I drove some roads that I really didnt enjoy as I was desperate to find this cache with the abandoned structure attribute for a challenge cache the is almost complete. Give me city driving any day! I hadnt downloaded an offline list and found I didnt have reception when I reached Brandons Mill. Luckily my car navigation gave me a general idea and the cache was located exactly as the hint said. The log was signed and everything returned as found. TFTC and a fav point for providing me with that attribute

Found as we wandered around. Thanks for placing a cache here as we love hides like this, taking us to interesting places we would have otherwise never found if it wasn’t for Geocaching. On the hunting trail again with SeasonedBird (aka Mrs Geo, Salty Chook, the Old Boiler, Old Chook, Dirty Bird, Angry Bird & occasionally even Love Bird). It’s a great day for caching.

Having enjoyed a country caching drive nearby my youngest and I decided to keep going to explore Brandon's Mill. We spent quite a bit of time exploring what was left of the mill before we began searching for the cache. The recent rain had made the plant life go mad, and there was initially no sign of anything matching the hint, but following the numbers and battling the long grass and weeds I spotted a likely something and soon had the container in hand. Tftc and for bringing us here to this spot; we love historical caches. Take a Favourite point for your collection Big Grin

We had no intention of finding this geocache today. KbreeAHH wanted to take her shiny new 4WD out for an offroad spin. A red Triton - just like a red rocket I bet has been here before! Once we'd navigated the unremarkable tracks of Mt. Mee and D'Aguilar National Park, we headed farther north and I mooted the idea of finding the geocache on Beacon Hill. From a lunch break in Woodford, we headed off to find access to the area.

In that planning, I noted this geocache a few kilometres north. Yeah, nah, we figured it'd be too far to 4WD today. But we evidently got here, and it was due entirely to my error. having left Beacon Hill, I was in the driver's seat and upon getting to the bottom of Beacon Road and rejoining Brandons Road, I turned left and headed north. I thought we were heading south, but I was evidently having a bit of a moment.

And so we trundled along until Kab noticed we weren't going the right direction. Guess we'll find a place to turn around. That next opportunity was just after a sign indicating Brandons Mill. Hm, that name rings a bell. Sure enough, there's a geocache here! Either way, we'd have a look about but may as well grab the geocache too!

The whole Bellthorpe National Park is hugely green and no exception here. The grass and weeds were overgrown at GZ, but with some poking about, I evicted any potential inhabitants and could looks methodically around the (I am guessing) driveshaft here for the geocache. happy days!

Meanwhile, Kab checked out the structures and I would catch up and join here for a few moments before we got back in the car, pointed the right direction and blasted towards home. What a fascinating place to visit and a little bit of history. Thank you for this geocache, jasenjanine Smile

Out for a Freaky Friday with teamdfl Big Grin Our original idea was kayaking at Bribie Island, but the threat of 40kph winds shelved that! Happily we both had plenty to find between Glasshouse Mountains and Bellthorpe so met up at North Lakes and travelled on in one car. First job was an AL, now we meandering along westwards using caches to guide us...

After our adventure getting to Beacon Hill Bounty, we made our way northwards again to continue on to this cache. Despite the 4 magpies that kept flying around, I was fascinated by the history here. It is great to see so many relics. teamdfl made the find. TFTC, jasenjanine. Have a favourite point for the history lesson Big Grin

21-Aug-20
Having made it to Beacon Hill we knew that this one would pose not problems at all. Well the magpies at GZ made us a little nervous, especially considering I was still healing from a strike two days ago. Mr Maggie was less attentive once we moved from GZ, so we were able to have a good look around the old machinery. As soon as I got food out the magpies and butcher birds all wanted to be our best friends, Cool

We checked the wrong spot first, but soon spied the right spot. Another awesome spot for a cache, so another favourite point. [^]

Heading home from Kilcoy today and after all the years off looking at the two caches in the hills I decided to detour and have some fun. Smile

The heavens were wrapping the top of the hills nicely as I ascended towards Beacon Road as I was going to head out to the lookout. Sadly after turning onto Becon rd and travelling about a kilometer I found that the recent rain and low visibility made it a bit more interesting than I wanted, so turned around and headed for this one. After all I can always come back.Wink

The main road was pretty good and eventually the visibility cleared and I soon arrived at this one.

I wandered over to GZ for a quick find and after signing the log returned all as found.

I ended up spending some time there checking out the history and then after morning tea headed off.

On the way out I spoke with a Ranger and he mentioned the Beacon road was a dit dodgy today.

Great to get back into these hill that I haven't been to in over 20 years.

Wednesday. Couldn’t believe what we came across all the way out here today! Pulled over for a look-see and got to watch the mower men clear up the whole area just for us Big Grin Luckily they were too, as the bits of grass left showed that we would have been walking in up to our waists in long grass. We didn’t realise there was a cache here as we didn’t have any phone reception, but about 3km down the road, managed to get a second’s worth of reception and Mr SP spun the car around and we headed back to this amazing out of the way spot. Couldn’t believe its been so long between finds and so we gained a fair bit of unloved on this cache as we signed the new and empty replacement log. Absolutely fantastic hidey spot. The mower man had even mowed right up to the spot but you would never have known the container was there, so it is very safe in this spot!

This was the 7th of 7 caches found on this outing.

Thanks jasenjanine for bringing us here Razz

A huge thanks goes to dickbev for checking on and replacing the cache at this historic location. The container is now a short 90mm pvc one, and has been move slightly to a safer location as the original hiding spot had deteriorated and was not able to conceal the cache any longer.
Happy hunting Big Grin

dickbev have kindly checked up on this one, and it seems to be missing. The hiding spot also looks as though it has deteriorated over the time, so we are looking to relocate the cache a short distance away. Stay tuned Smile

After an amazing geocaching holiday with my geohubby WallabyTim, we were making our way home from Plainland to Noosa the back way via Kilcoy. The original plan was to head straight home but the allure of caches was too strong. We were so pleased to take this detour on the way home. It was a wet, foggy winter's day so the scenery was magical, eerie almost with so few people around. Thank you for placing a cache at this historical spot. A favourite point from me <3

Dora the Explorer! and I had decided to go to Kilcoy today to grab some caches however on the way, we decided to take a diversion and grab a couple of caches in this area.

I had tried to get this cache previously however had approached it from Aherns Road and the GPS was trying to navigate to the cache through paddocks and locked gates so the mission as abandoned.

Dora the Explorer! had been here before so she navigated and I drove her 4WD vehicle. The last few days had been quite rainy and as such the road was quite slippery and was a challenge in itself however we made it to GZ without incident.

There is a lot of history in this area.

The cache was found and the log signed and the cache returned as found.

All is good with this cache.

Left a trackable.

Grabbed a few caches from the region surrounding Woodford today while in the area for an event at the festival. After a lovely winding drive up through Bellthorpe (wow they've done some great work on the retaining walls here) and along the forest track, the mill site came into view.

Nice to see some preservation of the old gear here. Took some snaps before finding the container after a short search.

After a beautiful drive through Bellthorpe Forest we arrived at Brandons Mill, I opened the door and two butcher birds landed on top of it before I even managed to get out of the car. They stayed with us all the time we were at the mill and shared our food with us which was only salt and vinegar crisps and chocolate digestives but they didn't seem to mind. Cache found all in good condition. This is the type of cache we enjoy being far away from the hustle and bustle of civilization - so gets a favourite point from us. Out today with Fairy Mother on a trip from Widgee to Kilcoy, via Wratten State Forest, to find those unloved caches along the Murgon Kilcoy Rd.

Did not get there.
Around the RH corner past the last mailbox, a SQUEEL from Fairy Mother, I looked up, OH $-it, by then we were at the first speed bump, at least somewhere to rest and gather one's thoughts and access the situation. I have taken my trustie geoute to some very inhospitable places.
BUT that hill???
Nothing for it, a slow reverse to the small layby at the corner, and off to the next cache.

This one id definitely 4 x 4 only.

We had been planning our day exploring this area for a week or so now, and after climbing Mt Coochin this morning, we were happy to be sitting in the air conditioned car touring the area Smile
The views as we drove along we gorgeous. Can't believe we live so close but have never bothered to come in and see these parts Red Face
We could see smoke in the NP as we started the drive in and soon realised the fireies we doing some burn offs nearby.
As we approached GZ, we had to explore the area before looking for the cache. We had some little maggies approach us that were extremely friendly Smile
After a look around, Mr Parko and I found the cache quickly but were saddened to see someone had added mints and a jelly cup to the container Sad
Ants had taken up residence, so we removed the food and cleaned it out and added a new baggie, as it was quite sticky thanks to the mints.
Thanks jasenjanine for bringing us up here, if it wasn't for this cache, I don't think we would have ventured in here. A fave point for sure Big Grin

A weekend of camping and 4wding in this area and we stumbled across this interesting area. We half suspected there might be a geocache here, but as we had not set out looking for one, we didn't know...drove up the road to get reception and saw we were so close! So we turned around and went right back to make a nice easy find (even though the cache location is NOT an incinerator, it sort of looks a little like one...if you squint... ) : ) Anyway, an interesting rest stop and on our way through. Also marked my Husband's birthday and he was very patient looking for this, especially seeing as we were heading to the pub for a birthday drink and lunch! TFTC.

Because the weather is hot and dry decided to do the four down this way today. Left home at 0800 at arrived at this GZ at 1045. After finding the nearby Beacon Hill Bounty drove back out to the main road and turned left and noticed it was only approximately 5klm to this one. 3/4 so far. Good road.

Arrived at GZ and quickly had the cache in hand. A good little bit of history in this spot. Now to drive in towards Woodford for Woodfordia. TNLNSL TFTC
