A little day to ourselves in Whakatane found us the perfect opportunity to explore this neck of the woods! A great day trekking along the Nga Tapuwae o Toi track with some spectacular views, whilst picking up these caches at the same time. A fun Greek lesson at the same time!
A quick find, signed the log and admired the view of Whale Island. Thanks for the hide!

[green]. Okay, this is annoying. I did not find the cache, but after reading the cache description now, as I write this log, I remember seeing it. Grrr...
A trip from Rotorua to Whakatane (for a Greek Lesson) and then on to Tauranga. Another lovely day on the road and a few caches to boot. Thanks for placing them.
Working back in Whakatane and daylight saving meant I could tackle at least some of this walk - what amazing views thanks for bringing me here. Quick and easy find. TFTC
The water was so very blue today and both whale and white island were in clear view.cache all good thanks
Another good spot for a rest and drink. A couple of runners went by while we were stopped.
Many thanks

Was in Whakatane for the long weekend with the family and mother in law. Decided to get up early and do the TGC walk while the rest of the house was still fast asleep. Did the required reading the night before and headed out as the sun started rising to commence the walk. Did not have too many troubles finding the caches I looked for. Only problem was I misjudged the length of the walk and the caches I was going to do on the way back I had to skip as need to be home by 10am. TFTC and for getting me out into the bush again! Really enjoyed the walk even though it did make me realise I am not as fit as I thought I was
A great view of Whale Island. GPS said GZ was at the bottom of the stairs. Eventually spied a jagged leafed tree. Sure enough there was the cache.

Good descriptions and hints, easy to find, excellent weather, caching is fun. Thanks CO
Found ok, but the string is getting old, I don't think it has much life left in it.If it falls it will move up in the difficulty rating. I didn't have any string with me, so couldn't do the necessary repairs.
We do a part of the Kohi Point Walkway today. It's very windy, sunny and warm. Easy found.
We do enjoy the walk and the views very much. A favo from me
Thanks CO

We liked the way it was hidden. Good descriptions and hints!
CO thanks.

I am always amazed at how little muggles notice what geocachers are doing... another cache found, signed and replaced without anyone noticing. t4tc
0005 GAFF3 Went past and came back to it. While the coordinates were goo I was looking elsewhere until I read the Hint and some of the logs. Dry and intact, but the plastic bag is torn - the pencil does NOT go into the plastic bag - PLEASE! TNLN

I knew I had walked past this cache a few times, with from a cursory look, to a more intensive one, but today I finally found it. Needs a new ziploc bag, and just had a sandwich bag, which still had some food remnants in it.

Fifth cache of many that I sought today on the Nga Tapuwae o Toi (in the footsteps of Toi) track. I am sure the hint was excellent but the cache eluded my eyesight. After spending my regulation 10 minutes searching I thought I had better move on. Too many caches, not enough time and the tide was coming in.
We didn't find this, but were not aware of the red writing in the text. This would have got us to the correct tree. We searched in a number of trees but didn't stumble across it.
Always amazes us how something so obvious can be so well hidden! We replaced the log with a fresh one but we unfortunately didn't have a spare pencil on us that was small enough.
Out for the day with Squirrel Nutcase for an assault on Geckoh territory. Stunning view of Whale Island.
Thanks Geckoh.
Thanks Geckoh.
Teamed up with Spiderhouse to try and knock off a few more Eastern Bay caches. The weather held long enough for us to launch our assault...
On a mission to find the TGC caches. We found the tree with the long, jagged leaves, but took a moment to register the cache. This was tricky trying to extract a very tatty log. No problems getting our names into the logbook, but we suspect that this may need fixing soon. TFTC and the views of Whale Island.

The GPS was still pointing 10m away but the name of the cache suggested we start looking and behold a cache, in the first spot checked.

Took me a long time to find this one. I was searching everything I could find that could hang something (there seemed to be plenty of options!) In the end I fluked a find as I searched a possibility 6-8 meters from my coordinates. Log is damp and could do with some maintenance. Sorry, I am travelling light and no swag with me to help out. Headed out early for a epic days caching, 12 hours and 52 caches, not to sure about the other stats about the day, but I've definitely deserved a beer.
Missed this one last time I came through here. Ended up that the GPS was pointing me in the wrong place. Used the hint and found another similar item nearby with the cache sitting where it should be. Nice to get this one knocked off the list.

Kiwi69 and I decieded that this was our challenge, so made an early start for Whakatane from home. It's The day is a warm one. Glad to have filled the gap. Each time we round a corner we are greated by even more amazing views
Some great views along the coast and back to Whakatane well worth the early start

Out & about caching in Whakatane with C&D, with Toi's circuit as our main objective for the day. Yet more amazing views - what a great spot. TFTC
A fairly quick find, although the cache was lodged in a fork of the tree, where we were worried it might fall down the steep bank and disappear forever. We were tying it on when more muggles stopped beside us and asked if we were W.E.K.A. It was nice to meet karma reprint from Christchurch, who knew from the logs that we were ahead of them, somewhere. We continued on along the walkway together. TFTC
Day 3 of the trip home to Christchurch, Whakatane to Te Araroa. Caught up with the WEKA team, and from here we cached together till the end of the trail. Thanks for the hide
Thankyou Geckoh for all those Caches we picked up of yours today, very good walk from "Westend to Hillcrest.TFTC
Found by my daughter who climbed the tree and hugged it and ripped it out of the tree! So we had to tie the string around the middle of the container but is hanging again okay. Met fellow geocacher Blenheim bear. TFTC
What a beautiful spring day for a walk along the Toi track! Spring is definitely here.
A weekend in Whakatane was the perfect time to tackle this series.
Thanks for placing the caches along this trail, with (in our opinion) very accurate coordinates and difficulty/terrain ratings.
This was a nice hide. Loved the location. Thanks.

Mrs L's eyes proved sharper than Mr L's on this occasion. Rested a while enjoying the view while the log sheet dried for a while in the afternoon sun.
our 800th find!

Had a good look around. No luck, will have to come back another day to have a look. Great views from here so will be looking forward to coming back.
As far as we got on the track today. Log was wet- wasn't carrying a replacement sorry. TFTC
Didn't take long to locate this one. Great views on a lovely morning. Left a pet rock - a lady bug. TFTC
Had seen this type of cache earlier. Tree hugging necessary indeed.
Log sheet is wet, tried to dry plastic bag that seemed to have some water in. Observed some holes and think it probably needs replacement, sorry didn't have any with me.

Found this one as part of Bjarni1 and my annual road trip around the Bay of Plenty. Whakatane is our favourite place on the cape so a reason to take a walk and see the best views around was easy to find with geocaching around. The weather was amazing and ended up getting a little too hot in the end. Cache was quickly in hand with the use of the hint.
Cheers

Nice view of the bay. I guess with a little imagination the island could look like a whale . TFTC

Nice & Sneaky hide - I will 'borrow' the idea for my next Wellington cache hide TFTC Felix!
Tricky one to get at this- cool view from here - the way we did the walk meant we had to keep turning round to look
Cache all good.

Took a while to to find this one. Didn't read the discription about the jagged edge leaves. TFTC
Found the cache fairly quickly. Had to act like we were just hanging around when some muggles came up the steps. Great view from here!

Spent a lovely morning ducking in and out of rain showers, around tree trunks, foliage, viewpoints, Maori Pa's, mud puddles & generally having a great time. And we saw a lot of geckohs! Thank you Team Geckoh for all your efforts.
We were in Whakatane on a lovely sunny day & ideal weather to do the TGC challenge. This cachhe took a little time to find as it does help when you read all the clues!! Now onto the next cache in the TGC challenge.
Finally found this after having a quick look each time I've run the track....nothing like a single beam of light to highlight a cache for these old eyes.
Nice rewarewa tree and great day with great views.
Should be ebjoyed by anyone fit enough, as it was on my vist with about 50 primary school kids going through to Ohope.

Nice quick find. Really enjoyed the early morning walk. Good views today although with the recent storm the water was pretty brown! SL TFTC
#2156 Really enjoyed the walk up the ridge but spent five minutes with my head in the wrong bush until my GPS settled down and pointed me to the right one. Nice hide. TFTC DS8300
Just the one whale in view today, views over Whakatane and out to sea where very bright and clear.
Pleasant but hot walk out to cache this morning before a very yummy bbq lunch - thanks geckoh
