thought we were on the right level and trajectory, unfortunetly no luck for us today. will return in a couple years as we have a couple we missed

We tried and failed. Climbed up at least 5-6m above old water line but didn’t see it. Wasn’t safe to climb higher for us. Hard spot to get an ambulance to. Not sure if the large floods in April would’ve washed it away? Lovely location.

Using Arkarloola Village as a base, decided to do some exploration to the north today, continuing up into Mt Freeling Station Razz.
Had a look at this one on our way back to camp, but didn't have the confidence to get around that rock (probably the same one that stopped Astro) Razz. Self preservation told me the chance of a fall is not worth a cache find Twisted.
Checking other logs now at home, it looks like we may have been looking in the wrong spot anyway [B)].
Thanks for the challenge The Arkaroo + Savoy Truffle. Next visit may be different Wink.

My husband went for the climb to find this one while I looked on from below. He didn't find anything nearby to open it with but he had his new multitool with him so that came in handy.
Lots of dead wallabies nearby.

You pwned us n00bs.

We will return.

I looked and I think I could see where this one was. So across and up I went.

A man has to know his limitations. Who said that!!??[?] I tried and figured I was close but the cache was not there. I had a good look but chickened out at the though of what might happen if I went to the next level where it might be. Doing this alone was a little crazy so a DNF it was. Sad

Thanks to The Arkaroo and **clear skies** from TeamAstro. [^] Cache the planet!

I started 2020 with some improbable caching goals that only lasted until mid February. Red Face
Then came Covid-19 and caching began to take a back seat. Twisted
But with restrictions easing and socially responsible caching again possible it is time to start filling the calendars again. Wink

Seven cachers set off in Four 4WD vehicles using satellites to search for caches in and around Arkaroola and the Gammon Ranges. [^] The Six day Arkaroola Odyssey had begun. Cool

DAY 3: More Pinnacles
But first a visit to this waterhole. Mostly dry at the moment it was a graveyard for dozens of wallabies. Twisted The way up to the cache was obvious and the younger and less rotund of us was quickly past the protruding rock that prevented me getting to the face I wanted to be at. Observe and guide...not what I like to do. [:(!] After trying too high to start we guided back to a lower level where the cache was found. Smile Still a spectacular spot for a cache.

***Thanks The Arkaroo for putting out this cache and maintaining it for our enjoyment. *** Big Grin

We have headed north for some serious 4WD in Arkaroola and the Gammons. Today is Wednesday and we are on the bull dust ridden road/track/trail/rock filled creek bed at Nooldoonooldoona. The goat (Greatest Of All Time) was sent up the rock face to find the dead rock wallaby. The cache was found in the last place we looked, which as usual was not the first place we looked. Still some water in the creek. Still an amazing location. No country for old men or old roos.

Thanks for placing a fun cache guys. We do love your work. We signed the logbook. Of course we did that is way we play this game. Cache in pretty good condition for the cache age.

Found on a fun 4WD trip in this spectacular landscape. Thanks for the cache.

Away for a caching trip to the Arkaroola area.

A bit of 4 whell driving, lot's of dust and for me 3 punctures. These cut my trip short by a couple of days.

We sent the youngster to get this one.

Found during a caching trip to Arkaroola and the Vulkathunna-Gammon Ranges National Park in the northern Flinders Ranges. Really enjoyed the spectacular landscapes, the 4WD tracks, and the walking and rock-climbing in the quest for some challenging caches in a remote region of the State. Thanks for the cache The Arkaroo + Savoy Truffle!

This week a small group of us headed up from Adelaide to the northern Flinders Ranges to do some exploring and find a few caches. Although a couple of us had spent some time in the area before, it was new country to most of the group.

The main aim was to find the caches in and around Arkaroola and the Vulkathunna-Gammon Ranges National Park. These were mostly Traditionals, but also included a Multi and an Earthcache. There were also three older Traditional caches that had been archived a couple of years ago but were still in place.

We had some fun navigating around the various roads and 4WD tracks and walking and scrambling up and down the hills and creek lines. It certainly is a very spectacular and rugged part of the state.

The weather was pretty good with a few beautiful still, clear and sunny days although there were also a couple of very windy days.. The nights were mostly cold though, with temperatures around zero degrees on a couple of nights.

All of the cache containers and logbooks found were in good condition.

This cache was found on our third day. I had visited the site with EsromL back in 2011, a few months after the cache was published, but some persistent muggles had thwarted our attempts to search for the cache. In retrospect though, I doubt that we’d have got to it then anyway.

This time it was a group effort and we had the area to ourselves. It wasn’t long before the nimble Davidwazza located the cache and we had our names in the logbook.

Thanks The Arkaroo for the cache.

Quick find while passing through with Poelypoel on our post COVID isolation Flinders and Gammons Tour.
Fantastic spot that we loved exploring.
Cache discovered in a good condition.
Staggered that there were so many dead kangaroos and wallabies around the place Sad

I'm back at Arkaroola for the 2nd time and took a Muggle Eric along with me whom loved this type of caching.
Looked twice now on 19/7/18 and 26/4/19, GPS had us at within 2-5 metres
I'd say it is not there and the amount of climbing we did and the time we spent.
The only place that had some water in the waterhole.
.

Found at 14.30 with Olga on our way back to Arkaroola Village. This is a lovely spot, one of the few waterholes which actually still has water. Unfortunately, there are many dead 'roos here - two floating in the water, and at least four carcasses just out of the water. There was even one up the cliff just near the cache.
Thanks for the cache and experience Arkaroo and Savoy Truffle. I like the way you make the climb not quite easy, but also not too hard.

Brought my mountain goat nephews who found it eventually when they looked high enough. Great spot & lots of fun finding it. TFTC! Saw lots of thirsty rock wallabies as well.

23-Mar-18
found with jacknor. I climbed around and didn't find it any where. Then i realized that this cache hasn't been found in 3 days under 2 years, so i looked in a more inconvenient place to get to. Cache was filled with 3 cm of water in the tin but that's probably condensation. log dry and 2 more stamps in it. no water here today.

23-Mar-18
found with sir_spectre while we where camping at arkaroola. sir_spectre wanted to go " rock " 4x4 driving around all the trails up here and cache as we passed them. well i wasn't even going to try and get up there, sir_spectre did the climbing on this one.

Stopped here for lunch & had a good search to no avail. Tried multiple locations but the cache evaded us this time Sad

A disappointing DNF. We spent around an hour here searching, but I suspect the cache is in one of the spots we weren't willing to go.

We were given the opportunity to get away over the Easter break for an extended long weekend. Arkaroola has been a location we have always wanted visit and explore! So we left the city behind us and headed north :c) finding geocaches along our travels!!

Another beautiful location :cD although, not much water in the waterhole. We decided to explore along the creek line before returning to the given coords to attempt this cache ;c) Reading through the cache description, we narrowed our search area to a few likely locations. With ronso navigating and giving suggestions from below, red showed off his rock climbing skills. The first choice of locations, which seemed very likely, had nothing to find. The second choice was also a fail :c( But persistence payed off... and soon the cache was in hand :cD Red carefully passed the container down to ronso to sign the logbook. Luckily we had tools on hand to assist with opening a well sealed container ;c) The cache was replaced as found. TNLN. Thanks for bringing us here Arkaroo... TFTC and the adventure!!

Nice hide. Thank you for the fun from Sydney! We enjoyed finding this one (:

Our tour from Sydney to Ayers Rock took roughly two weeks. We can't reproduce which cache we've visited at what time any more. That's why we logged all of them at the same days, so don't be confused about that (:

We are heading across to the Flinders Ranges on a 2 week sojourn. We don't intend to do a lot of caching but will try and pick up a few along the way.
We will have 3 nights at Arkoola - the place of contrasts. No phone reception, fast broadband. No fresh milk, great lattes. Terrible roads, amazing sights.

Today we headed off to the Nooldoonooldoona waterholes with the intention of trying to find the 3 caches but not sure if our mountain goat skills were up to it. Fortunately they were - well Mr Morris' anyway. He narrowed down the likely spots before heading up and his second choice was the correct one. This is a very special spot - very similar to Winjana Gorge in WA. Without the crocodiles.

We're just not having any luck at Arkaroola. Ok it's been a while since it was last found, but we spent 20 mins climbing as far as felt safe with no luck.

13-Oct-14
We were here earlier today, we didn't know there was a cache otherwise we sure would have tried to find it.
Beautiful spot anyway, even without caching a great destination to explore.

Found the spot but in able to cross narrow section and aborted but it is a lovely area

31-Jul-14
Such a lovely spot being one of the few with water. Unfortunately the high winds that made my tent almost blow away were ripping up the gorge. It was just a little bit too exciting on the narrow bit of the incline so decided to exercise some restraint. Still it's not just about numbers and this is a fantastic place so thanks for enticing me here
As a postscript, got back to camp and my robust, indestructible tent was mangled and flat on the ground. Yep, it was a bit windy.

As a new premium member we had to record this as a favourite even though it is a while since we were there. This cache was a highlight of our camping holiday for the teenagers and older 'boys'. It isn't for everyone but that's ok. It is great to have some challenge to change the pace rather than a race to see who can grab the most caches and this is such a beautiful spot. Thanks again.

23-Oct-13
Found it. Good climb up the rock face with out any problems. Would suggest that you don't try this one unless you are confident in climbing. Being tall helps and you will need steady shoes. Tftc!

27-Aug-13
dear gogo go,

sorry you could not reach the cache - however, it is a difficulty 4 - and not reaching it does not mean it needs maintenance! I understand, not everyone can walk there, but it's an easy and secure stretch for an experienced rock climber. The cahe is meant to be like this - set up by a rock climber - and no gear needed, if you feel confident. If not - please don't insist (yes, I have turned around myself many times, just before the goal, as I know my limits outdoors - that's not a shame!)

Cheers, The Arkaroo

27-Aug-13
Saw it from other side of creek using spy glass. Decided my life is worth more than a dangerous step across rock shelf just to put my name in the log book. A fall here would be fatal. Needs to be move please! Only 5-6 metres fall but depends what hits first!!

22-Aug-13
Could see it, using aids; I'm too short to reach it, plus the big step around the ledge. Definitely need to be taller, and be comfortable with exposure. I'm claiming a find, even though I couldn't sign it!

15-Aug-13
Very difficult cache, if you have bad balance and arnt confident on small ledges, I would recommend giving this one a miss!

11-Aug-13
After watching my boyfriend and fellow cacher angas5 climb all over the rock face, we eventually found it. Just as we were about to give up and one last look was in order. we didn't think that it would be so hard to find. A QUICK HINT! if your not confident with heights or balance then I would give this cache a miss! Defiantly not for the faint hearted
Moderate rock climbing skills needed i'd say!

Got to within 20m of GZ when we heard thunder and it started to rain heavy. Decided to leave cache for next time and high tail it out of here. Didnt want to be on wrong side of a creek if it flooded.

30-Sep-12
I spent ages here. Accepting that GZ was always going to be a bit ‘iffy’ I just resorted to searching ALL the places that I thought could hide a regular cache. I climbed up every crack that was within cooee of GZ, but after 6-7 attempts, had to admit defeat. I had already spent far longer here than I normally allow. Another time perhaps Twisted.

Found 11:47am , find # 1489
We are on a holiday touring the Flinders Ranges. After leaving Rawnsley Park Station just south of Wilpena Pound, we travelled north and then west through the Brachina Gorge and arrived at Parachina. After staying the night at the Prairie Hotel we drove north to Leigh Creek, and then east to to stay at the Arkaroola Wilderness Resort. After two days there we drove a short distance back towards Copley and stayed for two nights at the Iga Warta Aboriginal Cultural Centre. After that we drove up to Marree in order to take a flight over Lake Eyre and the suurounding district. We stayed the night at the Marree Hotel and then the next morning set off south on our return journey to Melbourne, with overnight stops at Peterborough and Ouyen. This cache was found during the trip.
Found after a death defying search. I edged my way along the rock face while Pam went through a range of emotions watching.
Probably the most dangerous cache I've done as a 5m fall onto rocks is a real possibility.
I'm 183cm and I doubt you could get this if you're much shorter.
I just hope nobody gets hurt here at some stage, a real adventure challenge cache.
Thanks The Arkaroo,

Thanks for beautiful excursion

What a wonderful name for an equally wonderful spot. Mrs Twirby had her heart in her mouth as she watched one of the river crossing. She had never seen the Suby on three wheels before and on a 2WD track whats more.

The climbing to the cache was easy, but why is coming down always much harder.

October Long weekend spent in the Gammons with Mags2
Bowz2 loves this country, the remoteness, harshness and beauty of it all rolled in together its quite special.
This location and waterhole is awesome and picture postcard perfect.
Add a bit of easy rock climbing makes this is a fantastic cache.
(Well easy for Bowz2 as he has done quite a bit of rock climbing)
Mags 2 wasn’t so keen to follow! (smarter perhaps?)
TFTC and bring us here!

We could see where it would have been, BUT we were not risking our lives.
One slip and we could have fallen. Think this would have been too dangerous for us.
We were disappointed we could not get to the cache

It is my understanding that Nooldoonooldoona is actually short for Nooldoonooldoonooldoonooldoonooldoonooldoonooldoonooldoon, which means really pretty place that is really really dangerous if you are looking for a cache. I don't have the skills to get there.

Mr Gasamalu began climb up to where cache was. Mrs Gasamalu on ground was not impressed and implored him to get back down but to no avail. After some searching and hopping around like a mountain goat, Mr Gasamalu got lucky and found cache. Meanwhile Mrs Gasamalu couldn't look & was very relieved when Mr Gasamalu was back on terra firma!!

Oh so close!! The ledge was just a little too much to pass ..... What an incredible spot it is..... is the image close?

28-Apr-11
EsromL and I had a look for this one without any joy. I knew we were close - well sort of - the GPSr was telling me that I was variously somewhere between 0 metres and 37.5 Km from the cache - not sure what was going on! We had a look at some of the likely looking places matching the description until a group of muggles arrived and settled in at the waterhole. Unfortunately we couldn't outwait them, so have left this for another time. Thanks The Arkaroo and Savoy Truffle for bringing us to what must be one of the prettiest little waterholes in the area. We'll be back!

Agreed by all geofamily that this is the most spectacular of the Arkaroola gorges. As for the cache hunt - must have been the hardest in Arkaroola by far, at least for me. Arrived at the location, checked for precise GZ - GPSr has something like 30-40m accuracy. Who cares, there is an obvious crack in the rock, it must be somewhere there, right? Well, 20 minutes later, when I have climbed all the way to the interesting cave, searching every suspicious hide, finally gave up and returned down to terra firma. Walked back to the middle of the open space, where I could get 15 m accuracy, re-read the description, checked the hint - voila - wrong crack completely. It is the next one to the right... Cache in hand shortly, log signed, managed to climb down without falling into water bellow, just in time before next visitors arrived. Thanks for the adventure Arkaroo, much enjoyed.

This place was rated as the best in all of Arkaroola by my geomissus as we were lucky enough to not have anyone else around at the time of our visit so the place was just so peaceful.

The cache hunt was interesting as the gps was jumping around a bit and I ended up climbing up too high and then just enjoyed myself climbing around on the rockface before finally getting down to business and finding the cache. Again I was beaten by the same early riser but enjoyed the cache anyway.

Nooldoonooldoona - isn't that a beautiful name - telling a beautiful story? I know, it's hard to pronounce it from reading the sign alone, but if you learn the pronunciation, it's easy and unforgettable. As many of the other place names 'round here. There is also Undoo Oopinna, where the Arkaroo encountered the sacred White Wallaby. Echo Camp Waterhole is Ung Owillina, where Arkaroola surpried a mob of black crows creating a disturbance. Hahahah!

Nooldoonooldoona is the third physical cache we placed here, after Bararranna Gorge and The Pinnacles. Bollabollana will come and Welcome Mine is our Earthcache. See, there is something getting up in Arkaroola. Nice of Doug from the Station to sponsor the container, which indeed was a huge can of instant coffee. Such cans will do well here in the arid climate. Even if some moisture will get into it, it'll dry out quickly in the heat. Plastics are not good, 'cause they'll degrade and won't last long. How many cachers will we have here per year? Maybe two team events - mean, twice a group of three or cachers logging the same day? Have fun! There is a special entry for the FTF!

Savoy Truffle and I searched a bit for a good cache location. We did not want to go into this cave, as roos may house there. This here should be ecocaching, with great fun but low impact to the environment. So no needs to leave useless rubbish in the can, please. Just travel bugs and geocoins, etc, things others appreciate.

We places a little opener tool near the lid of the can. just a flat piece of steel. It has a hole, and if someone ought to pass with a thin wire or string to fix it, would help future fellows. Thanks.

Of course, the place s a divine area again. Need to come for longer soon to explore more into the valley and also to bring some rock climbing gear and friends - some of my next trips again!
