area it was high on the importance to find stakes. So as soon as I could escape from work for the day it was to collect a multi and then head further afield to collect others, (This being one of them). When I told my rep where I was headed he said I was mad and that I wouldn't be back to well after midnight. I infact managed to be not only back but collected other challenge caches and back to the hotel in Nelson by 11.20pm.

PLease find Qualifying caches List
All Caches are currently active and where found between 11 AUG 2014 & 4 Jan 2015.

After we had been on the Abel Tasman Track for the last days, today we went to the North Island of New Zealand. But before we left the South Island, we quickly climbed a small view mountain above Nelson. Of course we were not only attracted by the view but also by the challenges on site. After our holiday and all the logged caches, I hope to turn this note into a find. So for now it served only as a memory for me. Thanks a lot for the cache

Thought I had this one sorted, then as I got to GZ today I realised that maybe my finds weren't going to cover the requirements after all (particularly the last 12 month rule). Luckily, after crunching the stats, it turns out I squeaked in with 8 days to spare, and I have to thank a cache found earlier in the day with getting me over the line ! Qualifying caches attached to this log - TFTC !

And the final in the series of 4 qualifying puzzles! This was the trickiest to find (in the dark), but still straight forward. All values for the final BGSc challenge now collected; hopefully I'll be able to get that one tomorrow!

A big days Geocaching has been planned for today with a plethora of solved puzzles, some B G S C caches to collect and graduate from, along with some good company in the shape of the Seagnoid, a caching buddy from Manawatu. Seagnoid also has some solved puzzles to find and I have some he hasn't found and....oh you get the picture.
A plan was hatched last night for an OH 6.30 start, after breakfast and caches were downloaded to respective G P S's, deleted, reloaded etc. Loads of faff. The forecast was a bit dodgy, high winds and possible rain so maybe tomorrow might be a better option, but when did a Geocacher make the right call and turn down a days caching? There was a virtual, some Earthcaches, numerous puzzles and some unfound Trads that either or both of us had not previously found, quite a balancing act and lots of miles and time consumed today. Graduated in a couple of Project G C badges too and got past 2600 caches so all in all a successful days caching.
Listed the qualifying caches for this when I had some time on my hands recently
