This cache needs to be archived. I went out today to have a look and the area has changed greatly and been tidied up - the tree where it was has gone. Also a previous find photo is not this cache 10/12/16. It is a great spot for a cache and would free it up for another placement. The CO does not live in the area anymore

We were doing our CITO event and decided to look for thus one. Hunted for a long time. Even went over the edge hunting. But nothing.

18-Sep-16
Looked for ages...goat climbed and grovled over and under all sorts of rocks...no luck today..had to get back to the cito

20-Aug-16
Add me to the DNFs. Hunted for a long time, found lots of potential hiding spots, but no cache. Met a local who apparently comes here regularly for a quiet beer. Would love a hint as to where it is, in case I come back again.

10-Aug-16
I spent a long time here searching but the GPS was jumpy and I couldn't make the find.

Enjoyed the challenge even though I had to admit defeat .....

Hard to find but went the wrong way

No luck for me today - but I think I was looking for the wrong thing as a previous logger posted a photo of a cache that looks suspiciously like ANOTHER cache on this hill. Cool spot though, and awesome views alright!

Just got into town late afternoon from driving all day. Went for a hike up the Mount and did this cache on way down. Great cache. No log book in cache. So next better prepared cacher should bring a new log book. TLLN. TBs visited cache. TFTF.

09-Dec-15
Made a quick hike up the Mount and did a little caching. This one is a bit of the path. But a fun hunt. There is no log book in the cache. So someone please bring up a new log. Thanks for the fun.

08-Dec-15
This was a beautiful view! The cache itself was a very... strange cammo... but hey, good hiding spot out of sight from the muggle population.

After a climb up the mt yesterday with a group of us they went down to collect this one but I wanted to save a few for streak days, Made it a lot easier knowing exactly where it was and just had to shoot up there today to sign the log. Nice afternoon for a stroll and cheers for the cache 172 day streak now Smile

After successfully completing the Magnificent 7 find our group dwindled down and became the fabulous five. Off we set to turn Mt Maunganui into a mountain of smiles. A bit of a scramble down to this one but no trouble with the find TFTC.

My son had to visit Tauranga today and I thought that I would tag along and keep him company on the way as well as picking up a few caches while waiting for him to do his work for the day.

A nice little detour on my way down off The Mount.

Cheers for the cache.

After a long hésitation, I decided to head south this morning and to ho to Rotorua for 2 days. Weather is bad but country is so beautiful that I'm confident to have a good and interesting day.
After a first stop in a gold mine area, I stop in Tauranga in order to discover the mount Maungani. It is higher than it looks like and the path quite steep.
After visiting the summit, i find my way towards gz and the box is quickly in my hands. No TB inside.
Cache is in good condition.
Next target in my trip: Rotorua.
Tftc.

Today we have a look for some caches in this area . And this one was one of it. An other great day in new zealand with intrasting caches and amazing views.TFTC
Cache in good condition

17-Apr-15
Well we had the full adventure and bush bashed up from the bottom of the mount. Tore my T-shirt on the way from snagging a branch, and had to find an alternative route for the female members of my team who called for full retreat once scaling some rocks were found to be the final hurdle in getting to the cache from below. Sidling the larger rocks met up with a decent track that in turn led to the proper track. A cache we'll all remember to get the Indiana Jones adventure under our belts. TFTC

14-Apr-15
Another cache we had targeted on our trip away, as it's a D/T rating we didn't have.
We had expected it to be a lot harder than it was. Having read some previous logs we knew to approach from the top. It was quite slippery from all the rain we've had lately, but still not too difficult.
Took a TB & left a pet rock - thanks kiwitreasurehunter

12-Apr-15
Found with Splattynz on a caching trip up the mount great day had by all.

12-Apr-15
This cache has been on my radar for awhile as I need the D/T rating to help complete my grid. In the area with an hour or two to spare so thought I would come up and grab it. Made my way down a fairly nice track and got to GZ with not too many problems. A quick find of the cache, stopped for a photo or two, dropped off a TB and I was back on my way up again. Thanks for the cache! Great view spot!

11-Apr-15
Found with Davidson Clan on a caching adventure around the Mount. Cache in good condition with new log. TNXPro was with us but as he had already logged this one he held point up near the look out seat.

Tftc.

Mallorcatommy and I were travelling through the northern island of New Zealand. What an amazing, breath-taking landscape! On our way we did some nice walks, enjoyed ourselves and found great geocaches. Thanks to all owners for nice hiding spots... We wouldn't have been to a few places without these little boxes!

Wow!! The best view from the mountain!! Thanks!

30-Mar-15
Every day we are traveling around is same but also different. Today we had again the pleasure to visit some very beautiful spots and were also able to find nearly placed geocaches. I thank every single owner for placing it and giving us with doing this an other good reason to come here.

21-Mar-15
On a mission - we have 10 left to find on the mount today. This was our fourth find today and what a view! Found easily and in good condition. Dropped off TB and replacement log. There are some unwanted signs of human occupation around which was a little disturbing but other then that - great spot. Mind your children around this one as per D/T rating.

19/0/14 16:30 After walking up the track from Pilot Bay, we detoured off the track & went sideways to the cache, near the '15 minutes to summit' sign. What an expedition! I knew it would be one of those "found it & hey, here's an easy way out I prepared earlier" type of caches. Which it was... Took the vertical route down from the cache to the fence line, which was kinda interesting as it had rained all night and it was very, very slippery. Wink Definitely a cache to approach from above. I would be interested to find the reason for the cairn nearby... Thoroughly enjoyable the afternoon ramble with The Princess. Cheers, GC.

Found pretty quickly. Challenging walk through the bush. Great fun for the Kids though.

07-Sep-14
Girls found with ease, Fabulous view. Cache only had boy swappables though. One of the best locations for a geocache.

04-Sep-14
Got it on the second go. First time bush-bashed up the side. Lots of fun but never got high enough. Then remembered an old track from topside.

Found the cache and avoided getting scratched.

28-Aug-14
I feel on top of the world here TFTC I took the adventurous route and soon found a 'path' like the paths on the mount when I was a kid, so awesome
No travel bug in inventory

Was a wonderful day for a walk up The Mount. I really wanted to knock this one off today and I knew the track to take from above. I would not even attempt to access this from below as it is too overgrown and steep. We found this fairly quickly luckily. I dont think it warrants a 4.5 rating. Everything seems to be in fairly good condition still. It's a great location with spectacular views. Thanks for bringing me here.

The sun showed finally her face and it was time to tackle the mountain and its geocaches. Great cache showing us a great view with no muggles around. TFTC

#2733.
#175 in NZ.

I approached this cache from the top (and from below) as Lady Thrips waited for me in the shade at the bench at the top of the view point. I missed gz by a meter or so on my way down and had to come back up to locate the cache. This was a fun adventure and returned to the top rather unscathed. TFTC!

A big thank you to all the geocache owners for being our “tour guides” in New Zealand while we are on our short holiday visit to this extraordinarily beautiful country! We traveled the North Island in our little camper van and we came across minimal damaged caches and we only had very few DNF’s.

"Groete" all the way from South Africa!

We decided to go bush from the bottom ,it took us a while to make it to the cache, just as the others have mentioned your coords were very good.A fav from us for the view.TFTC

08-Mar-14
we took the hard way to find this one but i was so glad when we got there thinking wow I accomplished that. such an amazing view from up here. got out with only a few scratches.. cache is still all good.
thanks very much for bringing us here took a few photos and a video.

16-Feb-14
I certainly felt like Indiana Jones doing this one. I couldn't believe it when my gps kept saying 'FURTHER', even when I though I'd got to the end of the track...still 'Nothing Ventured Nothing Gained', that or a date with the 6'O Clock News and the West Pac Rescue Helicopter....Certainly needed my Big Stick though to balance over rocks and fight off gorse, having said that though the coordinates had me spot on. How CO managed that...very impressive.
Definitely the favourite of the trip

cheers V.

A little off the beaten track & had to do battle with the gorse but GPSr had me spot on the mark at GZ Smile

Ran the gauntlet to get this one! Darting arrows, razor grass, I have wounds to prove it.

02-Feb-14
I climbed the mount today especially for this cache (I am a lazy 15 year old!) and so that for a start is a achievement but then to find my highest rated cave yet is another! I have climbed this mountain a few times in recent years and having only recently discovered geocaching I thought it would be a good excuse to get of my @ss! Thanks heaps for this ache great views, great areas and a very very great day at the mount! TFTC and a fav point from me!!

18-Jan-14
Wicked spot for a cache. So glad you brought me to the proper look out! I came via the marked look out which isn't really a look out at all, which got me within 35m, then did a scooby-doo and slip/slid all the way down an overgrown path, practically landing with a bump right next to the rocky outcrop. As usual, the cache was under the last rock I came to...Wink...finding the cache took no time (although it did involve puncturing my skin a few times on pine needles), but enjoying the view took a while! TFTC! Fave point for sure.

12-Jan-14
Found this with little difficulty. We were expecting to just check the place, but were happy to actually find the cache. Thanks!

We decided to not take the easy way up since we've already taken that route a number of times. This is the only cache we had left to attempt on the mount besides the 5-5 one. We started climbing parallel to one fence and bolted to the top, climbed another fence at the base of the trees after making sure it wasn't electrified. Took us awhile to find the track up (we almost turned around) had a reasonably difficult time keeping on path, but ultimately arrived in one piece. Glad we came up the hard way. TFTC.

Loved this spot - off the beaten track. Great walk up to the Mount and fantastic day for it. TFTC Smile Sorry - have no favourite points left or I would be giving one here Sad

good thing no one was around because it take a long of climb and looking to find this one. TFTC

At 1.55pm. I really enjoyed this hide. A great spot that only locals would know about. I can imagine this spot being used hundreds of years ago. Fantastic view. Tftc. From bendigo australia.

After chatting with some muggles at the top we headed on down. Did a bit of maintenance, and CITOing of the area. Left a pencil and ziploc bag. then it was all downhill - literally.

2121 GAFF2 Detoured past some muggles at the top having a tete-tete, and found an occasionally used route in the general direction. Sure enough it got us there without too much bush bashing. Then it was just a good around, and MVMB found this one I think. Tucked well away out of sight.
Left: a Correct Site Marker - surgical marking pen, and a normal pen.
While suitable for the Night Caching elective, I will add a book mark for the Challenging Cache one.
So you could say the cache has been maintained.
Brought through for mileage: "Mineral Mountain (CO)" Green Jeep Travel Bug, 12-12-12 Event, 3 Bros, Aust Light Houses, BEAGLE BIXBY, B 2 B ingot, BROWN BEAR 15, Coin of Danmark, CRDAVIS-Scottish Thistle Geocoin, Fishing Bell TB, GoLeo Travel Bug Dog Tag, Iconic Bridges, land rover TB, Lil' Miss TB, cache critters Baa, Neigh Neddy, and Oink, NZ Mega 2013 GCookie Coin, PAP, Raban, Red Jandal, Rienan TB, Spooky, steben6's DNF Duo - Super Cacher Geocoin, Trakabulldog geocoins, VIRGINia TAG, and trackable shirts.

Oh boy. Found the track AFTER I bush crashed up for half an hour. It's hard being me sometimes. Nice spot. Beats the lookout chair, can't see anything from there.

Made this so much harder than it needed to be. Seemed to find every thistle bush in the area. Looked all over and under - went off road and checked - was about to give up and saw the path - too easy!! But that's part of the fun! Took tb. Needs a pen or a pencil sharper dropped off. New log book is all good. TFTC (and the adventure)

Popped over to the Mount today with the plan of clearing out all the caches up here. Started walking at about 11 and had finished by 2. Went up and down and up again in search of a smilie.

Was an adventure getting to GZ and thought it was going to take a long time to locate. Lucky for me I found the cache in the second place i looked.

Found orginally as part of phasevisitor team, now created own account, re-logging as yorkshirekiwi83.

We were down from Auckland for a weekend in Tauranga and decided to head up the Mount to collect a few caches, before an event in the afternoon. Have walked up here many times in the past, but this was our first visit as geocachers. While completing the Earthcache at the top of the Mount, we spotted someone acting like a geocacher, but who was actually hunting munzees! Got chatting to him and it turned out he was also a fairly new geocacher, so we invited him along for a few finds with us (nice to meet you Super Weevil!)

This is a nice little hidden spot on the Mount, that we've not been to before. Enjoyed the walk off the beaten trail and made a quick find of the cache. Thanks for the cache - a favourite

Picked up a geocoin.
