This was a lovely cache to start the day with. We were staying nearby and headed out here to see the lake for ourselves. Unfortunately the conditions werent ideal with cloud cover hiding the mountains and wind disturbing the lake surface. My email with answers bounced, so have sent a GC message with answers to the CO. Visited with rumpuslabs, Tftc!
"When it's clear and still" well it was neither of those today, no mirror and nothing for it to reflect. Oh well. TFTC!
Today it was clowdy and rainy. After the rain stopp it had a high humility. We had a beautifully walk around the lake. But messing the wundervoll mirrow effect; because there were so many Claudia, we saw no mountains.Answer was sent to the owner. Thanks a lot for this interesting EC.
Unfortunately a very cloudy morning so no mountain rejections today. Nice walk though
It's day 5 of my 3-week bucket list road trip around South Island, and today, I'm heading from Fox Glacier to Wanaka. This is my first stop of the day, just a couple of minutes from where I stayed last night. I didn't have high hopes of getting a perfect view as it has been windy for the past couple of days, but as it turned out, the morning dawned with just a slight breeze blowing ... but enough, with clouds over the mountains as well, to not be a picture perfect day. But the views and indeed, the walk itself were great and I was really pleased that I took the time to come. The coffee at the cafe afterwards was also awesome and much appreciated. Thanks for creating this earthcache butterfly lady ... and for bringing me here.
Day twenty four of our epic New Zealand Adventure with The Morris.Staying in Fox Glacier. The forecast is not good, but it is not raining. We went to the lake for a walk in the morning, and circumnavigated it doing the AdLab.Stopped at the pier for the Earthcache and worked out our answers.Unfortunately the email address given is no longer working. If there is another email address we can use, sent me a note. Thanks, Robmc.
Day 24 of our Enzed adventures with Robmc and we spent the night in Fox in the hope of a helicopter ride this afternoon. The fellas headed out to the lake for AdLab and of course your cache.Sadly the helicopter has been delayed until tomorrow but at least it gave us a chance to look around.Robmc is sending in the answers. Thanks for contributing to our amazing holiday
I walked past the Palace earlier, where the Patrician sits and pulls his strings, keeping the peace by allowing just the right amount of disorder. No one else could manage it; he balances everything so perfectly that its a wonder he hasnt toppled off his throne yet. He and the city are cut from the same cloth, I thinkboth are ruthless, efficient, and pragmatic to a fault. Ankh-Morpork reflects him as much as he reflects it.
CaptainVimes and I have crossed the pond to attend the Geo Toroa mega in Dunedin and tour around the South Island for two weeks.Enjoyed a walk through this beautiful forest. No reflection today though. Thanks Butterfly_Lady and happy caching
Day #6 Greymouth to Haast - The Mega New Zealand ExperienceA chance for an overseas Mega was too good to pass up. Especially with half the state seeming to be attending also. I set about some last minute planning. Flights still available Accommodation found Mode of transport securedLooks like its time to cross the ditch. Ive never visited the South Island before so it is bound to be a fun filled trip. Its an early start today as the agenda is jam packed with sight seeing.By the time I got out to this lake it was a bit cloudy and Fox Glacier was hiding. The walk was still lovely and although the afternoon had cooled off it was still warm enough to be in shorts!A big thanks goes to Butterfly_Lady for taking the time to add Reflections of a Glacial nature (Lake Matheson) to the geocaching map for us all to find and enjoy.----------------------------------------------------------Wow! The fun just never stops.Have you logged your will attend for Victoria's first ever Block Party? (Think Mega but even more special!)Join us on 22-23 March 2025 in Sunbury to celebrate 25 years of geocaching by logging your will attend at [**GCAP417**](https://coord.info/GCAP417).
Lovely location for an Earth Catch. After having a helicopter flight to see Mt Cook decided to come here. On the group finding the cach the tip of the mountains are not visible due to low cloud coverage. The sky is approx 8 oxtas today, full day.TFTC gave the family something to aim for on the walk around.
#3944 Today is day 14 of my geocaching vacation in New Zealand. I'm hiking Fox Glacier and wandering around the town. Found it! Great weather today!Butterfly_Lady, thank you for the cache!-crystaloops from Taipei, Taiwan on October 14, 2024 @ 15:19:22[GC2MM2N] Reflections of a Glacial nature (Lake Matheson) was a D1.5/T1.5 Other Earthcache at the time of finding.
Out caching with TL. TFTC! Sending answers for teamlarcee and nildran. It's a beautiful (rainy) day to be a duck!
Before we checked in at our camping spot, we had this lovely tour around Lake Matheson. The Forrest was like one in fairytales, everything was green and mystical. We did the tour anti-clockwise so we reached the island of reflection first and already had a beautiful view. Unfortunately the mountain tops covered with snow have been in some clouds today. (We got better views the day after)Thanks a lot for bringing us here, we decided for this walk also because of the earth Cache. It is a fabulous place and I strongly recommend everyone to do this walk, and of course the cache as a bonus TFTC #461
We visited this lake today despite it not being on our itinerary... but we are glad we decided to do it. We enjoyed walking around the whole circuit, which took about an hour and a half. Although clouds lingered around, the view was lovely, both at the jetty and at 'the view of views' further along. I've messaged my answers to the CO. Have a fp. Tftec
What a beautiful country (and what a beautiful place here)! TftCSiamFee (together with Siamkiwi (who also gave the answers))
Today SiamFee and I visited this beautiful Earthcache.A very lovely walk around the lake. Light waves do not allow for reflections, it is a little windy, the mountains are half visible, the other half is covered with clouds. But, i was still lively 2 hours. Thanks for this Earthcache Siamkiwi
#2293 (Tontako Team) Kia Ora from Spain! We found this cache during our New Zealand / Aotearoa holidays.Amazing day to enjoy the lake Matheson. The path is kind and the trees give some air when the sun is high. Hundreds of geese in the lake.TFTC
On our fourteenth day in New Zealand we drive from Hari Hari to Haast. This beautiful cache was on our way.TFTCHennesAt the end comes the poem of the day.New ZealandBy James K. Baxter(for Monte Holcroft)These unshaped islands, on the sawyers bench,Wait for the chisel of the mind,Green canyons to the south, immense and passive,Penetrated rarely, seeded onlyBy the deer-cullers shot, or else in the northTribes of the shark and the octopus,Mangroves, black hair on a boxers hand. The founding fathers with their guns and bibles,Botanist, whaler, added bones and namesTo the land, to us a bridleAs if the id were a horse: the swampy townsLike dreamers that struggle to wake,Longing for the poets truthAnd the lovers pride. Another nice walk out for the view, no Mirror-lake today by still a nice view. Thanks for the cache./herrFamaxe from Sweden
Just getting around to logging the caches I found while visiting New Zealand from the U.S. with LaFavorite Cacher. We had a great time traveling around the country seeing the sights and picking up some caches along the way.We had great weather that day. There were clouds, no wind, and the perfect temperature (10 degrees C). Thank you for being a part of our adventures!Note: LaFavorite Cacher has sent in the answers for any earthcaches or virtuals required for both of us.
GeoJayne and I had a great time in the Fox Glacier area. We are visiting from Atlanta in the U.S. We loved seeing the glacier, glow worms last night, and a delicious meal. What a grand combination! This morning we got up extra early in hopes of seeing the sun rise over Lake Matheson. GeoJayne was NOT happy about the hour, but we got out the door in time to be the second car in the lot! We made our way as quickly as possible to the first overlook and were happy to see lovely reflections. We found reflections all the way around, as well. We lucked into some great weather today. There were clouds at the peaks of the mountains, no wind to speak of and a temperature of 10 degrees C (perfect temp for hiking!). Answers for this cache have been sent to the CO.Thank you for the smiley and the fun!
Slight morning haze with some cloud near mountainsLake very Calm but not millpond.A lovely spot. Nice to see lots of tourists about. Tftc
During our two-month trip through New Zealand and Australia we travel from Fox Glacier to Greymouth. Before we really get on the road, we try to catch a glimpse of the Fox Glacier. We also had time to visit Lake Matheson. We also visited this earth cache. We looked for the answers to the questions and took a nice photo.**Butterfly_Lady**, thanks for the cache.
We are currently on a eight week holiday which is mostly spent in New Zealand and Australia. However, the first three days were spent in Signapore as a nice break from an otherwise long flight. The day before yesterday we drove from Wanaka to Fox Glacier. Today we are already heading to our next desination, Greymouth. Since it that is not a long drive we spend the moring in and around Fox Glacier. We have a walk with glacier view, visit a look out and have a walk around Lake Matheson. Naturally during our walk we looking for the answers for this earthcache. The answers have been sent by janvandevis. Unfortunately there were no reflections due to the wind but it is a very nice place to visit nevertheless. Thank you very much for this earthcache.
Answers sent Logging this cache while walking the lake circuit with Spicetree plus GeoBaby on the back! Beautiful day for a walk TFTC
What a day, unfortunately we missed the early reflections whilst I went and jumped out of a plane over the glacier. This was a warm walk despite how cool it was in the shade. The geobaby on my back may have contributed. NZ is really pulling out all the stops with the cloud capped mountains and the cool rainforests!
We are on a trip in New Zealand. A wonderful country with a lot of (old )caches. There are too many caches so we limit ourselves to the (old) gems or where we happen to make a stop. Yesterday wel should have a helicopter flight at Haast. It was cancelled because of bad weather and we had rain rest of the day, driving to Fox Glacier. This morning we booked a new helicopter flight in Fox Glacier but again.... Now because of low clouds. We try again in the afternoon. So we did the afternoon walk in the morning around this beautiful lake. I will send the answers in the evening. Butterfly_lady, thank you for this earth cache, regards xizat-NL. Take care, this hobby can develop to an addiction.
My husband and i are on holidays from BrisbAne Australia for 2 weeks around the south island and today we travelled from Westport to Fox Glacier. THis Earth cache was on my to do list and what a perfect day with only a few scattered clouds around. We did the 90 minute circuit and enjoyed the walk with the moss covered sides to the path and the great viewing areas. THe lake did not have reflections today but was still beautiful. Thanks for taking us here and for this great Earth cache. Giving it a FP for all of the above
On our roadtrip to the West Coast, we stopped at Fox Glacier for 2 days. The first day was a huge rain so we did not do anything. The net day was very cloudy and we finally see something at 4pm. We manage to spot the glacier between clouds. TFTC
TftcCuxine and I were really lucky with the weather; it was cloudy but relatively calm, so the mountains reflected beautifully.Tftc
Emailed the answers! Although there is no snow or rain, there are low overcast clouds resulting in poor visibility of the mountains. There is no wind, so the reflection of the clouds is very good in the lake. Thanks!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Today, we wanted to take a little walk around Lake Matheson and so we did! We arrived at the parking area and walked to the lookout. At first, it was a little windy, but we waited a little and enjoyed the view and after a little while the wind stopped blowing for a short time and the water-view got clearer. There were a lot of clouds in the sky and you were only sometimes able to spot the snowy mountains.... It was about 16C and only once you were able to spot the sun through the clouds.... Wonderful weather as I would say ... The email was also sent to the CO. A big thank you to Butterfly_Lady for leading steffixx and me here to this beautiful place and of course also for working out this interesting earthcache!Best wishes from the North Sea, Germany, from Cuxine . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ________________oooooooo____________oooooooooooooo_________oooooooooooooooooo________oooooooooooooooooooo_______oooooooooooooooooooo____oooooo_______oooooooooooooooooooo___ooo__ooo_______oooooooooooooooooooo__oooo____oo________oooooooooooooooooooooooo_________oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo_oooo_______oooooooooooooooooo________ooooo___ooooooooooooooooooooooo_________oo_ooo____oooooooooooooooooooooooooo_____oooooooo__ooo_oooooo__________oo___oooo_______ooo__ooo_ooo______oooo__ooo_______oooo___ooo__ooo___ooooo___ooo_____ooo___ooo____oo____ooo____oooooo__ooo____ooooooo____________ooo_____ooooo____ooo
**Log about this cache:**After a few walks this is the last one.To much wind for a full reflection but stil an reflection and a very nice walk!**General log:**After years of planning and the canceling of trip due to the corona crisis, the time had finally come:***"more than 5 weeks in New Zealand".***And how beautiful it was!Visited both the north and south islands, many tourist attractions have a cache nearby so I could do some as well.Lots of virtuals and earth caches too and traditionals. But also done a few multi caches here and there also even a mystery and wherigo cache. The trip to New Zealand was great and we saw a lot of nice places. The country has so many different types of landscapes. And the nice thing was that it is winter in the Netherlands but summer in New Zealand Too bad it takes so long to fly and that the flight is so expensive otherwise i can go here next year again. Now you can enjoy it, logging the caches is also part of it. I will try to email the answers for the earthcaches and virtual caches to the relevant co`s as soon as possible. But first log all caches and upload the photos .Submitted via Garmin Live Geocaching
Partly cloudy today with the cloud hanging over the mountains. The lake has a clear brown tinge to it. Cool loop walk. Thanks for the cache.
Today we went to Gault lake and took a tour around the mirror lake too. Unfortunately there is rain predicted in the mountains and its a bit windy. The lake is not smooth so no mirror pictures today. At the jetty i put my feet over the edge when i sat down.A curious eel came to the surface and nibbled on my shoe awesome!!Thanks and greetings from The Netherlands
Today we visited lake Matheson. There were no reflection of the Glacier. It was too windy en too cloudy. But also in these weatherconditions its beautiful.TFTC
Here from the U.S. I enjoyed the hike to the viewpoint, especially all of the singing birds. Too bad there wasnt a kiwi sighting. Thanks for the earthcache! Answers sent.
thank you for your warm welcome butterfly lady, NZ CO. I introduced my tour guide to geocaching. and ad labs. we enjoyed it.
Santagrandpa and Santagrandma are visiting New Zealand from Florida, US. We are on a tour for 3 weeks with only a few days left. Between rain showers we were able to take this walk and complete the earth cache. The answers have been sent to the CO.It is a cloudy day and we were not able to see the mountains or a reflection in the lake. With the recent rain Santagrandma was busy taking pictures of all the plant life she is fascinated with. We were surrounded with beauty and thank the CO for this cache. A favorite point added for the location.
After years on our bucket list and three cancellations due to Covid, we are thrilled to finally be here. Following several cruises we flew from Sydney, Australia to Wellington, New Zealand to begin our next adventure. Picked up our rental vehicle and will be driving, exploring, hiking, and caching both islands for 3.5 weeks. It rained pretty steady right before we hit the hiking trail, but then was dry and the sun even popped out a few times. The trail was pretty busy with muggles today, but we still got to see a few birds that were new to us. We enjoyed the hike, reached GZ, gathered the info, and took some pics. No reflection on the lake today with the clouds and breeze, but it was still a pretty view. We had planned to hike the entire loop trial, but NW's knee was giving him trouble so we headed back to our vehicle from the cache coordinates. Our answers have been sent via the message system and we appreciate the CO developing this geological lesson that definitely earns a blue ribbon from us. Thanks for adding to our adventure today, Nukeworker and Racquetball Girl, Arkansas, USA
Although we knew we wouldnt get the money shot we still decided to do the walk. Answers sent to ECO. No money shot though. Too cloudy.
Back today to complete this earthcache again as on my last visit 2 years ago I didn't count the steps, landings and platforms at the jetty. I was very lucky today as tI took a photo just as I arrived - the reflection was good then but disappeared within seconds and didn't return the rest of the time I was there. Lovely walk to this special place thank you Butterfly_Lady. TFTEC # 20,657
We wondered if we should do it this evening when the cloud was above us and around Mt Cook and Tasman or get up in the morning and hope it was better. We opted for a chilly evening stroll and as we wandered around the lake, the cloud lifted and dissipated and the views got better and better! Ended up with the typical tourist photo of Mt Cook reflected in the lake, so well worth it. Cheers for the earthcache, answers sent.
After traveling around Australia with Oopie for 7 weeks, we have now been traveling with the camper in New Zealand for 4 weeks. Along the way we will of course also visit various types of caches in beautiful places, including this one. So we make the answers together and with your permission Oopie wil sent the answers. Thanks CO for creating and laying this cache.
Together with Travelser I'm going Down Under. We are driving around with a motorhome. After 7 weeks driving around through Australia we arrived the 2th November in New Zealand. For ten days we will cross the Northern Island and than for 2 weeks the Southern Island.During our trip we of course search for several caches. Most of them brought us to very nice spots, like this one.All the CO's, and in this case Butterfly_Lady, thanks for bringing us here and give our trip a special accent.
Weather was cloudy with a little rain, mountains in clouds, no reflections. Nevertheless a fine walk. TFTC
A gorgeous day here at Lake Matheson. My first trip here was in '06 and then I lived in Fox for a while in '09. Now I'm here again.
#5.650After the temperatures dropped in the night we were quite happy that the sun came out for a short while before we headed into the Westland area. Over here the forecast predicted rain for the whole day and the clouds definitely are there to prove them right. But so far we were lucky. Nonetheless the clouds and more specifically the wind sadly made it impossible to get a good reflection on the lake today. The walk itself was nice anyways so we say TFTC and for placing one here. Greetings from team mastba from Hamburg/Germany
After checking into the hotel, I came for a walkaround this evening. Not quite a nice view given the cloud cover, but that's ok it can't always be stunning! Will E-mail the information through shortly, thanks for bringing me here Butterfly_lady TFTEC Butterfly_Lady, the cache was found in good order Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 3 find(s) of 4 today, making this find #4400
NZ trip day #12. Weve had a few days of poor weather while in Queenstown but today made up for that. Sunny, not a cloud in the sky. And calm. We got the postcard perfect photo of the mirror lake. And just in time, the wind just started to pick up at the end. Definitely one of my most favourite locations so far. Thanks for putting this earthcache together for our enjoyment.Answers sent .
We're over visiting from the UK and my dad really wanted to visit here again as he remembered visiting and getting good pictures before. I didn't remember visiting here until about 3/4 of the way round up the hill where I saw a stream I had taken a photo of (that I am that proud of I use in my lessons) a mini waterfall.
The weather today was nice (unlike yesterday and last night's lightning!) We could see most of the tops although clouds did cover Tasman and Cook at times. And when we came down from the view of views got a patch where the reflections worked in the water.
Thank you very much for setting up the cache.

Just finished an 11 day ready around the bottom half of the south island and Lake Matherson was our favourite part! Excellent views and I (as a tramper) geeked out over finding 24 Werewere-kokako mushrooms all on a single loop track!!! Enjoyed this spot despite the rain and overcast covering the Glacier and mountains whilst we were here. Tftc
We are on our long-awaited journey around the world in 99 days. Second try after canceling in 2020.
Our third stop after Los Angeles and Hawaii is New Zealand.
This time was of course used to find some geocaches here.
Today we were searching for the Earthcache **Reflections of a Glacial nature (Lake Matheson)**
The weather today was great. It was sunny and round about 20°C. while we were at the lake, the view of the mountains was great at first, later Mount Cook unfortunately closed in clouds.
At the given coordinates the needed answers where found quickly and after sending them, ther is a new smile on our geocaching map!
At least we would like to take this opportunity to thank Butterfly_Lady for the interesting information and for creating this Earthcache!

After a lot of rain in the morning and on the day before we had a beautiful afternoon at the lake. The mountains were visible and the reflection in the lake was perfect. The water itself wasn't very clear, but that didn't matter at all to us.

Beautiful day to walk around Lake Matheson today! Answers sent by thomasjh87. The mountains were clear today and we had a great view of them with reflections on the lake! Thanks for this cache today!
Sent answers. Beautiful walk around the lake today. We were very lucky with the weather, with clear views of the mountains. The lake itself wasn't very clear, with a hint of copper coloured water. I definitely couldn't see much through it. The view of views really was a perfect view and framing with the lake and mountains. We also found some really cool mushrooms on the walk around too which was amazing!
spent 6 great weeks in New Zealand with my The start was a bit bumpy (Cyclone Gabrielle) but then it got better and better. We travelled to both islands and discovered a lot. We photographed and filmed many beautiful things, but most of it stayed in our hearts.
Almost everywhere we stopped, a cache was already waiting for us. Most of the caches are well maintained and easy to find.
With mostly very nice weather, we saw a lot of this impressive island. In many places, caches were waiting for us, which were sometimes easy and sometimes difficult to find. This cache was also included and was successfully signed
We puzzled a lot in advance and the tours were well prepared
So this box was also well found.
now I have another on my personal cache card.
many thanks to [^] **Butterfly_Lady** [^] for the effort and the cache and greetings from Germany

A wonderful morning walk, the weather partly clear to clear. No one at the place and nadheera alone. Of course, we made paws during the walk and sent the answers to the Earth cache by email. It's been a few days so we're logging in. Really wonderful place. Greetings from the Czech Republic and thank you for the cache.

On feb 12 we visited matheson lake. Inthe morning. We did have beautifull weather. I was able to walk the whole loop on my crutches. Thanks for showing us this place.
Answers were sent. This morning was very calm with no wind, warm with a clear blue sky. There was a perfect reflection of the mountains in the very still water of the lake. Absolutely stunning! I returned an hour later after taking the loop hike. Just enough of a breeze had picked up so that the reflection was gone. TFTC
Logged together with Majline. The weather was extraordinary nice, blue sky with just a few tiny white clouds. The view of the alps was very clear in the sunlight. Our trip leader that was here for about his tenth time said that he never had experienced such a clear view of the mountains. Unfortunately there was a little wind, just enough to ripple the surface of the lake so the reflections was not perfect. It was varm and sunny and I estimate the temperature to be about 25 degrees.

Lake Matheson was a top item on our agenda today after spending the night in the town of Fox Glacier. We were especially excited to be the first to find on a new adventure lab that took us around the lake.
It was beautiful weather, but a little windy, so we didn't get much of a reflection, but the view of the mountains was wonderful.
We had breakfast in the cafe before hiking around the lake. We also bought postcards there - they had a 6 for $3 deal.

We are traveling through this area in our caravan and decided to come and look at this lake. Not many reflections today. I have walked around this Lake in the past when we did a road trip with the family. A lovely walk all the same. Lovely bush views.
Thanks for putting this cache together.

Before coming to NZ I was really looking forward south island and seeing mountain reflections from lakes. Unfortunately, i think it won't happen because of the rainy weather and my limited time. I did the walk last evening and it didn't rain too much. There were no wind but because of the misty weather I couldn't see reflections. Only gray. It was anyway a nice peaceful walk around the lake, tftc!
The lake is a dark brown. It's a partly cloudy day and there is a light breeze, so no reflections today
Thank you for this beautiful Earthcache. A very nice tour! The required answers have been sent to the owner. It was slightly cloudy today. It had rained in the morning. The mountains were shrouded in a light mist. The lake was slightly brownish. Unfortunately, there was no reflection. Many thanks and warm greetings from the Marauder from Braunschweig, Germany.
A very great day after yesterday a flight but I was a little bit to late so the lake has already waves but the view was great.
Thanks.
Thanks.
We arrived at the viewing platform around 5PM. The clouds were hanging deep in the Victoria Range, thus no summits visible. At the lake itself it was still sunny and 22 degrees warm. At intervals a slight breeze blew. From the viewpoint seen, the reflection was very good on the right side, as there the lake was not affected by the breeze. Towards the mountains, the reflection was blurred.

Visited during a tour of New Zealand. Perhaps the most beautiful place on the route. We took a walk early in the morning, the sun was just rising over the horizon and the surrounding nature was waking up. the lake was completely calm. It was a really powerful experience . Thanks for the cash.
Still on our road trip through , driving today from Punakaiki to Fox Glacier.
After checking out “downtown” and not much to do there, we decide to drive to Lake Matheson for a walk and afterwards a drink at the cafe.
The walk was beautiful and calm.
After the short walk - and consistent with experiences of the past weeks the cafe is closed early (it was just after 3 pm) because of lack of staff so we head back downtown to see whether we can still get anything there
The tops of the mountains were not visible today due to mist up there.
It was mainly cloudy, sun breaking through later in the afternoon.
Around 20 Celsius. There was no reflection of the mountains due to wind over the lake.
Still a good walk though.
Thank you for the interesting earthcache - many geogreetings from chitza from Belgium

Today is slightly cloudy with a slight breeze, enough to ruffle the surface just after we got to the viewing platform.
17’ degrees, a great view and a great day, thanks for sharing.

We are on a 4-week holiday from California, the main part of which is a camper van tour of the South Island. This is our last day on the west coast and were happy to be greeted with some rain-free time this morning. Took advantage of it for breakfast out and an excellent stroll around the lake. We started in the indicated direction to the first platform, but then continued around the lake. Thanks for the bit of history of the lake. Answers sent. Gets a favorite for the excellent time here.
On our way around the Island and were taken here for dinner tonight. A nice walk to the viewing platform before dinner.Answers have been sent to the CO.
The lake was smooth and reflective
out toward the centre til the breeze ruffled the water.
Up close the water is dark and foreboding.

After parking our motorhome at Top10 holiday park we took our bikes and drove to Lake Matheson. The weather was cloudy and even a bit rainy. The lower parts of mountains were visible but no view to Mt Cook. The lake was not a mirror either but obscured by some tiny ripples. To compensate the mirror view there was a small rainbow seen from the other side of the lake. Thanks for this EC on an international EC day and greetings from Finland!
Today we walked the 4.4 km around the beautiful lake. Unfortunately the sky was cloudy so we couldn't see much reflections. But we enjoyed our walk in this green nature.
Our answers we sent to the owner.
The weather was very cloudy, the top of the montains were covered by clouds. So the lake had a dark blue colour today.
>Thank you for this cache and greetings from Berlin Germany

On the coast whitebaiting (not very successfully) and decided to get some caches. This is the first time I have visited the lake as it is usually pouring down. Today it was sunny with a breeze so there was a ripple on the lake. Enjoyed my time here.
On our New Zealand trip we visited also the Lake Matheson and the surroundings. We had a big hope to see the great reflection but the weather had a another opinion.

We were coming through here as part of a family roadtrip holiday. We had stayed the night nearby and coming to the lake here was one of must do's on our trip. We loved coming here and walking the track to the viewing platform and carried on up the track a way before going back to our car to carry on with our travels. Unfortunately the weather on the day was not the best for truely enjoying the reflections on the lake. The mountains were in cloud, (we only got a partial view of the glacier for a short while at a nearby viewing point) there was a light wind and showers passing through which meant the lake was only stillish at the banks. Our phones said it was 14 degrees so was a pleasent temperature for walking with our raincoats on. There were also plenty of ducks and gease on the water as well. A lovely spot to visit and we will be back at some point in the future and hope to get a day when the weather allows for the reflections to be shown to the full. TFTC
We were fortunate to have a still and sunny day with very little wind for our walk today, so we had great views of the snow capped mountains and great reflections of these in the lake.
Being midweek there were not many people about and we were able to enjoy the peace and tranquility of the area.
At the second jetty we were fortunate to see a long finned eel hanging around hoping to be fed.
After our walk we stopped by at the cafe for morning tea. TFTC

While stuck at Fox Glacier during this weather bomb, after the hairy drive yesterday (dodging flood water, & small slips, rocks on the road oh & a tree roots & dirt included) to get here before the road closed.
The sight break in the weather this afternoon gave me the opportunity to visit this wonderfully tranquil place (most likely more tranquil due to being the only car in the car park, others might say only one crazy enough). In was peaceful & beautiful,, would love to return in better conditions.
Was enjoying the tranquility & just finished taking an array of photos of the reflections, & the rain started again. Reality kicked in & I instantly recalled all the flooding signs I’d seen doing the track
, where you could see how high the flooding had been recently & with more rain could do again. So a burst of trail running with the odd pit stop for to take another photo of an awe inspiring scene, then on again.
We had hopped after two nights stuck here tomorrow would be our day out, however while typing this up the rain has been hammering down loader than last night. They said stuff was still falling in the road this afternoon so to unstable to open it a North, South is way worse so that could be several days.
Only tomorrow will tell if we get to leave or stay, if we stay & the weathers right I’ll be doing the reflections again, it’s just beautiful.
Thank you so much for having this cache, this place was on my bucket list but with the weather bomb I would have skipped it, then this cache popped up & drove me to venture out to it, so thank you for making the difference.

Nice stop. One of us did the big loop, the two others stayed at the jetty, waiting for the little breeze to drop. It didn't. We still enjoyed our time and the views of the glacier and mountains. Answers sent to CO. Thanks for placing this here.
A beautiful day for a walk in the bush to a beautiful spot that I've wanted to see since I was a kid. Finally made it at 66yo. Lots of photos taken despite the dun being g in the wrong place and the mountains a bit hazy. Well worth the walk.
Answers sent to CO. TFTC.
Recommend driving on to the glacier viewpoint further along the road.

It's been many years since we were last here. Enjoyed walking the upgraded tracks (although cannot do the loop as DoC are still finishing off the last section). An overcast day, with a very slight occasional breeze, but still in the early 20's so very mild. Answers sent to the CO. TFTEC
The sky was clear but with a layer of thin cloud coverage. It was quite warm (about 20 degrees) but there was a light breeze going down the lake. We couldn't see down into the water due to ripples. One of the simpler earth caches I've done which is nice. TFTC!
