It's a long weekend in NZ, due to someone having a fake birthday. I care not one iota for that, but will happily take a paid day off work to go geocaching Very Happy Having spent the last couple of days in Palmy, the plan for today was to head back to Wellington using the scenic route (IE through the Wairarapa) in order for me to target as many of the new Apple geoart as I could get, and as many others as I would need to achieve finding 50+ for the day, to help me with my qualifying for the DGSc Challenge. In spite of passing through Pahiatua on several occasions, as well as spending an entire weekend camping just down the road about 18 months ago, I still hadn't quite gotten around to finding all the caches available in and around here, so figured I would kickstart my caching day putting that right.Sadly, this would be my first of 4 DNFs for me today. GZ is littered with detritus, and if there was ever some kind of BBQ there then it's either long gone or else it's whatever is buried by the rampant ingress of Ivy. Maybe the cache is still there, but I'll wait for someone to find it before I return for another look...

15-Jul-23
Road trip for Team BOP over the long weekend.

After completing the Vikings Series yesterday, we decided we needed less quantity, more quality caches today and a more relaxing schedule.

Our accommodation is in Woodville, so made sense to clear this town of caches also.
Searched for this with a previous finder, but unfortunately, this was a DNF today.

Had a good poke around for ages, unfortunately not there for us today. Thanks anyway, hopefully will be back at some other time.

15-Jul-23
No luck today

24-Feb-23
I’ve lived in Pahiatua on and off for 18 years and never knew this place existed so this was a really cool cache for me. Couldn’t resist doing a flip on the old playground on the way out lol

12-Feb-23
Didn't find it, but there was a bit of broken glass around and the weather started playing up so probably just needed to look harder. Will come back another time

07-Feb-23
7 February 2023 22:12 TFTC J 'N' K for placing this cache, number 12330 for me. This had annoyed me over several visits, I persuaded NZ_B to accompany me today on yet another attempt! Eventually got there ..

07-Feb-23
A good clue and although we searched hard we had no luck to decided to paf. As luck would have it he remembered exactly where it he cache is which made the second visit today successful.

Infoferret has a few days of leave to use up and asked if I would like to accompany her on a jaunt to Napier. How could I say no???

Kia ora rawa atu for the cache J 'N' K.

Returning home from the events at Carnival Park in Pahiatua, caching as I go. Sad to see this domain derelict, although the tennis courts still look in good condition. Quick find, all good. Tftc!

(# 7369) A drive up from Wellington for a weekend of events, caching and social get together. This was found on day 2. A quick find. Thanks for bringing me here.

24-Jun-22
On a weekend mission of geocaching with Squirrel Nutcase and FapnGap.
. Nice quick find here today cache is in good condition. Thanks for hiding the cache.

24-Jun-22
With (Mr) Davidson Clan and Gap (of Fap and Gap)… On a boy’s weekend roadtrip south.

We hadn’t planned to visit the tennis courts and a couple of ‘paper roads’ had us guessing about access… No barbecues today - or for a while, it seems. We quickly applied the hint and found this good hide. Thanks J’N’K and TFTC.

24-Jun-22
once we found the right entry point to tennis courts.
cache quickly found with hint.

21-Jun-22
Brilliant. Another great place I wouldn't know of without hunting out a geocache. The tennis courts are in excellent condition and could be used but for a lack of nets. Being an NZMCA member I was able to access and make use of the 'good' toilet which was fortuitous.
FP deserved and given. Fulfils another segment of my 140-141° from home challenge. TFTC

Been working in Masterton for a week and now heading home. Picking up some caches on the way. This was my second visit here but this time Mrs Rubbishparty was with me. Wasn’t sure how to interpret the hint so tried several options. Everything very overgrown but finally had the cache in hand after going back to our original search place. Not sure too much tennis is played here anymore which is sad. Thanks J.N.K for the smiley.

24-Jan-21
Staying in the domain for the night and thought it would be rude not to uplift this one while we were here.

Started to pour down with rain the minute I got out of the car. It sure is a pretty run down park. TFTC

Found while out on a bike ride around Pahiatua. Lovely hidden little park. Easy find. Signed log and replaced where found. TFTC.

06-Dec-20
Staying with friends for the weekend, so as it's a sunny day, cacheing I go. Looked around the said hint, came up at a loss. Read some previous logs and viewed a couple of photos. Cache was soon in hand less the cobwebs. Log signed and cache placed back as found. Cache is all good. Cheers

29-Oct-20
Staying at the Domain in our motorhome while tikitouring around the southern half of the North Island. Never been here before so interested to see what's in the Wairarapa area. Just had to find this cache while next door. Geopup insisted on his walk so he helped find the cache. TFYC.

30-Aug-20
We enjoyed seeing a bit of history in our own backyard. Sad to say, we didn't even know it was here. Thanks for the find!

#7897. I decided last night I needed to get back into some caching over in the Wairarapa and with a good weekend forecast prepared a list of caches for a road trip today. This was one of them. The day dawned clear and sunny. It turned out to be one of those special days over in the Wairarapa where the visibility was outstanding, the tops of the Tararuas looked so inviting and the air was very warm for autumn. Managed to find just under 30 caches sprinkled between Masterton and Woodville, mopping up a few remaining solved skindo puzzles on side roads and other pockets of overlooked traditionals from the many previous adventures over this way. With the Breeze playing on the car radio and then The Sound it was a nice relaxing trip down memory lane.

This cache: Parked out on the road and wandered through the reserve to the tennis courts. Reached the GZ and realised there could be quite a few hiding options in this area so checked the hint. Luckily it made sense to me so found the cache quite quickly. Did need a stick to remove cobwebs. There was no nasty bug in attendance fortunately. Signed the logbook and returned the cache where found. Thanks J'N'K for hiding it here.

08-Jan-20
This one hadn't been found for a while. Hiding place was a mass of cobwebs so a stick probe was required. Cache located! TFTC!

What a view ️

I initially missed the cache in my first sweep around as it was hidden by lots of spiderwebs. Luckily a stick was close by and I was able to find my way to the cache. All quiet at GZ.

TFTC Smile

14-Aug-18
Eeew hundreds of slaters and this awesome spider who was not very impressed with being disturbed. Much bigger than any spider we get around home and we get some big ones. Very glad we don't have any that look like this. Mrs S would freak out.

Thanks anyway J 'N' K.

We had set out this evening looking to relieve a little stress with some fresh air and caching and this spot was just perfect. An RV had parked by the swing set but the muggles were settled cosily inside so we had no interruptions for our wander through the sports areas. As it was nearly sunset I wasn't sure at first that I'd found the cache, since it was very well camouflaged with natural items. A few good jabs with a stick convinced me I'd hit pay dirt and we were soon signing the log and taking photos. Miss 3Prettys had a few minutes on the swing then we headed home with our primary mission accomplished.
Thank you for the placement of this cache, still in great shape after 8 years!

26-Feb-18
Visit again

13-Aug-17
Over in Pahiatua with a couple of the Jr. Cachers for hockey training and as this was a dot-day it was great to have some caches to do too. Clearing out the caches to the north of town and this was next on the list. Wasn't sure quite how to get to GZ but spotted a helpful road sign and made it to the domain.

Tennis must have been quite the thing here at some stage to justify two double-court playing surfaces, although one pair has obviously fallen into disrepair and now incongruously sports a basketball hoop slap bang in the middle. The remaining courts appear to still be in regular use as there was a competition scoreboard written up on the blackboard.

Soon located the cache at GZ, although disturbed a large cluster of wood-louse/pill-bugs in the process that scattered everywhere. Thankfully there were none around the container and soon had everything back in place. TFTC J'N'K.

05-Jun-17
Love the old school courts. Took us a while to find this and team work to retrieve. Once we replaced cache we figured out a much easier way to retrieve. TFTC Smile

02-Jul-16
Out collecting a load of firewood and we thought we would grab a couple of caches in the area. Could resist this one with it being so close at hand. Cheers.

12-Jun-16
Again hubby had it before i got there. Been here before but it was swarming with workmen so we had to just drive by. Logged under the shelter if the shed by the tennis courts. Raining.

25-Apr-16
An ANZAC Day cache. That's a bit of extra special. Visited here as we made our way back towards home base. Not much going on around here today. In fact nothing happening. Good conditions for the cacher.
We had cause to order why it has taken us this long to get to a cache that was hidden here in 2010. That I can't really explain.
Fortunately a straightforward find. Cache in order; log signed, cache then safely re-hidden, just as found.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too Big Grin

One of many finds during a 1288km weekend cache raid of the area. We enjoyed great weather, fun caches and we managed to fill a few boxes on some challenges we are working towards. Took us a little while to locate this one but got there in the end TFTC.

One of many great caches found with Envy-Us and Waiiti20 on a 100 plus find caching day in the Wairarapa. Many thanks to the CO's for the cache placements, the many puzzle caches we found, the great journey we had around the many back country roads, and the many interesting places we visited. Sorry for the generic type log. TFTC.

06-Dec-14
An enjoyable day in the North Western Wairarapa with Waiiti20 and drawp. A generic log due to the many finds, but our thanks to those who have placed caches in this scenic area - both roadside and in the Tararua Forest Park. We enjoyed some fun finds and a few lonely caches but most of all an excuse to drive (on almost every road thanks skindo) through this part of the country. TFTC

11-Jan-14
The courts are still in good nick, the beaten path to the neighbour's house suggests why.

28-Dec-13
I made a good move by surveying the area and looking for a likely hiding spot before rushing in like I usually do. A nicely hidden cache. I guess there would usually be activity here on other Saturday afternoons over summer.

14-Dec-13
This one was very well hidden. Very Random place for a tennis court. TFTC

Looks like tennis is still being played on a couple of the courts, but not today fortunately.
Could see the cache, but my mitts were unable to grab, so StreetWalker's longer hands did the trick.

found with The Seagnoid and AyJay at the end of day two of our 60+ cache weekend
The others went off in one direction so I went off in the other and surprisingly came up trumps!
Introduced the neighbour to GeoCaching after crashing his dinner party...

05-Aug-12
Went down the wrong road and ended in somone's front yard right on dusk. A quick chat to the owner soon put us right. Ayjay and I checked around the obvious spot, so Etherlord just went to the right place and grabbed it. Big Grin It's like he knew it was there!
