OzHockeyChick suggested we head out of Melbourne for the weekend. No need to ask me twice! The car is packed, which direction?

We ended up in Phillip Island and after camping nearby overnight we headed off to gather some more caches before targeting my 12,000th find on the way home.

The camp on this one did make me jump as I wasn’t sure what it was initially. Fortunately all safe!

Thanks Gonefishen07 for adding this cache to the worldwide collection for us all to enjoy.

A plan was hatched for a trip to the Island with RoamingHowie to explore and finally turn some dots into smileys.

I had solved this one a while ago so it was nice to finally be able to find the cache. RH was the one to make the find, and the camo certainly made him jump, hehe! Glad it was him, as I’d have possibly had a heart attack.

Thanks for bringing us here by placing this cache, Gonefishen07

Fairly quick solve this morning but I did jump after seeing what my hand touched when retrieving the cache! Great puzzle and cache. Tftc

As an amateur astronomer I knew straight away what this was referring to. The only difficulty was finding a way of plotting them all without entering manually. Eventually found something online that would do it with a bit of manipulation and dropped in this morning on the way back to the accommodation to find this one fairly quickly. Thanks.

I may have had a little help with this one. But oh so much learning in the process to which I am very grateful for. Difficulty should be more than 2.5. Great puzzle and love everything about it except my lack of ability to solve it independently. Signed as TKB's (Tiz13+Kashbound+kbucky)

While walking in Oswin Roberts Conservation Reserve, completing my hike from Rhyll, I noticed this puzzle.

A partial solution was immediately apparent, but then I read a passage and had a bright idea... hmmmm, one possibility where was about to walk.

Which was eliminated as I walked by, leaving... I walked there earlier.

So on the way to meeting friends so we could attempt a night cache, I took a detour.

Thanks, hell+back, and Gonefishen07. A neat puzzle, and appropriately themed container, exactly where I expected.

Spiffy- and I decided to take advantage of this rare public holiday and went to the Island. Luckily we headed off early as on the way back the traffic getting on to the island went for about 10km.

While having lunch we had a look at this and narrowed it to 2 spots, of course it was the second.

Thanks to hell+back adopted by Gonefishen07 for the fun and the adventure.

Today we headed off early to Phillip Island and glad we did because the traffic was at a standstill coming onto the island when we left. For a public holiday the weather was surprisingly good. After finding the main cache we needed today we deployed the scooters at the car park here and rode each direction along this awesome trail. Geez they went to a lot of trouble building all these boardwalks. A great range of caches were found along here today.

While eating lunch today we worked this one out and had 2 potential points and the second one we checked we cam up trumps.
Thanks Gonefishen07 for the cache, the adventure, the hunt and the fun.

A WORLD GEOCACHING DAY event was the big attraction to the Island along with a few other missions and catching up with 'geobuddies' including CybergranV . The 600 km trek means I don't get here too often so decades on the expansion of the burbs is impressive. I'm glad there are plenty of wild coast lines and that our forbears had the vision to set aside little nature reserves to protect and enjoy the outdoors - and of course super happy to go exploring and hunting for caches! Thanks to Gonefishen07 for keeping the Nemesis alive!

20-Aug-22
This has certainly been my nemesis on previous visits to the island, but today it was the first opportunity to look for it.
What a great boardwalk. We would have loved to explore it further but Ronice88 and I were on a mission to attend the first of eight events today to celebrate World Geocaching Day.
Thanks for placing the cache here which Ronice88 located, loved the guardian!
Another favourite point from me.

I had solved this a while ago not long after I started caching. I didn't keep notes on how I solved them then so I had to take a leap of faith and just assume that it was correct. We parked up nearby and at the GZ made a qui k find. TNLN. TFTC.

Find #11711

A solo trip to the island for me today, attended the Silverleaves CITO first and then picked up various caches in the area while I was here.

As I approached GZ, there was a couple of suspicious looking characters in queenant89. A group find here.

Another day-another caching run!
Since the COVID restrictions have eased in regional Victoria we have been trying to do a weekly run with caching mate Rebel Acts. This is our fourth outing, and unfortunately the drizzle looks set to make things a bit miserable. Our first 3 days were beautiful, mild and with a light breeze. We are living in hope that the skies clear and make it more comfortable, but this IS Victoria.
As in the past we will sign many of the caches RASP.
We have been trying to complete this puzzle for years and years. Lucky the actual cache didn’t take anywhere near the amount of time to find

With restrictions lifted in regional Vic I once again teamed up with SKI Pair armed with My mask and Sanitizer, Today we headed over the hills to Phillip Island where we had a great day exploring the Island, the weather was four seasons in one day, but that did not stop us. There were quite a few challenging and novel hides in the area. this is one of the caches we found today. Another solved puzzle I was glad to turn into a smile.

Logs signed as RASP

This has been on our to do list each time we visit the Island, but not having solved the puzzle, it was always left until next time. This trip we came prepared and as we plotted our course, one particular location looked promising. Today was the day to see if we were on the right track and as we commenced our search, it wasn’t long before we had the goods in hand.

Great puzzle. Thanks hell+back and Gonefishen07 for adopting this cache.

Knowing that we would be hiking the Treasure Island - Rhyll geo-trail today we had sat down to solve the puzzle for this cache last night. Now, at the right place during our hike we updated our GPS with the corrected coordinates and then continued on towards Ground Zero where the very appropriate and good fun cache container was located soon enough. We signed the log book and then replaced as found. Thanks so much for the cache and for the puzzle and greetings from Zimbabwe

I stumbled upon this one while recently checking out Phillip Island's caching landscape in preparation for my brief visit here. I've solved similarly themed caches in the past but this is particularly well executed.

Arriving on the island this afternoon, this was the second cache I logged. I got a bit of a start when I lifted it out Smile.

Thanks hell+back and Gonefishen07 a favourite from me.

*19 Oct 2019, Found @4:09 pm, Find # 3395.*

Came down this way to attend an event and decided to continue caching in the area. After looking at this one last night and plotting some waypoints I was able to eliminate a few options. With one waypoint more likely than all the others I decided to check it out. Bingo the cache was found and in excellent condition.

*Smiley # 10028.*
*Cache find # 9983 + 45 Lab Caches.*

After spending a bit of time on Churchill Island at an event and finding a few caches, we then returned to the larger Island and then went on a quest to find some treasure.
I can’t believe how many times I had gone right passed this cache without knowing as I hadn’t got around to looking at the puzzle.
This time I was prepared as I knew I was going to be close by I decided to have a look at it, a short time later I knew were it wasn’t going to be and there was one spot that did shine like a bright star to me and thats were we head for today.
Once at this location we started looking around and the cache was soon spotted, it also got a bit of a reaction upon retrieval, very funny.

**Thanks to hell+back for placing this cache and to Gonefishen07 for keeping up and running.**

Out today on a bike ride with the kids, so good to be able to find some caches at the same time! I had solved this some time ago and forgot it was here, so I was pleasantly surprised! It was a fun puzzle to solve, unlike any other I have ever done. Great stuff, fave from me!

We are having a holiday in Phillip Island this week. Being the Queen's Birthday Long Weekend, coupled with some lovely weather, made it very busy, with muggles out everywhere you went. There were many people walking and riding along the trails today.

We broke out the bikes to do this interesting little trail, where we found a variety of good hides in different containers. Having had this one solved, it was just a matter of making the find in a nice location. Took travel bug to continue it on.

Thanks for all the effort of placing the cache for us to find and doing the maintenance to keep it in play

Found by The Empire with Snap Happy
After a successful 'lead up to another Victorian Mega' event in nearby Cowes, we decided to head out caching for the day. We were keen to check out some of the 'Treasure Island' series which seem to be all over the island.

We took a walk along this section of the trail after lunch. Snap should have had his bike serviced... we'll have to come back another day (with our bikes) to get the rest. All of these caches were found pretty quickly and we enjoyed our walk. Another hell+back mystery that Snap and I had solved from way back. A quick find, and we were off to the next one. Thanks for the cache hell+back.

A day spent on Phillip Island before the Long Weekend visitors arrived proved fruitful as we cached almost muggle free picking up some interesting finds in magical locations. With the planned trip here, beckNmonts and myself went to work on solving this puzzle in anticipation of picking up the final today. As it turned out it was the last find of the day and by now, it was getting dark. The cache was found quickly before we made our way back to San Remo, watching the constant stream of car headlights bombarding the island as we left.
Thanks Gonefishen07 for keeping another oldie alive.

Trodectus and I had solved this a few days ago and after visiting the winery, seemed like a good time to go for it. Drove to GZ and stated searching, hoping we on the right side, which it turns out we were, took a bit of search, but eventually came up with the find. Log signed and returned. TFTC

Found with Coybear2000. As we knew we'd be visiting the island, we'd looked at this puzzle and had a good idea of what was involved. We were almost right but we quickly saw what our incorrect assumption had been and we had co-ords. We headed there after visiting the nearby winery and we started our search. Our GPSs wouldn't settle on GZ, so we expanded our area, all to no avail. Eventually C looked in the right spot, where we'd started our search, and came up CIH. TFTC.

02-Jan-19
I loved this cache for so many reasons - not the least of which is that it mentions us by name - Zeus, Hera (and kids)! How could we not attempt to solve this puzzle?! I came to Phillip Island ill-prepared for caching so I didn't know about this one until I stumbled across it when we were already a couple of days into our camping holiday down here. I was hard to muster the brain power to step through this riddle but I'm so glad I did . . .

I got part of the way there and then hit a wall - rereading the cache description set me on the correct path and with a bit of confirmation of my interpretations and some googling from Dorkasscott, we thought we had the right answer.

I didn't want to waste my time so I PAF'd a previous finder to make sure. It was almost time to head back to Melbourne and I hadn't heard back from him I we decided to trust our method and go to the likely location. YES!! Loved the cache guardian and everything about this puzzle. It's something I've not done before and I loved that all the information you need is right there in the description. A favourite for the puzzle and for the Zeus, Hera reference.

14-Oct-18
We had tried to find this cache a year or so ago without any luck. So in planning for this trip to Phillip Island we decided to replot the coordinates and attempt to solve it. This time I realised that I had paid enough attention to the some of the information supplied and this time had a likely location. Arriving on PI this afternoon we headed to our "solved" coordinates and a short search revealed the container. Nice challenge. Tftc

29-Sep-18
Caching walk #2.5 today (now heading back east along the edge of Oswin Roberts Koala reserve and Cowes-Rhyll Road) for lochb, G&J of GJMMelb and I, GJMMelb had found it on a previous caching visit to the island so I'll be honest and say that they had given lochb and I a helping hand with this puzzle (although the concept of solving it makes sense to me and I hope to revisit the puzzle myself in the near future to see if it works as I expect it to). G' headed back to get his car to rendezvous with us at another carpark it was just the three of us who continued on foot to GZ. The cache was found exactly where you'd expect it to be in such surroundings (both in type of hide and the exact positoning of it) - the guardian didn't faze me (and has given my interpretation of the puzzle a slight tweak - and it reminds me of another I did some time back too involving the same topic IIRC) TFTC Gonefishen07 - a favourite point from me for the method/theme of puzzle Smile

Had a girls weekend away and after a final brunch together it was my time to do some much awaited caching in the area before heading home.
Had a great time solving this one during the week in anticipation of my trip here so was excited to be right on the money with the coords. Little less enthusiastic to retrieve the cache given its guardian! Thanks for a fun puzzle and well themed container.

Started mapping coords without too much thought, and had to be put on the right track with hint from cjfinda. Then entered the wrong coords before retreating and redoing the entry. Finally an enjoyable find. An FP for the concept and the final presentation. TFTC

Had a rare free Saturday with the family overseas so I planned a day of caching on Phillip Island. The forecast 40 degree heat didn't deter me though I tried to plan caches without too much walking and of course I avoided the nearby area closed due to fire danger. Knowing I was heading down to the island I had tackled this one earlier in the week. Nicely done and I had a good idea what I was looking for so pleased to solve it. The cache too was quickly found in a likely spot which was a relief on such a hot day. My 21st find of 30 for the day. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and visited some trackables. Thanks for the puzzle hell+back and to Gonefishen07 for keeping this cache going.

Found at 2:00 PM GAFF4/3.
Thought I had worked this one out years ago, but we were distracted with all of those difficult sand dune caches that came out shortly after. Today I had the co-ords updated and after a bit of a scramble around on all fours - the cache was in hand - Finally!
Thanks Gonefishen07.

Had looked at this puzzle a few times, but knowing I was going to be in the area, took another look today.
Must say that after plugging all the co-ordinates into an app, things started to fall into place. This is actually a really nice puzzle where once you work it out all the small word plays just fall into place nicely.

Near the parking location, the lizards were really enjoying themselves in the sun, and kept playing in and out of the gaps in the boardwalk

Thanks for the cache hell and back and to Gonefishen 07 for keeping it going

I solved this in anticipation for a weekend at PI. I was a bit suck at first woth the puzzle admin i havnt quite read properly... especially the actual name which is crucial to solving really. 19/02/2017 - 7.43pm - - 1st dnf for the day - with dgfb33. Back from a caching weekend to Wedderburn with Surefoot24 & Darren. We all managed to miss an important piece of luggage (the laptop) in the transfer of my stuff from one car to another & it wasn't noticed until I was putting things away. Oh damn I need that tonight & for tomorrow! So instead of having a good catchup sleep I had to rope dgfb33 into a drive over to Cowes to collect it... Sigh! We could have done lots of finding on the way to & fro except that I had had to be conservative with what was loaded onto finding device to allow as much hunting as possible before reaching home. I was lucky that I had solved this one so it was on my device & was quite close to our route. We did some hunting but weren't successful so this will need to be one for another day. Thanks for the hunt. Wink

After finally solving the puzzle last week with friends I headed off to find it on a sultry afternoon. Just as I was returning to the car the rain settled in, so further searches were ruled out. Yep I'm a wooss! Loved the astronomy themed puzzle.

I quite like this puzzle. I've not really seen anything similar before in a puzzle. Though, coincidentially, I adopted a night-cache just a week or so ago that references some of the same concepts. At GZ I found the cache within an instant. Literally put my hand on it in the very first place I shoved it. Thanks Hell+Back and Gonefishen07!

Found on a tour of the area - so many caches, some many nice spots to stop and suck in the oxygen. Found this in the last place I looked which was not the first place I looked.... I wondered what I was feeling for a second....

I admit to using low cunning to solve this puzzle. After plotting the co-ords on Google Earth I realised I didn't need the star chart. I have been walking and bird-watching around that part of Phillip Island for more years than I care to remember. When I looked carefully at the pins on Google Earth one leapt out at me as the most likely and I was correct. Thank you for this creative cache.

Another day on Phillip Island and a few caches to be found and this guy was the first for the day.
Having worked out where this guy should it was time to check it out.
Well all went to plan and I grabbed something which is would not normally grab.
Great start to this caching day so thanks to Gonefishen07 for keeping this guy going.
WOW fancy having to look after 430 caches, I have about 120 and that takes a lot of my time.

We'd earmarked Phillip Is as one of our targets on this trip as (a) we'd never been there before & (b) it contains a bucketload of caches in a small area. Strangely (as we'd based ourselves at Wonthaggi) this was our first stop this morning. Now Mr Tardis (being a puzzle nut) had uh, nutted out a number of Hell+Back's conundrums beforehand. This one caused him some anguish despite it being a field of interest in his youth. In fact he'd only managed to knock it down to 3 possibilities. Not much hope there, but surprisingly his first "guess" came up trumps and an appropriately dressed cache was soon in hand. Thanks for letting us make a good start to our day on PI Hell+Back.

I have been a little tardy in my logging of caches. I have come across my Garmin log files when transferring my stuff to a new laptop, so now it's time for the laborious catchup - I hope not too many have been archived!

Apologies to the cache owners. I have enjoyed your caches mostly when I have been on holidays, as this seems to be the only time I get out and about these days. Thank you all for your work.

Solved the puzzle and then found with Jupiterpearl, Sunruby, Moonruby and the rest of the stellar family!

Owning a telescope myself this cache was very appealing. Gave the job of working out coordinates to Starruby ( telescope not needed but knowledge needed to work out final destination ). With the troop of Geokids and partners the find was made after a pleasant walk. With aquapearl as well

Found on 30/8/14 with matt_geo. Sorry for the late log, on a big busy day of caching this one was overlooked. Great camo which freaked mum out Big Grin

Having worked out the coordinates we headed past GZ on the drive down and took the quick stroll to the cache. Geo wife made the find. The log was quickly signed and we were on our way. Thanks for another enjoyable puzzle and cache.

I had only taken a little while to look around the map of Phillip Island before leaving home, however I had somehow managed to miss this one. However being that the names (mine and the caches) seemed to be aligning there was no way that I could leave Phillip Island without solving and making a find on this cache.

So last night I set to the task of seeing what I could do with the information I had. I knew what and how to do the first step, however it did not come up quite how I was expecting so I had to do a little bit (ok a lot more research) and soon enough come up with something promising, however I was having trouble making it fit.

Something of a close enough educated guess was essentially what made up the next bit, and we had some coords to try in the morning. Unfortunately this was one of those all or nothing shots, if this was the wrong one there was not really time to try another option.

So this morning we pulled up in what looked like a well formed parking spot pretty close to GZ and wandered over to the area where the coords were pointing. In the spot I took one look and knew there was only one place to try for. I soon had in my hands the container with the right adornment. We got the log signed and things back in place and were happily heading on the way.

TFTC a great little puzzle Smile

Luckily we were with OrionJ for this one as he is much more experienced at solving puzzles than us newcomers. We headed off for the find and we're soon at GZ. OrionJ was ahead of us to the find. Loved the mascot on this one. Glad it was not a live variety. TFTC

While preapring for a visit to Melbourne, Phillip Island was a target place for a weekend away. Lots of hell+back puzzle caches on the island. While Lo Vista usually solves the puzzles, this was a cache Ro Vista took over the solving duties for - very clever puzzle. First cache found on the island with TokenTess on way to our accomodation.

Found today with smee1981.
Only took 4 or 5 attempts! (Give or take 10) Constantly re-checking the coordinates, cracking it at the gps, telling the family that it "has to be right here" and today we finally found it, "right here" in the first place i looked! And I swear I've looked at it's hiding spot dozens of times since then without spotting it! Absolutely loved this one! Thanks to hell+back for yet another challenging but at the same time all so simple cache!

Note to self...use reliable information. After searching in the area of the 2nd brightest, GZ turned up to tricky due to cyclists. And boy, don't they creep up on you quickly. Finally...TFTC. TNLN Fav pt from me.

Found on a day out with Liz and Bruce. I was lucky to be able to get some time off to spend caching around the island with them. We made a very quick find here. TFTC Hell + Back

We just could not leave this area without revisiting Phillip Island in an endeavour to finish off the Not Drowning series and to collect some other caches in the area that have been on our list for a long time. Again we were lucky to have a perfect day to go exploring this most scenic island and with what better company than Gonefishen07 and Zobo04 (after school hours). Nice one. Thanks to hell+back.

Suscoe's 6th find of the morning on a beaut sunny start to the day.
This cache has been on the working on list for a couple of years and after a fruitless effort last year we refined the calculations and research and had another set of co-ordinates that proved to be better.
Arrived near GZ to find folks walking everywhere.
Waited and then the walkers disappeared.
A quick look and the cache was found.
Thank goodness this one is now on the found list.
Well done to hell+back for this cache.

We ventured out into the wind and rain on another cold and bleak day. The weather radar application on the mobile proved its worth as we timed our cache gathering in between breaks in the rain.
We found the answer to what we should have realised a lot sooner than we did, it was on top of the cache container.

TNLN . . SL . . Thanks for the hunt hell+back.

This gave me no end of trouble. I plotted and plotted these numbers. I printed out, drew lines and all sorts of things before I finally won. I did enlist the help of PAF who helped and supported me many times and with lots of patience.
If I was to tackle it now I think I would do a better job. I have had a little more experience in this hobby.
Any way it was fun and the cache was easily found as the co-ords were spot on. Had to laugh when I put my hand on it too.

# 3011. I had visited this one on our last maintenance run with the CO but at that stage had not solved the puzzle. At home I worked through the interesting puzzle and so armed with some coordinates I returned to sign the cache. Found it easily enough but dropped it very quickly. Future finders may understand why. Signed log and returned to its hiding spot. TFTC hell+back.

No quick find for us today. We looked and left, returned and looked again and gave up, and then had to return a third time to satisfy our curiosity. After reading previous logs we were making things too difficult for ourselves. After phoning a friend and returning to our original plan and determined not to be defeated, the cache was in hand in a flash. Not our proudest caching moment, but a relief to find the cache after working out the puzzle correctly. Thanks for another brain teaser hell+back.

A great puzzle, and I was very pleased to quickly locate the cache. No wildlife sighted by me, and definitely no snakes, tiger or otherwise - not that I have really been worried about snakes, as according to the experts, there are only Copperheads on the island anyway, and while these are worthy of respect, they aren't all that dangerous, unlike Orion's nemesis, where the smaller ones are worse than the big ones! Thanks hell+back for the cache
