Weekend:We set off on a great adventure with the whole family: one night in Mt. Arthur hut and one night in the Lower Gridiron Rock Shelter. So cool to be able to do these hikes with all the kids and enjoy the outdoors together. Very low visibility on Saturday but great weather on Sunday, we really enjoyed being out here in the mountains!Cache:Always nice to see the world through other eyes. Actually very nice looking trees, thanks for pointing our attention to them and for the nice hide, tftc!
Really cool area to be searching for a cache!!. Soon had the cache in hand TTFTC
What a beautiful forest, we went for a loop, it was a big cloudy. Both the container and logbook were in good condition, we left a TB.
Found as we headed up to Mt Arthur hut and the start of 4 days tramping. Found with Elihyn. Cache a wee bit damp but still ok for logging. TFTC
Nice Walk to Arthur's hut and a quick found.
TFTC and greetings from Germany.

SJT_NZ and I are heading off for an overnight tramp on the Tableland Circuit, a quick find and all in very good condition. Thanks funman0561 for placing the cache.
Completed with Tregearp whilst on a two day tramp over Mt Arthur and on to over night at Salisbury Lodge. A great day to be in the bush - a small amount of scattered cloud and a gentle Southerly that kept temperatures in the high teens - but perfect when carrying a pack.
Quickly found with all in good order. Thanks funman0561 for the cache.

Out for my 3 weekly Wednesday walk in Kahurangi National Park. Today's trip was into Clouston's Mine, Gordon's Pyramid and out via the Mt Arthur track. Quite windy today but clear weather.
This was the last for today and a welcome spot to drop the pack after the trip from Gordon's. A easy find, tucked away and covered from the elements. Cache in pristine condition so all good here.

Great idea to stay cache dry.
Found during a beautiful one day trip to Mount Arthur Summit and Lodestone.

My sister is in town, so we decided to go for a walk. This is one of her favourite routes from childhood. Amazing how popular this walk is, considering how narly the access road is. Good cool tramping weather, but the top was clouded in, was very cold, and there was ice shards in the wind. And naturally, when we turned back, the sun came out. Still cloudy up top though. Best part was a flock of nine kea who came over to check us out!
I thought I had invented the term Dr Suess trees, as a nickname for drocophyllum, so I was rather surprised to hear Karen refer to them the same way, and then for the CO here to name a cache after it. I guess the nickname is so obvious that everyone comes up with it.
Lots of photos tomorrow.

Very cool trees, has a Mexican touch.
We are in the way back to Flora carpark after staying two days at huts.
We had a wonderful time and enjoyed finding some caches along the way.
This one was well maintained and dry thanks to double container - much better than a bag

Found on Saturday. Love this Dr Suiss forest, beautiful. And great area for bird-watching.
Nine days to do some caching for the price of four leave days - who could complain about that! I found a quirky place to stay near Motueka, ad decided to base myself there to cache in the wider area. I had a few on my hit list, and ended up finding a great variety of different caches on the trip.
Day five - I was going to do a nice walk, and a few caches on the way. Great day for it, not too hot but dry. After a rather steep ascent leaving me surprised I even made it, I went for a nice little walk, and what a great spot here! TFTC!!

TFTC! Slept in Mt. Arthurs Hut for a night and went up to the summit...what an awesome environment to spend time in!
After we saw a morepork clso we found the cache easily!

Glad to see the cache is still in good order! Brought a 500 m screwtop on holiday with us to replace the temporary outer container - so this cache will be all okay for the forseeable future.
We walked up mount Arthur today with cousins & aunts visiting from the U.K. nice find under one of the many truffula trees here. Find #372
Just before the table we caught up to a mature chap who was heading down hill with the help of his walking stick. His daughter was sitting at the table serving up a cup of tea and a sandwich. Hmm that is a bit unfortunate we thought - then we remembered the other cache that is nearby so we went and found that one, we sat and had a bite to eat then we headed back up to the top of the hill and headed into the bush to see if we could find this one. My phone was all over the place and there were so many interesting shaped trees we thought the cache could be anywhere. The people at the table moved off so we could search where we thought we needed to be and GK soon had the cache in hand. Thank you funman0561 for the cache
**Found on an overnight round trip from Flora Car Park, with Mum and Dad, staying at Salisbury Lodge. **
GPS had me a bit off to start with but I soon spotted the remarkably unique tree... even for these things. Pile of rocks also helped . Not long to go now! TFTC (3677)

Paddle Chick and I heading up to the Mt Arthur hut for an over night stay and stopped off to get this cache. My grandchildren love Dr Seuss books it is very magical walking though here .Thanks to your 7yr old daughter and her friend for placing this cache .It deserves a favorite Tftc Funman0561
I'd never thought of this section of the track as being from Dr Seuss but now I think about it, that what it's like. My first trip up here over 10 years ago was in the middle of winter and with every branch laden with snow it was very magical. Nice easy find as we headed up to the hut. TFTC

A great place for a cache, we used to bring our children up here when they were 7 years old and they loved Dr. Seuss books,so must give it a favourite. We counted 6 Rifleman birds on our walk up here. Thanks funman0561.
Off on a three day tramp, Flora car park to Dry rock shelter (4th), over Gordons Pyramid to Arthur ridge (5th), slept under fly and then it was too windy to go up Arthur on the 6th which was a shame. Five kids (ages 7,8,10,11,& 12) and three adults. I was so impressed with my kids and how they walked (and talked and sang and slept...), I had a few worries before we left but I was the slowest!
The perfect spot for a rest. Funny, when looking for the particular Dracophyllum tree, they all start to looked deformed!

On Wed 14th the brand new Oregon 700 crashed (for the second time these holidays) and lost all caches from the Nelson PQ. So visited the Richmond Library to note down the coordinates and details for a handful of essential Nelson caches... this was one of them.
This mountain neinei bush is wonderful isn't it? [dracophyllum-traversii-mountain-neinei](http://www.terrain.net.nz/friends-of-te-henui-group/table-1/dracophyllum-traversii-mountain-neinei.html)
Have replaced the logbook-in-bag with a logsheet in a double pill bottle, inside a 200 ml container. The original logbook is unusable - I've left it underneath the container.
Had intended to look for the nearby multi final, after working out the coords at home, but unfortunately that was one of the things lost in the crash...

Hi there. We were up at the flora carpark today and saw what looked like a geocache on the windowsill of the shelter. Turned out it was this cache. We had no idea where it was meant to be and were heading back to nelson anyway, so we left it there. It is in a sports/bike drink bottle. The cache note had similar description to the last cache find, it was replaced as the container was damaged.
It is possible the DOC track maintenance people have found it, but may not be the case.
I hope you can get it put back where it is supposed to be! I love the Dr Suess trees they make me feel happy every time I go up there!

Picked up travel bug.
The cache was damaged and full of water, taken the notebook home to dry out and will return it next time we are up there.Left a temporary note paper inside a waterproof drink bottle. TFTC great spot.

Walked up Mt Arthur with geofamily. Found damaged cache and replaced it.

Got this one on my way down from Mt Arthur. Log not sign because of rain and dripping fingers. TFTC
Certainly an interesting type of forest. Searched for a while eventually found about 5m away from GZ in the open. Covered it over before leaving. TFTC
Spent a while searching around the wrong tress and then found the obvious.
Great trees, and one of the few places that you see pure stands of them.
Thanks for the cache.

Up in Nelson again, visiting my parents. My mission for the day was to collect some information at the Gridiron Shelter for a Christchurch Multi. A glorious day to be out in the bush. I cycled in - just over half an hour. After collecting the required info and finding a cache near there, I headed back. 40 mins to Flora from Gridiron. Stopped at Flora to find a cache and then another 20 minutes up to the saddle to find another cache. I then walked up here, to one of my favourite spots on the planet. A quick find. TFTC.

We were really lucky to see some yellow crowned parakeets and some of Dr. Zeus's curly and twisted trees most of them were pineapple trees ( it not really a ''pineapple plant'' but it is what they we're referred to)
A perfect day for a walk to Flora Hut, with a bit of a side trek through Dr Suess's forest to pick up this one. TFTC.
The start of a tramp up Mt Arthur and over Gordons Pyramid a bit better than the wind of yesterday. Walked right past and had to backtrack 200m
The first time I walked along this part of the track I commented that this looked like something out of the book. Seems I wasn't the only one to think this. Nice easy find where the track builders had been making the track more of a 'highway'. TFTC.
Second to last one on the return trip from the summit. A lovely day - almost windless, very high cloud but excellent views. TFTC.
A quick find as I ascended the "highway" from Flora Carpark to Mt Arthur Hut on a day walk to the summit. Lovely vegetation and an increasingly great view as I progressed. Signed log, TFTC
Great area for a cache. We enjoyed the 'deformed' trees with lichen that made the area other worldly. Have found a cache near here in the past that took quite a search and a delay with muggles. Today spotted this cache from 5m away for an immediate find. It was empty except for the log so we added a few trinkets and replaced it with the natural camo that was nearby in the spot we think it was originally placed. May have been muggled - but if it was at least the cache and log were left. A date of 30 or 31 1/2012 was written but no cacher name added. Thanks
Nice forest here. Didn't have to look for too long here, wouldn't be surprised if random people have found it.
Always love this place. The stunted vegitation and old man's beard make a great surround for a breather on the Arthur Hut walk. A moments quiet between passing groups showed the cache rolled out from under its hiding place... maybe disturbed by the friendly Weka.
I was following my GPS in, and it still had 6 m to go when I saw a rock that didn't look right. It had the cache under it. Phew! Very happy to have a short search after a big day up Mt Arthur. TFTC.
fluffed around before finally spotting it. we have grown 3 of these from seed at home, proves they can adapt to altitude drop.
Great cache location which very much reminded me of those Dr Seuss classics. Gps settled close to the cache eventually but by then I had found the obvious hiding spot, good one. TFTC.
Had a scramble around and finally found it. GPS was a bit dodgy up here. Great bunch of "trees".

The trees here definitely look like something Horton would have sat on to hatch his egg gives the whole place a prehistoric look found quite quickly signed log and Stretch0 purloined the travel bug thanks for the cache and leading us up the path up the mountain
This was an xtra cache for us today and walking up through the trees was amazing and then with some of the views that we could peak were making the trip all worthwhile. Can imagine an old worldy movie being shot in these trees . Found the cache and signed log and grabbed the TB. TFTC and bringing us to this area
Yes we found it, yes we did, we found your cache although it was hid!
We liked the forest, we liked it much, we liked the strange trees and such!

Was up here shortly after this one was placed with a school trip but for some reason the gps didnt load it so will have to settle for second.Great spot for drink and a bite before moving on.More cachers should visit the areabecause this is one of a few areas of these trees left thanks for the cache will be back this way soon.
FTF @ 0735 this morning Surprised its been left unfound for over a month as this is a pretty popular and accessible track. One of my favourite walks in the region actually. Took a while to find as my GPS seemed to be pointing at another similar tree about 7m away but when I broadened my search area I located the cache. TFTC, Biggles.
