As there's been no cache to find for some time, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.
There has been a very large windfall here and a large slip. GZ used to be under beautiful bush cover but is now wide open. I will need to relocate the cache.
We finally found the correct path down and scrambled in to GZ. Soon found the cache hanging in a plastic bag in a tree- not where we expect it started off, from the hint. It was soaked, but luckily we had our repair kit with us. We wiped it out, took out all the wet or rusty stuff, including the pencil sharpener and, unfortunately the original log book which was in a sorry state. We were able to replace it with a waterproof log in a film canister, left the pencil and added a few swag items. We then put the cache in a ziplock bag and placed it where we hoped it was originally.
We then went off to try the Hammerhead, but no luck there, or any of the others on this path. A pretty disappointing caching day, but a lovely walk.

Found it no prob - was a bit surprised at how obvious it was. Another great spot! I tried for the hammerhead one as well but the tide was up too high. Tftc
Yesterday in the late afternoon we walked past all of these caches towards Orokawa Bay for our wonderful Renewal of Vows Ceremony.
And today we return to revisit this wonderful place, being a little less nervous and of course have more time to do some caches, too.

Thanks for this cache!:)
A much easier walk down to the beach than I thought it was going to be. Not too hard to find the cache either. A bit damp. Thanks for the cache.
Interesting spot - thanks for bringing us down here. That's why I love geocaching! Took a bit of looking but it was right where it was supposed to be I imagine. At least for me, coordinates were right on the mark. As previous finder said, cache container is wrapped in black plastic bag although log is wet. Thanks for a fun one and my 800th cache!
On a caching mission with HKCB, Z4p, Cats & Dragons and kiwiteachernz in the Waihi Beach area. Made our way down the overgrown track and once close to GZ we followed the cache hint but it still took quite some time to locate despite the number of trained cachers eyes doing the searching. Finally Cats & Dragons came up trumps. TFTC.
Finalised plans for a caching mission at Orokawa Reserve at the mission control event Friday night, and picked up a couple of extra members to join in. An early start this morning but we were primed and ready to go a first light. With all the rain we have had in the last few days we all had the wet weathers out, but I did forget my waterproof pants. Luck was on our side thou as it turned out to be a brilliant day, and we found some pretty awesome caches. To top it off Z4P found his 100th cache, congrats!!!
Missed the start of the track as wasn't keeping an eye on the GPS, lucky we didn't go to far pass it. Took a few minutes for the GPS to settle on GZ, and three of us thought we'd checked everywhere when C&D came along and found it.

This was a great mission continuing on from the Orokawa Pa site, and after the previous two caches it was nice to be back on a well formed track
Completed this in the company of HKCB, kiwiteachernz, Z4p & and rosmar. The day continued to be stunning and made for a fun days caching.
A bit of a lottery but the cache was soon located and in hand. Thanks for the placement

The next cache on our mission list with Cats&Dragons, HKCB, Rosmar and Kiwiteachernz. I think most of us looked at the cache spot without seeing it until C&D found it.
A nice place TFTC

I found another tree that may have matched hint item. Guys eventually called that they'd found cache well hidden (and wrapped in black plastic bag). Use your long arm!
Thanks for placing cache here.

Thank you so much for this cache! It was so awesome. Thanks for the little beach. I love the view over the ocean.
The track was dry but overgrown and so worth the trip down to the beach as the caves are amazing! Co-ords were spot on at GZ. TFTC.
The path looked too steep but Wicked Weasel encouraged me to give it a go. Has not been visited for a long while but it all seemed to be in order. Good team work to make the find. TFTC
Found along with Gislong on a walk to Orokawa bay, the sun the whole of your body is such a wonderful thing.
Nice walk down to the cache, not too strenuous, but enough to get the heart working.

9.10am. Went right to the entrance of the cave before turning on the GPS. ! At least the tide was out. Have been inside on a number of times many years back, so went in for old times sake. No penguins today although I have seen them there. Back up the tree root staircase and into the bush and after a few minutes the cache was in hand. A favourite point for bringing me back.
Thank you. David.
Thank you. David.
High tide at time of visit, so glad I didn't have to go right down to the beach, lovely spot.

Day 2 of the trip home to Christchurch, Waihi Beach to Whakatane. Hmmm the rain started. I got halfway up the cliff and bailed. Followed GPS and got the smiley. Thanks for the hide
Got to GZ after walking "down" the beaten track , great spot for a cache, it took us a while to find, but once we read the hint again, it made sense! TFTC
Quite a tough one to find but located it in the end with the hint instructions. Good area and down the hill is fairly much a goat track although at the bottom is a good spot. SL TFTC
Lovely walk today despite the rain. Waves were pounding & very impressive! GPS took a while to settle but, with the great hint, it didn't take long to find the cache. Thanks for a cache in such a great spot. TFTC
No penguins here today but a great wal, wonderful views k with good company prior to the caching event. TFTC
9350... Had fun making our way to Club Penguin through the bush bash track, found with the mini group. Many thanks for both your caches along this track buttz, we thoroughly enjoyed the great views along the way, nice to have met you at the event afterwards, cheers YuGeo4.
Very nice location! what a view.....
Grabbing a few caches in the area while passing through on our 'how ever long it takes' NZ tour.
Thanks for setting this up.

Never knew this cave was here and we have been a few times to Orokawa Bay before.... Thanks for bringing us here, unfortunately I didn't read the description before getting there, we will have to come back with a torch to explore this cave as the app on the iphone is not quite powerful enough TFTC
A wet start to our walk today - almost missed the junction -track down not too slippery - found cache after bit of looking -GZ good and hint good help too - Too wet today to go down and look at caves also still have good walk in front of us - lovely area and views TFTC
First one for the day- was meant to be fine, but alas was not to be. Good find, then back up the hill
Did not find this one on a day out to William Wright water falls I will come back and try again next year we did check out the old gold mine it goes in along way lucky we had torches
Way cool little beach - very bushy hike and at times wondered about finding track back up to the main trail. GPS was right on yet the beach was worth exploring. TFTC Cats Out Walking
It was a bit of a long search. It's a big area and so many nice spots to hide. Almost give up and yeah..... Happy that there are people who knows these spots. Beautiful spot and thanks. Still not clear if you may or may not bring your doggies with you. Did see a lot, so we had ours with us too.
Beautiful spot!! It took me some time to find this one, but finally, when I was about to give up, there it was!!! Very nice walk to get there!

Found after giving up on hint and followed gps when got to bottom of track before climbing down onto rocks. Caves are very cool, a torch is needed, these seem to go deep and light from phone does not cut it! Track down is easy enough in dry weather.
took mate with me for this one -he reckon he new where this cache was-but think the sights on the beach overheated his brain because after we went through gorse -cutter grass-cliffs he decided this wasn't the rite bay lol-should turn on GPS earlier lol-thanks bori5
#195 @ 5.42pm. Met muggles on the way to GZ who were looking for penguins. They asked us what were looking for so we briefly explained the concept of geocaching. We didn't see penguins this time but almost got stung by bees on the way down to the beach. Beautiful location. TNLN, TFTC
Came here years ago, before geocaching even existed. GPS was a bit out under tree cover, but eventually found it. TFTC.
Great little hidden area and well worth the walk down to GZ. Loved the area and so quiet away from the usual hussle of the area. TFTC
2741 After scooping up a FTF at Karangahake Gorge we couldn't resist a quick trip out to Waihi beach to collect this cache. Great walk in the early morning, the beach was already buzzing with life and locals and visitors alike enjoyed the beginning of a beautiful day. Thanks for a great cache placement, found quickly at GZ and then back along the path to enjoy some more great views. TFTC
7.00am Quick walk over to the other beach before breakfast. Do this walk most days but first time down to Shark Bay, Easy track down. Great place for a walk.
