My first cache in H Bay. Saw a few goats when I started. Not to bad the odd bit of thorns but they can be avoided. Thanks
Travelling back from teaching in Gisborne, homeward to Palmy. Nice little park and grab with still a wee bit of cross country hunting. Cache and log in good condition. Mihi ki a koe mo te keteroki #249
Found the quad of trees but could only get to within 2 meters of them. It is severely overgrown with big scratchy/clingy plants guarding the treasure. Need protective gear, gum boots and a machete to get any closer so I sadly have to give this one a miss.
Very overgrown, just as my muggle hubby was saying no sh!t Sherlock, cos I warned him about the blackberries, he got blackberries wrapped around his wee toes and jandals and tripped not once but thriceI keeled over with laughter and at that point he said Im over this now In fairness I wasnt willing to bush bash without full PPEThanks for the experience I had a laugh
Today we drove from Hastings to Gisborne where we are staying for a couple of days. We grabbed some caches on the way. Here we parked nearby and then had to work out how to get to GZ. Summer vegetation certainly makes these sorts of hides more challenging. So some bushwhacking and we got to GZ where a quick find was madeTFTCTim and Viv - ddm
It's my Mega weekend road trip! This is the final day, heading back home to Wellington from Gisborne. Will expand on my logs, post photos, qualifying caches for challenges, etc. When I get home. TFTC
A little tricky navigating the blackberry, especially in sandals, but I managed to squeeze through a gap.

#1809. Day 5 of our (GB Leader and I) 10 day Hawkes Bay odyssey to watch grandsons play cricket. Today was the last game for the elder grandson, at Park Island, Napier. Another win. That makes their record 4 wins and a loss. Another nice ground with lots of trees surrounding the arena. I did a couple of the WP’s of the AL here.
Then it was off to Gisborne, for the first time in decades! Didn’t have a lot of spare time to stop for caches along the way, but made time for this one, as our friends the Huhugrubs were last here. Fairly easy find with the hint - some blackberries nearby but no hindrance. Also seemed to be popular with mozzies. Replaced the plastic bag as it’s torn. Logbook is fairly muddled up, and didn’t spot Huhugrub’s signature. CITO’d some glass beer bottles while there, but there are more there.
This is now my Easternmost cache find, replacing Mohaka viaduct which I found 53 minutes ago.
Tftc Canaryz.

#12,597. A park, walk and grab on State Highway 2 in Whakaki. GZ was all quiet at the time of our visit. Needed to be very careful when navigating to the right spot. Found after a short search. The cache was in good condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.
Favorite point for the challenging terrain that is just off the state highway.

Drive past this place all the time, little bit of jungle track to get to but we got it once we doing the trees. TFTC
Picked my way through the blackberry and found the four hint trees as described. Unfortunately could not locate the cache. Too bad.
We are on our summer holiday, we usually take a few weeks and travel around the South Island, but this year we are heading around the North Island. Heading up the West coast and back down the East coast. Finding only a select few caches along the way, we are mostly targeting some challenges we have qualified for, some large size caches, some that fill gaps in our date placed grid, a few D/T combinations, some with lots of favourite points, letterboxes and anything else that grabs our fancy.
I had a fall on day two of our holiday, while out geocaching which has resulted in a fractured bone in my leg and I am in a moon boot and with crutches and I was told to keep weight off my leg. So I am only limited use when it comes to our trip now. I tend to stay in the campervan and just hand out suggestions of when and where GK should search.
GK is known for leaving the red DNA at cache sites, he has very little sense of self preservation when it comes to moving in and around prickly plants, so I felt sure he would have sprung a leak or two by the time he returned from this one. To my amazement he didn't lose any blood while finding this one, no new scratches or anything.
Thanks for placing this cache and thank you for the smiley.

Silly me not reading the full brief..oops blackberry and prickles..still a unique bay and cache.any thanks
We are heading down the line with Cape Palliser our main destination. We pulled over here and I headed in cursing all the way with every type of prickles assailing me. Cache found ok in good condition. Then the outward journey. Now I know why there is a T4 here!! Thanks for the cache Canaryz
The plan was to travel from Wellington up to Lake Waikaremoana for the long weekend, and then do the Great Walk (half way) around the lake. Sadly only half of that plan came true, but along the way I grabbed a few select caches and this was one of them.
Headed just a bit past my turnoff to grab this one, no problems here., TFTC.

It was difficult to find a way in to GZ as all was overgrown, as others have mentioned, but Mrs nzk persisted, managed to avoid the blackberry and eventually locate the cache, which was in good condition. Then she found a much easier and more direct route back out (typical). Disappointingly there was a much better view of the railway line than the lagoon. TFTC Canaryz.
Place it a overgrown. However the cache is still in place and good condition. TFTH
30 May 2020 15:21. A brief stop whilst travelling up to Gizzy with GSEL enabled me to locate snd sign this one off. TFTC
A nice quick find as we headed to Gisborne. Cache is in good condition and nicely concealed. Thanks Canaryz.
This cache seems to be getting a flurry of activity because of the Gisborne and Napier TMGT caches. The Geo-Trail created by Gorbygorbachov and his buddies a couple of months ago is still well established and makes it easier to get to GZ.
No brambles here today, just the stench of rotting meat or fish. We soon reached GZ and there was the cache. Signed and returned. TFTC
A quick grab on the side of the road, could be fun here once the black berry grows. And the trains start running again! Cheers
Off in my car and I happen to have rustynz and Rebel98 with me for this 2 day weekend. We plan to get Geotour caches in Whakatane, Gisborne, Tolaga Bay and Napier. A trip that would take 1401km returning through Taupo back to Auckland.
Another cache selected by me or rusty or both. Prior to this adventure I had loaded up several caches to possibly do between Gisborne and Napier, rusty had done the same and little did we know until today we almost had identical caches we randomly had selected. How cool is that!
Anyway when I briefly read the cache page, one word stuck in my mind.... blackberry...oh dear, I doesn't like blackberry I doesn't. But when rusty was more determined to get this cache than I was, I followed her path, I commented: "Oh look Sharon, I have found a geotrail" it was a trail she happened to be making...
It took quite some enthusiastic and athletic ability on my part to reach for the cache and me and rusty used sticks together to get it free, got it in the end and put it back in an easier place for the next finder.

A group of Westies (rustynz, rebel98 & gorby) on a East Cape caching adventure, we came the scenic route
We were tossing up if the approach was going to be too hard, when I picked my way, gorby making comments about this geotrail that was appearing before his very eyes!
Only a little blackberry to navigate thru, and it was gorby who reached and grabbed the cache.
Hopefully we left it in an easier place for the next finder. Thanks for the hide Canaryz

Prickly bushes not too much of a problem today, quick find. Replaced plastic bag TFTC
On a road trip for weekend dropped kids of for a hike at Lake Waikaremoana and I carried on across to the coast following the caches.
Off on a 5 day mission from Northland to the East Coast with the main target being the last two CANZ caches that I had not yet found. The opportunity to grab some $25 airfares to Napier was just too good to miss, even though it was winter and the days might be short and the weather might be dodgy.
Day one though was a real mission, with early morning fog for the drive to Auckland, untold time navigating the long Akl parking lots, delayed flights before we took off and then again in the air before we could land causing a missed connection for the rental cache mobile pick up. To top it off, the weather was cold and wet, but I still managed four caches in the dark.
Final day today dawned nice with a cloudless sky but still a chilly wind. Heading back from our accommodation in Wainui Beach to Napier to drop off the rental cache mobile, I thought we had to call in to this one, with it's interesting D/T rating. Managed to find a route through the blackberry and sticks and the cache was soon found at GZ thanks to the good hint. TFTC

#6517. I have been away on a short holiday with my two girls to the east coast to enjoy the sun, heat and surf. After staying a couple of nights in Tolaga Bay, we are making our way south today. While I had a fairly big geocaching wish list the girls made it clear the stops had to be short and infrequent (as per my pre-trip contract!). Pulled up in the off road parking area near the cache and looked around at the dense grove of trees and vines. But soon spied a route through and it opened up once under the trees. Not as bad as the T4 indicated. The cache was quickly found once I read the hint. Signed the log and replaced where found. Thanks Canaryz for the cache.
Easy find. Great hint. I good condition but pencil is a bit buggered. The next person might want their own pen or a pencil sharpener. TFTC.
Another fun cache along the way, soon found a way to GZ that required little blood loss and the cache was soon located. TFTC
short stop heading for wairoa. bit overgrown to get cache but made it in sandals. tftc
10.40: On the way from Māhanga to Napier. Quite difficult access to this cache, but the prominent T-rating made it very interesting, but overrated we believe. Lots of thorny bushes on the way to the cache, but precise location. So it turned into a quick find in the very end. The rotting carcass mentioned somewhere below is/was still there[xx(].
Weather: overcast, rain, 14°C;
Wheelchair: no, dense vegetation, uneven ground, no sight to cache;
State: all good.
Thank you!

Today we made a trip from Gisborne to Mahia, again on the route of the Pacific Coast Highway, thereby visiting many new sightseeing locations and looking for caches, too. On this trip we searched, found and logged a lot of caches. The weather was very good all day long, a bit colder in the morning but it got warmer in the afternoon. Funny clouds were our compagnions especially in the afternoon.
Almost no muggels observed us as they had other things to do than observing harmless geocachers.
Thanks to Canaryz for showing us this location and for the fun we had at Whakaki Lagoon (Nth Hawkes Bay). The search we had here today didn't take too much time.
Greetings from Germany and hope to see you soon in the forest.

Day 4 - Monday - Wellington to Gisborne. The Mega Event is over but we have 10 days to go exploring with. So lets hit the road.
Had to stop here but went too far past so had to walk back. Finally snagged and tagged this one. Cheers
The Seagnoid, Zara and I are on another epic caching adventure for the next two weeks, starting with the Wellington Mega, then East Cape, Taraunga, Waihi, Rotorua and back to Wellington. Its been an awesome journey, over 2500 klms later, visiting many amazing places. Thanks to all COs

One week off during school holiday time, combined with some cheap flights made a great adventure in the HB and Gisborne area, popping into BoP a couple of times also. I had great fun and I am grateful to all CO's who placed the caches for others' entertainment!! Cool spot! TFTC!!
Caching with Sidewaze as we make our way around East Cape to Tauranga and then back to the South Island via Palmerston North and ferry across Cook Strait. TFTC
Thought the GPS was pointing some distance away. We were rather relieved when we realised no excessively difficult terrain was involved in searching for the cache. Thanks for the hide.
A quick park and grab right next to a train line. Took the coloured stone and left an army man. A beautiful and easy drive along the coast to Gisborne. Thank you Canaryz for the cache.
A nice little find. The stench from a rotting carcass detracted a little from the beauty of the lagoon though. Loving this countryside. TFTC!
Quick park and grab on the way to Wairoa. Bypassed the prickly sentries and found the cache. TFTC
Nice excuse to have a rest from driving this road. Nice quick find, now off to Gisborne for the weekend.

A quick find after a minor problem with the GPS today. The container and log are both in good condition. SL. Thanks to Canaryz for the cache.
Heading from Havelock North to Gisborne today. Stopped to find this along the way. No problems with the undergrowth and a quick find, thanks. SL. TFTC.
I thought I may have to change my footwear for this one but singing "Tip Toe Through the Tulips" I managed to get to the cache and back without any encounters of the thorny kind. TFTC
Found with Mum as 'Jess & Caro'. She is now Carø and I now have my own geocaching profile so we are sorting my logs for caches we found together. TFTC!
Holidaying for a couple of weeks in NZ to do a bit of sight seeing and catch up with family. We have been from Auckland to Tauranga to Hicks Bay, the East Cape and Tolaga Bay and are now heading to Napier! This was a quick stop on a busy road where I dashed in and got a few blackberry scratches but nothing too significant. Thanks for the cache, Canaryz
Bit late in logging but a treasure of a find in Whakakī. Beautiful scenery was blown to bits by the stench of a rotting cow carcass. But a find nonetheless.
Collecting a few caches while travelling from Gisborne to Palmerston North. Stopped by here for a rest. Nearly passed up the cache after noting the T4 rating however I'm glad I continued as access was fairly easy and straight forward. It did take me a while afterwards to remove all the biddy bids from my socks though. Couldn't see a lagoon from here today but enjoyed the little walk.
Thanks to the CO for bringing me out on another adventure. Everyone is different and intersting. The time and effort you put in to setting and maintaining caches is appreciated.

This cache was another toad side victim of mine today, as i found, signed and put it back where i found it. Came to this place on my way to Gisborne on my New Zealand vacation. Finding wasn't that hard and i have to say:

After a lovely quiet night camped in the motorpark,
I was awakened by the sun shining in me eyes at the ridiculous hour of 6:15 am [:o]
So I rolled out of bed and had a good breakfast
With a glorious day forecast,
I was soon on the long and winding road again,
headed for Gisborne
The highway was very quiet on the drive to get to Whakaki Lagoon [^]
But I feared the mad rush couldn't be far away !!
It took a goodly 15 minutes to figure out what I was meant to do here
Lots and lots of long grass !!
I found evidence of a previous trampling and followed a sort of trail in towards some trees
It's that damn sticky grass again [:o]
And mingled into the mix the occasional strand of blackberry ready to rip you to pieces
I made it to a spot that fit the clue perfectly
So where's the cache ??
I poked and got poked for many minutes.
The cache had to be here somewhere,
it could not have been muggled in the last week !!
And why is that old boot here ?? [:o]
I kept digging,
as the plants wrapped their tendrils around me and tried to pull me down into the ground and a certain death [:o]
Voila a cache !!
I made good me escape after signing the logbook,
of course

Squirrel Nutcase and myself are on a road trip to the Gisborne area chasing caches with a higher D rating for our licence challenge. We visited area 3 months ago and hopefully we will have better success this time and collect anything else on the way. Day 1 was to get there first and day 2 back to Rotorua via Wairoa Napier way.
1.45pm - Hadn't saved this cache off line. Had no signal but a bit of backing back until signal found. Good hint and quickly spotted likely area to look. SLTFTC

With Gap (of Fap and Gap)... After five months of grief, it's time for another serious attack on our current caching license. We're heading east to target seven high difficulty caches, and anything else that catches our attention...
A lot of the landscapes we passed were very reminiscent of those we found while travelling south through Marlborough and Northern Canterbury... In my mind, I was expecting to see some salt piles here... Our iPhone connections were patchy here, and we hadn't saved the two caches to an offline file. Luckily, Gap must have found a pocket, and we had enough signal to do the job. Once this was sorted, we had no trouble navigating to the hide... TFTC.

The area could do with a bit of a CITO. Cache found without any problems, I just had to watch where I put my feet to get to it. TFTC
I moved foward to Wairoa but had to stop here because I could not resist. Sadly I didn't saw very much of the lagoon because this seems to be an interesting place (not only for duck shooting). The blackberrys were no problem. They are very, very common in Germany and you often has to fight them while caching.
Thanks a lot for the cache.

Find #2570. Found during a 1000+km return one day drive from Wellington on a very successful space mission. One of only three finds on this trip. Was hoping for a nice view of the estuary but not to be. SL TFTC.
After a couple of enjoyable, though warm days in Gisborne, we are heading south to Napier and have a list of caches to find en route.
After a detour to the Mahia Peninsula, we are back on SH2 again. Didn't take long to find this cache at yet another lagoon along the route. TFTC.
