Somewhat confused when we got to GZ as the Volcanic Activity Centre has now moved to Turangi, where we found it later in the day, and the signpost is long gone. I do know the area fairly well, having climbed both Tongariro and Ngaurahoe and I was at the Top of the Bruce yesterday. So I hope I've supplied sufficient information to the CO for this log to be acceptable. Anyway, here's a photo of the old Volcanic Activity Centre at GZ and a couple of Ruapehu and Ngaurahoe.

Found with Mum as 'Jess & Caro'. She is now Carø and I now have my own geocaching profile so we are sorting my logs for caches we found together. TFTC!

Over from Aus for a couple of weeks to catch up with family and do a bit of sight seeing. And now that we ate geocaches, naturally it all involves finding a few caches along the way! Razz
After a week with family in Napier and a night in Taupo, we have a big day of driving and sight-seeing today with a list full of caches to find as we head north to Rotorua then back down to Te Kuiti and up to Otorohanga. Our list of finds for the day including this one. Smile

I was confused initially then realised the centre has closed and been moved away. Google helped me answer some of the questions and I sent them to the CO. I will add a pic when I have proper Wi-Fi.

Thanks for the cache, TGC4 Smile

While wandering around Huka Falls area I picked up a few caches intending to do this EarthCache as well.

Like others I got to GZ where I found the Centre was closed, moving to Turangi and the sign with a lot of the answers on has been removed.

So took the required pic which is included with this post then did some online research which helped with answering a good number of the questions. That done sent off the answers to the CO.

Thanks for the EarthCache.

Travelling around New Zealand in Janene our Jucy van. We stayed in Matamata last night as Hobitton was firmly on our must see list.

As everyone else had said this place is closed and relocating. Some of the answers can’t be found because of this. TFTC

According to the sign on the door, the information center will move in near future

Roadtripping for the day with KirsTim and yorkshirekiwi83, grabbing a few caches on our way down south. Swung by here to grab an earthcache for International Earthcache Day, but it looks like all the information we needed is now missing, as the centre is preparing for relocation. Gathered the necessary information we needed regardless and headed on our way. Answers submitted to CO. Thanks for the EarthCache, would love to see this place when it's back up and running!

Road trip to Taupo with 1/2 of Vamber and all of Yorkshirekiwi83, we were hoping to get all the required information for our earth cache on earth cache day. Had to google the answers as the sign has gone and the building closed down in preparation to be relocated.

Logging as having visited during an amazing 2 months tour around the world mainly in New Zealand, caching all the way with as many earthcaches we could manage! This earthcache was very different from the usual Ines we get at home in England, so was therefore a must-do! Very interesting information centre which helped enormously our understanding of the sheer power deep down inside our world . Answers sent to CO but I have only just had it brought to my attention that I haven't claimed my smiley ! Many thanks
Favourite point - as above, an excellent and informative earth cache, one which should not be missed!

Travelling around the world with dartmoordeliverer helping her celebrate taking early retirement, even though she plans to return to work part-time!

Editing to correct date to 1.5.17 date of our visit, but logging rather belatedly on 5.10.17!
Editing log again as realised I hadn't uploaded a photo - unfortunately cannot upload photo of me outside information centre as that is on my pc which is currently undergoing a makeover, so I have uploaded a photo of one of the many interesting information boards inside that information centre.

We came in New Zealand for the World Master Games, and made a round trip visiting the country. To-day Huka Falls, and a visit to the volcanic activity center. A very nice earthcache, thanks for it; with a point of favourite

We visited this EC. At first we did not want to enter these volcano centers. But then we did. It was very nice and the entrance price was not too high. Inside you can even feel an earthquake. Surprised

Day 11 of our North Is trip, and today we are travelling from Takapuna to Taupo. As we didn't leave Auckland until after 1pm, we limited our caching en route.
I thought there should be some earth caches to do in the Taupo area and StreetWalker noticed that this was pretty close to SH1 so we stopped to do it. As we have experienced many earthquakes in Christchurch, the topic was quite topical.
Unfortunately the Activity centre had already closed for the day, so we had to do our research online. Just hope an event like the Taupo eruption doesn't occur any time in the near future. TFTC.

Together with arbor95 I am on a holiday tour in New Zealand. Cool

We are two Germans, old friends since a long time. Together we visited a lot of other countries in the past, even before we started geocaching. [^]

For our trip we usually looking for some extraordinary caches. Wink

Therefore we had mostly a lot of fun. Big Grin

Today we are on the way from Taupo to Tauranga and the main targets have been earthcache.

We worked out the answers and arbor95 has already sendt it to the owner.

Thank You very much for this earthcache and for the challenge.

Greetings from tripleclaus to TGC4. Smile

Kind of stumbled across this earth cache by accident as was just driving around trying to figure out where everything was. Good to see my hometown mountain on the sign

31-Dec-16
In taupo for the holiday season, this was very quiet at ground zero today so it did not take too long to gather all of the info that was required to complete this cache, everyday is a school day.

This will be one of the last caches for the end of 2016 for us.

Thanks for the placement and the smiley and another history or earth lesson TFTEC

27-Dec-16
This was an EarthCache day as out of geocaches that I found together with Lady Murazor most were EarthCaches, however a few traditional ones also happened. After visiting and walking around all the scenic areas I feel a bit (or maybe more) tired, but I am really happy that I managed to go to the antipodes to see that all.

Wow! The last Earthquake in NZ was 14 minutes ago just near the place where I am now logging this cache... But its magnitude was 2.5 only.

Thank you for this cache and greetings from Kraków, Poland.

27-Dec-16
We visited this interesting area with Murazor during our down under adventure trip. This place was on our route as this EC seemed to proof this zone should be very unique. We are not dissappointed. The entire area with plenty of attractions added to this day experience a lot of fun and knowledge. Thank you for guiding us with this Earthcache. TFTEC! Greetings from Krakow, Poland!

But the end of the day was not as nice as the entire day. The last Earthquake in NZ was 14 minutes ago just near the place where I was logging this cache. Fortunately its magnitude was 2.5 only. Uff

Tego trzęsienia nawet nie poczułam, ale teraz po przeczytaniu, że właśnie przeszło tuż obok sama się trzęsę, ciekawe z jaką magnitudą Big Grin

There's an awful lot tk learn about vulcanos and seismic activities and any piece is interesting. Thanks for guiding me to the centre to increase the knowledge. I really can recommend the visit, it's not too overwhelming, but still interesting.

On our trip through the wonderful New Zealand, we also visited this beautiful Earthcache
Thank you for showing us this interesting place.
Unfortunately, the Volcanic Activity Center was closed just the day we were there. But anyhow, it was a very interesting place.

After visiting the Huka Prawn Farm this afternoon, it was time to go find a few caches. This earthcache was nearby so off we went to go and complete the tasks. Found with bkj97 and Edvern while in the area for the Mega. Liked this one, as did bkj97 who just happened to be a Geography teacher in a previous life. Added favourite from both of us. T4TC

24-Oct-16
Visited this one with bkj97 and Little Blue Hen. I too used to be a geography teacher and the volcanoes of the central North Island were a teaching topic so I found this very interesting. I would like to come back to the information centre when I have more time - too busy with MEGA activities this weekend! Thanks for setting up this worthwhile earthcache TGC4.

Completed with little blue hen and Edvern.
Long chat with the centre manager who liked the geocaching idea. Will log as found when email sent.

23-Oct-16
Have emailed the CO the answers.

I left home at 5.30am this morning on an emergency minion dash as sunju had forgotten him to take to the mega. Arrived in turangi after a lovely drive through the desert road in time for the minion's photo call at the photo event this morning. Then said goodbye to the minion tb as sunju left him on the trackable table at the event. Checked in at the mega and am now attempting to collect 9 different caches in one day. This is type number 8.

Thanks for the lesson on the forces of earth. Tftc.

22-Oct-16
My geocaching buddy and I were down from the far north on our way to the Turangi Mega. We decided to do the earthcaches along the way because they gave us a great snapshot of the local area. I studied geography back when I was in 7th form but that was a while ago. We didn't have time to go into the nearby centre today but hopefully one day we will. TFTC Smile

Answers have been sent to CO. Caching with rustynz and ivss_xx after a soak in a nearby hot pool. Rain has set in, so it time to get going to the MEGA in Turangi. Thanks for the cache.

It was starting to rain when we arrived at GZ, but being after 6 pm, no one was around to ask what we might be up too! gathered the required information with rebel98 and ivss_xx. Answers have been sent to CO, with rebel98 log, hope this meets your requirements. Sadly one of the pictures I took of the volcano, shows the sign, so decided not to include with this log, but can send to CO directly. Thanks for for providing the link to earthquake activity in NZ Big Grin

Didn't even need to step out of the car to do this EC. But we fulfilled all the requirements so we stand **acquitted** of all the charges Very Happy
Learnt a bit about the volcano types while searching for the answers for the caches, I found [GNS site](http://www.gns.cri.nz/Home/Learning/Science-Topics/Volcanoes/Types-of-Volcanoes-Eruptions) an interesting read. The Geonet earthquake site was a nice discovery as well. There was a 3.4 two days ago north-east of Waipukurau. Quite deep though. And a 5.8 one in the ocean a week ago.
I had only looked at http://www.christchurchquakemap.co.nz/ before.

Thanks for the cache!

#1708. I was heading south from Rotorua on my way to Wellington with a car load of stuff from my parents house. Stopped off in Taupo to do a few caches and this was one of them. With the long trip ahead I didn't have time to visit the activity centre today but took information from the sign and did a bit of research about volcanos and earthquakes when I got home. Info sent by message board to the CO today. Thanks for setting up the earthcache. An hour or so later I saw lots of steam pouring out of the active vents on Tongariro as I drove south. Cheers GSEL

fefe.adrien and I have visited the Huka Fall, then we went to the volcano center.
There are so many volcanoes in New Zealand but some names are quite hard to prononce^^.

English :
Ninalila and I visited the Huka Falls, and now it is time to learn more about the volcanoes around us.
It so amazing to see how many volcanoes we can find, and learn so much about how they work.
It was a good way to do more research about their history.

Thank a lot for this eartcache and all the things we've learned Smile

Off on a big mission to find all the caches from Taupo to Turangi with 11hpg11, kiwis69 and HKCB.

A bit of a last minute throw together caching mission today for a clean out run through Taupo/Turangi area with 11HPG11, Kiwis69, Kyb3r and myself. We thought we'd forgo our usual meticulous planning and just wing it for a change, though I couldn't help myself and I spent a few minutes working out a basic plan last night. With a 4am start this morning, we had a long but pretty successfull day, with only a handful of DNF's, though I think all but one GPS's had issues today (mine being pretty much useless) and achieving most of what we roughly set out to do and with the bonus of getting home before dark (just). We signed the logs with 11HK693R, a combination of our user names. A big thanks to all the CO's for placing all the hides.

Still being early we pretty much had the place to ourselves so we didn't look to strange gathering the needed info. Answers have been sent to CO, thanks for a informative and enjoyable earthcache.

Made this cache on our 4 weeks honeymoon through New Zealand. So many great places to see in this beautiful country.
On the 17th day of travelling with our campervan we drove from Whakapapa to the Waikite Valley Thermal Pools. On the way we stopped in Taupo to visit Huka Falls and the craters of the moon and the Volcanic Activity Centre. We also did some geocaching. Great eartchcache.

This cache is logged after we came back home (Montagnac, France) after a FANTASTIC journey in Australia, New Zealand and short transit in China.
Those two countries are very different but absolutely FANTASTIC.
We visited a lot of cities and places and the game helped us to discover a little bit more than "normal tourists".

Today (Christmas day), we began by going to the beach on the Lake TAUPO... my friends here in France were jalous Smile.
Then we drove from Taupo to Rotorua, but with the caches and the walks, it took us the whole day !!!

We didn't go into the Centre but didn't need to to find the answers. A lot of interesting info to be learned with this earthcache but by far the best was Question 4 with it's up to date reports. We'll check this site in future just out of interest. TF a great EC TGC4.

Time for another caching getaway - my partners in crime all pulled out which was sad but allowed me to selfishly focus on the caches I needed for the GLCS.

This was the fifth Earthcahe of 5 or 6 I planned to get today. The Activity Centre looks like a neat little exhibition but for nearly $20 the lack of advertising meant it was hard to gage value. I spoke with the lady at the counter who gave me a little information but another time I think - geocaching is the priority for today. This EC did require a bit of research at home and was probably the most difficult of the EC's I've logged to date. Answers sent via the message center, cheers for bringing me here. I've driven past a hundred times but never had a decent geez till today.

Earlier this year a group of Tauranga based cachers started a Geocaching Bay of Plenty Facebook page. 68 cachers currently make up this closed group and have already organised various events thanks to the connectivity facebook provides. Please check us out if you haven't already.

We had fun with caching few weeks here in New Zealand. Lots of geocaches and many sort of them too. We saw awesome places, weather was pretty good all the time and people were friendly and polite. Caches were pretty similar like in our home country. Of course there were some exeptions. Nice and really scenary country!

On a geoholiday road tripping to Christchurch MEGA and around beautiful New Zealand. Our four people group (temyllyl, laalaa, kapeka and myself) from Finland used group tag FIN to log the caches.

Today we drove around the Lake Taupo. Of course some caching on the way. We had lots of fun and saw many nice places and caches. Thanks for the cache!

Welcome to MEGA Finland in 5-7 august 2016!

15th day on our geo-roadtrip in New Zealand, and caching our way towards north. Logged using our group nickname FIN with janahola, laalaa and kapeka. After having a blast in South Island and in Christchurch Mega event, we had to start heading back home. Fortunately we still had few days left to spend in NZ while driving to Auckland. Didn't realize there were so many volcanoes in NZ. And back home we have none Very Happy

HockeyHiker19 and I were on Day 19 of our Geocaching honeymoon in New Zealand. We traveled from Taupo to Auckland on this day picking up caches along the way.
We were trying to find Huka Falls but turned off too soon. No matter, there was an earthcache here! We read the description, discussed answers, and took a photo. Fun place to visit.

Greetings from West Sacramento, California! Papa EGTH and I are on the last full day of our nearly 3-week long caching honeymoon in New Zealand and today's route took us from Taupo to Auckland.

We had intended to visit Huka Falls, but we turned toward the Huka Falls Jetboat facility accidentally and stumbled upon the prawn park in doing so. LOL! We turned around and noticed that this earthcache was at the spot where we should have turned right instead of left, so we stopped for a little bit to get the answers. I found more answers online and have sent them in to the CO. Attached is a photo of me at the volcano as well as a snip showing California and Nevada's recent earthquakes. We have several volcanoes in California with dormant Mammoth Mountain in the Sierra Nevada Mountains being the closest one to Sacramento. Thanks for this earthcache!

During our trip around New Zealand, we hoped to find a bunch of caches along our route.

On our way to the Huka Falls we took an early turn and stopped at the centre shortly.

Many thanks to TGC4 for this cache!

Actually came back to this one twice as we didn't have time to go into the centre the first time around, so couldn't finish it.
However, glad we went back as it was so interesting, though we both had a very emotional reaction to the Chch earthquake video, even after all this time as our daughter had been caught up in it, though unharmed, luckily. She was at a hotel conference and the Christchurch people were wonderful to her, making sure she was safe and OK. Email sent to TGC4. TFTC

An interesting Earthcache . I had no idea this centre was here, despite visiting Taupo numerous times over the years. Next time I will have to drag my son along. I'm sure he will enjoy it much more than my dog did.
(Photo to come.)

On a mission heading to Auckland for work. I had a plan... Fill my month placed for the Jasmer challenge, collect some CANZ caches, and if possible some of the Four Corners challenge. My first leg I covered 710 kms and spent night in Turangi just before the Desert Road was closed! My second leg was inly 500km and arrived safely in Auckland.
I was heading to Rotorua and this was on the way I pulled in to make my observations asnd photos. This looks like a great place to bring the kids.

Thanks for the cache.

Hadn't realized that the Volcanic area stretched so far. Good education on NZ volcanoes. Picture uploaded and email sent.
