While having my caravan parked up in Matawai I decided to visit some old haunts of mine from back in the mid-to-late 60s. I used to come to Toatoa for work.
Thanks for the memories. The road hasn't changed much in the last 50 years.
Cheers for the cache.

Had a lovely ride today, up the Motu and down the Pakihi track - was pleased to pick up this cache quickly while the other cyclists in the group sat in the shelter nearby. Thanks for the cache.

Early start so it is still nice and cool for the uphill part of the Motu Track. Found this one easy. Thanks
A plan was hatched for a lonely cache adventure and a cluster of cachers soon signed up. After a 4am start we met up with the others and after a brief planning session and caffine top up, we were on our way. We clocked up a few miles and the 4WDs were a handy TOTT to enable easier access to some of the caches (probably why they are so lonely) and both looked well travelled at the end of the day. Continued towards GZ in the 4WDs and once there a quick find TFTC.
THis weekend just back from the OZ Mega 2015 I was once out and about caching with friends. This time it was ROSMAR, 11HPG11, & again Alpenmilch80 who was along for the test driving of her new beastie and trying to get a hang of some back country roads.
Nice drive up the road, roads in excellent condition. Quick find at stop
So again thank you for the FUN of the hunt

Out and about today with 11hpg11, rosmar and Cats&Dragons to find some lonely geochaches (distance & last found) in the area. I was very keen to join when I caught word of the plans to give my new car an off-roading practice run. The end result was a very dirty car and a happy owner. We decided to use our 4WDs to get the Motu Trail geocaches which provided a lot of fun. Had an awesome time out with the crew. TFTC
Another mission, a new area this time. The plan was to do some off-roading and 4x4 caches, plus a few others in the area. Cats&dragons and I set off on Friday night and had an amazing light show of sheet lightning and heavy rain. Our spirits were not dampened though and we made the long slog to Opotiki. We worked out our plan of attack for the next morning and found a few great looking caches to check out. We were meeting up with Rosmar and Alpenmilch80 in the morning before heading to some wild country.
These trails look great.. but I am glad to be travelling in a car today. Would have taken me a lot longer on 2 wheels. Quick find thanks

It is a windy gravel road in here, but fascinating countryside, and disappointing to note that it was over 10 months since last found. Straight forward find. Gets a fav from us. TFTC
Stop on the way up to start of MTB track, had a good look but no luck this time. :-\
Must have been getting tired from all the biking - took far too long to spot this easy hide. What a beautiful valley this is. Biked on to the Toatoa farmstay very close by and enjoyed a very pleasant overnight stay before riding on to the Pakihi track the next day. Thanks Ymana.
The road is all you describe. Just pleased that we stopped to pick some ripe blackberries as two hulking great 4X4s passed us while we were safely parked... TFTC
5.15pm - Thought I would park right besdie it as there was no vehicles on the road, guess what! wrong. SLTFTC
Thought I would try this road out! Some good caches to grab on the way as well. soon had this cache located. SL TFTC

No not much climbing involved............. yeah right.
Took on the 3 Motu rd caches on the trusty Mtb but from the Motu end so slighly more descending than ascending, This one was the biggest distance between caches and the longest climb, I had the back up support of the van with Mrs Geckoh and Breannah following, Breannah had her bike with her too so decided to take on the downhill section that is normally the uphill section of the second hill, anyone who has done that will know it is one of the steepest descents, she only canned off once and grazed up her knee, pretty good effort.
Stats off the Forerunner:
55min36sec
14.41km
15.5km/hr ave
891cal
37.3km/hr max.

A lovely day for a drive. I wanted to see what it would be like to ride should I try. A little bit of climbing required I found.
