The great Frog'n'cat adventure of '22... continues around the Gammons. (Vulkathunha)
There were some scenic photos. 4wd low was engaged.
We did look for boxes in the bush of course !!! Priorities
These were a challenging start to a long day! "A chimney stack" didn't really feel like "easy climbing" but a "constant slope" sounded possible. Not exactly a walk in the park
Much climbing over rocks and plants gave some elevation and amazing views. More photos were taken, and Mr Froghoppin soon located the prize Even more photos were taken...
After some thought about the rest of the day, we decided to leave the other ones for later or another day. One pinnacle achievement per day hey [:o)]
Many thanks to The Arkaroo for placing and maintaining this cache on our geo-travel map

Up in the donga, searching, spotting and signing cache logs with Purrfect Di, Jack, and the Froghoppin Duo, using some or all of the resources of GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife), Whereyougo, Garmin Montana 750i, Montana 680t, Etrex 35, Samsung S21u, Samsung S9, with Geocaching App, c:Geo, or Geooh Go, and Android Auto and other maps... or often with just plain old dumb luck Plenty of that luck stuff actually !!!
*Logs are composed and published with love using GSAK of course.*

Caching is a very hazardous activity!
Watch out for sand traps, snakes, surprise cliffs, boxing roos, wombats, things falling from trees, bulldust, and floods, and sharp rocks in your tyres
try not to get tetanus from rusty mint tins and don't fall off your ladder...
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- but especially lookout for germs and bugs !!! . [xx(]
Make Travel Bugs the Only bugs you share and pass on
Now that there are no real restrictions - even more important to sanitise and safely distance!!!
Heaps good of all those placing quality caches out and about around the countryside areas,
in sensible safe places especially! - it keeps our game safe, fun, and interesting
Thanks so much for reading all this extra addition to the log word count! There's a challenge somewhere out there, apparently! You win a virtual smiley for the effort and getting to the end of the log Maybe if I worked out where I could do it and go back to normal logs again !

Then came Covid-19 and caching began to take a back seat.
But with restrictions easing and socially responsible caching again possible it is time to start filling the calendars again.
Seven cachers set off in Four 4WD vehicles using satellites to search for caches in and around Arkaroola and the Gammon Ranges. [^] The Six day Arkaroola Odyssey had begun.
DAY 3: More Pinnacles
We came and saw the pictures of how the experienced did it and saw the chimney crack. Nope around to the east for the gentler slope for us. [^] Still a rock scramble but didn't take all that long to get to the summit. [^] Once there the GPS took us all over the place but we soon had the cache in hand. Now for the other climbs. FP for yet another great cache and location.
***Thanks The Arkaroo for putting out this cache and maintaining it for our enjoyment. ***
Logs prepared and published through GSAK.

Warning, this hobby can be addictive. It can lead to exercise, meeting new people and finding interesting places you might not have known existed otherwise. Beware: you may have fun.
A bit of 4 whell driving, lot's of dust and for me 3 punctures. These cut my trip short by a couple of days.
Nice location.

The main aim was to find the caches in and around Arkaroola and the Vulkathunna-Gammon Ranges National Park. These were mostly Traditionals, but also included a Multi and an Earthcache. There were also three older Traditional caches that had been archived a couple of years ago but were still in place.
We had some fun navigating around the various roads and 4WD tracks and walking and scrambling up and down the hills and creek lines. It certainly is a very spectacular and rugged part of the state.
The weather was pretty good with a few beautiful still, clear and sunny days although there were also a couple of very windy days.. The nights were mostly cold though, with temperatures around zero degrees on a couple of nights.
All of the cache containers and logbooks found were in good condition.
This cache was as found on the third day of our trip. I was close by here a couple of years ago but was on my own with only limited time and was only prepared to visit ‘The Other Pinnacle’. It was great to be able to return here with a group to find this and the other cache nearby.
Thanks The Arkaroo for the cache.
Fantastic spot that we loved exploring.
Cache discovered in a good condition.
Didn't realise there was another cache on the other Pinnacle... so close but yet so far...

This was our third find for today... and others that visit this location should make the effort up to the other two nearby caches :c) It is well worth the trek!! We wandered around the pinnacle, finding the easiest approach on the farthest side... where there seems to be a faint track to follow. Many visitors would have climbed this Pinnacle without knowing about geocaching... which makes us thinking about all the places we have been before we became aware of the addictive hobby!! :cP Good coordinates made for a quick find. Signed an replaced as found :c) Thanks for bringing us here Arkaroo... TFTC and the adventure!!
S 30° 17.823 E 139° 18.615
Coordinates changed to:
S 30° 17.822 E 139° 18.618
Distance from original: 19 feet or 5.8 meters.
Coordinates updated, after we had to search ourselves for 45 mins. the old coords were pointing too far into empty space. happy caching

[red]Outback Tour on L-Plates[/red]
At this situation, it is fair to log a 'fond it' as a cacheowner, as it took us 45 minutes to find it again! I may have realized the thour we hided it, the coords were not that accurate, for what reason ever, but now it was clear, pinting to the deep drop towards empty space. And even the cache container must have crept in location - it was not set up as I remembered it. So, we may leave it as it is, now, making a few changes to the listing:
- update coordinates from S 30° 17.823 E 139° 18.615 to S 30° 17.822 E 139°
- update the hint
* from: "On top of the pinnacle. between rocks, carefully covered by a movable rock."
* to: "On top of the pinnacle. underneath a fixed rock, loose rocks sideways"
Otherwise, all is perfect: Brilliant cache container, made out of stainless steel. The logbook may have taken little moisture over the years, but all is functional. We signed the log and took pictures of all logs - interesting read!
RockSandra almost drove the entire way from Sydney on L-plates, to make up her driving hours. We allowed four days to get to Arkaroola. As we're only two of us, we had space in the car to take the rock-climbing gear, and first thing off to is The Pinnacles. We had a traditional climb with nuts, friends and slings on the southern face of the pinnacle, starting slightly east. I climbed first, while RockSandra belayed well, and then followed. I was nice and airy, she said scary - feeling well. Left an entry at TheCrag.com. One of our favorite days in the area, as any day was favorite!
Plenty of steel containers in the car, so we aim for placing some more challenges. The Other Pinnacle is only 180m away, and from there, same distance the Sitting Bull, but it doesn't matter in which order you make them, it remains all the same effort. With this said, keep watching out, for Happy Caching!

We will have 3 nights at Arkoola - the place of contrasts. No phone reception, fast broadband. No fresh milk, great lattes. Terrible roads, amazing sights.
Today we headed off to the Nooldoonooldoona waterholes with the intention of trying to find the 3 caches but not sure if our mountain goat skills were up to it. Fortunately they were - well Mr Morris' anyway. He was up there in no time at all but took a long time to find the cache - eventually he did and he rescued the coin. That's an amazing bit of rock.

Beautiful spot anyway, even without caching a great destination to explore!
What an extraordinarily beautiful place!

We love this country, the remoteness, harshness and beauty of it all rolled in together makes its quite special. This location is awesome and picture postcard perfect.
Bowz2 loves any cache with a bit of rock climbing for him to have some fun. This became an adventure in its own right!
I had reservations right from the beginning looking at it and going oh no here we go!! Bowz2 scoped out from the car park an “easy” route to the top on the eastern side of the pinnacle and off we went. What he saw as easy and what he started to head up were two different paths. I had the good sense not to watch Bowz2 summit. I followed him half way up and then retreated to look for the original 'easy' way up.
Bowz2 found the cache container logged the find and down climbed a different way that wasn’t much easier, only to find me on the originally planned route on my way up, thinking to myself, 'isn't this easier!, but knowing Bowz2, easy just spoils his fun!!
Bowz2 climbed to the top (again) with Mags2, took some photos / enjoyed the view and climbed back down easily, all the time being watched by amazed walkers / tourists who probably thought we were crazy and may be right!
Thanks for a great cache! And great adventure!

AND any cache with a bit of rock climbing for Bowz2 to have some fun with makes it a cache Bowz2 HAS to do and considers fantastic caches.
This became an adventure in its own right!
Mags2 had reservations right from the beginning looking at it and going oh no here we go again!!
And rightly so as there have been some “epics” Bowz2 still has to live down from the “real climbing” we have done over the years...
Not to be talked out of it Bowz2 scoped out from the car park an “easy” route to the top on the eastern side of the pinnacle and off we went.
As per previous rock-climbing epics Bowz2 ended up way off route (some cool moves this way Mags) and topped out with a very exposed grade 12 or 13 move up onto the top of the pinnacle in sloppy old sandshoes and a back pack on, on the southern side of the pinnacle (NOT planned or advised without ropes!!)
[xx(]
Mags2 had the good sense not to watch Bowz2 summit and to retreat to look for an easier way up.
Bowz2 found the cache container logged the find and down climbed a different way that wasn’t much easier, (complete with a hold that pulled off and nearly caused a fall!) only to find Mags2 on the originally planned route on her way easily to the top... [8)]

Thanks for a great cache! And great adventure!
Headed of to the Pinnacles with thongs on...not the way find caches, so retreated and came back in the afternoon with boots on.
Worked out the easiest way to do the climb.
It was great when we reached the top, found the cache.
Then we got ourselves down safely.
We must be showing our age.

We had headed out to this side of Arkaroola hoping to pick up a few first to finds but alas we must have taken a bit too long getting ready in the morning as we missed out on all of them.
The walk in to this proved too hard for the geomissus who decided to slip over and skin both her knees and then the little geocacher kept on crying and wanting to go back to the car.
Not a good start.
However the climb up to the cache was easy enough and once up on top I found the cache quite easily only to find out that I had been beaten by someone else earlier the same day.
As it was still only 9 am I knew that all the other finds would have been done as well, so we slowed down and just enjoyed our day driving around instead of hurrying to try and find caches.
This cache gets a favourite point from me as the view from up top is worth the climb.

The team at Arkaroola campground became already pretty exhausted after the past days, so only Savoy Truffle and I could get on the socks (I do not wear) - actually, these hides are the reason I came out here! Only a short one, today! After Savoy Truffle saw all these splendors of nature, the short trip went for the whole day
First in the morning, up here to hide the cache and leave altogether four travel bugs. Few roos on the way, the gray and the yellow footed rock wallaby. We took the western route, which was in shade and brought up enough energy, this hot day, to pose for photos and climb behind the kangaroos. Fantastic rock - though I never made it with my climbing gear; always a freeclimb. On top, we enjoyed the views and looked for the best spot for a hide - where hopefully not all muggle stumbles over the thing.
Way down to The Blue Desert Drive, Savoy Truffle realized, he forgot to leave the pouch for his travel bug. Sorry. So after all the other adventures of the day, we came back again to fix this - this time, I took the eastern wall to climb. Yeah, still everything in place - for an eternity!
Hope, you cachers like this one, and don't forget to seek the others in the area.
