Mild morning to check out a dry Lal Lal Falls to collect some caches in the area.
Visited the falls today. Sent answers to CO. unfortunately the falls are not running at the moment. Would be great to see when they are. Pic attached. Thanks
Ice area on a rainy day. I will come back either tofu BBB and onions: Dav id
Answers emailed. Visited here today as part of a cultural tour by the Wadawurrung people. It was great hearing their cultural stories of how the land was formed, including the stories linked to the volcano eruptions!
Thanks for the earth cache. No actual falls, not enough water! Sleepy205 and I completed this. I'll be sending the answers for the two of us.
Went on an adventure to Lal Lal Falls today to get an Earthcache for my Wheel of Challenges Icons. Crazy windy day, but I didn't let it knock me down. Figured out the Earthcache question answers and sent my answers to the owner. Thanks for the fun earth cache!
Out and about filling in time before an event and headed over this was for a couple of caches, including this earthcache. An interesting area with a bit of water going over the falls. Answers to the questions were sorted and have been sent to CO.
Thanks McAdies...and interesting earthcache...with a good view.

Out for a Sunday drive with Mrs JTreeTrack2 in the trusty Geocamry. Hoping to get some pictures of some water birds so we headed off to Lal Lal and surrounds. We have been here before but looking in a new light and looking for things new to us; always the joy of caching. There was no water coming down the falls today, hence people walking across the top of the falls. The story of the girls who died here on a school excursion a sad one. I have been here when the falls are roaring and it is a magnificent view. Thanks for the Geology lesson and the cache McAdies
I visited the falls on 4-10-22 as part of a really enjoyable caching tour of the area. Finally i am getting around to logging it. Thanks for introducing me to yet another terrific location and helping to interpret the landscape. Just brilliant.
The water is really rushing today after all the rain we have had So many people here looking at the falls TFTC
Wow!!! I made a point of visiting today after the heavy rains & before levels subsided too much - I wasn't disappointed. Thank you so much for all of the information regarding the formation of the falls. I'd intended to visit Moorabool & Granite falls too (I'd driven from Castlemaine) but the road was closed & I headed to the dam wall, Iron Mine & Furnace instead. Hopefully my answers are correct!
What a perfect day for a couple of finds. I love this place regardless just for the awe and beauty.

Today we were finally going to make it to 1000, we'd headed out this way to tick that landmark off and enjoy what the Golden Plains had to offer. We'd been through Meredith and Lal Lal caching and had a walk around the other side of the falls but now we fancied taking in the views from this side and giving this earth cache a go. The required information was hopefully successfully collected and sent off to the CO to be checked. We then enjoyed the leisurely stroll down to the look out to take in the view. Thanks for the Earth Cache McAdies
The sun was shining, and regional covid restrictions meant we could at least get out past our 5km zone, so we seized the day and headed out to Lal Lal to explore an area neither of us had been to before. The wind had picked up a bit by the time we got here, and had quite a chill factor to it. There were a few families around enjoying a picnic or checking out the falls. After the rain we've had over the past few weeks, the falls were flowing very nicely. Answers sent for earthcache. TFTE McAdies.
A camping and caching trip out towards the Brisbane Ranges, we were not as prepared as usual so freestyle cached our way around. A long day of Geocaching today, and we finished off with the not so falls, with no water in them it wasn't as spectacular as I had expected..
I really liked the Gorge though, it was a really cool feature.
I really liked the Gorge though, it was a really cool feature.
After a walk around the area for the exercise, (And discovering that the clear path map on the information sign does NOT match the actual path. It does NOT make a loop any more. Don't turn left at the end thinking it loops back to the start. It's an unlawful track that breaches a fence line to access the lake below.) I took a photo of the falls with my GPS in view. We have had heavy rain and floods in the area for a couple of days, yet the falls were dry when I arrived in the evening. Less water than when a person on Facebook took a photo there in the morning! Read the info panels, composed the answers to the questions and sent of to McAdies, and got the reply back to confirm I had successfully completed my first ever Earth Cache. Thanks McAdies for the motivation to finally, after a decade of living in the area, actually going to see the falls. Now I have to go back when there's actual water flowing. Also see the nearby other falls just up stream.
TFTC. With extreme weather forecast later in the week, we decided to head out for a few hours caching. We stopped here for lunch and to do a bit if investigation. Even though there was no water flowing, it is an impressive area.

After a long year and too much isolation I finally got a chance to travel up to Ballarat to visit a long time mate before Christmas. Decided it was time for an earthcache run along the way, seven in two days oughta do it
No water today but you can see how this might be awesome in the winter!

We were getting a bit desperate to get out of our suburb after lock-down and so decided that a trip to a natural attraction would be just the ticket. Some friends mentioned Lal Lal falls and that it was geokid friendly, and so it was decided.
Being the type that visit natural attractions of a regular basis we expected the usual level of crowds (i.e. not many people). How wrong we were! Everyone was out to visit the falls today, so we only got a quick photo not at the best vantage point (there was quite a non-socially-distanced crowd on the platform) - but we still got out of the house! And thanks to the EarthCache we also learnt something.
Thank you McAdies for the EarthCache.

A great place to bring the family today. We started on this side of the falls and ended up on the other. Plenty of water going over today.

Wow if I could give a cache more Han one favourite point I would! You can walk right into this waterfall when the water levels are right. Made for the most memorable experience. Thanks so much for the earth cache here. I can’t believe this area is not more well known for how beautiful it is. So grateful to have had this experience here.
I would love to have visited the falls in spate but it was not to be. One of the driest starts to a year I can remember so not surprising that the carpark was deserted. I was intending to do wozzle's cache first but I missed the turnoff and ended up here.
Info gleaned from noticeboard and a rapid acknowledgement from the prolific earthcachers McAdies who I thank for yet another great offering.
As mentioned no photos today since my camera sunk to the depths of the Werribee River a fortnight ago
A fav point

I was on my way to the CITO in Scotsburn, and as I had left at 6am had an hour or 2 to spare so why not collect a cache or 2 on the way. I needed one more EC for a challenge cache (still need 6 more CITO's), so grabbed this one on the way past. When I arrived the guy was at the shelter cleaning the BBQ's and he wanted to chat, little did he know I had a more important mission to complete, but doing the right thing I had a chat and then was off to view the falls and collect the answers. While out on a road trip back in January with Mitch to do a bit of flying and photo taking, we decided to go by here to see if we could put the drone up and get some good photos but when we arrived we found that there was no water and also some little birds flying around so no flying for us.
On the bright side while we were here I collected the information needed to answer the questions to claim the smiley.
It has taken me a while but I finally got around to submitting my answers.

Visited here today with B and her friends. Lovely location and awful popular on a nice sunny day. Its a good thing earthcaches are muggle friendly:) TFTC McAdies
So sad that the water isn’t flowing at the moment, hopefully we get lots of rain to fill it back up again soon
Today, Sheppythekid, geobub and myself spent the day in the Lal Lal area grabbing the caches in the area. This is a fantastic area with a great mix of landscape, history and geology to be seen.
The falls were flowing quite strong after recent spring rains. It's a pity you can't walk to the bottom any more. There were lots of muggles around .
Always good to learn another geology lesson.
Thanks McAdies for a great Earthcache, in a lovely area. We had a great day.
Cheers BWBandit

I've been aware of the falls here for some time but have never had the opportunity to visit. Today was the day to change that with a bit of free time in Ballarat. I was greeted with a spectacular waterfall (much larger than I was expecting) with a decent flow of water cascading to the river bed below. I was hoping to walk to Moorobool falls, but with the weather closing in I resorted to finding the cache on the other side of the waterfall. At least it means I have a good excuse to return in the future!
My thanks to McAdies for the cache.

Team Autumn out today for some fun on a sunny curriculum day for the geokids. We always drive past on our way to Ballarat from Geelong to visit grandma, but she is out of state so we turned off the road to see these waterfalls finally. Water was flowing nicely today and we walked the short loop walk admiring the views. Will need to bring grandma back for a BBQ! TFTC.
This is the first time I have ever been to this area. Very interesting. Logging with permission of CO. TFTC
Hi McAdies from Team Plowfive.
Thanks for the cache. It's a beautiful spot and the Falls were really roaring today. See photos attached. I think I have been here before but probably twenty years ago and pre-kids. Today we were back with the kids who really enjoyed the falls (and the nearby playground). We also explored around the area including the Water Tower and the old Iron Mine. We had a bit of an adventure getting there, where we took the long way round and really tested my nerves and the soft roaders abilities... We made it home alive but the steering wheel has my finger nails embedded in it now! (see DNF log for Palindromic Alchemist which I will be writing soon!) .

Very interesting reading all the information about the area. Discovering awesome places in our own backyard!
After coming to the area for the event cache last week with out the Sims_family mum we had to return this with her this week. It is certainly a spectacular sight at the moment with all the water flowing at the moment. We didn't do the earth cache last week because Mum is particularly fond of Earth caches so we left it for her. Plus with out doing it, it made sure we returned with her.
The rain today was playing funny fellas with us and we waited out some rain under the shelter before catch a break in the weather to make it down to the viewing platform and back just as the rain started falling again.
Thank you McAdies for bring us to such a wonderful place. The email with answers will follows shortly after which we will change the write note to Found when approved

This is another location that I had wanted to visit for some time and after hearing about the falls were in flow again, I thought there is no better time that to visit the Lal Lal Falls. The bonus for my of the area was this Earth Cache. We enjoyed a event here last weekend, grabbed a few of the trads nearby and searched for the information of this EC. It was great reading, and great to visit this beautiful location. Sometimes you put yourself back and try to think how this whole area would have looked before the movement of the earth. Quite surprising how flat the surround area is with such a deep valley cut through.
**Thanks for this Earth Cache, McAdies** [^]

With a souvenir available for a Multi find, an event at a scenic location and 1000+1500 milestones for my daughter and myself respectively (she had earmarked the nearby Miners Right) and this being EC #30 which also knocks off a Challenge cache I had previously signed but was waiting to log, it was a no brainer that we travel the almost 1.5hr trip today.
After chatting to others, we learned that the falls are rarely flowing this much so we felt very lucky to have had an excuse to time our visit so well. TFTEC!

At the Lal Lal duck event today, so doing all the nearby caches too. Great location in this area. We are having a very fun day today, despite it being FREEZING cold. Collected the necessary information and wandered down to the falls which are spectacular at the moment with lots of water. TFTC.

Went to Lal Lal Falls today for a Duck TB event, then onto to my brother in law's place in Ballarat to visit a sick nephew. This was the 4th of 8 finds for the day.
What a natural place for an earthcache, and luckily there was one here.
The information was found, and I was able to pass a verbal examination by the owner when we bumped into them at the next cache we did on the other side of the falls.

Our group of six caching teams - TR!, libzhat, debelco, Snaphappy and LionJRB were with us - came from the nearby event where we had been camping in the company of the CO the night before. We took in the views at the information area, discussed the photos and explanations on the info boards and made our way to the lookout. What a stunning area this is, and we have not made it here before! "Just add water", how cool would that be!
Logging with CO's permission, even though our homework required a fair bit of correction. A photo will be supplied in Snaphappy's log.

i was at a nearby caching and camping weekend. A group of us headed out in the morning to go find a few caches (TR!, suss vulture, debelco, Snaphappy and LionJRB ).This one was on our list. After a few of us had a quick pit stop we headed over to where we were meant to be. We all had a read of the board and discussed a few things as we all tried to work out the answer. We all then decided to go for a walk and explore some more. We even took a group photo at the viewing platform. This place is so lovely and if their was water flowing it would be even more magical. Thanks for bringing us all to this awesome place would never have come here otherwise.
Doing some camping in the area at the nearby event a group assault on this cache was organised.
So in the company of Libzhat Snaphappy Sussvulture dbelco and lionjrb we hit up the area.
We studied the information took photos of the area chatted laughed.
The info was sent and permission was granted to log woo hoo.
Many thanks to the the Mcadies for this earthcache.

Logged with permission, such a beautiful area to visit, falls looked a little dry though, last time we were here was in our pre caching days and it was nice to have another reason to return, very interesting information, and place. Geoson had fun running all over the place, it was nice a quiet so we took more time to explore too. thanks for bringing us here.

Answers sent. Hopefully they are correct as this is our 5900th cache. What a fantastic area! Although we felt every bit of the arctic blast as we walked across the flat to the viewing platform we still enjoyed the view. Even after the rain this morning there was not a drop of water coming across the falls, so thanks for including the photo on the cache page to show us what it could look like. Thanks for another great earth cache, McAdies.
Dog sitting duties this weekend so decided to clear up a few caches that I have been meaning to do for quite some time and let Tess have a few walks in the bush as I slowly creep towards the next milestone. I love travelling these backroads as you never know where you will end up and what you will see. Have visited here before caching. The wind was blowing a gale and it was absolutely freezing as we made our way to the Falls. A great spot for the kids and adults alike. Answers submitted. Thanks for all your efforts in providing us with great earthcaches. Cheers Caz
Wonderful information on an interesting area. Thanks for permission to log. Would love to come back after a decent rain

Heading off to Ballan for the days event, I decided to go to an area out of Ballarat that I haven't visited before.
After getting to GZ and reading all the info on the area I was off to have a look at the falls.
Seeing on how much rain there was in the last couple of days, up where I come from, I thought I may have been able to see the falls in action. This was not to be, oh well, this area may have missed the storms. So I will be down another day to see them in action.

The view of the waterfall from here is fantastic. I had never realised that there even were falls here, so I was pleased to learn of their existence and more importantly to come and see them for myself. Today was a particularly fine day weather wise, so we decided to stop here for our lunch.

Found with accounts and gummiebear310 on Saturday morning with my two geokids. Fabulous place to visit at the minute because we have had lots of rain the last few weeks and the falls were fully flowing. Also learnt some history along the way which is always fab. Thanks so much for the great cache.
Fantastic family picnic spot even in the winter. Thought the fact board a little lacking in clear detail. Email with answers sent. Photo attached showing non water flow when visited over a month ago although may have some now, since I noticed Slatey Creek was flowing across the ford a couple of days ago! TFTC McAdies.
Finally time to log this guy (with permission). I have spent quite a bit of time in the area of late both caching and sightseeing. I grew up not too far away but never came here as a kid which is a shame because this is a great place. I have since been here with my own kids and explored both the Lal Lal and Moorabool Falls.

Out exploring and caching in the lal lal area and was lucky enough to get here before dusk fell.
Couldn't make sense of the info so took pic of the sign and re read when home. Submitted answers and logging with permission.
Thanks for the great spot- no idea what was there from the carpark.
No pic of gps- as gps is my phone- which would be like trying to look yourself in the face without a mirror
Thanks for bringing me here also.

Thanks McAdies, for bringing me back to one of my favorite places for my first "Earth Cache" and teaching me things I didn't know.
Logging this in anticipation Had a lovely time discovering more about this area enjoying a walk to a nearby cache and looking with some amazement at the power of water TFTC McAdies
Thanks McAdies. This is our first EarthCache. We had gathered the information for this one at the 31 Days of Geocaching event but had missed 1 piece of information. Today we were back with the McLookers, Tomstache and Motndarg and made sure we had all the info this time around.
Thanks McAdies. I am glad I got the answers right. Nice day for a picnic with Motndarg, Glanville Girls and McLookers.
Logged with permission. Caching today with Tomstache, Glanville Girls and Motndarg. The Lal Lal Falls are beautiful. It was a nice spot for a picnic. Thanks McAdies.
I was out at the falls during the rain today, and the falls were indeed water falls - there was a lot of water at this time of the year.
I enjoyed wandering around the lookout points.
Have emailed the answers to the CO.
TFTeC, McAdies.

After attending the event it was a short stroll to visit the falls. The last time I was here there was no water and no caches and it was freezing. Today it was beautiful and I could claim 3 caches. Perfect. TFTC McAdies

Logged with permission. Another detour on our trip to the north west. Certainly a sleepy town with some solid buildings of the past. We parked and got the required info before heading to the viewing platform. An impressive water fall and interesting geology. The falls must be a sight after heavy rains. TFTEC.
