This one was a bit risky for miss Em so she sent dad in for the grab. We left a British Columbia pin that I swapped many years ago with a Canadian girl guide.
On a trip south from Tauranga. Nice to collect smiles along the way. Cycling the OTR. Apologies for some previous logs where I forgot to change my log template. Enjoying the fab scenery around these parts. Met up with Dee+ME to cycle with as our muggle hubbies we’re more interested in other things lol.
I am logging using the Cachly app template so please excuse generic logging along the way. It’s just my way of keeping track, but I do genuinely thank each and every one of you cache owners for taking the time and energy to place these caches. Logged with permission. Many Thanks for bringing me here. Cheers.

Now cycling the central otago rail trail an awesome experience. With a few caches to provide the cherry on top. TFC
Yah really pleased to be riding Middlemarch to Ranfurly part of the rail trail today. Stopped in Middlemarch last night and meeting up with family for Easter at Naseby.
Glad to be able to pick up caches along the way

My pen decided to run out here. Imprinted the log!
Had the most wonderful trip completing the rail trail. Thanks so much for popping these caches along the way - so enjoyable

Our final day on the ORT heading from Waipiata to Middlemarch...
Thankfully Mrs MSEBN and HorsegirlNZ had stopped here to let me catch up a bit, both now starting to recognise potential cache locations if not the actual GZ itself!
I didn't need to keep them waiting here for long.
Thanks drawp

Day3 on the Otago rail trail and we were heading from Wedderburn to Hyde. Very wndy here today and we almost got blown off our bikes on our approach to gz. Short scramble down and we had the cache in hand.
The cache was easy enough to find but the strong wind conditions certainly added to the level of difficulty
Continuing our journey along the rail trail. Another quick find here. Got to keep going, the rain is threatening. tftc
With a few extra riders along we had slowed down, and managed to get this one before the last rider arrived for the photo op.

Daughter guessed it would b there but u need to be 5feet tall at least to see it!
Biking the rail trail with some friends today, we picked up some caches along the way. We were happy for a stop here while searching. Tftc!
Spent the day cycling from Ranfurly back to Middlemarch and finding caches on the way.
On another trip to Central for a family event. I love coming here and getting a few caches is a bonus. I biked the rail trail about 10 years ago and remembered this viaduct so was keen to get this. So I took the stroll from the parking spot and enjoyed it. I left a TB. Thanks.

For my personal challenge of working towards getting my calendar on GC.COM to be at least the same shade of green or darker I need to sign off at least 6 caches today. I won't grumble if I find one or two more. I had shifted my snail shell inland to Ranfurly the other day.
Read the info board before I got there. Very interesting. Found the cache lying on the rocks. So after signing the log I placed it back on top of the abutment behind some rocks.
Cheers for the cache

Staying in Middlemarch for a couple of days and todays plan was to head to Swinburn caching all the way. After lunch and a couple of caches in Ranfurly it was time to head back to Middlemarch with a stop here and a bit of a ride along part of the rail trail. A beautiful afternoon for a ride with awesome views along the way. Great fun riding across the bridge and then a bit of a scramble and cache soon in hand TFTC
Day 4. In central Otago to bike the world famous Otago rail trail with family. I would highly recommend doing this ride to everyone we had a fantastic time. We didn't collect all the caches along the way but I think we will be back one day to sign the rest. Five days off stunning views tunnels, viaducts, and all the history as well. Thank you for all the caches we did find along the trail it has been a most interesting journey.
Really enjoying riding this part of the trail awesome ....a quick stop and scurry down under to find a nice clean cache signed and replaced ...thanks Drawp for the tidy we placement neat viaduct
Another welcome stop on our journey but close to our destination for today. Thanks for the placement drawp.
Quick find in a great spot. In NZ to do the Otago Rail Trail. TFTC, and greetings from Melbourne.
Had a quick look on my way down wrong end so went back and completed the job.

I'm driving the support vehicle for family doing the rail trail so this area was a good spot to get the bike off the rack and do some cycling.
rustynz tells me I need to catch up with all my logging
This was when we were in the South Island, doing the Otago cycle rail trail.
Sorry for the generic logs. But thank you to all the CO for the hides and the maintenance on all your caches.

More cycling to the next cache, another perfect day on the Otago Rail Trail, cycling from Wedderburn to Hyde with rebel98 and muggles.
Had good search even made small person crawl in small spaces, might be worth seeing if it's been removed. Cheers
TFTC Thank you for going to the effort of hiding this cache. You have shown us a new place and have helped make geocaching an enjoyable activity.
The younger member of our team walked here from Tiroiti while the old guy drove to Hyde to await her arrival there. A pleasant walk before it got too hot.
+ a marble, - nothing.
+ a marble, - nothing.
Easy find after a pleasant walk. We missed the horse entry point and walked up the road to gain access to the rail trail which added on a bit. Oh well, we need the exercise. Nobody out riding today. TFTC
Thanks for showing me this location and the cache!

Sorry for logging late...
This cache was visited by me either during the one month (February 2015) of hiking/tramping in NZ together with Bärgegumperli or in March/April 2015 while on a bicycle trip across NZ and AUS.
We/I enjoyed geocaching a lot.
Hiking
Hikes:
- Abel Tasman NP: Motueka, Kaiteriteri, Marahau, Inland Track, Separation Point, Coastal Track, Marahau.
- Nelson Lakes NP: St. Arnaud, Hopeless Hut, Travers Saddle, Blue Lake, Waiau Pass, Thompson Pass, D'Urville Valley, Lake Angelus, St. Arnaud.
- Arthur's Pass NP: Mt Brown Hut, Styx Valley, Browning Pass, Whitehorn Pass, Waimakariri Valley, Jordan Saddle, Hut Spur, Arthur's Pass, Mt Aicken
- Bridle Path
The weather conditions were great for tramping almost every single day. We enjoyed the beautiful landscape, the peace in some very remote areas and the many friendly people we met on our way or in the different huts.
Cycling from Dunedin to Auckland
It is not my first tour with this bicycle (map with long loading time).
Places along the route: Dunedin, Otago Central Rail Trail, East Manuherikia track, Tekapo, Fairlie, Geraldine, Oxford, Waipara, Hanmer Springs, Jacks Pass, Island Saddle, Picton, Wellington, Homedale, Hutt River Trail, Masterton, Pongaroa, road near Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakitanatahu, Waipukurau, Fernhill, Taupo, Whakamaru, Tirau, Hauraki Rail Trail, Kawakawa Bay, Aukland.
After one month of perfect weather (see above) I finally got what I had to expect: Some rain... And sometimes stron headwinds. That the route was not flat at all meant usually that the landscape is great .
*
Cycling from Melbourne to Darwin
Places along the route: Melbourne, Great Ocean Road, Penshurst, Edenhope, Jervois Ferry, Sedan, Tanunda, Crystal Brook, Port Augusta, Coober Pedy, Uluru/Ayers Rock, The Olgas/Kata Tjuta, Mereenie Loop, Alice Springs, Karlu Karlu/Devil's Marbles, Litchfield NP, Mandorah, Darwin.
Along the coast the weather was often wet and cold. The small roads in Victoria and South Australia were very pleasant to ride despite a lot of headwind. This changed as soon as I reached the Stuart Hwy to sometimes strong tailwinds. That's why I had some "spare" time to ride a loop in the Red Centre. Further north
As in NZ i met some awesome people.

Guess what I did while waiting for a connecting plane in Perth?
Greetings from Switzerland / Gruess us dr Schwiiz
*There are a lot(!) of caches which I did not search while on the bicycle trip. The reasons are mainly:
1. Stopping slows if one wants to get somewhere, especially on bridges where no one wants to slow down a fully loaded touring bike. Yes, there were quite a few days with >200 km on the pushbike...
2. Riding or resting next to a loaded (recumbent) bike attracts in some areas so much attention that stealth mode is not possible.
3. On rare occasions I rode during the night. If I had to do that there was no time to search for caches anyway [:-(]
4. Some places I did really not consider worth stopping for a cache... Sorry.

We stopped for this cache, and a look at the bridge, while cycling through from Naseby to Middlemarch - was just starting to rain as the weather packed it in, with headwinds all the way for the rest of the day. TFTC
Great area. We thought the cache looked in good nick. Meet our 1st cyclist here while on our ride from Middlemarch to Wedderburn and they were on a tandem, riding into the breeze and showers. TFTC
My son Geomancer found it. Lovely day thanks for a great stop on the rail trail. Only 33k to go!
Biking the rail trail with Otago Tramping and Mountaineering Club . Found by PC Sniff while I chatted with a couple of lovely girls who were walking from Hyde to Daisybank. Amazing bit of engineering. Thanks for the cache.
Another good place to stop and after a short scramble the cache was in hand. Found with Aoraki Sheep.
Saw a wild cat run across the trail while riding over the viaduct but it was well gone by the time we'd stopped for this cache. Found with debsnz
Found during a family trip to complete the Otago Rail Trail. We enjoyed all the excuses to get off the bikes and explore all the nooks and crannies on the way. A very beautiful area, particularly with the autumn colours on display.
Many thanks to all the owners of the great caches we found along the way.

Second find on a day trip along the trail between Hyde and Waipiata. The major storm the day before had left everything very wet along the track but today was a beautiful day for a ride. My companions rode on ahead whilst I stopped to collect this cache - I then had a whole lot of ground to cover to catch up. TFTC!
a very nice cache on the way from Ranfurly to Middlemarch. A lovely day for caching.

Found at the start of a cycle trip along the Central Otago Rail Trail. A brilliant trail through magnificent country. TFTC
This was an exciting place today in all the wind. Managed to find a way to the cache on the lee side. Viaduct looks good from below.
