First find for today. I had been here before and tried lots of different spots with no joy. Today I did pretty much the same thing, but one thing different.I read a previous finders log.I then ignored the hint, trusted the coords, and made the find. TFTC B&W.Today was a bit of an old school caching day for me.RG72 had plenty on today with her friends pre-wedding celebrations, and while I have a few obligations Friday and Sunday, Saturday is mostly free time to do what I like.So that will be go out for about 4-5 hours geocaching and then write up logs in the afternoon while enjoying the sun and a beer. And then study up on our upcoming trip. So that is how today rolled .I did a bit of a loop up Pigeon Valley, through Dovedale and Thorpe and then made my way back through Tapawera to Brightwater. An interesting day. There were a couple of DNFs, a few others with limited parking options, and some other minor issues. The main one probably being no-one to photo document my finds. I got swooped by magpies at at least 2 of them, cos its the season for that. All up pretty good though. A few more smilies on the map although none toward any particular goal. Thanks all COs, appreciate you keeping them active.
I really enjoyed the drive to GZ. I looked in all the places that fit the hint, but didn't find the cx until I looked in a place that didn't fit the hint. TFTC.

Interesting how grass root stock has grown round the sistema O-ring. Check out the photo!

I was nearby checking some old trucks and thought I'd come and find this cache. Took a few minutes longer than expected but I was happy to retrieve it. Thanks bumandworker.
Had a nice chat to the local bulls who were very friendly, log damp so replaced but otherwise all good. Thanks b&w, I'd not been down this road before.
Out and about in the Pigeon Valley today. Quick grab. Log pretty wet but still able to add my name. Thanks for the cache.
Took a bit longer than I expected, the growth over almost a year since the last find had hidden a bit more.
Nice little drive, thanks for the detour and TFTC

We checked all six strainers and could not believe that we were not able to find it.
There are probably just two sorts of people who travel all the way along the South Branch: Loggers and Geocachers.
Tonight it was Loggers 0 - Geocachers 1
I still made a ham-fisted attempt at finding the cache, but there was no one watching, so where's the harm.
Thanks

Out and about with our seven year old grandson - going out for a 'treasure hunt'. I told him about when we used to live up the South Branch and I pointed out the house that we used to live in when his dad was five years old. The cache was a easy find - master seven said - that was the easiest cache we have ever found. I think there has been some fairly recent driveway work done and the cache was just sitting next to the post totally in the open, so we gathered a few rocks and gave it a little bit of cover. tftc
Another branch in the road, another cache. I hopped out to find while hubby turned around. Quick sign and we are off again.
Quick find. Never been up here before and not sure why I'd come up here again unless there was another cache! TFTC
A weekend trip to Nelson to attend the event then cache our way back to Blenheim via Brightwater, Wakefield and 88 Valley Road was hatched earlier in the week and with Pi Day kindly offering up not one, but two shiny souvenirs, it was agreed that we would head over the hill, again!
Saturday morning to the Event, sleep in the car Saturday night (for me, the Seagnoid would take his bivvy tent and sleeping bag) then a long and slow trip back to bag as many caches as possible. Somehow though, this was lost in communication and the Seagnoid kindly volunteered himself to be Joe le taxi on Saturday night so the whole thing was brought forward 24 hours. My G P S has packed a sad and won't work anymore so I was on borrowed equipment and hastily loaded a G S A K list of potential finds, and some solved puzzles, and off we set at about 5:30 from sunny Blenheim. Grabbed caches before it got too dark to keep going, and managed 6 by torch light which helps towards one of my missing M G S C attributes, yay, just the Events to go now to qualify. At last it's Pi day. Wake up after an uncomfortable and too warm, then warm enough, then too cold night.
On the road home, the long way round, via Brightwater, Wakefield and 88 Valley and St Arnaud.
Accidentally took the South Branch Road, but as luck would have it there was a cache here, nice
Easy find at G Z, replaced as found

[green] Suddenly I find this weekend is free, So capperz and I set off to the Pi Day event in Nelson. And to grab a few puzzles. Gotta get them souvenirs! And, since we are out there anyway, grab a few dozen caches along the way.
Spent Friday night in Grampions Reserve, got to the event, and now heading back to Blenheim via St Arnaud. Main objectives out this way - the wherigo and a letterbox cache. The wherigo is done, now off to the letterbox. But we gotta get there first, and this cache was in the way. Nice easy find.

Whilst Mr Geckoh contemplated the allures of cycling the road (having not ridden his road cycle in some months) Mrs Geckoh turned a very simple find into a 'shocking' experience by leaning over an electric fence wire and touching it with her head. Suffice to say, she was not impressed and will be far more wary in future. Still enjoyed the find, TFTC

First time up here for me. Looks like someone had big ideas for a money-making scheme. Wonder what happened. Thanks for bringing us here.
Since we were out this way it would have been silly not to grab it for a smiley. It was out first time out this way TFTC
A pretty valley that I have only ever been up once before now. TFTC.
PS Cache was found looking pretty exposed - I doubt it looked like that when first hidden - tucked it in a bit as others before me should have done.

Being so close we had to drive by and collect this one. It was interesting watching the gps for distance to cache starting at 3km then out to 10km before dropping back to GZ. Thanks for bringing us along another new road. TFTC
Having done Hawks and Doves it kind of made sense to follow the road to complete this cache then followed the road out - didnt really know where the road was going to lead us but ended up recognising the Wakefield end of the road - a lot bigger drive then we were intending but interesting in the end to get our bearings - no trouble advoiding the animal remains for a quick find and sign thanks for the cache
We enjoyed the drive up the branch although the remains near the cache site were less pleasant. No problems with the hide. Thanks
quick find
watched intently by 17 muggles who was very interested in what we were doing
great cache

Yum yum, nice smelly pig skin / guts next to cache. However, cache still accessable without getting too close. No trucks today, gate shut! TNLN Thanks
I was up this way yesterday and somehow didn't have this one loaded, so back again today for a quick find.

Ideal way to finish the new B&W Wakefield caches. Sort of on the way home if you're on a mountain bike! Thanks for a fun afternoon out.
Nice One!!!!!! First time up this road. Very impressed with the whole area. Each turn in the road reveiled another photo gem. Life style blocks not to bad either. Quick and easy find, Much fun with Grandson thanks to PTA strike. Go teachers! Thanks
FTF After humming to ourselves in Brightwater we flew up Pigeon Valley all the way to this cache. I don't think I'd ever been up the South Branch before. Mrs Biggles grabbed the cache again. TFTC, Biggles.
