Report: After about 30 hours in transit I landed today in England for my year long adventure around Europe. Exhausted, I went straight to my hostel at Willesden Green, which is pretty awesome by the way. Pulled out the GPSr which I have loaded with every single cache in the UK and Ireland (:D) and went to work looking for a likely target for my first UK Cache to keep the Geostreak going. This is Day 228 consecutive with a cache find. The nearest cache to the hostel has a Needs Archived Log on it so this one was my next pick. It was about a 2km walk in the cool afternoon but after 30 hours mostly sitting on a plane the walk was just what I needed. The only slight problem was I got to GZ about 1600h when schools and work people were coming home! So I checked the hint to make a quick find without raising any muggle eyebrows and sure enough (after I gave up on my first guessed location 30 cm away) I had cache in hand fairly quickly.
I was very interested to see how an English cache appears compared to Aussie ones. I know this is my first but here are my initial observations for my friends back home who I sent this log to and the cache owner if they are interested!
1) Hide: Urban near a transport hub like a few of the Sydney caches hidden in a similar manner to others Ive seen. Most surprisingly was I had to walk 2km to get there from the hostel! Subirban London doesnt seem to have the same cache density as Sydney.
2) Container: Small a takeaway food container... fairly new cache, amazed it was completely DRY considering how wet it is here, the snow, and the fact the log had no ziplock bag (pretty standard back home). We tend to use snap lock food storage boxes with a good seal for small caches back home. Plastic is harder and they keep the water out.
3) Muggles: Oblivious as ever
4) Weather: About 5 degrees on sunset (at 1630h!), showers, everything you could expect from an English winter haha
