The sign has gone and has been replaced by a less unusual one!For any who may be wondering it read "Wainuiomata Rugby Squash Club."Still hoping to place some new caches in the area.
Didn't make it last week. I have business to do in Wainui tomorrow so if the weather isn't too bad I will do some work on this tomorrow but I probably won't have a container ready till next week.
Sorry I haven't managed to get to this one. Hoping to be in Wainui later in the week and see what I can sort out (and maybe plant a new unrelated cache too!)
A quick find on my way past to fill a multi-cache dot day. Thanks for setting up.
Found without incident this morning between the pulses of traffic and the odd walker. Maybe they play with a vegetable? Thanks for an interesting multi and greetings from north Queensland.
Having been to the posted location coordinates more than a few times, I had an idea of what is in this area. Got the correct coordinates without any problems and found the cache surprisingly, as half of the hint object is missing I do like straightforward multis that dont require too much maths.
Yes I am aware of the state of the hint object.I might have to consider moving the cache but left it as is for the moment.
In the plan for later this week I hope. Now I don't live in Wainui (though still in the Wellington area) I don't get out there so often these days!
Darn, I was in Wainui yesterday but didn't have time to check on it. I may not be able to take a look for at least a week. Not the first time the host has disintegrated, it was replaced last time.
A new cache got published down and around the coast from Wainuiomata a little over a week ago, and as no one went for it last weekend I decided that I would head out there after work today. A couple of weeks ago I walked from the Corner Creek campsite to another new cache (by the same CO), but as this one was closer to Wellington I did wonder which approach would be the best choice.
Here's the theory: From home to Corner Creek is a 100 minute drive, and then approximatly a 6km walk to the cache. From home to the end of Coast Road is a 40 minute drive, and then approximatly a 10km walk to the cache. The walking is flat and firm from both ends. The weather was warm and the wind was not bad. At an average walking pace of 4.5kph or better, the mathematics says starting from the Wainuiomata end was the right choice.
Here's the practice: It was a long walk. The walkies feature of my watch tells me I walked 21.2km and it took me 4 hours and 3 minutes. My legs tell me I should not do that again for a few days. In reality I think the Wairarapa approach may have been a better choice, but like all good geocaching adventures I had fun.
As for this cache, I had no problem identifying the unusual (but pretty standard for Wainuiomata) sport some time ago, and having calculated the final location back then I was finally able to call by Tonight. The cache was found safe and well, although the structure it is attached to seems to be coming apart which may cause issues soon.
Thanks to robnzh for placing and maintaining this cache.
I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with CO's like this placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues.

I've been stuck in bed for most of this weekend due to having caught a common cold. Not much fun, but it did give me some good time to puzzle-solve, and also to look at caches that I had previously DNF'd. The upshot of all that was that by late this afternoon I was starting to get cabin fever, and I was also feeling much better, so jumped in the car to drive over to Wainui to do a little caching in some fresh air.
This was a cache that I had solved a few months ago using Google Street View. I figured that today was as good a day as any to find out if my online solve had been correct. As it turns out, yes. With dusk falling, I was able to find the cache, sign the log (with my spare pen I keep in my car having lost my good one earlier on a track walk) and replace the cache with the minimum of fuss. The only issue is that I have mistakenly signed all my logs today as if it were tomorrow (8th). I blame my still woolly head!!!
I'm really not sure what to make of that sporting combination, as it would be hard to think of 2 more disparate sports! Thanks for bringing me here today.

After the wet day yesterday we were pleased to have some sunny weather, perfect for a drive along the valley to the Coast. We haven't been out this way before, and the puzzle trail along here was very tempting.
But first we started off with this multi. Got the info from the sign, and made our way to GZ where the cache was a quick find. An interesting sporting variation that would be - the mind boggles! TFTC

There is now a promotional hoarding next to the sign that is used for the clues.

Well that was interesting. Before lockdown it was reported that the magnet was a bit dodgy.
Today I visited to find that the cache had since gone missing and the only thing left was.... the magnet... which was still firmly attached to the host!
Cache replaced with a slightly better quality container though still the same type.

Not enabling this one yet after the level change as I intend to replace the cache in view of the reported issue with the magnet.
Found out with TharntheHalken. A most unusual sport! The games they play in Wainuiomata! FP from me for amusement value. All good, though magnet a bit dodgy. Tftc!
Out for a walk on a Sunday afternoon. Many muggles at GZ so had to use much stealth. TFTC
Found this with Flowerydaze while on a caching trip from Kapiti to Wainuiomata. A reasonably quick find thanks to the hint, thanks robnzh for this cache.
Talla64 and I used to live in this street so are very familiar with this interesting sign. Today we drove over from Paraparaumu to check out a few caches and this one was on the list. A QEF. Thanks for reminding us about this unusual sport and thanks for the cache robnzh.
We are at Level 1 as from 9 June.
Social distancing is no longer required but use of hand sanitiser is still a good idea.

Play may resume provided Level 2 protocol is observed.
This includes using hand sanitiser before and after handling the cache and social distancing from anyone around who is not part of your "bubble." Please take extra care as people often walk past GZ.

A late night snaffle after working out the location previously and biding my time for a good muggle-free hour to pounce. Went straight to the right spot so a very swift turnaround. All fine here, thanks for placing this and making note of the unusual sign haha.
A quick check as I was passing.
Lid was a bit hard to open but it did with work!
Everything else in order
Continue play!

I am new to multi caches, so this took a while. What fun to find this! The intriguing sign had already caught my eye before I knew there was a cache there!
Today we had our second day in Wellington and again made a trip in and around the city, with special emphasis on Lower Hutt where we made a small tour into the country. On this trip we searched, found and logged many caches, too. The weather was not too good, not sunny, not so warm, very cloudy, and only sometimes there was some sun to be seen.
Almost no muggels observed us as they had better things to do than observing two geocachers.
Thanks to robnzh for showing us this location and for the fun we had at An unusual sport (Wainuiomata). The search we had here today didn't take too much time.
Greetings from Germany and hope to see you soon in the forest.

Glad to see that apparently it's still there, maybe there are more logs to come once Mega participants catch up on logging.
Your challenge is to introduce this new sport to your home territories when you return but sorry I can't find the rules anywhere on google

I note that despite all the Mega activity there have been no logs for this cache.
As I have been out of town though on my way back, I haven't been able to check on the cache.
If anyone has DNFed the cache I would really appreciate it if you could log accordingly so I know whether to disable the cache.

Out on a beautiful day for some caching. Sign easily found and great to have a nice close final. Tftc
After getting off the ferry I found a few caches on the way to the hostel, dropped my luggage and took the bus to the eastern end of Wellington for my main goal in New Zealand as far as geocaching is concerned, then slowly made my way back towards the city centre.
An easy riddle and quick calculation, there was no problem with the final either.
Thank you for the cache!

Visiting New Zealand for three weeks. After hanging around Auckland for a few days it was time to head south! Early morning flight to Nelson, a walk in Abel Tasman National Park with camping in Torrent Bay, then back to Marahau and a ride to Kaikoura. A short ride to Christchurch, then two rainy days in Dunedin and Invercargill, before beautiful hiking in Queenstown, Wanaka and Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park. West Coast was tricky as expected but not too wet, then a rush to Picton to explore the North Island for a few days.

This is my 29th and last cache for the day - helps when you've just walked the Fire and Ice series and also collected the other caches at each end of the series.
Another cache towards my goal of 10 multi caches in 10 days so I can complete that challenge. No problem with this one, nice and simple with a quick find.
Now off to treat myself to a large ice cream from just down the road 'cause its hot! . TFTC

A quick find here today which sufficiently few cars going by not to arouse too much suspicion. TFTC.
Sorry for delay.
Checked today and repairs have been done.
Will restore cache shortly.

Will restore cache shortly.
There has been some vandalism of the object that hosted the cache. Will notify Council, if repairs are not made within a reasonable time I may have to relocate the cache. So not replaced at this stage.
Will check, probably on Tuesday. Should be able to replace immediately if it is indeed missing.
#2520 Great to find a cache by this CO less than 24 hours after having dinner with him at Huhugrub's GIFF evening last night, followed by a train trip back to the Hutt.
An enjoyable sport, certainly one we didn't play at school a few years back. Would be interested if it ever made an Olympic sport. Thanks for the introduction to this sport.
All good at GZ. Log dry etc.

TFTC, out for a windy and wet walk with some of the members of Grandma's A Team
Yayyy found it lol....with the help of my 10yr old who has better eyes than me!
Cheers Rob

10-day multi streak challenge, day #6. I was heading down the coast road for a couple of BigCheeseNZ's newly placed film - related caches. I needed a multi to maintain my streak and this was nice and easy with the added benefit of the final of a Wellywood cache nearby. TFTC!
Found on our drive down to visit Kevin Andersons oldest geocache in New Zealand! Another lovely multi in the area. Nice and simple and convenient parking! We love your interesting sport!! Thanks for hiding!
This cache is in plain view of the house of one of my workmates. I hope she didn't spot me lurking around looking slightly suspicious! TFTC
On our travel through New-Zealand we visited some really nice places.
Thanks to all Owner to show us all this places.

Found it with Team FIN [janahola, kapeka, laalaa & temyllyl]
We had fun with caching few weeks here in New Zealand. Lots of geocaches and many sort of them too. We saw awesome places, weather was pretty good all the time and people were friendly and polite. Caches were pretty similar like in our home country. Of course there were some exeptions. Nice and really scenary country!
Greetings from Finland

Greetings from Finland.
Thanks for the multi cache.

Thanks for the multi cache.
On a geoholiday road tripping to Christchurch MEGA and around beautiful New Zealand. Our four people group (temyllyl, laalaa, kapeka and myself) from Finland used group tag FIN to log the caches.
Welcome to MEGA Finland in 5-7 august 2016!
Today we drove from Wellington to Masterton. We saw many nice places and caches. Thanks for the cache!

13th day on our geo-roadtrip in New Zealand, and caching our way towards north. Logged using our group nickname FIN with janahola, laalaa and kapeka. After having a blast in South Island and in Christchurch Mega event, we had to start heading back home. Fortunately we still had few days left to spend in NZ while driving to Auckland.
#1373. Last cache of the day before heading home after the recent event. Checked out the local sports that Wainuiomata is famous for. Worked out the coordinates then headed off on the long tramp to find the cache. Soon found a good place to rest and think about the clues. Then it was a case of doing a long and sustained search of all the local features until after about half an hour of dedicated hunting we had the cache in hand. Great to see the new logbook. Thanks for the multi robnzh.
Cache was missing, replaced.
Take care when replacing as magnet is not very strong, will get one with a better magnet as soon as I can.

Must have done something wrong as I couldn't find it where I was looking... but had to move on.
#4 This was the second one for the evening. I had actually found this one several years ago but never logged it so I went and "found it" again with Royal J [:-)] Thanks robnzh for the cache!
Did today with Astro Hunter, Crystal Fairy and MycroMan. Easy final. Thanks!

#1562 A quick multi on my travels around Wainui this afternoon. Was able to park nice and close and had coordinates worked out promptly. No trouble finding the cache. TFTC- an unusual sport indeed!
Not sure what happened with our coordinates but they were pointing us onto the field! On our way back to the sign to try again, we decided to use the hint and found the cache
Found this one today in the pouring rain. While I was trying to locate wp1 in the dark a community patrol person stopped to ask if I was OK. I said I was fine and then found wp1 and back to the dry car to work out wp2. Drove there and then brought log back to sign.
Thanks for the cache and it certainly is an unusual sport!

First find on an evening Wainuiomata caching mission with geo-partner-in-crime Kjwx. Suffered a bit of cache blindness on the first pass, but got there eventually. TFTC
Got the information required on the way past in the morning and then solved back at my friend's home while having lunch.
This was my first visit ever to Wainuiomata. My plan was to sign the log book in the oldest cache in New Zealand, which we did together in the morning.
Went out to grab this in the afternoon but there was someone watching gz so we went and grabbed the next closest cache and came back to it.
Very quick easy find, thanks for the cache.

Quickly got the hang of the rules for this great new sport. Scored the winning points very quickly. Not sure if will catch on though. Day 9 of multi challenge. Now off down to the south coast. TFTC.
I had solved this remotely a while ago (I think it was for preparation for the multi-streak challenge, but was not needed). A straightforward find. TFTC
Replaced container as old one was a bit rusty.
Pencil was blunt so took it home to sharpen, please ensure you bring your own writing instrument till I return in a day or two.

Number 2 today being day three of I.G.D. weekend road trip to Wellington. A quick solve & find on the way to GC46. Would never have guessed the sport. I'm wondering how many players participating? TFTC
Had fun solving this but lost my workings and had not saved the final coords. Luckily I could remember the location, so was a quick find on an increasingly windy day. TFTM
