Spending some time here up around Golden Bay and the Spit Of course these are not only lazy days , some caches need to go after Found wellTftc
We did an early morning walk on this beautiful piece of land. Found after a while since it was well away from the GPS position. I therefore repositioned it a little to where it should belong according to my feeling. TFTC
Farewell spit was on the bucket list for this 2-week Christmas break in the South island. Been here 20 years but never made it this far yet until now. Got up early to hit the trail at 6am and beat the day's heat. Enjoyed having the place to ourselves. Cache was easy to spot and had been signed by muggles 4 days ago. Luckily they didn't leave toilet paper in the bushes! Container is quite rat chewed. We saw heaps of animal trails.in the sand such as rats and cat which is sad but they were fun to photograph in the horizontal lightbof the morning. Nice easy trip. Tftc.
This has been a hell of a trek. Getting there along the southern shore of the spit was the easy part. But crossing it and returning along the north shore, with string wind blowing sand into our faces was one of the hardest treks I ever experienced.
Thanks so much for the cache, I will really remember it.

Hard to get there but finally we made it.
Longest walk we have ever made for a cache...

4 January 2022 15:27. If you are only going to find one cache in a day, you had better make it a good one! Mum wanted to visit Farewell Spit, so I decided to tag along. Whilst they headed off to the Fossils, I began the long trek up the beach counting down the distance, and admiring the variety of shells on the beach, and the birdlife. I'm no ornithologist, but even I noticed a couple of herons, numerous oystercatchers, stilts, a couple of Paradise ducks flew overhead, as did about half a dozen of what I probably imagined were Godwits. Also heard a couple of skylarks.
Eventually I reached the place to leave the beach, and my woefully inadequate footwear gave me absolutely no grip as I slogged my way up the dunes. Now where could it be? No bloody hint, aaargh! Headed to where I would have put it given where the GPS pointed, and was relieved to make a quick find.
I thought I had the beach to myself today, but as I was signing the log, a Muggle came by. Fortunately he looked too knackered to even see me as he slogged past, sunburned!
Now for the slog back over the sand dune, and the trek along the beach back to where my parents were waiting. My phone reckoned I walked 8.26 km out and back (including a visit to the whale skeleton), I can believe it! Tftc

Nice walk on the beach. Stiff easterly though. Wish I was caching last time I came here. Never mind.
Nice calm walk to gz with evilC, then a bit of scrambling to get to the cache. We decided to do the entire loop and we had no idea what we were in for! TFTC!!
No pencil, so im just fotologing not sure, if plastic container on the ground is a good cache in the midle of the nature....
#8533. I am staying in Takaka this week on a work trip. Today we headed out to Farewell Spit to put out some sound recorders to see if any bitterns are using the wetlands. Luckily we had to come up the inside of the spit to put out the recorders so I asked my host if we could stop here so I could pick up the geocache. It was soon spotted in a logical place. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache where found. Thanks bumandworker for placing the cache out here.
Found this one while taking a tour round the spit. It's a beautiful place.

.Its a great day for walking along this sandy spit with no wind here. Walked to teh signs then turned inland. I took the direct route up the sand dune and over. Finally captured this one to find another wet log. Replaced with temp RITR log to keep this one rolling along. Cheers
Its a long weekend to Takaka, with Collingwood and Farewell Spit in the mix, with Zara Toby and BTs Bro. So lets go exploring. Visited lots of awesome places. But never enough time. I will be back.

On this day we walked Sandspit beach as far as were allowed to. While the way east was rather easy, little did we know that the way north through the dunes would wait with some really slippery slopes and that on the northern way back we would literally get sandblasted. Nevertheless, it was really beautiful and a great experience. Being able to log a cache on the way was a nice bonus. However, the logbook was wet, so I made a photo as proof. TFTC!
We’re the only people to venture this far today so far, so we’ve had the remote beauty all to ourselves! Cache host seen and box found - not able to be signed though.

Just brilliant!! That was the note I made at the time as I stood by this cache out of the howling gale. We walked up the spit with a tail wind, the tide very low, with views of various wading birds in the distance. As we climbed up the sandy bank to the orange DOC marker we wondered where you could possibly place a hide, but then it became obvious as we crested the brow of the ridge. Little did we know what was in store for us over the next hour and a half or so, but this was just the start or perhaps the middle of what turned out to be an epic day. Whatever you do, don’t miss the opportunity to come and visit this remote cache.
Great spot, great day - the first of 2020. we startet this year walking along the Farewell Spit! Thx for the cache!
The paper was wet, impossible to read my nick but I took a foto too.

Found as a part of a previous group TanjackMüley, now WanderingSparrow. Now I'm continuing on my own. TFTC
We did the exact same as the previous cacher due to going to high and getting sandy feet. Once we followed the gps it was very accurate to make a quick find. Harder to open and logs damp but singable. Nice morning walk for us thanks for placing this cache here!
Pretty easy to find, went off the path a bit too high up to start with but got the right place in the end, tftc.
A refreshing walk bought us to this remarkable spot. Put a new sheet of log paper in though I am unsure how long it will remain dry.
Thanks for the cache

We found this geocache during our holiday in New Zealand. Cape Farewell and Spit today. We hiked along the coast and visited Cape Farewell, the lighthouse (no big deal) and Old Man Rock. We made the 10km walk on Spit as well. We could find some geocaches along our path. This was one of them. Thanks for this one! I wasn’t able to write my nick on the logrol because it’s all wet. Replacement is recommended. Foto log.
Found with troy222. Cldnt access the other side of the spit- too boggy but found the cache easily. Tftc!
Found the cache but after heavy rain it was floating in the swamp so moved it to higher ground.
Well, it's a "can't miss" I guess... Found it on a surprisingly beautiful, sunny day.
Decided to give this cache a go as I was staying at my sister in laws sorting out some issues after the death of her husband last weekend. Nice day to walk out no wind!!!. Read the last find log as container has broken lid? took a small screw top plastic one just in case. Placed the dry log book in new container, left the old one there as well. TFTC
Found during my trip in New Zealand.
Today, it's my 10th day of my trip.
My travel today will be Nelson - Abel Tasman - Farewell Split - Motueka.
Today I woke up early to see the lookout of the center of new Zealand in Nelson.
After that, I took my car in direction of Abel Tasman.
After hiking there, I've gone here to Farewell Split.
The walk on the east side to the cache was easy. At the cache site, nobody around, I can search easely the cache. I quickly found it.
I come back by the other side, it was very difficult to walk there, the sand was very soft and there was a lot of wind. The walk seems very long by this side.
Thanks for this cache and thanks for discovering this place !

We walked the long way to enjoy this really wonderful place and the Highlight a cache we have no pen with us , but I hope photolog is OK. Box is broken but a new logbook is inside and OK. But box should be changed. Thanks for this cache on this great place
I had decided to have a walk along the Spit today hopefully signing off a couple of caches.
This was the second I encountered. I made a beeline to the most obvious hidey hole and there it was.
I didn't have a spare container with me as this one has cracked along the top on two sides with the plastic being very brittle. It won't last too much longer.
Cheers for the cache.

Over from Brisbane for a number of weeks "motorhoming" around the South Island with IolantheK [^]
Now to do some exploring of the North or top of NZ, and grabbing caches between views [^]
Well this is about as North as we are going to get on the South Island of NZ.
Cache container is cracked and the log wasn't in its sealed bag. We dried out things as best as we could, put the original log back in its bag and added a new log doubled bagged [^] Hope this last for a while.

T-Tech and I are travelling around South Island for 6 weeks
We stayed last night at the free camp below Waitapu bridge and today are heading north as far as we can. Along the way we will be grabbing a few caches.
This cache was high on my hitlist as it would be the furthest north cache we could get to in the South Island. We made sure to grab water and a snack and wet weather gear and set off for the long walk to GZ. An hour later we were onto the dunes to make the find. The cache lid is cracked, the container full of water, and the log saturated and unusable, so we dried it out as well as we could, then added a fresh log sheet in a clean baggie. TFTC, bumandworker.

Found with skweak during our holiday around the top of the south. No pen so logged our proof in photo from log by skweak
We walked the full circuit around the track this morning. Amazing how different the two beaches are.
The cache was an easy find, thanks very much for placing it here. My pen decided to stop working at the critical moment so I have attached a photo.

I really wanted to go out for a short run, jogging a bit at the beach. Well, it wasn't what I got. The way at the southern beach was nice (as was the wind in my back) and as I started my way through the dunes to find the cache, I wasn't aware of what was in front of me. The cache was an easy find, be the rest of the way wasn't easy at all. Jogging in the dunes was quite impossible, but jogging back was, too! The wind got so stormy that the flying sand started to hurt on the skin. The whole tour took much longer than I expected and was very exhausting - but at least, I got a nice way to the cache and I found a well hidden cache.
Thanks for that!

At World’s End – New Zealand – One of our dream become true.
Our plan was to stay 4 weeks in New Zealand. But this wasn’t this easy to manage at work. So we moved spontanic the plan from march to november. We informed us before about point of interessts. The list was this long so we decided to go by campervan from the north to the south to have the most mobility. We arrived after way to much hours in Auckland and started there our round trip. At first we enjoyed the area in auckland and the north. In Waitomo we were able to see and enjoy glohworms in one of the famous caves. But this area had a lot of nice hiking trails were we could discovered the Piripiri Caves, Natural Bridge and the Marokopa Falls. This was already impressive to see and still the beginning of our adventure for life. The trip went on over Okere Falls Scenic Reserve direction Rotorua. In this area we enjoyed each hour, because each corner was different. We visited the Haumurana Springs – what amazing water -, Blue Lake and Green Lake and relaxed in Kerosene Creek. We liked all the water and in our travel guide we found a hike cloth to the Huka Falls, which ofcourse we did as well. All this flowers were bloom. One oft the Highlights was Wai-O-Tapu. The weather was perfect and all this colors awesome and the geysir a nice shower. By Campercan the to tour went on direction Tongariro Alpine with a short stop at Orakei Korako and the Tongariro River Loop Track. Lu like nice hiking tours and what could be the best for her birthday? Of course the famous Tongariro Alpine Crossing. We started early in the morning and walked approximately 9 hours over gras, stones, snow and colorful water. Now we had to leave the Heart of North New Zealand and went over Taranaki Falls to the East Coast with the goal Napier. The weather was cloudy and often raining but a small sightseeing was a must have. The last stop on the North Irland was Wellington. But it was only raining and some streets were already flooded. That’s why we change spontanic our plan and only did the First Cache of New Zealand and went by ship over the Marlboro Sound to Picton. We went over Farewell Spit to the lonely Wharariki Beach with sea lions. On the way back to the big streets we stopped at Waikoropupu Spring and Janie Sesson Shipwreck and drove untypical to Karamea. In Germany we do not have this much and public caves and that’s way we enjoyed this area! Cloth to the West Coast we took a look at the Pancake Rocks. The weather was just raining and so we could not see the Franz Josef and Fox Glacier, but we still visited them. We leaved the bad weather in the hills and enjoyed the Sun at Ship Creek, Thunder Creek, Fantail Falls and the Blue Pools. Wow they were relly blue and this clean and deep. I never saw something similar before. About Wanaka we read a lot in our travel guide and looked forward to it. There arrived we visited the Puzzling World and walked around the sea. Queenstown the next town we drove just through because at this time there was a marathon and it was really campervan unfriendly. So we used the time and drove to Milford Sound and enjoyed the hills surround us on the water. I never felt this small. After we are landed again on land the trip goes on to the Chasm and Clifden Caves and the Clifden Suspension Bridge. Wow what an adventure. At the end we visited a few cities like Bluff, Duneding, Moeraki Boulders and Christchurch were our Trip sadly ends.
At all this places we looked for nice and unique caches which shows us places which we never would had seen without. We enjoyed the nature and wildlife each day and it was really an adventure for life. At the end we drove approximately 5000 kilometeres and felt this relaxed.
Thanks to all owners for placing this caches and this much informations which we got about the particular areas. This was an adventure for life for us. Thanks for this beauty time.

An enjoyable walk along the beach to this cache. It was about mid tide when we set out, and the water was so far away we couldn't see it. After completing the loop, it was amazing to see the water at the car park right into the shoreline. The cache was a quick easy find as we started to cross the spit. The highlight of the walk back down the beach on the other side was seeing a massive number of birds (?dotterels) sitting on the sand, and eventually, reluctanty, taking to the air en masse as we approached. We've made the cache a favourite. TFTC
Did the round trip a nice walk along the Cook Straight side the water is so clear and clean on this side, loved the sand hills and see they are taking over the flax bushes Yay ( don't like flax bushes after this morning )
We parked the car at the café and went in there for a cup of coffee and a very tasty cake . Then we decided to walk along the beach to this cache. It was a distance of nearly 4 km, but we really enjoyed it . We saw a lot of different birds (and later, as we walked back on the North coast, also two seals, laying on the sand.
The box was easily found, when we arrived at the GZ. Thanks for the cache and for leading us to this area. That deserves a favourite point [^].

Late logging (sorry). This was one of many found with Rincewind3 (husband) and NZGecko (daughter) during our summer holiday in this beautiful part of the country.
Well the walk was longer than expected, but we had a blast. Got some cool family photos and some lasting memories. We can't wait to get up this way again.

What a cool experience! Have always wanted to get out on the Spit and now we finally have. We had a nice walk along the beach on the way to an easy cache find. Passed a few people doing the same thing. We had the GZ to ourselves though. The walk back took longer - it was getting on and we were getting tired.

When we returned from the very recommendable tour to the spit - well worth the money, we simply jumped off the bus (well, he did stop for us) at the legal point and walked the rest, so we had more time to walk and explore.
First we headed south over the dunes to find this caches, followed the inland beach, went to the sea-beach again and then over to the parking lots.
Great walk, felt like being where we should be, finally.
In: Personal AWC.
Out: Little rubber Penguin.

After the Abel Tasman Coastal Walk we wanted a tramping free day. However, we did the Beach Walk at Farewall Splite and it was awesome. Thanks for placing the cache there.
We started with an excellent view of the bay at low tide from the visitor centre, then set off down the hill for our walk. It was warm, sunny, but windy. We noted the skeleton and stopped at the info board, before heading onto the beautiful beach and heading out to the spit. The walk took us an hour (with the wind behind us blowing us along) to this cache at the end which was an easy find, and the cross-over part of the dunes was amazing with its hidden lagoons and bird life, but unfortunately on the ocean side it was a virtual whiteout of a sand storm coming at us, which meant we couldn't see (or hardly dare breathe! ) so we had to retrace our steps and come back down the bay side (this time with the wind, but at least not the sand (!) against us). In all it took us 3 hours and was very exhilarating. Have a FAV for encouraging us to come all the way out to this amazing place. [^] TFTC [5295]

Our third bumandworker cache of our touring holiday from Wellington to Farewell Spit and back. Before we started on this walk we'd also already done the Farewell Spit Earthcache and found the cache near Fossil Point (not bumandworker caches). The main objective of the day was to walk on the Spit as much as was allowed. We had considered the Eco bus tour as well, but in the end decided if we were going to spend that much money we wanted better weather for more contrasty photos along the Spit with blue skies: today was mainly high cloud and the colour palette looked more like a water colour painting.
With the wind at our backs we headed from Fossil Point up the Ocean Beach until the marker pole told us to head across to the other side. Climbing those big dunes in the middle was hard work and as for the DOC sign that said '15 minutes' to get to the other side...Yeah, right.
At GZ Mrs B announced in advance exactly where she thought the cache would be before I even had the GPSr out to check and sure enough, she was spot on. We do like easy caches after having a long walk to GZ, many thanks. Then we crunched our way back along the Inner Beach walking on all the shells back to the car park, finding a couple of whale vertebrae on the beach amongst the shells.
This was a really great trip: we both felt it was substantially better visually heading East on Ocean Beach and West on Inner Beach rather than the other way around and thoroughly recommend everyone else who looks for this cache to do the same: it is almost surreal heading into a vista that contains little except an apparition of rock rising out of sand in the far distance. The attached photo doesn't do the experience justice. TFTC and a favourite point to go with it.

Having spent hours in the water 1 km further along the spit helping in the rescue effort of a large pod of stranded pilot whales i couldn't walk past a cache on the way back. Was an effort to get over the sand dune but the smile and view made up for it. But even better was the sight of the surviving whales moving further out into the bay fingers crossed they keep going TFTC

This spit is 26km long! So much for my idea to walk out to the tip. But at least I got this far. Here - have a favourite and a pathtag.
TFTC! I found your cache today and i will do a complete log when I get back to my computer. Back at computer now, i am so glad to get this one now last time made the effort got to GZ and searched and nothing but a lot of water GZ was submerged along with part of the cross over track to the other side. It was confirmed later that it was not missing, so today returned to complete this one . Another day with the clouds hanging on the hills threatening rain again but we endured and continued making the most of the tide being out we made quick time to GZ and the cache was quickly in my hands exactly where we had checked last time by reaching down in the water. yay finally completed. To top it off the sun came out stronger and we had a great walk Thanks for placing this cache and maintaining it

Last time here the whole area was flooded, no luck with the cache and got drenched walking back to the car - this time the weather looked ominous - but turned out lovely - had a head wind all the way out but as the tide was out we were able to make it a shorter more direct walk out to the cache site - this time all was nice and dry and the cache was quickly found and log signed seems the track is not under water we decided to head on over to the beach and do the loop walk Am pleased to have got the find on this one - thanks for bringing us out here ( twice ) and the cache now for the walk down the beachside
We took the long way round via the ocean beach. Spotted a seal and a huge flock of Godwits, Knots, Oyster Catchers and Black Swans. Found the cache with little problem - GPS spot on!

Had lunch in the car park before heading on a little trek along the beach. It turned out to be a bit of a battle against a strong head wind all the way to gz. Lots of jelly fish washed up on the morning tide.Im glad there was no trouble finding this one today. The journey back was made a little easier with the wind on our backs.TFTC
I was on a tour in the rain yesterday that got called off. Today the weather was much friendlier. But with the high tide it was quite difficult to walk. Generally it is tiering to walk on sand. Without the cache I would have turned around much earlier. TFTC
I had to do this loop walk! It's been amazing.
So long and thanks for all the cache! - 20:54 - koem
