Having checked in at the hotel where I am staying for three days, I took a quick round of the neighbourhood to find a few caches. This was the first one.Parked on the top road and walked down to GZ where the cache was soon found. It is a pity with all the graffiti destroying the historical structure.
How interesting!! Ive been adventuring around this sort of thing on the Miramar peninsula but thanks for bringing me here!
Parked just a bit by the entrance.Using the geocaching apps map in trail view was very tight when entering this track and almost useless. But since there really aren't any major forks, it was easier to use my eyes, lol.At the forts, I wasn't getting any expected feelings of history or wartime because the grafitti was just too clourful. Instead, the colors and arrangements made me feel like I just entered a level of a retro Playstation video game. Like Tomb Raider or Soul Reaver. Which was great.Anyway, after a bit of mazing around, I reached 1m +/-1 and spotted the cache despite a solid camouflage. Some blackberry vines are growing close to GZ, so some long sleeves will be helpful. The cache was in great condition. The log is fine, but it did feel a little damp.Cheers.Sleepy was here!
Always wanted to visit the place and today had a bit left to have a look around. Interesting little place and good little hide. I had to circle around a bit before i found it , TFTC. Sherlock Hood.
Great view and an enjoyable walk through the bush. Managed the muddy, slippery bits.
Such an interesting place to visit. I’ve never been here before let alone along the road where I parked.
Kia ora rawa atu for the cache TharnTheHalkan.

Really hoped there was a cache here when we passed it going to another one... and yay! Reason to explore. Interesting spot and nice container. Container was full of water but log is safe in its bag. Giving it a FP cos although it's noisy, it's a good adventure with interesting things to snoop at... near and far! TFTC
A good day to have a wander around the neighbourhood - have visited Fort Buckley once before pre GC - thanks for the fun cache!
I've started making my way around the Wadestown area to collect geocaches.
Just myself out today and it was a pleasant and quiet afternoon to go for a wander around this area.
Very quiet here today , took the opportunity to have a good look around at the remains. Could do with a bit of gardening but I guess council gmhavw better ways to spend their time at the moment.

Geocaching adventure with Lill Tucker and MonkeyTee - find 6. Fascinating place! TFTC
Kids loved this adventure and had many questions about ‘why, why, why….’!!! TFTC
I am down in Wellington to attend a conference over the next couple of days. But, today is free for a long walk around Wellington; I started at just before 8:30am and finished shortly after 5:30pm. I wasn't sure I would be able to access this one from my route, but, I need not have worried. I made my way down the track and had a wander through the derelict fortifications before turning my attention to the the actual cache. Soon located once in the correct spot. Cheers to Huntleigh for the cache placement and sharing this little bit of history. Thanks also to TharnTheHalkan for looking after it now.
Thanks for replacing!
This was our first cache of the day!
Staying down here with son and grandsons and we had a picnic lunch of yummy bakery treats while looking down at the stunning views.
Beautiful day today!
Master 11 soon located the correct tree and cache.
Cheers....

Odd little concrete playground and a disappointing number of spray paint cans.

Easter find! I almost gave up, but followed the clue and got there eventually. Thanks!
How interesting. These are so the types of spots that really make geocaching fun and interesting. Wandered along here after work keen to keep my daily streak going. Delivered interest, a walk and a explore for a good find. TFTC.
Knowing where I needed to be, I walked straight to this one at GZ. Thanks for replacing missing cache, TharntheHalken. All good, tftc!
Wandered down here this afternoon with bkj97 and granddaughter after school pick-up. Lots of exploring and good rummage around what we assumed was the hint object which our gps confirmed as 2 to 3 m. With no luck we widened the search again with no success. Will keep an eye out for future visits. Great history.picked up a brochure at the park entrance.
Needed a cache today to deal to a dot day. This was it. Detoured up this way on my way home from work. I was in this vicinity just yesterday locating a nearby cache and left this one for today! After taking the track downhill, the biggest challenge then was making it “cross-country” to GZ. Not sure if I took the quickest route, it certainly wasn’t ideal vegetation to traverse in my suit trousers and good shoes! Once at GZ the cache was a quick find. #2876. TFTC.
The trick is to find the right tree! Didn't realise this tucked away spot even existed and its on my side of town! What a view. My nephew enjoyed investigating the area while i went looking for GC.

#980. Wow, what a great place for a cache. Today marks the start of my push to knock of the last 17 dot days for this year (with 2 more to do in 2020) so I thought I would target a cache which took me to somewhere I had never been (albeit 150m from Spotlight!). Nice sunny day to walk down the track to the surprisingly secluded Fort Buckley, and a relatively easy find. Another dot day done. Two more this week. Where to next?
Tftc Huntleigh and maintaining it TharnTheHalkan.

Just arrived in Wellington for a meeting but thats in a couple of hours so time for a walk with my trusty navigator Nigel along for the fun.
Had visited here long ago when the track was a scramble and a large cache. So got here and Nigel had me going around a bit before finally zeroing in for a quick find. Cheers. Love this place. Thanks for the cache page history. Fav from me.

Great spot to explore. Had only been here once before on a night rogaine so nice to be here in daylight. Easy to see hint tree but getting to it took a little longer. Nice container. Contents dry. TFTC
Back in Wellington and had to try and grab this one after failing previously. Thanks CO for keeping it going and can report cache is in good condition.
Wir waren zu früh für die Fähre da, also die Zeit noch genutzt für das Französiche Cafe und einen Cache genutzt.

great spot, great views, fun place to explore, lived in Wellington a long time but never knew this was here, TFTC
Glad to get it this time after it was missing a couple of years ago It was very exposed in that spot so gave it some extra cover TFTC
Searched the same spot several times before finally locating. Sorry for the late log, due to technical difficulties. All good here, TFTC.
A quick caching mission between conference and dinner! Cool place to explore!! And again, I managed to make it more difficult for myself than need be... TFTC!!
Ms Jacksonz went on a walk around Wadestown with some friends.
Thank you for the cache, it's nice to read about the history of the fort and was fun clambering around the remains. The overgrowness of it made it very thematic.
Took us a while to find it even once we had the right tree but we got there eventually.

Really cool location for a cache, took us a bit to find since it was pretty well hidden. Nice find
I found this one some time in 2011ish. It was a memorable cache. I was surprised when I was looking over the wellington map to see that it didn't have a smiley. I assumed that the cache had been archived and republished and put it on my to do list next time I was lurking about the area. Yesterday I went and found the cache and it wasn't until I went to log it that I realised that this was still the original cache. It does make me wonder how many hundred caches I have found but not logged online.
Interesting history and some great views from here. Took a trackable that we have since discovered was last placed elsewhere.
I drove up Barnard Street to see if was even possible to park on such a narrow street or whether I'd have a find a different way to this cache. Turned out not be a problem so I headed down to the gun emplacement taking in the stunning views along the way. Once I figured out how to get to GZ from there the cache was a quick find. This is the first time I found a container of this type although I've used this type on quite a few of my own caches. Makes for a nice find. TFTC.
Find #300, so we wanted to make it a special one. This great location fit the bill perfectly. Fascinating history and stunning views. The kids and I spent a bit of time exploring the area and marveling at how quickly places such as this fall out of everyday consciousness. Thanks for bringing us here!
Thanks very much TharntheHalkan for taking over responsibility for this excellent cache.
After my DNF here recently I knew just where to go and the easiest way to get there,so it was a quick find.
It was a pleasure to sit down amongst the trees for a while to enjoy the views and to sign the logbook.
Thanks very much for the cache, well worth a favourite point.

So neat to explore a place we never knew existed! A gorgeous Welly day so a stunning view as well. Tftc!
Found it. Nice stroll on a new Wellington end of summer day.
Very nice location - thank you for reviving this cache. Awesome views!!! Another hidden piece of modern Wellington history.
Picked up trackable to move along to greener pastures.

The cache is up and running again with a new container and a new location at the same coordinates. There's also a new trackable in it ready to go off on its adventures. Enjoy!
Fort Buckley (Wellington) was transferred from Huntleigh to user TharnTheHalkan. I'll get this cache back up and running shortly. Thanks to Huntleigh for care-taking it up to now.
I checked on this cache today, as I was here on a lunchtime walk from work and it wasn't where I found it last year. As there's only been one log since I found it 7 months ago and that was a DNF, it definitely seems to have gone. I'm happy to take it over if the cache owner can no longer maintain it, as I'm a regular visitor here.
Searched high and low but no result How hard can a 700 ml container be to find? Will return if someone else finds it Thanks for the view
Have since seen the Nov 16 DNF and today's Needs Maintenance message Looks like it's gone AWOL

I really enjoyed my visit here today - a very interesting place to come.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to put my hands on the cache despite a prolonged search.
I'll put the cache on my watch list and see how others get on.

Had the good fortune to meet the main man from the community group that's looking after Fort Buckley (and this geocache). He told me about the great plans they have for the site. The log book was very wet, but he said he would replace it with a waterproof one. Great to see one of Wellington's lesser known gun emplacements. Fabulous view of he harbour today too.
Thanks for the memory Huntleigh — was exploring these old fortifications long before GPS!
Logbook still rather damp.
Logbook still rather damp.
Decided to have a look for this one on my way home from work this evening. Today was one of those "you can't beat Wellington on a good day" days and the view was spectacular from here.
The log book is a bit wet and mouldy, and is difficult to write on. I did my best not to damage it.
Thank you

This took much longer than it should have. The direct approach to GZ is not the best: look for something more circuitous. The log book is very damp and the swag is rusty, mouldy or both . Took nothing, left nothing, signed log with care. TFTC.
This has been on my to do list for a very long time it is an interesting piece of history. Tftc it is a shame to see the tagging
I love these little bits of history dotted around Wellington, and there's a spectacular view across the city from the fort. I replaced the cache as I found it, but the object mentioned in the hint may not survive much longer. TNLNSL TFTC
This was my second visit here. The first time was over a year ago and we had lots of problems. This time, none at all. Thanks for brining me here - A great place to visit and learn about. A fave point from me. TFTC
Zip lock with the logbook doesnt seal anymore and the book is a bit soggy (we rescued a page which tried to liberate itself as its falling appart) great view up here! TTFC!
This one and its predecessor had been in my sights ever since I started caching but with my lack of a head for heights I hadn't felt comfortable attempting either of them, but now with a more comfortable placement I was more confident.
A quick find once I found the correct approach, wandered around a little first but anyway no visit here would be complete without exploring the fortifications!
Kids must love it here! A great spot too to watch all the comings and goings on the outskirts of the city.
Shoes with a reasonably good grip would be a good idea, nothing major but just a little loose gravel on the main track and a bit of mud on the final approach to GZ. Mine weren't the best but no problem with taking some care.
As mentioned by the previous finder the log is rather soggy but usable. A bit of TLC might be a good idea. As for needing a pen the owner is under no obligation to provide one, BYO- a cacher shouldn't leave home without a writing instrument! I would have left one but unfortunately my extra one was out of ink.
A bit disappointing to see the lack of good swag, I suspect that is due to the common problem these days of people not swapping equivalent or better.
Today's paper had an article saying we should walk four or more hours a day, I didn't manage that but walking here from town and returning certainly clocked up some good walking time in very suitable weather.
TFTC.

Easy find but no pencil and wet.
Needs maintenance.
Great spot though, TFTC
(I didn't have a pencil so had to improvise, the stick writing on the top page is mine (WD))

Great spot and history. Thanks for bringing me here to a place I would never have known
Been curious about this one for while, a lovely day out exploring some of Wellington green spaces. A surprise visit as my knight in shinning armour drive me to the top, as I was going to leave this till Anzac day
#1635 Decided to collect some caches on my way back from Karori to convert some more icons to smilies on my map- collected caches until the battery on my phone and GPS were spent and I was resigned to going home and sorting some chores! What a fantastic place- had it all to myself as the weather was turning and keeping everybody indoors I think. Loved exploring the area before getting my hands on the cache. The hint object is certainly looking worse for wear and the cache could do with some TLC- the logbook is mouldy and damp. Great spot- I'll be back with my camera another day. TFTC!
Thank you for this wonderful cache. It was a beautiful place in an incredible country.
Tried to do this when we were new to caching but dnf finally managed to come back and was found quickly tftc log book wet
I'd been here before but not realised there was a cache. Glad I came again.
Log still a bit damp. No sign of silica gel.
Thanks.

Thank you for bringing me to this piece of history. Great view of the harbour, can see why the guns were placed here.
Just looking at a map and realised I hadn't logged this one yet! I think the date is correct, looked though old pictures on my phone to work out out. Oh yes, so this one had been on my list for ages before visiting, not just to get a cache but to see the remains of this place! Thanks for creating, it was well worth the visit - and nice to know there's a picnic table up there for lunch one day!
These old sights are always fascinating. The world still had its bickering and scares over a hundred years ago. Nothing seems to have changed. The views were pretty good over the harbour. Cache itself easily found. Again log book a little damp but still signable. Thanks for the cache.
A quick find after many months of wanting to attempt this cache but not quite getting around to it. Today, knowing I was going to be reasonably close (as the crow flies), I decided to knock it off. Just as well I did a bit of surfing beforehand to find the easiest access (had to go to work afterwards, so couldn't take the scenic route). There was quite a bit of moisture in the cache so I dried it out as best I could, binned some swag that was worse for wear (the log book is damp and mouldy, but obviously I left that!), and took what I thought was a Spongebob trackable - but there's no ID on it, nor is it logged in the cache inventory, so now I suppose it was swag? I didn't leave anything in its place - oops? TFTC
Found it after a little look just as it was going dark logged replaced and chucked in an old shilling coin as a track able

This one has been on the to-do list for some time, but never ended up in the right area (often close, but always at the wrong altitude). As I was aiming for a couple of nearby solved puzzles, added this to the list for today. Didn't take the easiest route to GZ today, but once there made a nice quick find. Cache all good. Really interesting history, and still a good historical site - thanks for bringing me up here.

Imagine my surprise. I lived here in the seventies and never knew that this existed. Consequently I have previously tried to get to GZ from below without much success [B)] Finally when I was in the area recently I looked at the map and realised that I had to come back to my old stamping ground to gain access.
Cool views. Just like the ones we had from our family home but maybe a bit closer.

Very cool place, I would never have knew existed, thanks for bringing us here Very nice views too. Log book is a bit damp so I added a little absorbent bag thing but it could probably do with something bigger to save it.
