A plan was hatched quite a while ago when the Dunedin Mega was announced to come over to the South Island again.I have only been to New Zealand twice before and I loved the South Island. So a chance to come back for a Mega was a no brainer for me.Everything was booked and I flew in the Saturday before after a bit of a delay.Hopefully the weather improves as Im missing the sunshine that I had earlier on on this trip.So Day 14 of my Mega NZ starts and Im heading off to Timaru to check out that town and Im slowly heading North again.I made it up and over Lindis Pass and are now heading towards Omarama where I turned off earlier on this trip.So I stopped for another cairn and noticed the clay cliffs which I didnt have time to visit on my way down but that will be my next stop. Thanks drawp TFTC.
Finally a cache with enough space to park the camper off the road. Had to wait for muggles who had parked on the other side of the road to take their photos of the clay cliffs, then off on the search. Found quickly - tftc
We stopped next to one cairn, no joy there. Then realised there were quite a few piles to search through. Good job the co ordinates were good. TFTC
Having spent a lovely three days in Otematata we then made our way over to Queenstown - we grabbed a few caches on the way. Spot on co-ords here made for a quick find TFTCTim and Viv - ddm
Found while driving through the area with PollytheCollie on our tour through the South Island. Nice drive through the pass. Still a little snow around despite the warm sunshine. TFTC
While travelling towards Wanaka today we pulled over in a handy roadside rest stop and realised this cache was nearby. Mrs nzk whipped across the road and pulled a large cairn apart, but no cache, then realised the coords were indicating several meters further away! It’s a shame Mr nzk didn’t notice what was happening as it would have made a very funny video. The cache was quickly found at the correct cairn and she then rebuilt both. Thanks for the fun challenge drawp, unfortunately no time for further cairn reconstruction today, or we would have done the others too. Fave!
Just found out I actually found this two years ago but forgot to log. So have signed log again.
Seems I've unexpectedly been targetting drawp caches... that's fine though... Pulled over as the drivetest laptop was going weird so gave it a reboot... and there's a geocache here! excellent, let me add my name to the list of finds..
TFTC drawp, the cache was found in good order Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 2 find(s) of 2 today, making this find #3851

Day 3 on our holiday in New Zealand. On the way from Twizel to Te Anau, we also visited this traditional cache, searched the box, found it, and signed the logbook

A sweltering day in paradise again. Nabbed a couple of caches while traveling down this road. All good here. TFTC
Automatically headed for the cairn on our side of the road, then realized the Gps was pointing across the road to a small pile of rocks
Thanks for putting this here
Thanks for putting this here
The first of the series for us so it was not another cairn but just a cairn. We found some others soon after so we did find some another cairns.
Thanks.
Thanks.

A blue face here from a few years ago. No problem this time thank goodness. Thanks for the placement drawp
A masterful and memorable cairn. Glad we diverted here on our way to Tekapo. Love the cliffs too. Found with Piwaka54. TFTC
Stopped off to stretch our legs and lo and behold a cache here.
Quick find, tyftc

Found with StreetWalkerNZ on day 2 of our geocaching trip down south. Today we are travelling from Twizel to Te Anau, the day started with clear blue skies (but rather chilly) and ended in rain as we neared our destination.
We drove past the various cairn caches on a trip a few years back as we didn't have time to stop for even half the drive bys. Today we stopped and looked for all four of them .
This was a great spot to view the intriguing clay cliffs - which are on the bucket list. We parked right by the huge cairn with trepidation only to realise that the GPSr was pointing over the road. Phew! Cache was quickly found, but soon worked out that only one of us should rebuild the cairn as SW managed to smash my little finger in the process . TFTC.

#18789. A great spot for a cache (lots of safe parking and great views of the cliffs). There was a slight mishap rebuilding the cairn (Troodles found out it wasn't a good idea leaving her hand on top of the cairn at the same time I am placing a stone on top). TFTC.
Had to do a quick dash from second cairn cache as a large truck appeared on the horizon. Didn't want to tangle with it getting third cairn cache. Good cache
After spending a couple of days around Cromwell we are now on our way north to Omarama or perhaps further. Mr S got this one after Mrs S checked some of the other cairns around.
Thanks drawp. Another smilie.

Quick find while travelling south. Had to share my park with a red car with blue & red flashing lights and his friends in a very fast white car . Fortunately I was back in my car by the time they pulled up so I knew it wasn’t me he was after. Tftc
We are on the road again. Today we found some very nice geocaches and enjoyed it to walk along every single trail.

Together with TEMBO! I had a really interesting geocaching-trip today. We could find some geocaches, met some locals and had a great talk to them.
Concerning this geocache I want to say thanks because we had much fun in searching and finding this geocache! The cache made our trip even more interesting!

An easy find on the main highway although pulling off the road can be problematical when there is heaps of traffic shooting along the road. A great view of the Clay Cliffs from here.
Why so many cairns? Since we had to destroy this one to find the cache we have rebuilt it as instructed. See photo on flumsy2’s log. Thanks for placing this.
For my personal challenge of working towards getting my calendar on GC.COM to be at least the same shade of green or darker I need to sign off at least 12 caches today. I won't grumble if I find one or two more. Today I decided to go for a drive through the Lindis Pass to locate and sign off the required caches.
Cheers for the cache.
Cheers for the cache.
Day 3 of a 4 day road trip. My mission on this trip was to travel South and West and then East and North. This road trip was all about the numbers but not quite in the usual way. In fact it was hours and hours spent on the road in search of minutes (and caches). I'm filling in gaps in my 'minutes' found across New Zealand in order to complete the 400 minutes challenge for the cache GC7YQZ8 - at the start of this trip I had a 52 minute gap to fill. And Another Cache. TFTC, Biggles.

Quick find on the way to the campsite.

Today we are headed from Fairley to Lake Wanaka with stops along the way. We are visiting from Toronto ON Canada to spend 24 days with our daughter who lives in Wellington NZ. Quick stop at GZ. Found at 2:48 PM. Thank you drawp for placing and maintaining this cache.
Found with nissan 65. Flew in from sydney for a short holiday. Hoping to see as much as i can on the south island and pick up caches along the way . Thanku for the cache.
Up for some fishing in the Twizel Canals. Great weather while here. TFTC.
Took a second pile of rocks before i got the find. Tftc. These are great! Especially on lovely days like this.
In Omarama for a caching weekend with BCD. A lovely drive around an area I have never been to before and after visiting the Ahuriri Wetlands it was time to head back with a few P&G's for me while BCD was driving. I never knew what a Cairn was until today and there were many I inspected along the way back to Omarama! TFTC
last full day before flying home, we have managed over 2000kms and not quite 500 caches but a great week away, thanks to all the COs who have placed these caches and taken the time to look after them.
Lots of traffic on the road today and only so many photos one can take. Had a quick look but the stones look like they get moved around a lot so need to come back again and have a decent look.
Took a little while, my GPS showing a bit off, but looked **in** the obvious cairn and there it was. The cairn closer to GZ is just 3 rock, so no hide there. Restacked cairn and took pic. Lid is cracked, so cache is well in to hopefully avoid getting wet.

On our way back north from Invercargill, so stopped off to look for this one. Thought this might be another dnf following the other down the road, but then spotted a suspicious white lid poking out of the gravel 10m from GZ and nowhere near any cairn. Turned out to be the missing cache container, so signed log and replaced in the obvious cairn. TFTC
Tried several possible locations but no luck. Hopefully i just missed it. Thanks any way.
When we retired, our first trip was to Alaska. We stopped at the Worthington Glacier and I climbed up the big rock structure that was dividing the glacier ice flow in the middle. When I reached the big flat surface on top I turned to see dozens of stacks of rocks which had not been visible from below. I had been expecting to have a beautiful view of the valley below and to experience the illusion of being the first to have made the climb. As a result, I HATE ROCK STACKS! I have pushed them over ever since then. My granddaughter delights in making them and fussing when I push them over. I make an exception when there is a special reason, such as an Indian or other native ceremony, or if it is a memorial for someone. As we were approaching GZ, George was reading the description and began laughing. She informed me that, I would be making a rock stack and that it was REQUIRED!
Well I did quickly find the Smiley. And I did make a rock stack as you can see with the picture. She on the other hand took great delight in making a rock stack that I did not kick over. – Zeke & George of Hot Springs, Arkansas, USA
