An interesting spot - pleased there was an excuse to stop. Took longer than it should have but got there in the end. tftc
Out for a hunt with the partner since relocating to the coast, TFTC took a bit to find!
After years on our bucket list and three cancellations due to Covid, we are thrilled to finally be here. Following several cruises we flew from Sydney, Australia to Wellington, New Zealand to begin our next adventure. Picked up our rental vehicle and will be driving, exploring, hiking, and caching both islands for 3.5 weeks. Fun to see this old structure and grab a smiley. We waved to the bike riders as they passed.... that we had met up at WCWT Kaniere 2. Thanks for adding to our adventure today, Nukeworker and Racquetball Girl, Arkansas, USA
Down south from Tauranga. On a roadie with a group of friends. Great to collect a few caches along the way. Many thanks.Sigining as Team DAM to save room on logs. Found wilderness trail today. I am logging using the Cachly app template so please excuse generic logging along the way. Its just my way of keeping track, but I do genuinely thank each and every one of you cache owners for taking the time and energy to place these caches. Many Thanks for bringing me here. Cheers.
2663. Had to use the hint on this one as the Garmin was pointing us to the wrong bank, but we found it in the end. TFTC!!!

Interesting structure, although mostly familiar after biking the track. I have added a replacement with the CO's permission - in the low bank parallel to the race.
Sadly we have to add our name to the DNF List. But it was nice to see what must have been here years ago...
What a fantastic place. We are so glad that you brought us here even though we just couldn't find the cache. We thought we knew what the container would look like but that didn't help either.
Very happy to see a replacement cache here to get rid of the blue frown thanks andy.gail. We were out exploring the area while on holiday in Hokitika. Thanks for bringing us here and the cache Bitsprayer.
#276 luckily the cache made stop us here otherwise we would not have seen this viaduct. TFTC
After conquering Mt Brown and claim the ftf at the same time anything else I do today would be a walk in the park .
Would be a road trip without finding one of the Co's caches....how much fun would be to ride an inner tube down from the lake along the race....in keen

Found on my tour today, a strange construction I have never seen before.

Friday 7 February. Its on our bikes at Lake Mahinapua. Then off to Hokitika Gorge and Lake Kaniere and back to Hokitika. Moved north with Zara to Kumara Junction for the night. So lets go exploring!
Making a long weekend out of Waitangi Day exploring the West Coast with Zara Toby, Bullertrout and Bro. Its Waitangi Day today. Exploring Hokitika, Ross, Hokitika George, Lake Mahinapua, Lake Kaniere areas today. Great time and visited some amazing places..

#17812. A very interesting feature (well worth a cache!). Initially we parked in the cycle track parking area, but we soon realised we were in the wrong spot. We carried on a bit further down the road and found a decent size area beside the road to park in. Quick find. TFTC.
Found with StreetWalkerNZ on a lovely sunny morning on a drive to Hokitika Gorge, then back via the Dorothy Falls and Lake Kaniere. It was a very scenic and enjoyable trip.
We had found a few caches beside this water race today so good to make this number 3. My GPSr was packing a sad and telling me that GZ was 20m off to my right while SW was several metres in front of me. fossicking for the cache. He found it too. Time to turn the Oregon off and on again, me thinks. Great location, thanks for bringing me here. TFTC.

Finally found this one ..the clues from Andy really helped. Thanks for sorting this one Andy.

We also could not find so dropped a replacement in place as it's a good view. Cache is now a pill bottle under a rock at corner of rock bank. Looking at the photo's on cache page area has definitely changed. Viaduct has more of a fence guarding it now. There is a dirt and rock 'bund' to stop you going over the bank to the river - cache is not in that. Also a dirt and rock wall/bank towards the road - not there either. Our GPS put us nearer the 'L' shaped rock wall/bank in the centre of the area. We placed the replacement at the bend in the 'L' under a small rock pile. It is far enough away from the edge of anything to not be washed away anywhere.
We certainly gave this a good try but had no luck. Certainly not our day today as worst ever 2 from 6 finds. Then saw others not found either so don't feel so bad.
Nope, we couldn't find it either. Maybe it was a case of cache blindness, but maybe it has gone AWOL??
Awesome spot. Need to read up a bit of history to fully comprehend what's going on here. Hmmmm. Looks like perhaps the cache has been immortalised... Recent stabilisation work here might be to blame. We haven't found it an gz but maybe our goods was taking us to the wrong place? See pic...
Wow this is so fantastic! I could almost imagine going on one of those log fume rides along here. The log book was completely soaked so I decided to take it for a ride to dry out and bring back later in the day. However it took a lot longer so replaced it the next day - hoping that no one came by in the meantime. TFTC # 13,012
I decided to have a trip out to Lake Kaniere today to locate the caches out that way plus a few on the way.
This water race certainly leaks a bit.
Cheers for the cache.

1:29:00 PM. Found while on holidays from Australia. Leaky was cetainly correct. Interesting structure. Log signed even though very wet. Thanks Bitsprayer for the cache.
Several places to choose when looking for this one, but did not take long. tftc.
When we were planning a pre-Xmas holiday, Mr D said - and we have to have a day on the West Coast Wilderness Trail! So here we are, got dropped off at Kumara and are biking back to Hokitika. Beautiful day and a great place to explore. 73 km, 743 m total ascent, 8:41 total time.
This was the last cache of the trip - it was a steady grind back down the road to Hokitika after this - a quick find (once Mr D had guided Mrs d to the correct end of Old Leakey!

Tracks in grass showed the way to this one. Nice easy find after miraculously finding husbands wedding ring after he lost it on the edge of Lake Kanieri. TfTC!
There is certainly plenty of leaks in this structure, far too many for accompanying grandson to count.
The cache was easily found and the log soon signed.
Thank you Bitsprayer.

Thank you Bitsprayer.
It never stops to amase me when I look at the achievements of the pioneers and what they accomplished with a pick-ax and shovel. A quick find between passing cyclists. Thank you Bitsprayer
A quick on a beautiful day find before leaving this area. I'm looking forward to returning some day soon and walking the track. Tftc
After we spend the night at Hans Bay at the lake we had this cache for breakfast Thank you for leading us here!
An interesting place. And a leaky bag as well.
**Thanks** for the cache!

*Finally vacation and time for the trip 'down under' to Australia and New Zealand via China. We’re expecting to see a lot of different animals and flowers and also hope to find nice caches and meet other geocachers during our journey.*

Hideeho Thanks for the cache:) Greetings from the USA! Touring New Zealand and stopping for cache. Really enjoyed seeing this place.
What a good place to put a cache, so that you stop and admire "Old Leaky". Thanks.
We rent cycles in Hokitika and went up to Hans Bay and on return via the famous Wilderness Cycle route we stopped for a Coffee and after that we searched and found the cachebox. Unfortunately logbook was very wet.

#551 found after a short search. Thanks for showing me this location, pretty cool stuff
We got up after sleeping at Franz Josef an visited the glacier before heading up to Greymouth. A nice day that's included several cache stops.
This cache was part of our 2015 New Zealand trip in which many great moments were had. Many views were seen and more photos were taken. Several caches were also found.
Thanks to all the hiders for their caches.

Wow what an interesting sight! Had to grab a photo of this as well as the cache on a lovely Labour day raid into Kaneire for some DOC caches. TFTC, gets a fav point for making us stop and look.
Very fun little find. Love the waterway! I much prefer it on the leaky wooden channels to boring pipes. Lots more personality lol.
We have driven to the lake and stopped here. A great construction for the water. I'll give you a favorite point for the location. Thanks for sharing with us
Found in the sun, on a lovely drive/walk round the lake. Definitely OLD LEAKY. TFTC.
6766. Out for the day geocaching from our base in Kumara to Lake Kaniere. This was cache number fifteen of twenty one for the day. An easy cache right by the road. We love this engineering feat, and the walk/cycle way beside it. An interesting place to stop and view. Thanks for the cache. Rodney and Iris.
Day 2 of my two day exploration of the West Coast Wilderness Trail. A friend dropped me off at the Kawhaka Intake and I hoped to meet him again in Hokitika in 5 hours time. With all the stops I hade made along the way I noticed that I had taken 4 hours 36mins to reach here. Enjoyed looking at Old Leaky, though it does have some competitors further back up the water race. Could I make Hokitika in 24 mins? Nah! I've still got some caches between here and there. Back on my bike.
Found this one quite quick while cycling the wildernesstrail. Thanks for showing this aquaeduct
A quick find with Mapper Ted while riding the cycle trail from Cowboy Paradise to Hokitika. Thanks for bringing us here Bitsprayer - otherwise we would have biked past without noticing. Old Leaky indeed - a favourite for this one.
It certainly is old leaky. Thanks for placing this cache here. By the way it needs maintaining. It is very wet.

Obviously there no need to save water on the West Coast. TFTC

Unfortunately only a 50% find rate in the rain this arvo & this was one of our two DNFs. Next time
This was a unique feature to visit, as we have ever seen anything like it before. Definitely worth a favourite. Despite the many leaks, a large quantity of water was still passing over it, and the cache was a quick easy find. TFTC

There's a hole in my bucket Dear Liza, lol leaky is right, but really cool. Nice easy find tftc
A break in the wet weather allowed us to find this cache, we didn't even realise there was a powerstation nearby, great history. TFTC.
