Great little walk with our family. We got a good way around the lake before we were stonkered by a raging little river and decided to turn back rather than wade through - probably the only sign of any damage by the cyclone Gabrielle, so that was a bonus. We did get to the geocache beforehand and our concerted look turned up a fun result. Found with KWomble. Earns a fave from us. The cache is a bit squashed on one end, but otherwise all is good. Carefully replaced.

Smile Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit … we are now parked at the NZMCA site in Dargaville for the next few days … we will now spend time exploring the wider area … headed up to the Kai Iwi Lakes for a wander around … this was an easy find, log completed & replaced … pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally … TFTC ... So happy that for once my phone gps was spot on….the fence post was a good sign post but did require a wee bit more sleuthing to uncover the cache. It was searching outside the area and wandering back did I detect something not as woody as it should be. Beautiful day, hot as, one more swim before the drive home.

Nice to visit and walk around part of this quieter lake, there was no-one else here and it was nice and peaceful. All good with the find, added name to the plentiful florists paper and replaced as found and backtracked the way I'd come.

Our last day in the region before heading South today, and back home. Then tomorrow we're off for part 2 of the holidays in Taihape and Palmerston North with our daughter and her family. I wanted to head out Dargaville and Kai Iwi way first before leaving though and added some more kms onto the car's speedo!

Work is finished for the year and it's time to head to Northland for a few days prior to Christmas. Primarily to see our son and his partner and our grandchildren and also a bit of a beach break at the work bach. A good few days away, and a few caches found, thanks to all COs.

Was the only cache I didn't try last time we camped here, but tried this weekend. No luck by myself. However, a friend cacher wanted to try this one so we joined forces and finally found it. TFTC. The track seems to be lacking and narrow for the most part of the lake, not really suitable for bikes.

18-Jan-21
Ants had made a home in this tricky find. We loved the challenge to find this cache. After being thrown off the scent a few times due to compass issues the clue led us to a brilliant cache. Attempted to clear the ants from the container but a well established nest meant we couldn’t sign the log. I think what looks like a sweet tea bag has attracted them to the cache.

Nice quick find with the geokids. Enjoyed a lovely walk around the lake. Plenty of Piwakawaka on the trail kept the kids entertained. Thank for bringing us here!

23-Sep-19
Set off early this morning for a well earned caching trip with my buddy and navigator at my side to get as many of these new caches that I could find. The day dawned bright and sunny so we set off to the wop wops in the trusty geo mobile. Finally managed to get to this one, last time the track was flooded and impassable. Off we went on a quick lakeside stroll and soon the cache was in hand after identifying the correct object. TFTC.

23-Sep-19
I've been wanting to get these caches for years so when my friend mentioned that she was coming here I checked my work schedule. Conveniently I wasn't working today so I tagged along too. This was a short walk to warm us up before we set off around the bigger lake. A nice stroll and a quick find. Kai Iwi Lakes is such beautiful area. Thanks for your hide Smile

12-Feb-19
I was walking back to camp after collecting a number of caches around Lake Taharoa and foolishly decided to grab this one as well. I have now been walking 4 hours with a rest break to reenergise and was pleased to see that I only needed to walk a short distance on comparison to grab the cache. Finally found it and signed the log.
Back to camp now for more food and a swim before tackling the two up the hill then I'm off to Rawene next to cache in the area.

Just spent a couple of hours at the Kauri Museum, now its back to Dargarville for an evening event. WE ahve come out here to walk around the Lake. WE took this side track to snag this one. Took a bit of a hunt before finally getting it tagged. Cheers
Monday - New Years Eve - day seventeen - Whangarei - Dargarville - Whangarei today in Toby. Zara gets another rest. So lets go exploring!!

Its another epic 3+ week geocaching adventure with The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and William to the Far North. What an amazing place to explore. Lots of walks, gravel roads and sand. Lots of amazing trees, beaches and interesting POIs. Lots of kilometers traveled by vehicle and foot. Vehicle breakdowns, making new friends and catching up with old friends and family. Snagged a couple of FTF's, lots of lonely caches and the odd event along the way. Lots of cache maintenance and replaced caches on this trip. But what an incredible adventure!!. Thanks to all the CO's who have made this trip so memorable..

31-Dec-18
The plan was to walk around this lake, doing all the caches in a single day, but after a walk to here, and then checking out a sign later on, I realised I had badly underestimate the distance around, so we aborted. Man this lake is crowded! It's new year's eve, and there is some serious partying going on. Nice that there are people manning the road, keeping the alcohol out.
Anyway, nice walk out this bit for the cache, which stumped us for a spell.

Day seventeen of an awesome, tiring, long, three week holiday geocaching with Taybeedragon in the upper north. Taybeedragon and I scooted over from Whangarei this morning, especially to visit the kauri museaum, then back to Dargaville for a sundown event and back back to Whangarei for bed and a sunrise event. The whole trip comprised of hours of walking on sand, sliding down sand dunes, hundreds of kilometres of unsealed roads, car breakdowns, paddling out to islands, lighthouses, dolphins, goats, events, FTFs, weird boulders. You name it, we saw it. Lots of bisons, lots of cache maintenance, lots of sunscreen. A month is enough. I am glad to be back home. Except that now I have to write up my trip. We averaged just 20 caches per day, but that is still a lot of logging!

Happy new Planetary Orbit from the Seagnoid!

I finaly found this Cache after searching around the wrong fencepost for 15 min. Quick find after locating the other correct fencepost. Nice Hide.
My second Cache on my way around the Lakes today.

18-Nov-18
Today we had a trip around Dargaville, thereby visiting many locations especially the near Kauri forest, and looking for caches, too. On this trip we searched, found and logged a lot of caches. The weather was good all day long, but it got more and more cloudy in the afternoon.
Almost no muggels observed us as they had other things to do than observing harmless geocachers.

Thanks to 'Grobyc' for showing us this location and for the fun we had at 'Lake Kai-Iwi (Northland)'. The search we had here today didn't take too much time.

Greetings from Germany and hope to see you soon in the forest.

Thanks Grobyc !
Have been holidaying in Dargaville and had a free afternoon ; and what better way to enjoy the lovely weather than come and cache Kaiiwi Lakes!
This was my last trad ....
Have finished Taharoa Lake..and came here to find the track entry for this lake.
Soon found entry...and was a quick walk to the cache.
When I got to GZ I was initially worried as couldn't imagine where the cache was hidden....
Then I had a idea ; and yes , that's where it was hidden!
Loved your hide!

In the area for the day with Trout-fly and we were circumnavigating the lake. Parked at the entrance to the campground on the main road and followed the trail around the lake and managed to find them all. Took 3 hours on foot with caching/rest stops. This was a slight diversion from the main path way we were following but would have been a shame not to get this one while we were here. TFTC

Second find of TW and I's circumnavigation of the lake. Its was HOT!! Thanks.

A cache to find along this track is the perfect excuse to check out this lake. Love the solitude and couldn't help looking for little spots which would be perfect to camp if there were no rules. Found a little path which looked like the Blair Witch Project could have been filmed here. TFTC

No sign of the TB in the cache.

Cheers for the cache.

The hint Gum Tree was removed because it does not fit the Native only bush policy that the Lake management have adopted hence the Pine tree cull. They come and removed the Gum tree but left all the other non natives behind - logic there somewhere I guess?

Updated hint to the next nearest thing.

25-Apr-14

Walking around the lake for the first time. Still getting used to the changes in landscape with the cutting and removal of the pine trees.

Lovely walk, very pretty, welcome shade on this hot day! Found quickly, used the clue to get us there!

Decided to visit the other camp ground, and get icecream, so took a diversion. Then on our return we rejoined the track to complete the loop of Lake Kai Iwi.

Went for a lovely walk around the lake to get this one. The track was quite overgrown in places, so it looks like not a lot a people wander around here! We were worried at GZ as a lot of trees had been felled and there were big piles of branches everywhere, eventually found it though. Confused about the clue, there aren't any at GZ!
