WA Big Trip Winter 2024. Day 12 - Port Lincoln to Elliston via several small roadside spots. After my travels down the east side of the Eyre Peninsula showed me more and bigger towns than I expected, on todays travels up the west side of the peninsula, there were a few settlements, but they were all very small and it is much windier on this side. Elliston where I stayed the night at the golf course RV park, was smaller than any of the other regional council towns I have visited, but they did have a nice pug where I had dinner. The days caching was pretty much all roadside caching until the end with some of the Elliston caches being out on coastal cliffs and the jetty. Things are getting more outback every day now.Today was mostly roadside stops where I squeezed the van onto the edge of the road or a parking bay and walked the remaining distance to the cache. Found with no issues today. Thanks for the cache wheres_wolly_sharon46671.1 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & 5th Birthday A#180**Albida**

A little more challenging than I thought I would say how but that could give it away tftc
This weekend, I joined gridge98 on a trip to Eyre Peninsula, primarily visiting Port Lincoln and its surroundings. We saw its famous marina full of trawlers, and we also ended up visiting Coffin Bay and enjoyed fresh oysters. A nice weekend with weather, and certainly a great vicinity to see.
After having a successful day yesterday, we awoke with motivation and optimism for the day that was ahead of us. However after having our first geocache find, a rock had hit the vehicle's oil sump, leaving the car inoperable and requiring the car to be towed to a mechanic in Port Lincoln. The morning was then spent addressing the vehicle's repair plan, and then trying to salvage the remainder of our weekend's plans. We walked around the centre of Port Lincoln, before finding a hire vehicle for us, and then the afternoon was spent driving around the area. It was interesting seeing Port Lincoln's marinas and also caught glimpse of the shark cages. We ended up drowning our sorrows in the evening (whilst celebrating gridge98's birthday) at the craft brewery, which was probably a highlight of the day.
A quick find at this location. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks wheres wolly for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

Quick find here, cache is all good
Well what a day it was, a day filled with more downs than ups and but overall a few caches were found in and around port Lincoln. Davidwazza and I headed to the Eyre Peninsula for a weekend away to clean up as much as we could and collect a few new LGAs for Davidwazza. This morning 2nd cache in we ended up cracking the oil sump in the car and having to sort out what to do and how to fix the issue. Lucky a mechanic was at hand and a prolonged trip was soon scheduled and a hire car was in hand. I guess things happen when you use a car for things that it’s not made to do.
Other than that a great day out.
Thanks for the cache

A better weather day in Port Lincoln while visiting relatives we could spend a few hours seeking a few more of these elusive hides.
Unfortunately some were abandoned, no longer there, destroyed or removed with no maintenance performed. Many by this owner of caches.
This was a quick find for us after finding a suitable place to leave the geo-mobile.

From Port Lincoln we drove on to Elliston today. Wow! There it has quite great beaches and many beautiful coastal sections. In many of these places we were also able to find a geocache. Thank you to the owners for the caches !
So an event or two got put on in an area that I have not cached, so a weekend trip was organised. Aussie M & M joined geodog Chloe and me for the fun yet exhausting trip. left Adelaide early Saturday mornng and I got home about 12:30 Tuesday morning...

Found while visiting the PL area for a while. An easy find I hope the weather holds for a little longer. TFTC.
CPwanderer, GoodLook and I headed off for a weekend in Port Lincoln via an overnight stop in Whyalla
Our weekend was unexpectedly extended by a day due to illness and so my tally at the end of the 'weekend' was 168 cache finds
Sadly this was marred by a massive 28 DNFs
Port Lincoln, despite being virgin caching territory for all 3 of us, did not provide us with the pleasure that we had anticipated
So many of the caches were bison tubes and those that we did find, quite often were in places where a larger cache could have been hidden The other issue was the lack of maintenance on many caches
There are people trying their best to maintain the 'wheres wolly' cache hides however their resources are stretched thinly..... so if you are heading over, please pack heaps of cache maintenance containers, bags and log books and help out where you can. [^]
That being said, the trip was still a blast and some great caches were found and great views were seen!
Roaming Wendy very kindly came out with us for the rest of today and as a result, our find count increased as did the laughter in the car
Thank you for your company [^]
No Formula 1 here today... only some slow old cachers

Easily found as we wandered around Pt Lincoln!!
This was one of the caches found on a three day odyssey on the Eyre Peninsula! Myself, GoodLook and locuscache had never cached south of the Cowell/Cleve area so we had high hopes of some great caching. We worked our way down through Port Neil and Tumby Bay and grabbed those along the highway plus a few a little further afield.
Our time in and around Port Lincoln was frustrating. Lots very small micros, lots of very rusty tins and more dnfs than ive ever had in a day before this. We were very fortunate that local cacher , Roaming Wendy joined as. Her expert knowledge of the town certainly helped. A medical issue had us stay a third day. This worked out very well as we could do some relaxed caching on our way home.
A special thanks to Roaming wendy for her help and to those who hid caches in the area … particularly the Geo-Ambos, Wheres Wolly and Viper231. Special thanks also to my “mildly obsessive” caching buddies on this trip …………………………… amazing fun!!

Woo hoo, we found it!
After messaging Roaming Wendy, she graciously joined us and jumped in our car in order to cache around Lincoln with us (as we'd not been having much fun with all of the DNFs).
Found whilst on a road trip with CPwanderer and Locus Cache, with the aim of the weekend to cache in and around Port Lincoln - fresh territory for us all. We certainly had a great time, however with a DNF rate of about 40% [:(!], it was tough going! We did however thoroughly enjoy the beautiful locations and scenery.
After joking all day on the Sunday we should spend another night in Pt Lincoln, circumstances presented that meant we needed to extend our time away! We took it slowly on the way home which enabled us to once again visit some terrific places
Thanks for the cache

Found at 10:26 AM GAFF2 in the company of maccamob. We signed the log book as "M&P".
Cache must have been replaced since Muzza had a DNF - it was an easy find right where we expected to find it.
Thanks wheres wolly.

Found by Mary & David, in company with pprass (signed as m & p), at 1025. Stayed at Port Lincoln last night. Today, we cached our way across to Coffrin Bay for an oyster lunch, then cached our way back to Port Lincoln again. Managed to avoid the worst of the weather. Heading to Coffin Bay for lunch. Found quickly in the first spot we checked. Our thanks to wheres wolly.
I had a look for this one but I couldn't find it today. I thought I knew where it was going to be, but it wasn't in the typical location for one of these. I checked around for other possible hiding spots but alas, nothing was there. I hope it's still there. My thanks to wheres wolly for placing it.

Definitely a good stretch of road for all local lads here !!
It is all down hill to towne.
Even a Holden or Ford could get up to a 100 km/h or slighty more on this stretch of road
I cruised up the hill today at a very sedate 70 km/h or so to reach GZ in one piece
