This town feels very strange, so many iterations. Some of these have been very dark.TFTC
Day two of the road trip to Coober PedyGot away quite early, for me, from Port Augusta but due to a slight fuelling mistake only found three caches before fuelling at Pimba then checking in at Woomera. Got up to Andamooka for the AdLab there and all the nearby physical caches before heading back to Woomera for the two AdLabs there. A nice number of mainly traditionals were found on the way and this was one of the ones I wanted.Another quick find in an interesting town. We were lucky that it was tuesday and we could partake of an excellent pizza from the RSL club. Thanks to Liz and Bruce for adding to the playing field with this cache.Smilie #15129.*This log composed and published using GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife).*
Day 2 of our 5day trip to Coober Pedy. This is a fun trip for SA Sewer Rats and ttrogg. We quickly located the cache.Stamped the log and replaced as found.Tftc
A nice walk at sunrise led to a quick find. Thanks for the beautiful start to the day!
Not much in this street now, thats for sure. Thanks for bringing me here. Ive enjoyed checking out Woomera.
Love and be here for a walk first thing in the morning to check out this amazing town. Its a very interesting town
Found while heading north having a couple of days exploring the area here. Could see where streets were. TFTC
OCW PelDroedGwin and geodog Peppa. Woomera is a fascinating location, Ive really enjoyed our time here. Id like to have seen pictures of this area when it was housing. Tftc
Dropped in the visit Bruce alas we were a little late. Amazing that this was residential in the past. Tftc
Im in SA for a work trip and decided to grab a couple while out and about. Travelling between Adelaide, Woomera, port Augusta and Roxby Downs. Plenty to see. Ill be back next year for the Great Leap Forward event. Looking forward to that. Many thanks to Liz and Bruce for placing and maintaining Gogarrah Street. I found it, I signed it, and put it back as found.
Not the nicest of adventures in the heat with all the flies. Certainly not much evidence of homes here now. TFTC
Day 20 of our greynomad trip up north and after a the JLWEvents, a tour of Maralinga and caching to claim LGAs in the Eyre Peninsula, we are attempting to escape the southern weather that has been wet and windy. Did I mention wind, boy it is blowing today sufficiently enough that it is knocking me off balance, which is no mean feat.
We have cached here before, so after seeking required answers for the AdLabs, it was out and around town to collect the remaining trads before looking for a store collect a couple of essentials. Interesting around GZ with some more recent earthworks - I wonder if they are going to put more housing.
TFTC SL TB's visited.

A trip to Perth checking out some of the awesome places along the way in ACT, NSW, Qld and NT. Grabbing some old caches and missing LGAs. TFTC.
Nice quick find.
Nice quick find.
Really quite sad to see this side of town and how much has been removed in the way of streets and houses. I've spent a lot of time up here in a previous life when it was much different.
As I 'drove' the street to GZ, the hiding spot became apparent on approach and I soon had my hands on the container. I etched my name in the log, tucked the container back and that was it for me this afternoon. Sadly not enough light to head to the caves and I won't have time tomorrow. DOH.
Cheers Liz & Bruce and thanks to Gumby_37 for maintaining.

Up early to do a day trip to Woomera with iluvtrekking. Very gusty and chilly . Virtually nothing to indicate there was a community here. My dad was in the barracks during his stint here. Thanks Liz and Bruce
Found with ricklink as part of our 2022 South Australian Adventure.
Such an interesting place Bruce. TFTC.

Where once families were raised, children played there is nothing but rocks, sand, small ground foliage, emu and kangaroo tracks.
It is hard to believe that this area was once laid out with streets, curbs and houses.
The old metal handrails over culverts, water access ground points are all that's left.
Thanks Liz n Bruce for leading us to the site of your old home.

Sir_spectre and I went on a long overdue holiday to the Northern Territory. We had some great experiences and saw some amazing natural wonders. Not all went to plan - covid closures, flood effected roads, renovations, hot weather, some car troubles and not forgetting the huge jump in fuel costs
Any caches that needed repairs were fixed and numeous logs were replaced or added too.
Thanks to Liz and Bruce from mogni

Going to take your word that a house was here, all there is now is a tree and a road plus a cache. quick find.
After getting a room at Pimba because the caravan park at woomera was closed for a wedding, we decided to come up to woomera and do some night caching and also have dinner at the arboretum.
Mogni and myself went to the Northern Territory for a 10 day holiday. We drove 5478 km's in those 10 days. The plan was to go up the Sturt highway and then go via Ayers Rock, King's Canyon and then through to Alice Springs stopping at the gorges/chasm/gaps along the way. As you can expect nothing goes to plan. Day 1 Adelaide to Cooper Pedy, made it just before the Roxby Downs turn off and blow the side wall on the tire of the 4x4, 193 km detour just to get a tire and even then it was the second tire place that had the tire the correct size. We had camels come in to the campsite in Erldunda Roadhouse, they even left hoof prints 1/2 a foot from the tent, at King's Canyon we had dingo's come through the camp ground both nights we where there and at Alice springs we had a mouse move in under the tent in their campground. Some of the aboriginal towns we passed where in lock down because of covid 19 so no going in to get fuel there, that changed some plans. The floods where way worse up in Northern Territory than i realized. Some creeks/rivers i could see the debris over 2 meters from the river bed and down one 4x4 track it washed the road away completely, the hole was 3/4 the length of the 4x4 and over 6 foot deep. The temp was 33 to 36 for 9 of the 10 days and finally cooled down for the drive home. We got 7 different caches types in the N.T. plus every different cache size. It was a good trip but not the one we planned. To many of the roads in the N.T. where damaged and not repaired ( still closed ) so that cancelled plan A but that's just a excuse to come back isn't it. Come back and see what you missed last time when the roads are fixed. We came with 19 regular " geocaching size " containers and a milk crate of small containers by day 7 all the regulars where used as replaced caches and by day 8 the smalls where gone. It was the UV rays a lot more than the floods that killed the caches and almost all the log books where saved, the micro containers seemed to have constantly full log sheets so they where replaced too.

Drove out to Woomera today and collected caches along the way. I was born at Woomera Base Hospital (now gone) and my pop is laid to rest out there in the red dirt Had a fun day out and took heaps of pics for my research project and went down memory lane.

Alice Springs to Adelaide Roadtrip
Day Five: Woomera to Morgan
The weather remains way cooler than around the red centre, much more conducive to travelling and geocaching. Morgan might seem like a strange choice for the last night, but I have my reasons!
I gre up on several RAF bases, I’d love to revisit the one in Germany but there’s just too much red tape (it’s NATO now).

Then WA then back to Cairns June 2022. 25 October 2021 11:45 am Tyfc Liz and Bruce (maintenance by Gumby 37) total caches now 2945
After traipsing around Western Queensland for 4 1/2 weeks then having to head to Northern Territory to try and get back home that way due to border closures.
I had one of my many permits that I applied for over the course of the last week and I made the NT, SA at 6am and headed straight to Woomera after doing about 830kms.
Settled in at the caravan park had a few beers and some tea.
Got up early hooked up the van and spent the early morning finding all of the caches in Woomera.
Definitely not much left here to say that this was a thriving community except for some trees and drains not sure where the roads were.
An interesting place to drive around.
Thanks Liz and Bruce & Gumby 37 TFTC.

This would have been a busy area in its day.
Thanks for placing for all to enjoy. No roads any more but the animal trail lead is to a quick find.

TFTC. Been visiting Woomera with dad as the family lived here in 1965-8. He has friends who were involved in the original setup of the tent city for the building crews. Has been interesting going down memory lane.
Out and about with Purrfect Di and Jack...
Not much of the actual street left, but we still managed to drive around the loop, carefully avoiding some ruts!
Hard to imagine all the homes here and people living in this spot. Thanks Bruce for inviting us in!!!
Thank you Liz and Bruce for another homely yellow smiley on our state geomap
"A cache a day keeps the doctor away" - all part of my 2021 health care plan

2020 won. it's not over yet!
- - search at a social distance wherever you can - -
Keep away from the nasty bugs ( except travel bugs of course )
- keep a distance from people as much as you can, they spread the nasty bugs! [:o)]
- go out and find or place some new caches in our regional areas where it's safer away from bugs!!

Amazing the entire area is flattened, Thanks for the cache and interesting info and history.
Although a little intimidated by the nearby road workers and their voices carrying in the otherwise empty town, we decided to walk over to this one. I found the idea of entire streets being removed really intriguing, but then this whole town really is just such an odd place.

I disturbed a few kangaroos cutting across country to reach this cache once I realised that didn’t need to walk on the roads. A quick find at GZ. Cache in good condition. Tftc
Couldn’t drive as close as I was expecting as the roads are no longer there, still was able to park about 150m from the cache the. It was an easy walk and quick find. Tftc
An interesting ghost town, a detour on a road/street we thought may of existed if the town grew
Today we headed home from woomera to Adelaide, with 5 hours of driving ahead and no restrictions on timing to return home we decided to do some caching along the way.

@Davidwazza and I travelled to the Northern Territory from Adelaide for a 2.5 weeks road trip holiday in the infamous black jeep. We took a route through Port Augusta, Woomera, Roxby Downs, Andamooka, and then drove the Oodnadatta Track via Coward Springs, William Creek (including a Lake Eyre scenic flight), Oodnadatta, and Marla. It was then onwards to visit Uluru (Ayers Rock), Kata Tju?a (Olgas), Kings Canyon, and then drove the Red Centre Way aka. Mereenie Loop Road to see the Tjoritja (West MacDonell Ranges), calling in to see the various highlights. We then stayed a few nights in Alice Springs, and included a day trip to see the East MacDonell Ranges, before heading home in a more direct route through Palm Valley, Owen Springs Reserve, Henbury Craters, and the Lambert Centre of Australia, and finally Coober Pedy.
Today, we started our outback trip travelling from Adelaide to Roxby Downs via Port Augusta and Woomera. We attended the event in Port Augusta, and from there, we made a few stops off the main highway, and then spent a few hours checking out Woomera. Its history on its artillery and aircraft display was pretty cool, and a nice collection of older geocaches there also. As it started getting late, we made the final drive up to Roxby Downs where we enjoyed a nice dinner at the pub.

It was then time to turn around to head to South Australia, and in doing so, we visited the Palm Valley, and made the 4WD detour through Owen Springs Reserve (an excellent shortcut that wasn’t too technically difficult), calling into the Henbury Craters, and the Lambert Centre of Australia. Our final stop was Coober Pedy, and we really enjoyed checking out the various dugouts and mines.

We drove up one of Woomera's many busy sidestreets, and luckily scored a park just near GZ. From there, it was a small jog to GZ. It really was quite quiet around here, and I couldn't help but think that this area was/is a planned expansion to this small town? Or maybe the town has just shrunken over the years? So not much going around here these days, except this geocache. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. There was a pretty cool lizard cache guardian protecting the nearby container. Thanks Liz and Bruce for the cache placement, and Gumby 37 for the ongoing maintenance.

Found while we toured a circuit of the Flinders Ranges, Marree, Roxby Downs, Woomera and Port Augusta for the week, mostly touring the backroads and visiting many scenic and interesting locations. Thanks for the cache Liz and Bruce, and Gumby 37 for maintenance!
We've been wanting to drive the Strzelecki Track for a long time so a window of opportunity came up and we were out the gate!! We travelled up the Birdsville Track and down from Innamincka. Had a great time caching and admiring many views of the outback. The only casualty was the windscreen which had a close encounter with a rock on day 3. Got told in Birdsville that it wasn't bad enough to freight another up. Luckily it made it all the way home with the help of duct tape. We found some great views and historical places thanks to geocaching.

We had headed off on an outback adventure but unfortunately it was cut short with Mrs Just a Trifle having to return home to attend to her elderly mother. We were quite rushed and only managed a few quick stops here and there to stretch the legs and search for a cache or two.
This was one of the caches we decided to stop at to try our luck. We had no difficulty in locating the cache and with our name added to the log book, we continued on our way.
Thank you Liz and Bruce for placing the cache and for maintaining it for everyone to enjoy
