Need to disable until I can get up with a new container. Probably at New Year.JF.
More than four month after the last, sad discovery we did not succeed. We were not high in hopes looking for nothing but a ziploc in the bush.We brought a replacement container, but could not locate the mentioned log in a bag.At least it was good fun to walk trough the stream and back across the dunes!
I concur with the penultimate log.We arrived here because of the cache. My kiwi partner had never been here before. We bushbashed to the cache, which was not easy, but then took to the stream to carry on down to the sea, and back the same way.We are 70plus and it was one of the best days ever. The dunes were amazing, and walk down the stream. Thanks so much for the cache.I have written a note about the cache.
The ammo can is not there. It was there until recently, we could see the indent in the ground. In it's place was a ziplock bag, at the exact location, with the logbook inside. It seems to me to be not feasible that anyone but a geocacher would venture here.Very sad.We didn't have anything with us to replace the container, but we covered the ziplock with twigs.
This cache is what geocaching is all about. I had flagged this cache because of the favourite points it had on it, so we made a detour from the main road to here. I managed to convince 4Clubs to take her shoes off and walk along the stream (she was reluctant - dodgy knee and being in her 80s), but she did and we had a great time. The water in the stream was lovely and warm and it was interesting coming across 4WD's during our walk. We didn't climb the sand dunes but we certainly admired them from below. Our shoes had to go back on for the scramble to the cache, and it took a while to locate the container, but we were very happy to spot it when we did. It's always great to find one of these containers in the wild. Thanks so much for placing this cache here - we definitely would not have visited the sand dunes (and they were so awesome), without the incentive to find this awesome cache.
Day 2 of our adventure. I came up to Cape Reinga with tramyard who was on a mission to place a virtual cache at Cape Reinga, that was yesterday. But we also intend to spend time exploring new places, staying in out of the way camp sites and off course geocaching here and there. So while I was busy elsewhere, my little buddy tramyard agreed to sign me in too, love these streams below the sand dunes, we have one at Bethell's beach West Auckland (Te Henga). You can walk a few km up stream with water no deeper than 6 inches right up to the water source. It's very cool. Thanks for the placement guys, appreciate the hide in a cool location.
Lovely stroll by the river to the cache location. My mate Gorby went to explore the Dunes. I took several pictures while in there and I'll upload it later. Nice solid as ammo box. Always pleasure to find. All well at GZ! TFTC!
As the locations says: Great Dunes! On our journey through NZ findingGC is not the top priority, but we can't do without it T4TC!Regards from GermanyM3_DD_DE
Find #627Found while walking Te Araroa - new Zealands long pathway from Cape Reinga to Bluff. Thank you to all the cache owners who place and maintain these caches, and thank you to all the people who help me and others on the wayVery nice cache, quick little detour while walking along the stream. Always love an ammo can and cache is predictably in good knick
Started off early on day 2 of our TA adventure, and pretty soon it was time to get the feet wet walking down te paki stream out onto 90 mile beach which we'd be walking down over the next three days. Before we reached 90 mile though, I made sure to duck off out of the stream and into the bushes to make a cheeky geocache smiley for the day. It could've been a tough search, especially with me in barefoot but the Coordinates were good and I soon came face to face with the stash. Gotta love containers like these.. nothing like an ammo can to keep things safe and dry.Travel bug dropped. My thanks go to the cache owner just floundering for hiding one here, a pretty great spot and I doubt this will ever get mugged despite being basically on the side of the "road". Cheers -- This log is trackable ! ---- Feel free to discover ---- Please mention, in which cache you've seen this code: ---- 3TABQX --
Great ride up the stream with 4x4 and out to the beach. Nice hide and got the feet a bit wet getting to it. All good thou.

The Great Dunes at The Paki was a main target for TEMBO! and me today. Unbelievable and wonderful! But we don't forget this cache. The munbox was found and the logbook signed.
Thanks to Just Floundering for hiding and maintaining the cache.

Just awesome, up here the view is amazing and I stayed longer then I wanted
Would have loved to find the original ammo cache but this new one will go probably for the next10 years
Finally had time to take the beautiful drive up to cape reigna, it’s always special to return here
And along the ride it was just great to be able to do some caching
Found well

An interesting trip to get here. Probably the first time I’ve walked down a road that was actually a river! Once at the GZ it took a while to find the cache and when we did it turns out I’d been stood next to it all along. I should have taken my glasses! Tftc.
There's probably enough sand here for all the egg timers there have ever been, and ever will be! We enjoyed our visit to the dunes even though we bailed out of climbing to the top! The stroll in the river road was much cooler and after a bit of bush wacking we found the new ammo can. TFTC!
Is a hard way to the top and the sand is VERY hot.
Made a big circle but the view is amazing.
After this I did the river walk to this cache.
The coords are great.
Thanks a lot.

I was really hoping to find this, especially after getting wet in the stream and finally getting to GZ. Unfortunately, it was raining and I had limited time to search so I couldn’t find the cache today. No doubt it’s still there, though. Thanks anyway.
1.00pm Visited in the company of Oscatello and The.Pud to check on the state of the ammo can after 10 years of loyal service. Though a bit rusted making the lid difficult to open it was still in remarkable shape. As I had brought in a new ammo can I replaced it anyway. All good - worth a visit if you are in the area.
The.Pud picked up the trackable that was in the cache at the time of our inspection.

We had a heap of fun playing on the dunes before making our way here. As we entered the stream bed, we joined a bus load of tourists with boogie boards - really bad timing! We let them all pass by and when they weren't looking deviated to the left and into the scrub. Pretty hard on bare feet, but we got to gz ok.
The lid appears to be rusted open as it open when we arrived, snd I couldn't get it to close either.
Thanks for putting this here in such a fun spot

Fantastic adventure today, walked in along the stream, nice easy find once we got there, thanks so much for the cache, never would have imagined doing that without it.
After a trek up and over the dunes I made my way into the bush, awesome hiding place! Tftc
Took a while to find but definitely worth the effort. Great walking along the stream on a hot day, even with the water being so warm. TFTC
Great spot, just down from the main dune entry, loved walking down the stream to get it and kids loved playing in the smaller dunes on the stream side. TFTC found with Yvettetb and Travelbugtribe
What a great walk down the stream to get this cache from the carpark. Thanks for bringing me here what an amazing place. TFGC
Taking our new veihicle for a drive along 90 Mile Beach. Kiwi has driven the beach once before but this is a first for Scottie & Kiwiscot. Kiwiscot who only recently got here learners licence also had a spell behind the wheel. Almost timed it badly with the tide getting around Maunganui Bluff but we managed to scoot through in between the surges. Got a bit sketchy heading north after the Bluff with the tide forcing us further up onto the softer sand but we made it to Te Paki stream. Great fun day out.
Parked up nearby and made our way across the short stretch of swampy ground and onto the ridge. Cache hidden further in than anticipated but still quickly found. All good - TFTC
Carried on driving up and past the main car park at Te Paki. We have been here a few times over the years and this is the busiest we have ever seen it. Our next destination was the Cape and again we were surprised with the amount of visitors with all the car parks overflowing. The great weather over Easter and these covid times have seen a swell of visitors to this region over the long weekend.

Visiting the area and enjoying watching the grandchildren doing their thing on the sand dunes... took two visits with no joy the first time but the next day success... How lucky are we to cache in such a lovely area..... thanks for the cache...
We are on our summer holiday, we usually take a few weeks and travel around the South Island, but this year we are heading around the North Island. Heading up the West coast and back down the East coast. Finding only a select few caches along the way, we are mostly targeting some challenges we have qualified for, some large size caches, some that fill gaps in our date placed grid, a few D/T combinations, some with lots of favourite points, letterboxes and anything else that grabs our fancy.
I had a fall on day two of our holiday, while out geocaching which has resulted in a fractured bone in my leg and I am in a moon boot and with crutches and I was told to keep weight off my leg. So I am only limited use when it comes to our trip now. I tend to stay in the campervan and just hand out suggestions of when and where GK should search.
We were up bright and early this morning to head to Kaitaia to get on the Ninety Mile Beach bus trip. We were a tad disappointed that the bus did not stop at the other caches in the area so that we could find them, but we did stop at Te Paki stream so people could go sand boarding. GK had five rides down the sand dune before he went to gather the information for the earthcache and then he ran up the stream to see if he could find this cache.
Luckily it was an easy find as the bus driver had started the engine before I could see gk returning. But then I see him running towards the bus, phew made it and with a signed log another great cache found and now a smiley.
Thanks for placing this cache and thank you for the smiley.

Nice tiki tour out here after visiting the lighthouse at Cape Reinga. Not as windy here as at the Cape, a nice reprieve. Passed a cow and her baby calf grazing on the roadside. No idea how they escaped the fences but they seemed happy enough. Later in the day (630pm 28/11) but people still walking the dunes. Took a panorama before making my way to GZ. LOTS of spider webs. Ahhh, but otherwise all good. Great spot! TFTC <3
After a long walk all across the dunes, geomars and I enjoyed the cooling effect of the river on our feet and also went to find the cache hidden here... @16:15

Road closed so set off on foot. Watching out for quicksand. Stayed dry until I left the river and walked into the feet grass. Left tb.
what a place! so beautiful, one couldn't even think of something like it. the combination of colours is just great. unbelievable that this stream is actually a road. no way this would bw allowed pretty much anywhere else in the world. probably not a good idea, though, i've seen oil spills just a couple of meters from the car park... anyway, i enjoyed my visit here and found the cache after some bush bashing. TFTC!
Found as a part of a previous group TanjackMüley, aka WanderingSparrow. Now I'm continuing on my own. TFTC
Gps was showing us a tree around 5-10meters away and with no signal helping us on our phones, stream was low but Bush walking barefoot wasn’t to bad. Found within few minutes of searching. Tftc

Stream was very low today. Strolled down the stream to a relatively quick find. TFTC.

The plan was to enter Ninety Mile Beach from here but when we get to the carpark the road is closed. But we walked here and through the swampy stuff to snag this one. no sand here but heaps over there. Cheers
Its Tuesday - day Four - Cape Reinga - Cape Maria Van Diemen - Kaitaia.
Its another epic 4 week geocaching adventure with The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and Willam to the Far North. What an amazing place to explore. Lots of walks, gravel roads and sand. Lots of amazing trees, beaches and interesting POIs. Lots of kilometers traveled by vehicle and foot. Vehicle breakdowns, making new friends and catching up with old friends and family. Snagged a couple of FTF's, lots of lonely caches and the odd event along the way. Lots of cache maintenance and replaced caches on this trip. But what an incredible adventure!!. Thanks to all the CO's who have made this trip so memorable..

One of the primary requirements for an hourglass (or even a threeminuteglass) is that the sand is very dry. And this sand sure is! Sheesh it is hot! Except for this cache. Thanks to Just Floundering for picking a cool area out of the sun for the cache, even though it was a little boggy getting to it. Lots of bees droning above doing their thing with the kanuka flowers.
Enjoyed the walk to down the stream to keeping my feet cool, and having a play in the sand after.
Gets a favourite .
Day four of an awesome, tiring, long, four week holiday geocaching with Taybeedragon in the upper north. A second day mucking about the Aopouri Peninsula. The whole trip comprised of hours of walking on sand, sliding down sand dunes, hundreds of kilometres of unsealed roads, car breakdowns, paddling out to islands, dolphins, goats, events, FTFs, weird boulders. You name it, we saw it. Lots of bisons, lots of cache maintenance, lots of sunscreen. A month is enough. I am glad to be back home. Except that now I have to write up my trip. We averaged just 20 caches per day, but that is still a lot of logging!

Northland Day 2: Drove up from Hokianga to Cape Reinga and back down to Doubtless Bay to stay the night. Today’s drive is a really, really long one, and I am glad for these caches that break the monotony of the drive. Many park and grabs today due to the lack of time, would have really liked to do some of the better ones. That being said, many nice ECs along the way and a lot of amazing views and sights seen today.
The following is the specific log for each cache:
Phew! This was quite a challenge to get to, but it was good fun. The stream was easy to walk in if your shoes are waterproof, and a nice big cache is always fun to uncover. TFTC!

Had a really nice walk amongst the sand dunes. Found cache with no signal but with compass.
After tiring out the kids going up and down the sand dunes I had some time to look for this cache. Walked through the stream and then approached GZ. Luckily GPS is working quite well here so found the container easy enough. Great cache setup. TFTC
What a great way to approach a cache! The stream is so comfortable to walk down with bare feet. The cache was found quickly asGPS and hint were good. An FP and TFTC
Also this is my 2000th cache!

We were on the road again (to Cape Reinga) and stopped for little containers. What a stunning landscape. Tftc
nice walk down the stream and after a quick look i found it. really nice location to hide a cache with the dunes so close. TftC

We came down from top of the dune and overcame the river. I did not want to put on shoes. These trees emit some odd fluid, so it looks like that burned underneath. We found the box seamlessly.
Thanks for it.

Sešli jsme přímo na úpatí duny a překonali říčku. Moc se mi nechtělo obouvat si boty. Tyhle stromy vypouštějí nějakou zvláštní látku, takže to pod nimi vypadá, jako by tu hořelo. Box jsme ale našli zcela v pořádku.
Díky za něj.

After my NZL vacation in 2004, I returned this year for the second time. I spent three weeks travelling the North and the South Island with two good friends.
First sand, then water, at least wood....
Thanks for the cache at this fantastic location.

After we spent the night at the northern most campground we drove back south. It was one of the best camgrounds we stayed at, not too expensiv and a nice beach right infront of the tent. On our way we stopped as usual for a few caches.
Of course we wanted to see the giant sand dunes. Unfortunatly we were to early to rent a board, so we had to explore them by foot. It was very windy and we got a lot of sand in our eyes. Now we know again why we don't like sand that much
After exploring the dunes we went directly down to this cache, barefeet of course. We found it after a while. I think that was our first cache we found barefeet. Nice experience.
Thank you very much for this nice cache!

Perfect day for a beautiful stream walk. not so cold and not so hot. As we were walking bare foot, i was bit worried about the access to GZ, but it was not as bad as the spirits bay walk. I always have some special love for ammo cans as I think they always have a more intense story to say. tftc.

Didn't have any egg timers with us, sadly. Maybe we should have **dispatched** a handful of sand to home for this purpose
The walk on the stream was so nice that we opted for continuing it and going all the way to the beach. Didn't risk driving with FWD, although that would probably have been a great adventure, having a good or bad ending - either way
Thanks for the cache!

A long time in the planning but this "once in a lifetime" holiday has finally come to fruition and will see us travelling around as much of New Zealand as we can manage in six weeks. This is not a caching trip, Yvonne doesn't participate but she does tolerate, so I hope to pick up a few here and there. And it's great to get away from the English Winter!
Day 38
Today we took the Cape Reinga & 90 Mile Beach tour from Pahia, a bit of a marathon day out but a good. The only question was whether I would get the opportunity to nab any caches. Yep! Managed three.
We stopped for the dune surfing. Going down looked fun but getting up far too much like very hard work, so I waked a quarter of a mile upstream to grab this one, an easy find once at GZ.
BaSHful.

Once in a lifetime we wanted to travel to the other side of the world. This year we took a chance and made a 4 weeks trip to New Zealand! Although caching was not the main purpose, we had our GPS prepared and when we were close to a cache, we of course looked for it and logged it. So we found several dozens of "kiwi-caches" and want to thank all the owners!!
Our trip today lead us to the very north. Since we took a bus tour, we were limited today to the caches where our busdriver decided to make a stop. This was such a place. While the other boarded down the dunes in approx. 600m distance, I took a chance and eft for this cache. Fast find at a very cool place - thanks for showing, placing and maintaining!!

Fine went up the dune, wopica went left around and found the ammobox.
Luckily there was a pencil. Fine had the stamp and biro, so just penciled in.
Later wopica climbed the dune from there and found his Fine.
She had filled some mint-boxes with sand, the first one early this morning at the east coast with the sand that made strange noise while walking on it.
Spend around 2 hrs here. Nice views.

The summer holiday this year was to visit the far North. We decided to take our time and travel with just short trips and stop over to visit friends/relatives rather than one big long drive through to Whangarei, so there was a little time allowed for geocaching, although this was fairly restricted. We planned a couple of longer stays at campsites where we used our tent and at other times we were at friends or cabins/motels. Some of the caches took us to a little out of the way places but these were really worthwhile, while others we discovered and visited and as luck would have it there was also a cache! The logging of these cache has had to wait until we got to relatives, on the whole.
This is a fairly generic log with additional notes about individual caches that had something extra that remained in my memory.
Thanks for the cache and another smiley face.

Stopped here on our way up the stream after a drive up the beach from Ahipara this morning. No problems finding the cache and its good to see a high-quality container used for it. All clean and like new inside. Signed log, TFTC!
Found it after a fun afternoon riding down the dunes. Such an incredible area! Thanks from Canada.
During our visit to Northland we visited also this wonderful place. Very special, the dunes and the green trees directly nearby.
And I wanted to find this cache, so we "went" throught the water. And when I go to the bush - without shoes It was not so easy but finally I was successful!
Happy to get this cache at this wonderful place - and I will give him a fav-point!

Revisiting the area, this time with sveppi for whom it's a first. Don't have 4WD this time so we walk in from the carpark. I'm not sure if the stream was higher when I first found this cache 3 1/2 years ago or if I was just real dopey but sveppi found a way to get there with only getting the soles of our boots wet. Back then I had to wade to my knees to get to the cache! At least it was summer!
Anyways, still a great hide and my kind of caching. Still worth the favourite point I gave it back then, thanks!

Up in Northland for a little winter break with fanfan-77. We visited the Cape today and headed out to see the dunes on the way back. No 4WD for us so we are on foot. Fun anyway. It was said that wet feet/pants would be involved with this one (fanfan-77 found it years ago) but not so.. crossed the stream at a wide point and no problems. Great hide and the area is cool. Well worth it to place a cache here. Thanks for the hide + favourite point
It was time to vist the Far North seeing that the last time I was up this way was back in 1978. A few things have changed in the last 37 years.
A nice walk down the stream in bare feet but was a little tender-footed getting to the GZ.
Cheers for the cache.

On our tour through New Zealand we visited many inspiring places, enjoyed delicious meals, met friendly locals and tourist AND found some Caches.
So this Cache was one on our trip. Thanks a lot for hiding and maintaining.

On a mission this weekend with Cats&Dragons, with a the main goals of reaching Cape Reinga to find the Virtual caches up there and the 35 and 36 degree South challenges, plus with anything else in between. We had a great time touring around Northland, and it is a pretty spectacular place. Being from Southern Northland, it has reminded me that I need to visit this place more.
The initial plan was to head up the west coast and on to Ninety Mile Beach (which was a huge highlight of the trip) and then down the east coast, but the plan was flexible depending on progress. We mostly achieved our ambitious plan, but due to time restraints had to cut back a bit from the planned list. If we had another day I think we would of achieved most of what we had planned.
Some of the figures for the trip were, 1600km's travelled in a 48 hour period, 37 hours of caching, 4 hours of sleep, and 7 hours driving up from Hamilton and back, with a total of 176 caches found!!
Thanks to all the CO's for placing these caches and showing us around Northland.
Really enjoyed the trip down the beach, thou not actually having 4WD did make it a little nerve racking. Parked the car on some hard sand and were we could get a bit of a run up before tackling the rest of the stream. Quick scramble up the bank to the cache. Thanks for the hide.

This weekends little adventure was in the company of HKCB (as we'd both been given leave passes by our respective partners) so off we set.
The primary goals this weekend were to collect as many of the earthcaches as time would allow, the two virtuals, and complete both the requirements for the S35 & S36 challenges. Mind you this did not stop us working to collect anything else that we could find as time allowed.
It was a great trip with the weather playing its part so that we saw a great variety of countryside between caches and far too little sleep.
The result was 1600kms (over 48 hours), 189 caches (35 hours caching) & 4 hours sleep, not bad for a couple of beginners. Thanks to all the CO's and those that maintain the caches for us to collect on our too brief tour of the north.
Having filled up in Kaitaia, and now it was time to have fun on the beach, hope that work doesn't see these photos, Great drive up the beach with HKCB acting as "Soft Sand Spotter".
At this point we were quite glad to be off the main beach, now just to navigate the stream, this could be interesting
Thanks for the placement

I gave up pretty quick on this on after my co ordinates led me up into the bush, I decided that it looked more fun to go surfing down the dunes with the kids then lurking in the bush surrounded in spiders!
Found it during my trip from south of South Island to north of South Island.
Thanks for this cache!:)

That was so fun walking down the stream, shoes in the hand. Good idea to bring the shoes, as the cache was to be found on dry land.
It is in well shape, waiting for the next ones.

Found together with gpsylvi on our amazing, one month is way to short, camper tour! TFTC and greetings from Austria
On our [trip around the world](http://www.hoppundweg.piekar.de/) we came to New Zealand as well. We first visited the south Island, then we came to the north island. We searched many caches and found almost every cache we searched for . Thanks to all the owners of these caches. Now, 2 years later, we recognized, we will never be able to log every cache seperately... So: Sorry for this standard logtext and thanks for one of the caches, which accompanied us on our journey.
Today we vistited the Te Paki Dunes and of course we made this short sidetrip to the cache. To get the cache it was a little bit hard, because the vegetation was a little bit dense. After signing the logbook we went back to the car and drove northwards to the Spirit Bay. Thanks a lot for the cache.
