Beautiful Day in the Riwaka valley, cache slightly damp but still signable. Tftc this place is truly special
Summer Holiday 2024Day #5Spending a couple of days in Stephens Bay and today AlpiSteve and I ventured here to the Riuwaka Resurgence. This was an amazing area and we thoroughly enjoyed our time here, especially at the end which for the majority we had to ourselves so completely took in our beautiful, tranquil surroundings. Found this on our way back to the carpark after reluctantly having to leave. We had no problems locating cache as spotted from the right spot...such an awesome place and wow 5 cache types in the area is pretty special too TFTCMake your way to Dunedin for New Zealands next large multi-day event. GCA7ZHD Geo Toroa will be held on NZs Labour Day long weekend 26-27th October 2024
This is a beautiful spot. Stopped here and the kids jumped off in the water hole. What a beautiful spot.
This is just awful to be honest. Every rock has loads of moss on it and there are about 4 fallen trees. Gave up after 20 mins
Searching through the GZ area with a family of 6. Lots of places that resemble the hint + GPS kept circling around. In the end: no luck, no cache found. But it might very well still be lurking there somewhere, cause I can't say we've really covered every nook and cranny.
It was the find that very nearly didn't happen. 1MinnieMoo and I spent a good 15 minutes looking for this one. Thankfully, 1MinnieMoo brought it to light and signed the log. Happy to have gotten this one. TFTC BigglesNZ
26/9/2023 Find #6620Day 18 of the Fangsoki/1MinnieMoo New Zealand South Island adventure. We are currently staying in Nelson for a couple of nights, and decided today we should head up along the coast a bit. There were a couple of caches on the list, and when I looked at how far up we were going to go today, I noticed 4 caches here that werent too far from there, so made the request that we please add these to the list. And Im pleased we did. What a lovely area! Rainforests and waterfalls are my happy place, and this place had both. At GZ, the search took both Fangsoki and me some time before I finally spotted what we were after. Thanks for the cache BigglesNZ.
Day 9 on our holiday in New Zealand. Today we are in the area and surrounding area of Nelson. We also visited this letterbox on the way to Riwaka Resurgence Earth Cache, and signed the logbook.

With sveppi came here for a look. Atrer reading the cache description I didn't trust the GPS and I should have because in the end I found the cache within 3m of where it was pointing. Cache wet, one logbook pretty soggy but the other one is ok. Glad to tick a letterbox hybrid, unusual cache type. Tftc.
Since I started caching, I've never made the time nor opportunity to look for the hides at Riwaka Resurgence. So, on my last full weekend in the area, I planned a trip there, Marahau, Kaiteriteri, and Mot for a cache grab.
Lots of cars in the car park but few people around. Hmmm? Not that bothers me as it's nice and quiet for an explore towards the GZ which, it turned out, is closer to the main track than I realized. Not to worry. I had a nice wander through the trees.
There were a few logs and mossy stones but as I looped round one of the logs I spied a rock which tweaked my interest. Bingo!
Thanks BigglesNZ (nee Biggles and Co.)

Good find once the GPs settled down as was soon found, a good hiding area and camo.

Found on the way back to the car. Was well hidden but process of elimination narrowed the search area. An awesome little walk to an interesting geological feature. TFTC.
Came up to find the source at the resurgence- was very cool, the amount of water calmly appearing to run down as a river.
Cache found in good condition. Tftc

This was so hard to find. We first looked around but there were so many hint objects everywhere. We then walked to the resurgence and explored more on the way back. We used others description but it took us too far from GZ. After reading the hint again, and paying attention to each word, we made sure we were looking under and next to the right hints. Little cacher made the find. As usual he said he found it but no there was nothing, as he replaced the cover he felt something... It had found it! Yeepee. Both container and logbook are in good condition considering how wet the place is. Very good hiding spot.
Found the cache on the way to where the water comes out of the rock face. TFTC
We search for quite some time, felt like under every rock / tree / etc at least three times.
GPS is really hard to lock down here, but I could get it close.
Couldn’t find it - not sure if we missed it or if it just isn’t there!

After the last DNF, I didn't hold out much hope in finding this one. I also had the same issues with GPS signal reception. Once I settled on the big hint item, I started searching for the smaller one. There were many possibilities and lots of ground to cover, so it took me several loops before finding the right one. And, once I moved the little hint item, I still needed to reach in to find the cx. TFTC.
A little scratching around amongst the possibilies but found save and sound. TFTC
First I tried to use the gps but that did not work so used the cacher instincts and found the box within one minute
After an initial hunt at the suspected GZ we have up and carried on to the resurgence. Doubled back took another route, looked at the hint (which was comical considering the number of fallen trees and mossy rocks!), then back to original GZ and boom. Obvious rock hiding the container.

We are holidaying in Nelson at present, mainly to spend time with some of Mr G’s family but hoping to fit in some geocaching when the opportunity arises.
Today six of us headed north west to stay at Pakawau Beach before joining a Farewell Spit tour tomorrow. There are many caches along the route but we focused on a few that were special such as EarthCaches or Virtuals with particular walks and views incorporated.
After visiting the EarthCache at the resurgence itself, we deviated off a bit to find this. We didn’t find any picnic tables but we found the likely starting area and followed the upstream and GPSr which proved pretty much spot-on and there was the nicely tucked away cache. It’s a shame the stamp has gone but all was well otherwise. We noticed we were very close to the main track so popped back out on that to return to the car park. TFTL.

There were a lot of people around, but I managed to find a gap in the traffic long enough to find the cache and sign it. The stamp for letterboxing is missing, possibly someone took it thinking it was a trade?
Despite a fairly early start there were a good few people exploring the area so had to perform some covert ops to prevent being muggled. SJT_NZ identified the final location and we teamed up on the two log books as I'd remembered the stamp. Thanks Biggles & Co. always enjoy a letterbox.
Tregearp and I had come up here for this cache some time ago - only to find that we'd not copied the pocket query onto the GPSrs, and then there was no reception on phones, and we'd not printed out any of the cache pages so we couldn't even enter coordinates manually. We did have a scematic of the area at a good scale, but you're never going to find a cache off that!
We came back today for this one plus a clutch of others to increase our Leap Day stats. Quite busy despite the early hour. A quick find and by staying still and quiet I don't think anyone saw us hunkered down as we completed formalities. Thanks Biggles & Co. for the cache.

Staying at Moss reserve in motorhome with family from Holland. Came here this morning to enjoy the walk and beauty here. Loved the walk to this cache and got awesome photos. Thanks for this cache Biggles and Co.
Always enjoy visiting this spot. Last time the cache was disabled so a return trip with some friends to sample the waters was needed. Thanks for the cache.
We did the walk before lunch. People were swimming in the water. It was very busy but I was tucked away enough for noone to notice. Day two of our trip, we stayed in Murchison last night.
JDScout and I are on a campervan holiday from Christchurch to Collingwood to Havelock and back home to Christchurch. Geocaching is on my agenda. We both like biking and walking too. Thanks Biggles and Co. for placing this geocache it is find 8087 for me.
Sadly there was no large event in New Zealand in 2019 but there are a few Mega events planned in Australia. New Zealand will have another large event in 2020 in Auckland.
======== NZ Mega 2020 ========
Planning for the NZ Mega 2020 event is well underway. It will be held in Auckland over Labour Weekend, 23 to 26 October 2020. Thanks for hiding this geocache.

This area was recommended to us by a helpful person at the iSite and so we went here. We did not regret it - absolutely beautiful nature here.
The letterbox was ok to find. I was a bit disappointed not to find a stamp in there for my own Stamp Book. Otherwise everything was fine here.

Camping down the road we went for a walk along the river and picked up the cache along the way. The hint helped as the gps was all over the place due to the trees. A few weekends ago I had been out caving and some of the divers on the trip had told me to come check this out. I was not disappointed. Thanks.
Lovely walk to here. But Nigel had me all over the place here. Finally tracked this one down to get it tagged. Cheers. No to the end of the track..
Its Labour Weekend so Zara, Toby and I are off to explore Tasman for a few days. Its Sunday, Zara is resting up in Motueka, while Toby and I are heading back to Kaiteriteri to explore some more.

My bad. I will get to this cache by the end of this week - or archive it if I can't.
Bad luck to us. Traditional seems to be gone, this letterbox couldn't be found, too.. Die_Butzis on 29. November 2018.
May the forest be with you.

Found this one today on a lovely little walk. What a magical place this is!
Thanks for placing and maintaining the cache and also for the hint. Although there are no picnic tables, so it took a detour for me to figure it out.

Nine days to do some caching for the price of four leave days - who could complain about that! I found a quirky place to stay near Motueka, ad decided to base myself there to cache in the wider area. I had a few on my hit list, and ended up finding a great variety of different caches on the trip.
Day four - a bit of a recovery day after a long tramp the day before... Lovely spot here, and out of the way so all the visitors walking past continued in blissful ignorance. TFTC!!

A somewhat challenging find for my daughter but we got there in the end.
No stamp in letterbox.

Today the pool isn't "crystal" due to the rain next days. I dream about go inside the resurgence but I haven't my gear here... TFTC (a French caverngirl!)
This was our first cache find with my daughter which was really cool. There was no pencil so will go find it again and put a pencil in and write in the log
On a week's walking and caching holiday with trifolia argentea we aimed for 100 caches. Thanks to all cache owners.
Great spot. The hint was very useful here in the bush! A favourite. TFTC
Finally located this one as I was searching in another area that meets the hint description.
Cheers for the cache.
Cheers for the cache.
Out for a quick walk b4 heading back to chch after an enjoyable weekend at the cider festival. Stumbled upon this rather quickly. No stamps sadly in box. A bit damp but ok.
been a while since I did a letterbox cache so a bit of a bonus for me today, started off from the wrong seat opps should have been a table but soon got on the trails and the GPS let me to the prize, quite dark and cold in the bush down here once the sun goes down behind the hills.
After my hike through Abel Tasman NP, I thought it was too early to go home again. So I looked at my GPS, which told me that at the end of this road there'd be some caches. So after parking my car and walking up a little, I found myself in some woods, looking for a tree with grassy stone next to it. Luckily there's only one single place that fits that description... So, after 10 minutes of searching I walked back a little down the trail and then spotted something on the right. Thanks for hiding!
GPS doing a dance, as expected, looked in the likely places, just decided to have one more sweep and there it was mocking me. Beautiful spot nice and cool on a very hot day.
The bush was quite wet, not too nice at all in t-shirt and shorts. Once on the right track, quickly found and smilified. Cheers.
Exploring around Motueka, Riwaka and Marahau today. There are a few caches around here!!
Thanks to the CO's for the hides. Cheers.

It wasnt easy and took me a while to find the right spot but after 30 minutes...done:-). Thanks for the cache.
Today was the second day of our caching weekend over the hill. Weather-wise it was a bit cooler, which was nice. Today's goal was pretty simple - a new high of different cache types found in a day. Anything above that was a bonus. I guess we can claim partial success for the day because we met our goal of 8, but there were some frustrations due to DNFs or just lots of muggle activity in and around Motueka. But you're going to get that and some of these caches have not been found for a while. The day finished well with the event in Mot, and while you can't talk to everyone, it's great to put some faces to names. That alone made the trip worthwhile. Anyway, that's the generic cut and paste bit, what follows is more specific to this cache.
We needed a letterbox today, of course, and the options were pretty slim in that department. This one fitted perfectly though, as we were in Motueka for the event - so we expanded our range out past Riwaka to go for an amble. Unfortunately time was not on our side, otherwise we would have loved to explore this area more thoroughly. It really does look like a cool place. The cache itself eluded us for about 10 minutes until i spotted it from a small distance. A huge sigh of relief - we didn't have a plan B . TFTC Biggles, and nice to meet you today.

On Wed 7th the brand new Oregon 700 hiccuped and lost all cache details from the Takaka PQ. Still showed icons with cache names- but no details. So a trip to the Takaka internet cafe to note down the directions and hints for a handful of essential Takaka caches... this was one of them. A quiet wander through the trees. The Crystal Pool nearby looked almost inviting, but it would need to be a very hot day to get into that cold water.
TFTC. Sure a beautiful part of the country.
These caches were our target for the day.
Thanks BigglesNZ for creating the cache.

Just had a lovely walk up to the resurgence time for a quick cache before the muggles come back TFTC
Spectacular place that I don't come to enough. Following the hint still took a bit of a search but spotted in the end. Wonderful day, thanks very much.
along with fiona84 month on a 2 journey through new zealand and australia. on the journey we passed through the cache to beautiful places and were also some very old caches log. many thanks for cherish and maintain the caches.
Together with schrek77 I traveled two months through New Zealand and Australia . First we traveled with a camper for 6 weeks the North and South Island of New Zealand . Then we went to Melbourne where we visited the city and the surrounding area . then we went to closing in the north of Australia . During this time we visited several geocaches and were brought to very nice places through this partially . We also had the opportunity to visit some very old caches , which extremely pleased us . We wish to thank Owner for nurture and cherish the caches .
this was one of my goals for today, sorted the two nearby caches then started to look on the GPS for this one - obviously I have not mastered pocket queries yet - somehow I did not load this one onto the GPS. A few colourful words may have slipped out when I realised. Back to the car on the off chance that one of the cell phones may have it showing - phew - yes one did. So back along the track and we started looking, the cell phone was as good as useless so with the help of the hint we searched. GK soon made the find tftc
What a beautiful place back here. Although not the best for GPS reception. But all went well in the end and I could find the letterbox.
Thank you very much for leading me here!

Thank you for bringing us here, what a great natural feature. Finding the cache was a bit of a bush bash and the clue essential. TFTC
Yeah ! It's leap year day and we are setting ourselves a personal challenge. To date we have only ever found 3 distinct cache types in a day. Today we aim to smash that and Ttis is the first cache to get us there.
We headed up to the letterbox at the resurgence today. GPS was a little unpredictable but eventually we got it !
Thanks Biggles for this unusual cache. You get a favourite for helping us get there.

A nice shaded bushwalk on a hot sunny day was just what we needed. The GPS was abit off but we found the cache eventually looking at multiple hints locations. We took the TB in it. Thanks for the letterbox cache
Coordinates were good and the geotrail was helpful too. What a delightful walk to the Resurgence this is, thanks BigglesNZ.
Nice to re-visit the area, had to check a few hint items before I found the right one.

What a wonderful place this is .
Fortunately we were not disturbed by any mugglers, as we came to the GZ. We had to search for several minutes, before we succeeded finding the box. The hint helped us a lot .
Thanks for the cache and for leading us to this nice place. A favourite point from us [^].

Ahh what awesome caches I have seen on my travels this week , from fake logs, to mint tins stuck to posts, to nanos under benches to awesome tree climbing cache hides, his week has been an awesome time to check out the new caches and of course old!! It was great to see all the different places too, like nelson, and greytown, and Blenheim of course!! Then there was the small tiny areas, where we stopped to see earthquake museums, with of course the ''rural' caches as I like to call them. then of course there was the significance of stop offs; like the bulla swing bridge, where I went, saw and conquered there and back twice, while dad stooof o the comfort of the flat grass, smiling, waving and taking pictures Funny, but the best part about that bridge was when the people who worked there, started to come across when I was I was about half way going back ,so they had to get past, so they tilted the bridge sideways, onto its side, so then I could get past, it was pretty scary, but awesome too!! Then the bridge bounced and went side to side and swung it was really awesome! Then as they walked to the other side they were jumping and swinging from side to side, it was great fun!!:)
But anyway the caches I encoun tered on my trip were rreally good, each one was different in some way, including popmacs mint trail series in the north island, which was a really neat idea!!
Anyway, I would like to say thanks tov all the great cache owners who took their time to place all these caches Thank you and well yeah TFTCs all round

A day trip to Nelson with my caching daughter nightowl19 and to boost her, and my, South Island cache finds. The day was 'planned' around the earthcaches at the top, and bottom, of Riwaka hill and entailed few inevitable stop offs, park and grabs, small walks etc, you get the picture. In the end we grabbed just over 20 caches and I moved closer, but not yet at, my target of 3000 finds (that will be done tomorrow)
Had a great day including a swim in the sea at high tide at Tahunanui, seeing the Riwaka resurgence and a fish and chip supper on Nelson waterfront, getting 'home' at 9.30 (for the second night in a row).
Temperatures today ended up reaching the magical 30 degree mark, too hot for some caches in the end so the plan was reduced a little bit.
A small 'diversion' on the way through Richmond to try and find ten normal (not Premium member) Traditional caches, as was the intention for most of todays finds as nightowl19 isn't a Premium member.....yet
Having turned round at the previous Earthcache at the top of the hill we decided to try for this other one and grab this L B hybrid whilst in the area. There was no sign of the stamp or pad but all O K apart from that
