I told myself after reading the details of these caches in this area that people our age should be sitting at our camp-site reading a book! Day 1: scaled the hill before breakfast to get GZ 1. Day 2: 15.2km hike. Day 3: 8km hike. While on this hike, we were so close to a GZ that we couldn't resist climbing up to find it, enjoy the view, then try not to worry about getting down safely! We live to tell the tale, unscathed and then continued our hike. Happy to have signed the log.

The great Frog'n'cat adventure of '22... continues around the Gammons. (Vulkathunha)

There were some scenic photos. 4wd low was engaged. Cool
We did look for boxes in the bush of course !!! Priorities Wink

These were a challenging start to a long day! "A chimney stack" didn't really feel like "easy climbing" but a "constant slope" sounded possible. Twisted Not exactly a walk in the park Surprised
Much climbing over rocks and plants gave some elevation and amazing views. More photos were taken, and Mr Froghoppin soon located the prize Big Grin Even more photos were taken...
After some thought about the rest of the day, we decided to leave the other ones for later or another day. One pinnacle achievement per day hey [:o)]

Many thanks to The Arkaroo for placing and maintaining this cache on our geo-travel map Cool

Caching is a very hazardous activity!
Watch out for sand traps, snakes, surprise cliffs, boxing roos, wombats, things falling from trees, bulldust, and floods, and sharp rocks in your tyres Surprised
try not to get tetanus from rusty mint tins and don't fall off your ladder...
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- but especially lookout for germs and bugs !!! . [xx(]

Make Travel Bugs the Only bugs you share and pass on Big Grin
Now that there are no real restrictions - even more important to sanitise and safely distance!!!

Heaps good of all those placing quality caches out and about around the countryside areas,
in sensible safe places especially! - it keeps our game safe, fun, and interesting Cool

Thanks so much for reading all this extra addition to the log word count! There's a challenge somewhere out there, apparently! You win a virtual smiley for the effort and getting to the end of the log Wink Maybe if I worked out where I could do it and go back to normal logs again !

Another day exploring some tracks around Arkaroola with Mattycat and Perfect DI, was a big day some challenging tracks and a lot of bouncing around, this was our first stop and involved a climb, once we circled around the back the easier assent was seen and after a little clambering up the final bit of rock we were at the top for some magnificent views, once the heart rate calmed down we zeroed in on GZ for a easy find

Took some time to stop by here before leaving Arkaroola this morning Smile. Once at the carpark, realised we wouldn't have time to do all 3 of these, so chose this one as the most interesting Razz.
Followed the trail around and planned our way up [8] - even Mrs DISK made it to the top [^]!
Great views and sense of achievement, having made it to GZ Cool.

We took the easier path up and found the cache reasonabley easy, although the gps wasn't being overly cooperative. We took a different route down as we decided we would head for the 2nd one in the area.

I started 2020 with some improbable caching goals that only lasted until mid February. Red Face
Then came Covid-19 and caching began to take a back seat. Twisted
But with restrictions easing and socially responsible caching again possible it is time to start filling the calendars again. Wink

Seven cachers set off in Four 4WD vehicles using satellites to search for caches in and around Arkaroola and the Gammon Ranges. [^] The Six day Arkaroola Odyssey had begun. Cool

DAY 3: More Pinnacles
We came and saw the pictures of how the experienced did it and saw the chimney crack. Nope around to the east for the gentler slope for us. [^] Still a rock scramble but didn't take all that long to get to the summit. [^] Once there the GPS took us all over the place but we soon had the cache in hand. Smile Now for the other climbs. FP for yet another great cache and location.

***Thanks The Arkaroo for putting out this cache and maintaining it for our enjoyment. *** Big Grin

We have headed north for some serious 4WD in Arkaroola and the Gammons. Today is Wednesday and we are on the bull dust ridden road/track/trail/rock filled creek bed at the Pinnacles car park. Cache was found in the last place we looked, which as usual was not the first place we looked. Thanks for placing a fun cache guys. We do love your work. We signed the logbook. Of course we did that is way we play this game. Cache in pretty good condition for the cache age.

Found during a caching trip to Arkaroola and the Vulkathunna-Gammon Ranges National Park in the northern Flinders Ranges. Really enjoyed the spectacular landscapes, the 4WD tracks, and the walking and rock-climbing in the quest for some challenging caches in a remote region of the State. Thanks for the cache The Arkaroo + Savoy Truffle!

Away for a caching trip to the Arkaroola area.

A bit of 4 whell driving, lot's of dust and for me 3 punctures. These cut my trip short by a couple of days.

Nice location.

22-Jul-20
This week a small group of us headed up from Adelaide to the northern Flinders Ranges to do some exploring and find a few caches. Although a couple of us had spent some time in the area before, it was new country to most of the group.

The main aim was to find the caches in and around Arkaroola and the Vulkathunna-Gammon Ranges National Park. These were mostly Traditionals, but also included a Multi and an Earthcache. There were also three older Traditional caches that had been archived a couple of years ago but were still in place.

We had some fun navigating around the various roads and 4WD tracks and walking and scrambling up and down the hills and creek lines. It certainly is a very spectacular and rugged part of the state.

The weather was pretty good with a few beautiful still, clear and sunny days although there were also a couple of very windy days.. The nights were mostly cold though, with temperatures around zero degrees on a couple of nights.

All of the cache containers and logbooks found were in good condition.

This cache was as found on the third day of our trip. I was close by here a couple of years ago but was on my own with only limited time and was only prepared to visit ‘The Other Pinnacle’. It was great to be able to return here with a group to find this and the other cache nearby.

Thanks The Arkaroo for the cache.

Found at 17.00 with Olga. Actually, Olga waited at the bottom while Stephen climbed up. A spectacular view just short of sunset. A bit too close to sunset to visit the other two nearby caches - they had to wait until the next day.

found with jacknor after getting the campier tralier temp repaired after taking the arkaroola back track in. Who thinks a 4x4 campier tralier should be held together with roofing nails, not bolts? The campier bit and tralier and now rejoined. Easier drive out here in the daylight not towing. Also less animals hopping around this morning but still saw some on the walk here. Took the easier route up the pinnacle and jacknor made it up as well. Took some pics and gave the cache some love after 18 months.

After fairing the gale force winds and storm of the night, we were overjoyed to wake to clear blue skies!!! Still windy at about 40-50km/h, we didn't really care as it was the first opportunity this trip to stretch the legs! What a fantastic spot! We just loved this as our early moning walk and first MANY sightings of the Yellow Footed Wallaby. Finding a pretty easy way up from the back, we took a few panos at the summit before finding the cache. A little tricky with so many places to look! TFTC!!!!

We were given the opportunity to get away over the Easter break for an extended long weekend. Arkaroola has been a location we have always wanted visit and explore! Mid last year we got our hands on a wicked little 4x4 capable of such journeys! After a few weeks of planning, we left the city behind us and headed north.

This was our third find for today... and others that visit this location should make the effort up to the other two nearby caches :c) It is well worth the trek!! We wandered around the pinnacle, finding the easiest approach on the farthest side... where there seems to be a faint track to follow. Many visitors would have climbed this Pinnacle without knowing about geocaching... which makes us thinking about all the places we have been before we became aware of the addictive hobby!! :cP Good coordinates made for a quick find. Signed an replaced as found :c) Thanks for bringing us here Arkaroo... TFTC and the adventure!!

[red]Outback Tour on L-Plates[/red]

At this situation, it is fair to log a 'fond it' as a cacheowner, as it took us 45 minutes to find it again! I may have realized the thour we hided it, the coords were not that accurate, for what reason ever, but now it was clear, pinting to the deep drop towards empty space. And even the cache container must have crept in location - it was not set up as I remembered it. So, we may leave it as it is, now, making a few changes to the listing:

- update coordinates from S 30° 17.823 E 139° 18.615 to S 30° 17.822 E 139°

- update the hint

* from: "On top of the pinnacle. between rocks, carefully covered by a movable rock."
* to: "On top of the pinnacle. underneath a fixed rock, loose rocks sideways"

Otherwise, all is perfect: Brilliant cache container, made out of stainless steel. The logbook may have taken little moisture over the years, but all is functional. We signed the log and took pictures of all logs - interesting read!

RockSandra almost drove the entire way from Sydney on L-plates, to make up her driving hours. We allowed four days to get to Arkaroola. As we're only two of us, we had space in the car to take the rock-climbing gear, and first thing off to is The Pinnacles. We had a traditional climb with nuts, friends and slings on the southern face of the pinnacle, starting slightly east. I climbed first, while RockSandra belayed well, and then followed. I was nice and airy, she said scary - feeling well. Left an entry at TheCrag.com. One of our favorite days in the area, as any day was favorite!

Plenty of steel containers in the car, so we aim for placing some more challenges. The Other Pinnacle is only 180m away, and from there, same distance the Sitting Bull, but it doesn't matter in which order you make them, it remains all the same effort. With this said, keep watching out, for Happy Caching!

We are heading across to the Flinders Ranges on a 2 week sojourn. We don't intend to do a lot of caching but will try and pick up a few along the way.
We will have 3 nights at Arkoola - the place of contrasts. No phone reception, fast broadband. No fresh milk, great lattes. Terrible roads, amazing sights.

Today we headed off to the Nooldoonooldoona waterholes with the intention of trying to find the 3 caches but not sure if our mountain goat skills were up to it. Fortunately they were - well Mr Morris' anyway. He was up there in no time at all but took a long time to find the cache - eventually he did and he rescued the coin. That's an amazing bit of rock.

What an amazing cache. I do love a good climb. It turns out that Bek-theraccoon and I had our photos taken on the top of the Pinnacles by not one but three groups of passers by. Our tip is to walk around the pinnacles to find the best way to the top. TFTC

This cache was one of our trip favourites for the adventure to reach GZ. Having read the log, I decided on the eastern approach and the squirrel the western approach. On following a goat track around I accidentally ended up working my way up the southern side. I got around half way before getting stuck. Back down, further around and I managed to scramble up the east. Meanwhile the squirrel had found his way up on the NE side. A much easier approach! That being said, the very easiest was the one we took down - NW. Hope that helps someone! Anyway, the cache was found quickly and is in good condition. I also dropped in a pretty compass rose Geocoin for a future visitor to grab. Brought it up from Adelaide. TFTC Arkaroo and co Smile

Beautiful spot anyway, even without caching a great destination to explore!

DNF although more truthfully, did not complete the attempt. The Pinnacles cache was on top of a very steep rocky outcrop, and the wind is still ferocious after last night. B2 tried from one side, and I tried from the other, but the wind and lateness of the day decided against attempting to complete the climb. Spectacular views though, and really enjoyed coming here.

Today's forecast for Leigh Creek was for 40 deg. so it was certainly hot here but I decided to at least walk down to the base of the Pinnacle to check it out. Unfortunately I then walked ACW around it which added quite a bit to the approach. Having made it that far I decided to go all the way and was rewarded with a brief sighting of a wallaby at the top. I zeroed in on GZ and was initially concerned that the cache was possibly placed one step further than I was prepared to go. Fortunately that was not the case and I was very pleased to sign the log and then enjoy the view. TFTC.

October Long weekend spent in the Gammons with Bowz2
We love this country, the remoteness, harshness and beauty of it all rolled in together makes its quite special. This location is awesome and picture postcard perfect.
Bowz2 loves any cache with a bit of rock climbing for him to have some fun. This became an adventure in its own right!

I had reservations right from the beginning looking at it and going oh no here we go!! Bowz2 scoped out from the car park an “easy” route to the top on the eastern side of the pinnacle and off we went. What he saw as easy and what he started to head up were two different paths. I had the good sense not to watch Bowz2 summit. I followed him half way up and then retreated to look for the original 'easy' way up.
Bowz2 found the cache container logged the find and down climbed a different way that wasn’t much easier, only to find me on the originally planned route on my way up, thinking to myself, 'isn't this easier!, but knowing Bowz2, easy just spoils his fun!!

Bowz2 climbed to the top (again) with Mags2, took some photos / enjoyed the view and climbed back down easily, all the time being watched by amazed walkers / tourists who probably thought we were crazy and may be right!
Thanks for a great cache! And great adventure!

Mags2 had reservations right from the beginning looking at it and going oh no here we go again!! Surprised
And rightly so as there have been some “epics” Bowz2 still has to live down from the “real climbing” we have done over the years... Red Face
Not to be talked out of it Bowz2 scoped out from the car park an “easy” route to the top on the eastern side of the pinnacle and off we went.
As per previous rock-climbing epics Bowz2 ended up way off route (some cool moves this way Mags) and topped out with a very exposed grade 12 or 13 move up onto the top of the pinnacle in sloppy old sandshoes and a back pack on, on the southern side of the pinnacle (NOT planned or advised without ropes!!)

Mags2 had the good sense not to watch Bowz2 summit and to retreat to look for an easier way up.Wink

Staying at Arkaroola for a week, so going to do as many caches as possible
Headed of to the Pinnacles with thongs on...not the way find caches, so retreated and came back in the afternoon with boots on.

It was great when we reached the top, found the cache.
Then we got ourselves down safely.

Silver place for me.
We had headed out to this side of Arkaroola hoping to pick up a few first to finds but alas we must have taken a bit too long getting ready in the morning as we missed out on all of them.

The walk in to this proved too hard for the geomissus who decided to slip over and skin both her knees and then the little geocacher kept on crying and wanting to go back to the car.
Not a good start.

However the climb up to the cache was easy enough and once up on top I found the cache quite easily only to find out that I had been beaten by someone else earlier the same day.
As it was still only 9 am I knew that all the other finds would have been done as well, so we slowed down and just enjoyed our day driving around instead of hurrying to try and find caches.

This cache gets a favourite point from me as the view from up top is worth the climb.

The Pinnacles - the first of three caches hidden today, besides Nooldoonooldoona and Bollabollana - my most hiding day! After Welcome Mine yesterday and Bararranna Gorge on New Years Day.

The team at Arkaroola campground became already pretty exhausted after the past days, so only Savoy Truffle and I could get on the socks (I do not wear) - actually, these hides are the reason I came out here! Only a short one, today! After Savoy Truffle saw all these splendors of nature, the short trip went for the whole day Smile

First in the morning, up here to hide the cache and leave altogether four travel bugs. Few roos on the way, the gray and the yellow footed rock wallaby. We took the western route, which was in shade and brought up enough energy, this hot day, to pose for photos and climb behind the kangaroos. Fantastic rock - though I never made it with my climbing gear; always a freeclimb. On top, we enjoyed the views and looked for the best spot for a hide - where hopefully not all muggle stumbles over the thing.

Way down to The Blue Desert Drive, Savoy Truffle realized, he forgot to leave the pouch for his travel bug. Sorry. So after all the other adventures of the day, we came back again to fix this - this time, I took the eastern wall to climb. Yeah, still everything in place - for an eternity!

Hope, you cachers like this one, and don't forget to seek the others in the area.
