Found whilst out with keylev and laval.

Thanks for the cache.

21-Apr-22
On the way back, we dropped by to grab this cache. Straight away I knew what it was. It was well exposed, no lid and the log is just a big ball of a soggy mess. Maintenance definitely needed on this one.

21-Apr-22
On our way home with B4Dawn, cragger and laval after hiking the Waitewheta Hut for an overnighter. Pulled over to make the stroll over here.

Cache is definitely in need of maintenance as others have already mentioned.

Thanks for the cache.

After completing the caches near Dickey Flat, I came here for a bit of a wander. I wasn't sure about the terrain rating being a 3, but as others sauid I found the cache container on the ground and realised this must be the cache, so I have logged a found it. if I had spare paper and realised just exactly where the cache was supposed to be, I would have added paper to it. I guess it's time for C.O maintenance.

11-Dec-21
Stopped by after camping nearby. Snuck down as a few kids were trying to amp themselves up enough to jump off the bridge. Quickly found the cache but its in terrible state, needs replacing as others have said.
Looks like a cool watering hole though!

11-Dec-21
Container has no lid and log not useable by any means. Needs replacement container and log

28-Nov-21
Found the container with no lid, log book not useable.

20-Mar-21
Out on my day off with annoying muggle husband so didn't get as many caches as I would like. Tftc

27-Feb-21
Found on the way to Daly’s hut loop. Full of water. Love the bridge art!

13-Feb-21
Container lid broken and no longer shutting, time for a new one. Very wet inside

17-Jan-21
Found it. As per previous logs, log is wet. Added a new water proof paper log. Hope this helps. Tftc

21-Dec-20
No problem finding. But cache is in a sad state. Full of water. Definitely needs a new container. Enjoyed the spot. Took pic of cache. Not able to sign log. Tftc

26-Jan-20
Cache was full of water. Zip lock bags too. The lid is damaged. The cache was found quickly by van jeans, despite muggle presence. TFTC

06-Aug-19
Found It ,but didn’t open as it is full of water

05-May-18
Out in Karangahake Gorge today and we detoured to pick this one up. I was pleasantly surprised to pick it up easiy - the terrain rating indicated much harder than this. The notebook log was a little damp - not in the plastic bag so I placed in back in the plastic bag and hopefully it will stay a little drier. TFTC Smile

08-Jan-18
Right, got it this time, still with 9 Scouts and with their help we worked out how to get the hint to show on the Garmin Rinon 750 and got it this time on the way back from Nambassa and Daly's Clearing.

07-Jan-18
Time is against us and we have not worked how to get the hint from our Garmin Rino 750 GPS units. With 9 Scouts on an overnighter up to Daly's Clearing to get that one. We will be back tomorrow!

06-Aug-17
I found this cache along with a bunch of other Geocachers from Hamilton ( and an Aucklander). We came here primarily to conquer "Mountain Duck" another rarely found Geocache in the same area, which was the 4000 milestone cache for Kiwi69 and 11hpg11 and the 8000th for HKCB. After successfully finding that one, we picked up this cache on our way back home. There was some pretty dodgy parking by some of our team but thankfully it was a quick find and no other cars came by.

06-Aug-17
After a great hike to the Maungawhio Summit, Team Duck stopped quickly at GZ. The log is very wet. TFTC

06-Aug-17
Wow what a simply fantastic adventure! This mission went from a simple mention of a few of our milestones coming up at the last event, to a date being set 2 weeks in advance to give us time to get up to our magic numbers. This proved to be a bigger mission for some. It provided an adventure in itself, there have been late night trips to Tauranga, frantic puzzle solving and subjecting ourselves to all sorts of drive bys and park and grabs simply to get the numbers.

Today we met at a suitable Auckland hour, only to have one lone Aucklander join our team. Today our group consisted of Cats&Dragons, HKCB, Iammrwalker, Kyb3r, Kiwis69, Alpenmilch80 and myself. Signed logs as Team Duck. Coffee supplies refilled, food purchased and we were off to the track. The carpark was full and there were cars pulling up left right and centre. A very different experience for some who are used to caching under the cover of darkness.

After completing a successful summit of Mountain Duck and getting back to the main track it was time to head back to the cars. A fantastic day out but still a few more caches to grab.

A quick stop here with some interesting parking but luckily we managed a quick find here and it was back on the road.

26-Feb-17
The Watering Hole has a very watery log. It felt like I was engraving my name rather than writing it. Needs some TLC from the CO. TFTC

07-Jan-17
Camping for the weekend at nearby Waitawheta Camp.
This one was wet. Drained out water, signed log and tried to return it so that it did not collect more water as the lid is cracked. A fair amount of algae in this swimming hole unfortunately. TFTC novalightning.

18-Dec-16
Day 2 of our weekend camp ApacheD and got up fairly early cooked our breakfast tidied up our camp site then of we headed for this cache before the locals turned up for a swim.

Our "running" group have been out this way several times, but not to find a cache. Finally after the lure of a FTF earlier and a couple of DNFs we stopped off here for a nice find. Couldn't beleive how busy this road was at 1pm on a Wednesday! Thanks for the placement.

06-Jul-16

28-Feb-16
1.00pm. The watering hole was getting good use on this fine warm summers day. Had to be careful not to attract undue attention. Quickly located with help of hint. Left a signature path tag.
Location brought back kayaking exploits while helping running Kiwanis children's camps nearby.

Just attaching a photo of the view along the Waitawheta River above the Watering Hole. Beautiful river.

17-Jan-16
After long tramp with KiwiteacherNZ and GlynRhys1, we though a couple of quick cache finds was needed before heading home. A muggle was making use of the watering hole, but we were able to get the cache without giving away what we wer doing. Thanks for the placement.

17-Jan-16
Came here today with HKCB and a newbie (GlynRhys1) after our 28km round trip partly as a training tramp and just to get out in the bush again. Been a while since I've done a Novalightning cache!

16-Jan-16
Logged with GCDroid.

Today was a day to pick up the straggler caches after three caching days in the general area.

A couple of the locals past me while I was comtemplating the way to the GZ. Boy, were they giving me the once over.

Cheers for the cache.

11-Apr-15
Flipdags got a bit of a buzz here with the electric fence ahaha Smile. The cache was difficult to retrieve with all the horns by GZ. TFTC Smile

07-Feb-15
Found after the campout event cleaning out caches in the area before heading home. Was just out of sight of a bunch of kids jumping off the bridge. Thanks!

07-Feb-15
A quick grab here after a great weekend of camping for the Camp-Out event at Dickey's Flat. We stopped here to make this grab before starting on the drive back home. No problems at GZ, thanks for the cache! Big Grin

06-Feb-15
I'd been up to 'Dalys Clearing' and 'One more river to cross' caches, so by the time I got to this cache, there was a well trampled track and a lot of familiar names in the log.
Didn't take a dip as there were more caches to find, before heading back to the camp. TFTC

06-Feb-15
Headed down to Dickeys Flat campsite Thursday evening for the Waitangi Campout Event. Friday morning we shot out for a few caches in the area before the main BBQ later on in the day.

Parked up and a heavy shower came through so we decided we'd sit in the car abit for the rain to clear. A quick find once at GZ and log signed. Abit of work in progress at the bridge but the GZ can still be accessed around the scaffolding. TFTC! Big Grin

06-Feb-15

6.35pm - Had to drive pass as muggles swimming here, picked up on way back and very over grown. SLTFTC

07-Dec-14
The fun of the Geocaching License Challenge moves into another gear... Gap (of Fap and Gap) and I begin the next license with a trip to Waihi/Whangamata. The weather is beautiful... hot and breezy.

Well, this one hadn't seen light in a few months. Ground zone has certainly grown over in the interim... And there are some nasty spikes hidden in that greenery. Wondered if we'd find this, but Gap did... Not sure about the swimming here. That water is very dark... TFTC.

02-Jul-14
Tftc! Will have to remember to come back to this spot for a swim in summer. A bit prickly around gz, but we had this one quickly in hand.

01-Jul-14
Great spot. Bit chilly for a bridge jump today. Tftc

23-Mar-14
On our way home after completing an overnight tramp to the Waitawheta hut. Blackberry nearby, wanting to draw blood and leave its mark. Looks like a cool place to swim, just not today. Thanks for the hide and bringing us here. Big Grin

23-Mar-14
Looking for a cool dip but was not sure of access, so went down further to the waterfall. Beautiful weekend down the Waitawheta tramway.

22-Mar-14
Found originally as part of rebel98 team, now created own account, re-logging as rustynz

See previous log for wrong date! woops, water level not as high as we wanted and access a little tricky. Went down the road a little further to the waterfall. Thanks again for the hide.

13-Jan-14
Once at GZ it took a couple of sweeps before spotting the cache. Big Grin

Took a while to find as was watching out for the evil blackberry! A stick became rather nessessary and soon the cach was in hand.

28-Sep-13
This was a nostalgia trip for Steed's son who was with us today. He went to school camps at Waitawheta and the choice was a morning run or swim here. He also learnt how to exit a kayak in that swift stream part.

24-Aug-13
On the way out after walking Daly's Clearing and Bluff Kauri Grove Loop tracks. Much too cold for swimming today. Thanks for the cache.

22-Jul-13
Lovely spot I may return when it is warmer and try out the swimming hole. Thanks for bringing me here.
If you look up my caching name on line it will tell you where I originally came from. I lived there until I left to go to university. TFTC

15-Jul-13
Looks like a nice swimming hole but way too cold at this time of the year. Tftc

09-Mar-13
Found after a good day of fly-fishing on the Waitawheta River. Even though I only caught one small fish, the walk upstream through the beautiful valley is worth it. TB out. Cheers for the cache.

02-Feb-13
Hello NL. I met you with C&D on Ruapehu. You busted me finding a cache. This is not a true DNF as I didn't have an opporunity to do any searching. Too many locals hanging out on the bridge at the time. I was just on a day trip to fish some local rivers. No fish, no cache. So I will be back to explore the area more. Cheers anyway.

19-Nov-12
Stopped after a walk to Daly's clearing & was almost (but-not-quite) tempted to get my feet wet. Great spot. Dropped off a TB, as summer visitors/cachers must be on their way soon ... Tftc

4.20pm. Nice quick find. Perhaps we have met. We were the previous to the present caretakers at the camp so met many from the various Schools that came. It is a great camp. We know the water hole too, so knew what to expect. We are at present living near Kaiwaka. Greetings to the class. David and Noeline.
