Second attempt to look for this. There is no "obvious location"It really needs a hint.
Not a simple PNG. Left van on tarmac and walked. Good idea as logging truck came thundering down.
I wouldn't say "Simple park beside cache hidden in the obvious location."

Day 3 of my annual west coast adventure...and its raining!!!
Going round a few I didnt find on friday....spotted the obvious straight away on the other side of the road from where I had looked before...but that's where the luck ran out for a while..wasnt expecting to see a set of stairs in the bush...bit random...kept going round in circles then check some of the previous photos...turns out I was standing in the exact spot it was taken!!!!! Still didnt find the cache straight away must be getting tired...I did get it eventually though..tftc

This is our third DNF today and we are losing hope. We found the erratic, more than one, but after searching all around we could not locate the cache. Took us ages to find somewhere safe to do a U-turn and I am pretty sure we were nearly at the other end. But as we didn't know where the road went we returned the way we came.
The gps was very erratic so used caching instinct instead. Thanks Moneydork

#17840. We were a little erratic looking for this one. It took a while to realise which side of the road GZ was on. Then it took quite a lot of searching (of many hint objects) until I managed to find it by touch just as we were about to give up. TFTC.
It is our last day in Hokitika, as StreetWalkerNZ and I are spending tonight in Greymouth then returning home to Christchurch tomorrow. The forecast was for rain developing, so we made an early start to find a few more caches in the area before the rain set in.
This was the first cache of the day and I wish I could say it was an easy find. Both our GPSrs pointed to the same side of the road, where we struggled to find anything that looked at all like an erratic. I finally found a rock which was so covered in moss and lichen that it was hard to tell what it looked like. It didn't reveal the cache .
SW cast the net wider, and espied some large rocks across the road. Aaah, these look more likely. We spent several minutes searching here, and I was wanting to pull the plug as we had things to do. SW had one more look, in a spot already searched, but obviously not deep enough, because there was the cache. Grabbed the TB.
For those that follow, look on the LHS of the road (if heading away from Kaniere). TFTC.

Took a bit of searching and intuition. GPS not helpful at all.
Glad we found it..grandson was getting 'over it' nice enjoyable hunt.

Our last find for this trip. Tomorrow we head back home as work demands the time of one of us. A short search here located the cache and logbook was signed. TB left. tftc
What a great place looked for ages in what turned out being wrong side. Phone kept taking us here then I looked across and saw what was described and went over for a nosey. Oh yes a great cache and hide. All good and dry. Great we got this as only found 2 from 6 today worst ever. Thanks for this cache Moneydork.
Family (In Laws plus Sister & Brother In Law plus their kids!) holiday on the West coast (Hokitika and Westport). After a trip out to Lake Kaniere and Hokitika gorge I ducked in here for a quick find and sign. What a random spot! Way cool. Thanks!
Our original intention today was to cache our way from Jacksons through to Springfield but with chains essential from Otira we hastily came up with Plan B which brought us back to Hokitika and the wider area.
We had previously attempted to find this cache but unfortunately it was a DNF for us, likely due to it being awol but it has since been replaced. Today it was a very quick find.
Thank you Moneydork.

We planned some solid caching for a few days but the weather gods had different ideas. Warning today for Arthur's Pass was chains required. So no good caching conditions there then either. We soon came up with an alternative and stuck to lower altitudes We spent time here before with no result. Then we got wind of a replacement so it was added to our list today. No trouble with the find here. Thanks Moneydork for the cache and the Seagnoid for the replacement
A nice and quick find this time round. Cheers.
Today was a day spent in and around Hokitika, with the weather mostly overcast, and only a wee bit of rain later in the day. Had a great time on some walks, and finding some puzzles and multis.
Thanks to all the CO's for placing and maintaining these caches. Cheers.

The Seagnoid, Zara Toby and I are off for an expedition to the West Coast for a long weekend. Left Zara with her friend Total Span. With Ross behind us we are back to explore Hokitika.
Another great place to visit. Cache very elusive here - basically non-existent so its a replacement sorted. Cheers

On a three-day geocaching extravaganza with Taybeedragon, mostly centred around Hokitika. I would love to know how Moneydork find some of these places. Like this one - was he here 80-100 years ago when all the bush was gone and it was just farmland/mining?
Anyway, I love this little place. gets a favourite. Yes the cache was gone, but that is all past tense now, the dragon and I fixed that.
Lots of fushia flowers everywhere on the ground. Alas, way too early for fruit. Fushia berries are edible, taste like grapes.

Didn't find it in the obvious location.

Started off in the wrong place then hubby found it, but then, he had the GPS for guidance:)
November in Europe, the dark month, neighter autumn nor winter: short days, rain, fog. Everywhere unlucky people.
But now we are in NZ. Early sunrise, mighty green and flowers everywhere. Happy cows and sheeps also. We delight look forward to such lovely challenge. Thank you NZ. Greetings from Germany, from the mountains of Harz. TFTC

Found it! We really enjoyed our walking tour of Hokitika! After our walk we went for a drive and visited the Lake and stopped for a couple of nearby caches! This was one of them. Is the Little Erratic still here or is it completely overgrown? Also found when giving up on the way out. Photo was helpful to work out where to go in! TFTC SL Cheers from Pippin69 & the Travelling Muggles from Melbourne!
Headed out to Hokitika George and for a loop around Lake Kaniere today, looking for a few caches on the way. Similar to others, found on way out. TFTC!
Had it harder than it was. Hunted all over in the bush and then found it on the way out! TFTC
This was a good one!
Followed the Geo-trail into the bush, and stood there looking at my GPS.
It said go West Old man, no go SW, no go East, I was going in circles.
No, it's in there. I gave up! Went to get help. My wife is now looking. We both look and look. She quit! Alone a again.... Ok, where is it????
I quit............ no wait ...THERE it is, just look at that, WOW! Yes, and it's only a 1.5 X 1.5..
Changed bags now every thing is dry, including the log, which I signed.

One thing I love about geocaching is all the things that you learn. Thanks for adding to my knowledge data base . I too had some difficulty finding this - - - mainly of my own doing. If I hadn't tried bush-bashing and exploring I would have had the cache in hand much sooner.
It took us a wee while to find this cache, after initially venturing further than we should have, then spotting it on the way out. What is the obvious hiding place to the owner isn’t necessarily as obvious to others. As the logbook was sodden and mouldy, we replaced it. TFTC
Not a park and grab with a 4WD towing boat up your backside..... So bit of a scenic drive before we could turn around for a relatively easy park and grab. Contents Soaked. tftc
Persistance paid with this one.
Kept thinking it was one feature and not even.
Anyway .

Interesting geology lesson. Wasted a bit of time looking where I thought it should be, then followed the GPSr for a quick find. Signed log, TFTC
Thanks for bringing me to this very cool location. This is why I enjoy caching. Never would have seen this otherwise. Down here for the Coast to Coast and had a few hours to spare so decided to go for a bit of a drive around.

Staying overnight in Hokitika, so a chance to get out and explore the area via a few caches. Quick find. SL. TFTC.
This is what we enjoy about geocaching. New information in fascinating spots. TFTC.
A nice quick drive by and now that I have read the cache notes the name makes sense to !!!! we were just following our noses and gps around this evening as we dont know our way around signed log thanks for the cache
Another cache discovered on our exploring of this area and after a quick find the name became far more apparent TFTC
Took a couple of minutes longer than it should have. Glad it wasn't as hard as its namesake. Cheers Gav [9520]
On to this one before I knew it. Had visions of another cache with a similar name. LOL.
Found this one on our 4 weeks holiday in the South Island.
