Touring the South Island on a family holiday. A little time for a few caches along the way as well as sight seeing and other fun. Thanks to all the owners of the caches we found while exploring some interesting nooks and crannies of the Mainland.

Needed hint due to sketchy gps with overhead coverage of bamboo. Kinda creepy too, thought an axe murderer might be waiting in there to get me!

Bit early in the morning and not much light. Had to give up and go to work.
Very cool area in here. The bamboo is amazing. This one deserves a favourite point!

We had lunch at the beach and while the wife was busy I snuck off to find this one.
Great beach just very rainy and windy today.

Driving from Franz Josef to Christchurch today and grabbed some caches along the way. Quick find. Signed log. TFTC!
Holidaying in the South Island, grabbing a few caches on the way. Early morning find while in Hokitika. Thanks for the cache.
A fairly quick find, although we entered the hard way through the bamboo, and came out on the path. TFTC
Found this cache during a sabbatical leave couple of years ago. but forgot to log it.
We stood on the campground, found it while the kids were already sleeping

Couldn't see any carts but found cache quickly wsd harder getting back out. Lucky I left someone out to shine a light to find my way out. Found at around 11.15pm. Cool.
Found it at 2315 hr. Exciting trip in the dark. Luckily we had headlights to find our way.
Quick find while out and about collecting a few caches in the area. TFTC, #5814, an interesting spot!

A geocache at exactly 38 meters from our hotelroom - that one had to be grapped even with the pouring rain ! And we made it, wet but happy....
Last cache of the day, a total of 27 spread out over Hokitika and Lake Kaniere including some decent walks. A quick find - signed log, TFTC
Over in Hokitika on a cheap grab a seat flight from Christchurch. The 6th of 21 caches I did today.
Diving into the bamboo in the pitch black was fun. Having my phone and only source of light bleep a final gasp and then die when I was in the middle of signing the log was slightly unnerving though. Now which way was the car? Blindly found my way out using the sound of the pounding waves to guide me. TFTC!
Had a chuckle reading the description, was raining today so glad to find this cache easily.
Reckon I could smell a whiff of it after the rain this morning. Thanks for this bit of history. TFTC #4659
Nice One!!!!!!!Doing a bit of caching with family visitors from Florida while showing them the great sights and sound of the West Coast. Much fun. Thanks

Anew experience, hunting in a bamboo "forest"!!!! A great relief when we found the cache TFTC
Intersting bit of recent history! Got this one mixed up with another but finally found it without clues. GPS was very accurate despite the thick bamboo cover. TFTC
Quick find for us, we were staying just over the road so went off for an evening walk and a spot of caching. Nice to get one of your caches outside of Oamaru Bitsprayer! TFTC.
Oh...I have distant memories of a night cart in a different town though. A different kind of place to hide a cache. Liked it. TFTC
Goodness. 1979 doesn't seem long ago, does it!!!! Hmmm some history is best forgotten. However this was a cool spot for a cache.
Was there together with "Schlattergeiss"...
Thank you very much for showing us this great place!
Greetings from Switzerland!

Took a while to locate this one, obviously some muggle kids have found it and written in the log but not replaced the cache where they found it TFTC.
We managed to get in and out of here without getting totally bamboozled.
+ a marble, - nothing.

Staying across the road at the motor camp. Here for a wedding this weekend. Interesting history of this site. TFTC
Didn't read the cache description before going out for this one which was no more than 150m from where we were staying, so when GZ seemed to disappear off into the bamboo, I was surprised. Followed the GPSr and after a pleasant meander through the maze, eventually found it. TFTC and a favourite.
Easy found it during the trip around south Island with

Found at 9:52 AM GAFF5 in the company of Phetlern. Thank goodness for accurate co-ords as it was like a maze in there. Hope it wasn't dumped really nearby to where we were searching.
Thanks Bitsprayer

Day 17 of our NZ tour for the MEGA, currently travelling from Franz Josef to Hokitika giving the West Coast a 2nd chance after our earlier visit being rained out! What magnificent weather was turned on for us today. The best we have had in our 17 days and it got up to 17degrees which was positively WARM in the car.
Well it took several goes to find the access point.
Once at GZ the cache was quickly located.

A good find on a trip to Hokitika, dropped off St. Mary Star of the Sea Geocoin. TFTC
An interesting spot in here, finding the way in wasn't too hard, though I did step on a pile of something I hoped was just the neighbour's grass clippings and not the original material! Left a TB here for the next finder that I brought over from Sydney. Thanks Bitsprayer, then soon heading south towards Dunedin for the mega event. Cheers.
Staying overnight in Hokitika, so a chance to get out and explore the area via a few caches. Took us a while to find the way in lol ... and then trying to find our way out again was also a mission lol... bet the kids love playing in here. SL. TFTC.
Seemed an appropriate cache to do after tea. Luckily we didn't wait until it was truly night because we probably wouldn't have been able to find it as we left the torches at the motel. An odd spot.. but lots of fun. Thanks.
