Muggle65 and l are visiting my Mum who recently moved from Australia to Blenheim. We have been enjoying driving her Clubman around. Fairly intense road from Blenheim to Nelson with all the logging trucks. We want to get as many of the caches on our list as we can, and still get back for Mum's roast. We parked as close as we could for this one and a quick find was made. Cache is in good condition here. Thank you for a fun challenge

Day #4 Blenheim to Nelson - The Mega New Zealand ExperienceA chance for an overseas Mega was too good to pass up. Especially with half the state seeming to be attending also. I set about some last minute planning. Flights still available Accommodation found Mode of transport securedLooks like its time to cross the ditch. Ive never visited the South Island before so it is bound to be a fun filled trip. After a lovely stop in Blenheim overnight (with a bonus wood fireplace!), it was off to Nelson today via Picton. It was a mad dash to find these so I wasnt late for dinner. Fortunately I didnt have to complete the paperwork before dinner or it would have been very cold. It is definitely a positive that challenges must now have checkers to produce the results. Visiting from the state of Washington in the United States. We flew into Wellington. After the Te Papa museum and finding the oldest cache in New Zealand, we took the ferry to Picton. We went out to Lochmara Lodge for a day and then drove through Havelock to Nelson. We had a fun event with local geocachers in Nelson, then yesterday decided to take the water taxi from Marahou to Anchorage Bay to hike the trails including out to Pitt Head. We had lunch at Pitt Head Lookout. We had a great fun finding caches along the way. Ended up with 4 finds and only one DNF.Today I was out in Richmond and Nelson looking for some challenges and traditionals as well as my first letterbox in New Zealand. It was a fun morning. Now on to qualifying for the challenge.

Last month's souvenir made me check again for this one as I had found different cache types in the month, but then I noticed a multi had to be the last. So I went off on the weekend for a Multi nearby and then came here.
I would have thought it's a quite place to look but there were at least three cars passing while I went to GZ, found, signed and replaced the log.
All caches were found in August & September this year (so after this GC was published and less then 6m apart), they are still all active:

This week is the only ‘free’ week I have till January so I decided to visit Nelson so I could have the letters ‘BGSc’ after my name, and start my ‘MGSc’. I have known about this series of caches for a few years and never thought I could complete them. Well, that was until a geocaching friend, who completed the Bachelor’s and Masters this year, thought I would qualify and kept gently reminding me to check my logs. I did and I qualified. All of the caches in this list have been specifically chosen for a variety of reasons. I had a good time finding how many different types I had found within a six month period this year.

Kia ora rawa atu for the cache Marchwood.

A mid-winter weekend trip down to the top of the South Island (from Wellington). I flew down to Blenheim of Friday afternoon and drove to Nelson on Saturday. As a result of not setting my Geocaching notifications correctly I ended up driving back to Blenheim on Sunday morning chasing a first to find (I failed), and then driving straight back to Nelson for a successful first to find. Amongst other reasons, I was here collecting a few caches I had on my radar, and this was one of them.

One of my main goals for this trip was to add to my list of qualifications, and finally gain my BGSc. Qualifying caches are:

One of my sons in Whangarei is going on an OE. He sold his car to his brother Tim in Dunedin and fortunately for me Tim wanted me to drive the car down. Of course I jumped at the idea of a geocaching roadie. I've had lots of puzzles solved for such a long time so geoarts were the main target of the trip.

In Palmy area I wanted the shield series and the 20/20 geoart. Then Wairarapa was stickman (which we ran out of time for), the new M geoart and some archived skindo challenges. Wellington was finishing off the kiwi geoart. Nelson I had a few challenges I wanted before heading to Christchurch. It was family time there and perhaps the smile series but time ran out again. Off to Dunedin for the airplane geoart. Then it was time to fly home to say goodbye to my son heading to Denmark.

It was great to have my friend Supernanny come along on the trip for company. We had a wonderful trip and fantastic weather apart from one afternoon. Now it's time to start writing the massive backlog of logs. It might take a while.

These BGSc challenges were my main reason to come to Nelson. I was disappointed not to get the bonus challenge as I forgot to collect the numbers on two of them. It was also a bit far away given we had to drive to Akaroa in Christchurch today. Another quick find. Thanks for the fun challenge Smile

Upon discovering this series I was keen to be involved. I have done the work to determine my qualifications which are in the write note below. Today was the day of my intrepid adventure to sign the logs. On this trip I didn't want to rent a car - I was keen to go old school. Well I walked from the airport to nearest bus stop and missed bus by about 10mins. Next one was a hour away and would have missed the Richmond western loop I needed to get here, which was also on the 1 to 1.5 hr cycle. So the intrepid geocacher called a taxi! She then duly chased down her four important caches which were all present and in good order - whew. Walking back to the nearest bus route on Weasley road and flagging the bus also failed. I wasn't looking for such a small mini van and it was past before you know it - you guessed it another 1.5 hrs. So walked into Richmond (via a AL at the cemetry) and bus to Nelson. Tomorrow is bus to Picton for the compass crossover challenge and then the Tory Straight cache to Wellies. I feel this journey suitably meets the requirements of a geocaching bachelor's qual Smile Thank you for keeping this going - very much appreciated. We love the challenges. TFT Qual Smile

Needed a cache today to up my finds for the day. Had checked qualifies and prefound this a month or two ago and actually spotted the cache which was a little exposed. Cant remember whether tried to rehide or not. Back today and no cache! Made a reasonable search then off back home to get a replacement. Still same hiding place (under rocks by post & a pill bottle. Hope it lasts a bit longer. TFTC

On a west coast adventure and on our way to Nelson for a few days . My first time to travel up the west coast of the south island In 20 years so this time we get to cache our way in to uncharted territory, so let's see what fun adventures awaite us bring it on.
Day five of our road trip , to day we are exploring the Nelson area ,let's see what fun adventures awaite us.
Yup I have found the needed cache types 7 in total and I found 6 different ones on my Te Araroa adventure. It was an amazing experience.
It was so amazing standing on top of mt Rantoul looking at Nelson thinking one day I will get there and yay I did but so much more to see and do .
Finding the road less traveled cache was an eye opener as I could show my partner the hill and mountain range I walk only a few months ago, the comment was shheezz your nuts and I said I loved it and want to go back .

No, there was no cache, no rock, no pipe - nothing. So we decided to replace this cache. It is a small pillbox now under rocks.

Actually managed to find them all on a single day.... and it was a special day as well

Found at 25 January 2021 8:13 am on day two of a short holiday to the Nelson-Tasman region. As it's an area I haven't cached in before (and a long time since I've visited), I of course wanted to pick up some caches (but not as many as I would have liked, but family came first on this one). Thanks to all the cache owners for putting these out.

It was a bit tricky to find this cache - as previously noted there's only one hint object present and it was a matter of elimination to find the right one. In any case I eventually got my hands on it, signed the log and recorded the code. All good here, and TFTC

In the 12 months before my last multi-find, I found nine different cache types:

GC7CZ1G, The Tokomaru Marine Terrace, 22/12/2019, Earth
GC8B61R, Heritage Trail Paraparaumu ( Kapiti ), 22/12/2019, Wherigo
GC8KB6D, Leap Year CITO - Hop to it!, 29/02/2020, CITO

We are holidaying in Nelson at present, mainly to spend time with some of Mr G’s family but hoping to fit in some geocaching when the opportunity arises.
We spent the afternoon with a family member today who kindly offered to take us to some caches. When we checked we found this one was actually in her neighbourhood and we qualified through a day seeking many different cache types during the MEGA in Wellington, 20.10. 2018. Seven of these were:
GC7WE39 Traditional
GC7B862 Virtual
GC2PG7H Unknown
GC2G28F Multi
GC7WA5G CITO
GC7YH1H LB4UH
GC1NBEX EarthCache

The find took a bit of searching for and where it was located only one of the three hint points actually pertained. We did wonder if the cache had moved a bit, but returned it where we found it - perhaps the CO might like to check. TFTC and the challenge.

Day 6 of my 2020 NZE (New Zealand Experience).
(My apologies for the delayed logging but I'm in catch-up mode)

Seeing as I can't be in America right now, I'm touring around the South Island instead. During my time here I am aiming to find as many of the TMGT caches as I can (preferably all 41) and also as many Virtuals, Earthcaches and Letterbox Hybrids as possible, plus any Trads or others that will fill a hole in my D/T grid, my Jasmer grid, or else the last 3 remaining Hidden Dates on that grid.

Today was going to be a very long drive, going from Westport all the way up to Farewell Spit which is somewhere I have longed to visit for a very long time. I've been close, but never quite made it all the way up there before. The great weather of the last few days continued to follow me around the island too, which always helps set a good mood for a road trip.

Having already found 401 and 301, I was hoping for a quick and easy find for 201 and so it turned out to be. The cache log itself was fairly damp and the whole thing has a feel of neglect but I was still happy to claim this find. My qualification is as follows;

All caches found whilst attending the WENZ Mega event in Wellington on 20/10/18, when I found 11 cache types on 1 day.

GC78NMQ MEGA
GC1NBEX Earthcache
GC7XXPF Letterbox Hybrid
GC6CWD3 Traditional
GC2G28F Multicache
GCEE0 Virtual
GC7WA5G CITO

Thanks for setting up this Challenge Cache.

In the area today and noting we had earmarked several challenge caches that we have qualified for we drove round to grab the caches and sign the logs
Here an easy find
We have been on a tour of NZ since 10 Jan and have found trads, multis, unknowns, letterbox, wherigo, earthcache, virtually and an event during that time. This cache was found easily and log signed

Meanwhile this is my third geocaching-trip to Middle-Earth Smile. And I love it! [:X]
Still there are routes and places in this beautiful country that are on the 'discover-me' list and want to be visited and explored. Smile.
Although Nelson was already part of the tour back in 2017, due to the bad Twisted weather [xx(] Sad there was not much of caching [B)] then.
So today (#24) with splendid, sunny Smile weather was dedicated to make up for that and to tour around the beautiful area of Nelson and Richmond - by foot Razz and by car Wink.
There were some cool challenge-caches to be collected Big Grin....
And on top, the goal was to manage finding 7 different cache-types in one single day - YESSSS!!! [^] CoolSmileBig GrinSmileCool [^]
So I was busy to pick up a lot of cute local treasures [^] - just like this one:
Plastic pipe was missing Wink, but I secured it with some small rocks and covred with grass Red Face.
Thanks to the owner [:X] for placing and maintaining this cache and best regards from Germany! SmileSmile

Logproof:

On February 04, 2017, I was happy to log eight different Cache-Types in one day:

I'ive started my beautiful trip of the South Island in Christchurch, I've visited many beautiful locations. I've travelled via Lake Tapeko, from Dunedin to the most southern part of Bluff. I've then continued with a cruise in Milford Sound and then back to Queenstown.
From there on I've visited Wanaka and the Haast pass to the Franz Josef glacier. I went all the way up to the Abel Tasman NP. Richmond und Nelson as the sonnierst cities were on my list as well.
I've soon reached the east coast in Picton and Blenheim.
After a couple of days, I've then travelled back to Christchurch via Kaikoura.
I've spent a couple of days in Christchurch and it's surroundings.
I've visited many geological sites and have found many caches along the way.
I've travelled 3500km and have experienced so much.
Thank you to all the owners

New Zealand ... a dream for every traveling [8)]
A little more than 20 years ago I've been here, but since then much has changed Red Face and that's also good! Now I'm back here ... 1 week North Island and 2 weeks South Island ... cool [^] Of course, I want to visit a few caches. Especially dissolved puzzle caches, which I find particularly attractive Red Face Best thanks to all the owners !! Greetings from the Swiss "Kiwi" Wink

Natürlich rauchte der Fotoapparat, man will ja zuhause nochmals alles anschauen Red Face

#2802. After attending a funeral in Blenheim yesterday, I decided to spend the night in Nelson and give myself a chance to make start on the very large numbers of caches in this region. I have made a pretty big dent on local caches in Wellington so it is rather fun to be in an area where every street has a pile of caches waiting to be discovered. By 4pm when I dropped off the rental car at the airport, I had managed to harvest 37 caches between Nelson and Motueka (plus one more cache in Wellington to fulfil the requirements for the "North and South Island in One Day Challenge" GC5RJFK). My primary focus was picking up challenge caches in the Nelson area. So here I was on a fine Saturday morning hunting the BGSc prerequisite caches. I parked nearby and followed a geotrail up to what I thought must be the cache hiding spot. Well I searched and searched but nothing was found. Finally decided to widen the search and found the cache in another logical place. Good to get the last code. Signed the log and replaced the cache as found. Thanks for the challenge and the cache.

Once again putting in the requirements for this cache since I will be in Nelson this weekend. The GSEL team have a Wellington challenge cache (GC5PAD6) based on the same concept but where the 7+ cache types must be found on the same day. A similar 7 + per day cache (GC2V7AM) is found in South Auckland. We did all seven caches on 14 Dec 2014.
Earthcache was Wellington Waterfront GC29KGV
Puzzle was The Streak GC4H90Z
Letterbox hybrid was The Jolly Postman GC1K9AC
Traditional was Wellington 360 GC1GFCM
Virtual was Mt Victoria (GEE0)
Multi was The Last Post (GC1WTA1)
Event was Boxhill Christmas Bunfight GC5F0JM
I see in the fine print that the multi has to be done last so adding this one

Once in a lifetime we wanted to travel to the other side of the world. This year we took a chance and made a 4 weeks trip to New Zealand! Although caching was not the main purpose, we had our GPS prepared and when we were close to a cache, we of course looked for it and logged it. So we found several dozens of "kiwi-caches" and want to thank all the owners!!

Today we had a challenge day in the region of Nelson. First of all we wanted to get our BGSc, seems to be the equivalent of the german "Jodeldiplom". So we absolved the 4 courses before. This is our result for 201:

Was not expecting to find this given the last couple of dnf's . Sitting on bike at coords inspecting when spotted the cache about 50cm from where the hint suggested. Grass died off in heat which may have helped. Signed and replaced. Moved it a bit closer to where i think it should be and covered with hint object.

Major disappointment for us. We had planned on making a clean sweep of the 4 challenge caches and then making cache 5, all during our visit to the lovely Nelson/Tasman area.
Thwarted though!
We are sure this one has gone burger. We could identify the cache hiding spot, and this aligned with coordinates and the clue. Alas, no cache.
Recommend that CO do a check on this one.

Now that I have finally logged all my geocaches in New Zealand, I can finally start checking the logged challenges on our world trip. For this challenge it took a little longer to check the required criteria, as there is an automatic checker. But it looks like the short walk together with Silli1310 to the challenge caches on 27.12.2014 was worth it, as I am now fulfilling this challenge. Thanks for the cache and the little challenge.

Last summer the idea was born to visit [Green]'New Zealand'[/Green], together with [url=http://coord.info/PR3NXJG][red]'MimiNemo'[/red][/url] Razz
After some important decisions regarding the beginning of our trip, the flights, the general route and the car were made, the most important question was still unanswered: which caches can we visit during our tour [?]
To get an answer for this topic I was fetching almost every cache from both islands Red Face[8)][:X]
[url=http://coord.info/PR3NXJG][red]'MimiNemo'[/red][/url] and I love [Teal]'Geo-Arts'[/Teal]...so we added all these cache series to our wish list Cool
After this decision was made this list was more than 300 puzzle caches long...unsolved puzzle caches Surprised
Two weeks before Christmas it was getting time to start solving all these mystery caches Wink
Even with the different language I could find almost every solution Cool
In the case I was not so successful I was contacting some of the CO's...and was always getting help from them...many thanks for this support [:X]

During the following weeks our cache list was growing and growing...meanwhile more than 1000 caches long...too long for a simple bookmark list from GC Sad
Time to get our route and caches in sync...time to save the PQ's to our Garmins...time to start this holiday:

Chapter 14: [green]Westport[/green] to [red]Picton[/red]
Our last day at the southern island [8)]Sad
On our long drive to [red]Picton[/red] we stopped of course for some caches [:X]

This challenge cache of a great challenge series was one of them Wink
My nine qualifying caches are the same as for [url=http://coord.info/PR3NXJG][red]'MimiNemo'[/red][/url] Razz

I would like to thank all the cache owners for showing us these great places and maintaining all these caches,

First trip away for the year and it had to be down to Wellington & Nelson to see customers and do a spot of Rep training. Arrived first thing this morning and it was straight over to Blenheim and back to this side of the hill for client meetings with the rep (and lots of coffee).

Collected this one after having been out to "Bulwer Drive By"
As I am working on my DT Grid this came up as one that I needed and so while in the area it was high on the importance to find stakes. So as soon as I could escape from work for the day it was to collect a multi and then head further afield to collect others, (This being one of them). When I told my rep where I was headed he said I was mad and that I wouldn't be back to well after midnight. I infact managed to be not only back but collected other challenge caches and back to the hotel in Nelson by 11.20pm.

PLease find Qualifying caches List
All Caches are currently active and where found between 20 AUG 2014.

thanks for the memories and the cache

After we had been on the Abel Tasman Track for the last days, today we went to the North Island of New Zealand. But before we left the South Island, we quickly climbed a small view mountain above Nelson. Of course we were not only attracted by the view but also by the challenges on site. After our holiday and all the logged caches, I hope to turn this note into a find. So for now it served only as a memory for me. Thanks a lot for the cache
