Find #176

Almost a year since I was introduced to Geocaching! What a great way to celebrate than finding caches where it all began! Thank you to all the cache owners who have made this such a fantastic hobby!

I came back today with 2 Geofriends to bag the rest of the caches in this massive cemetery. We enjoyed wandering through, looking at different graves and finding the oldest one we could (105). The cemetery was eerily quiet today, we only saw 4 muggles in the time we were here.

I took "Baked Brie with Sun-Dried Tomatoes", unfortunately I didn't have one on me but here is one of my faves:

Rainbow Marshmallow Fudge

3 cups Milk choc melts
1tsp Vanilla essence
40g unsalted butter, chopped
395g can sweetened condensed milk
100g packet multi-coloured mallow bakes

1. Grease a 20cm square cake pan. Line base and sides with baking paper
2. Place choc melts, vanilla essence, butter and condensed mile in a medium saucepan, Stir over a low heat until mixture is smooth. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature.
3. Stir in mallow bakes. Spread mixture into prepared pan. Cover pan and refrigerate overnight, or until fudge is set.
4. Serve fudge cut into squares

Thanks for the cache Smile

A great spot, I have previously not been in here. TFTC I forgot to bring a recipe so I didn't take one.

06-Mar-14
The gate leading to the area od GZ was certainly different to anything else we had seen. We had to be careful walking to GZ because of the rough ground. From there it took a few minutes of poking and probing before we were able to locate this cache. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks for the cache 42below.

Out and about with Dutch Frangipani to do some more of the Ballarat and Creswick Caches.

This was the first cache of the day and a nice walk to GZ. Quickly had the cache in hand after a nice walk to GZ. Certainly an interesting area and Dutch Frangipani and I decided that she would log a recipe of Death By Chocolate. Just seemed appropriate for the area.

Thanks for the cache 42below

19-Jan-14
First one of the day with Sorceysal - we were here to clean up a few more Ballarat caches. Parked the car and walked a little bit to GZ where we quickly had the cache logged. As promised by Sorceysal I have attached a recipe for Death by Chocolate Cupcakes which I thought were quite fitting for the area.

Second visit and we found it. Have only be GC since yesterday and we dont have a GPS (yet) so it takes some research before heading out in the field.
Very addictive sport. TNLN.

PS. Newberys 500 finds Geocoin was present. I am new to Geocaching and only now had time to look it up what it meant. Will let someone else move it on.

Time for a quick cache and to drop off a coin after the dentist..ugh.
Nice easy find. Sorry didn't have a recipe with me, but here's a cooking tip.
Alternative pizza for those who can't eat tomato, or who just want a change..
Just mix a packet of cup'a'soup up to a spreadable paste with a bit of hot water, I use Potato and Leek, and spread this over your base instead of tomato paste. Add toppings as desired and cook as normal.
Enjoy!
TN Left Newberys 500 finds Geocoin which wants to travel Australia.

We, too, were a New Zealand household with an Edmonds cookbook... in fact if I dig deep enough on my bookshelf I might find one too. Thanks for the cache.

Interesting walk through the Chinese "Settlement" to get to GZ. The neighbours over the fence from GZ were cooking. We don't know if they were using a recipe from your cache or from the Kiwi cookbook Wink

Another trip to Ballarat to grab another mystery and of course attend the Flash Mob Event. This will be the last cache to be found today and being a paperless cacher I had no idea about the theme but Bushfire is no cook so the best thing that I can do is to be sure to rise everyday and enjoy caching for as long as I can. I believe you are a very time dead, so make the most of it while you can.
Took a while to find this guy as the previous hider did a good job of covering it up.
Thanks 42below for another cache hidden.

Day 3 and final day of our Ballarat Smackdown weekend with DazRascal, Blacklegend, Quasar3671 & Trailrunning which seen us collecting a great range of caches over 3 days, and this was one of them.

A short day of caching this morning, we had time for a few more before heading home and this was on our list.
Many thanks for a quick cache here. TNLN SL. Cheers.

25-Mar-12
One of 182 caches I personally found during our "Ballarat Smackdown" trip. The trip included teams Quasar3671, Trailrunning, Haveanez, Dazrascal and myself. Caches included around 30 mystery caches, a few earth caches, lots of trads and multis and both day and night caching. Some 4WD action was encountered as well, which was great. All puzzles within 60kms were solved.

I took three of my kids, Jasmine 7yo, James and Jemma 5yo twins, traveling from Tocumwal. The trip covered 3 days and two nights, staying in Ballarat. Quasar3671 took his two boys as did Haveanez. One of the best caching trips I have been on, and certainly lots and lots of finds, almost clearing out the main Ballarat area. Home base was the Miners Retreat motel, which was quite pleasant and quiet.

This was a find on our Sunday day run, which was only a half day run. Found without trouble, even with the stinky lake nearby. TFTC.

25-Mar-12
One of 184 cache finds during our "Ballarat Smackdown" weekend of caching on the 23rd to 25th. There were 13 of us including Blacklegend and three of his kids, Trailrunning, Haveanez and their two boys, Dazrascal and myself amd my two boys Tyler and Cooper. We'd spent a few weeks planning the trip, with every Ballarat Puzzle solved in the area, cache lists and road and route maps all ready to go. We stayed in the Miners Retreat Motel for the two nights and the accomodation and facilities were great. Our goal was simple - find as many caches as possible in the time we were here !

We found a great variety of caches and hides during the three days, which also involved a bit of walking and some 4WD fun as well in the state forests north of Ballarat. The weather was quite cold of the Friday and Saturday morning but eventually cleared to nice sunny weather Saturday arvo and Sunday. We all had a great time, especially the kids who did really well to keep up with the pace we were moving.

Our third day of caching and it was another big day ahead of us before splitting up early in the afternoon. With some four wheel driving, some essential caches to collect and getting 'lost' in the bush and some tricky caches found, the day turned out to be quite an adventure. With cars loaded with the gear and kids, we checked out of the accommodation and hit the road. Cache found and log signed. Thanks for the hide.

25-Mar-12
We were up to cache 132 at the conclusion of the Saturday of the “Ballarat Cache Smackdown”. Having arrived here on Friday night we had gone hard all weekend. It didn’t stop last night with a few juices being drunk before going to bed. The after effects of this were that we are all a little slow in starting up today. Having packed the cars and checking out of our home base we started our Sunday run with a few caches we missed the night before (the kids really did need to go to bed). The highlight of my morning was straining my left calf muscle running up a 4WD track. That sort of slowed me down for the rest of the day. We had a few must do caches today before splitting up and heading home. This was one of them. Find #140 for the “Smackdown” weekend. We didn't have time to read the recipes. Thanks.

09/10/2011 16:01 Off to Creswick/Ballarat for an awesome hard-core caching weekend with my good mate iamapom (Carl). I am told that the public are allowed into cemeteries 24 hours a day which is probably why it was so simple to enter the doorway near this one by simply lifting the lever from the outside. It was spotted by Carl after a short search. I grabbed it. TFTC 42below TNLN SL

The nearby Chinese section of the cemetery and this lovely little garden made for a very peaceful spot.
I am afraid I didn't have any recipes with me today, but I really enjoyed this place.
