Logs
Today we drove from Hanmer Springs to Kaikoura. We enjoyed the different landscapes and stopped to look for one or two caches. They were all in good condition. So we signed our names. Many thanks to all the owners and greetings from the Moorhelmi
another cache to fill in for missing minutes across South Island. Mr10 went for retrieval but couldn't find anything, he was obviously looking at the wrong. Both container and logbook were found in good condition. It was not as it seems and would be the first option. thanks for placing this here! Retrieved a TB.
As with others, I initially looked in the wrong place first, but after reading some of the previous logs, I had another look around and soon had the cache in hand, TFTC
Found! The fresh possum mentioned by previous cachers is no longer... fresh... Great hide ans beautiful spot!
When we didn't find the cache in the obvious spot ( near the hint object) we widened our search but didn't see anything then either. Went back to the logs and spotted a comment in a few so went hunting for that. Spotted what might have been the cache nearby so Andy went in for a closer look and handed me the cache to sign. tftc#7211
I braved the possum and got the cache. Travelling on my own today so a good chance to do some little detours. TFTC
Saw container, but a fresh dead opossum prevented me from reaching it (pee-eewww) Im still counting it! Great spot too!
Found with DeadRockFlower and Reebuck on our way back to Christchurch. That water looks pretty cold, not a day for a swim. Tnlnsl. Tftc!!
Out in the camper with Alijoy a bit late in longing took a bit of finding but we came up with the goods. Thanks for hiding.
Bit of a big day today, I have to do a drivetest on the Kaiteretere South vodafone site, then a highway drive between Motueka and the Spit. But I intend to grab a couple of minute caches for the South Island 300 minutes challenge.
Having been driving for quite awhile, I was well ready to stop and stretch my legs for 10 minutes. I had been here before to looks for this but there was a car parked nearby, looking at the amount of water coming down.... a lot more quieter now... quickly located too.
TFTC Kiwi Moose, the cache was found in good order Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 12 find(s) of 12 today, making this find #3877

Not where you would immediately assume. There is a scary drop at the end of the bridge where a tree has fallen down, but you don't need to go there, luckily.
All safe and dry.

A very nice place to stop and take in the view... loved the sound of the rushing water. Yeah I fell into that trap of thinking I would find the cache in the first obvious place - once I got that sorted, a quick find.
I remember this pretty spot when stopping here with KR in 2012, before I was a cacher. Today I found it dry and as per hint. All signed and returned by the time KR had turned around to pick me up again. Thanks Kiwi Moose.
Don't we just get complacent and go 'oh yes I know where that one will be' but no, it wasn't there. Good hide though thanks.
At last back to find it again. It was in one of the places I looked previously, but not the one I thought it would be. The river was quite flooded, and it was impressive to see the surging rapids. TFTC.
Heading south for a spot of work. Last cache stop for today. Not in the expected place.
Caching around the Amuri Basin. Not where I expected to find this one, still it was a quick find; TFTC
Cool little hiding spot wasn’t gonna check there I was only checking the road barrier
What a stunning rugged river view. Can almost imagine a huge alligator lovely spot and the cache is in good order. TFTC
Nice views from near GZ ..trust the GPS as its not where you may think it is all good thanks kiwi moose
On our several South Island tours we have passed close to this cache but not turned off to find it. Today we have come from the other way so we had to stop for this. The cache was found eventually exactly as per hint but to state with we were looking at the end of the incorrect item. Cache all ok here thanks Kiwi Moose
Beautiful view once again!! Took some photos of the river then went hunting! Thank you!
Another traditional done, missed this one last time we were in the area.....so beautiful and quiet here.
On the way back from Hanmer and since we have the time thought we would pick up some caches on the way. Beautiful and scenic area with an interesting history. Cache was an easy find. Thanks for bringing us here.
Found with my friend who is now going to be geocaching crazy. Lovely blue water by cache.

25 October 2021 13:34. Found by GSEL, as I was panicking about where I had put my phone! Eventually found it in a side pocket in the car door. I must get a non-black case for it to make it easier to spot! TFTC
#10183. Day 6 of the South Island road trip around the top of the South Island (Canterbury and Westland) with Infoferret. This trip was planned to replace the Labour weekend Auckland Mega adventure. We have stayed overnight in Murchison and today are heading to Christchurch. The weather has improved in the morning and by time we reached Canterbury it was like a hot summers day.
I don't know about the Amuri farmers but the lifeblood almost drained out of Infoferret's face when she couldn't find her mobile phone at this spot. I went off to find the cache and was wondering why she was turning the rental car inside out. She looked everywhere (apparently) and was in a big panic thinking she left it on other side of Lewis Pass. I tried phoning it but no response. She used her work phone to call her husband in Wellington to see if he could use an App to locate it. When he came back saying the last cell tower it signalled was at Maruia Springs I think IF had kittens. We were just resigning ourselves to a three hour round trip back to locate the phone when she put her hand in the car passenger door side compartment and there it was. That spot and under her seat where she was sitting were the only places I had not checked while she was on the phone call to her hubby. Mighty relief all around.
In the meantime I had found the cache. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache where found. Thanks Kiwi Moose for hiding it here. Its an attractive spot here with the bridge over the river and the nearby shrubby kowhai bush in flower.

Found sitting out in the open, have put back hopefully in the right place - TFTC
Beautiful view of the river for a quick little park and grab. On our way home back to Hamilton with a stop over at Maruia Hot Springs tonight
This is certainly worth coming to see. It is amazing what is just a short distance from the highway.
Thanks for the hide.
Thanks for the hide.
Couldn't find this one on a visit 18 months ago but this time it was very straight forward. Thanks Kiwi Moose for bringing us to this spectacular place.
Mon 14. Leaving Hanmer, where there were various utes with Amuri Irrigation on the side, so stopped to educate ourselves about the Waiau. Rocky narrows here and the cache at the ideal spot to see the intake - interesting! We saw the Montrose Channel heading off and yes, we did keep a look out for where it went under the road. So we know more about the Amuri - thank you!

On the last several occasions when I'm passing I see this pop up on my car GPSr and each time I think "I should go find that one ... maybe next time". After lots of "next times" and a real slow car in front on holding lots of us other vehicles back it suddenly became obvious that this cache was now "this time". A quick find and a fresh logbook now has my name at the top of the first page. Thanks Kiwi Moose for the history lesson and for the reason to stop here. Plenty of water was thundering down the river today after the heavy rains we've had this week.
Cache replaced the other day, looks like bridge works might have got rid of it.
Visiting the South Island as the grown up kids are on Uni holiday. Heading up to Nelson today and collecting some caches en route. Thought this was going to be simple but ended up with a sad face. Nice sunset and river to keep us smiling.
Found on way from ChCh to Nelson. not sure why didnt try on previous trips. A campervan came across bridge as signing log and thought they may be geocachers but just gave me a wave. TFTC
Day 3 of our Southern Skedaddle and the roads were pointing us towards further caches and Christchurch. Relatively quiet spot despite its location so near the main road, but it gave us the opportunity to have a look at this essential piece of infrastructure and stretch our legs before another long drive. TFTC
A short getaway to catch up with family on the Mainland and drive some roads not travelled before.
Driving from Hanmer to Christchurch today, should be able to do it in 8 hours.
Great spot for a cache.

Found with mangoambs while passing through. Lovely little spot and easy find. TFTC
A lovely spot here by the river. We were on the way home from three days caching in Hanmer Springs and beyond with Busy paws. Thanks for this cache Kiwi Moose.
Can the next finder please put it back in the bridge railing like a normal cache please? Cheers, no point it wandering down the hill.
Shifted about a metre, so it's less in the open. Still easy to find. Looks like a new canister + record.
