After registering, looking around, making some purchases and having a chat at WA Goes Big, we set off to find some caches. As we were going out to the car park, we were greeted by astrohiker who asked us if we would like to see a cache that he was getting from his car to take into the event.
WOW are we glad we said yes. There is so much work gone into this cache container. It is absolutely fabulous!
Thanks for the cache.

Im just going back through my finds and found this cache that I logged in 2011 before the caching bug really got hold of me. Reading back through the logs has reminded me exactly why I loved this cache so much, so I am now retrospectively adding my Favourite Point for my find 5 years ago. This is probably still one of my favourite caches that I found (only beaten by a 4.5/4.5 on top of a mountain!). Many thanks again for this ripper, it's a shame that it had to be archived due to the lack of finds.

Hi. This cache was Geocache of the year in early 2011 but not many people were keen to go to the 3 spots to get the clues & do a 5 - 7 min walk up a small hill that seemed too much for some. Tis a shame when a neat geocache is made & seldom few want to make the effore to go & do it. Seems I should go back to crappy clicklock containers. Everyone wants to find them. Oh well. Permanently archived due to lack of activity up until June 2012. Tis your loss, oh well, I did try.. Thanks & congrats to those who walked up the hill. Astrohiker.

Having only just returned from a trip to Denmark doing some roymerc caches I was not too excited about the prospect about getting my first find back in the big smoke. Boy was I in for a pleasant surprise!

Not only were the waypoints all rather pretty (Spewing I didn't take my camera for those bridge pillars!) the cache totally rocked! I'm in awe of anyone that can construct these sort of mechanical things with their bare hands and the Swan Valley Safe certainly didn't disappoint.

The time spent discovering all of the hidden treasures this cache has to offer was truly worth the time spent collecting the cache data. It leaves the usual nanos and boring containers for dead.

TFTC astrohiker!

Met up this morning with Tanzanite for a couple of hours of mischief bimbling around
the Swan Valley.

This Cache and the "Swan Valley Weave" were the only Caches on my list for this morning, so we started with this one.
Attended the three Waypoints to gather all the required information to unlock the safe, then made out way to GZ.

Great hike up the steep hill and over the rock faces, I'm glad I had my hike boots and long pants, poor old Tanzanite was being scratched to pieces below the knees.

On arrival at GZ we split up to search the area, and it was not long before I heard the familiar "found it" cry.

What a cache, very impressed.... as it happened we did not need to use the info we had gathered as the Safe was left unlocked by a previous finder.

Log signed and photos taken, we span the reels to secure it for the next luck finder.

A fantastic Multi Cache, in a great location, with stunning views, what more could you ask for??

A fav point for sure.

MM.

First cache ever and what a beauty!

Did the tour and looked at things that we've never seen before...and we live local. Great day was had on this one and the cache was amazing. It's in good shape and not to hard to find once you're in the area (GZ seems out a little)

Took some nice pics which I'll pop up later.

Cheers from Honkiroks

Found today with a friend. Nice walk up to the GZ, someone had made an arrow out of stones pointing towards Perth with PERTH written with stones underneath. Few roos about aswel. Great cache, biggest we've found so far. Took the trackable to move on.

21-Jun-11
Found after a short search about 20m from GZ. Question No 2 had me scratching my head- there are some 20 old piles near the river, some more carved near the end of the carpark and yet more on the side of Reid Hwy (for which you don't need to turn left to the carpark)
I couldn't find the bench seat at or near GZ just three or four rockpiles to sit on

A great cache, took me to a few places I have never visited before, so thanks. Great cache and great views.
The co-ordinates seemed to be out by over 12m at GZ - but not to hard to find once you start widening your search.

Dropped off a trackable I brought back from Hong Kong and one from China. And logging my two trackable dogs through also, who visited the cache with me.

Just visited the cache this morn. Tweaked the latch a whisker so it can close again. These chilly morns hey.. Picked up Spycatcher the book to give more room.

13-May-11
Found all 3 waypoints easily then headed into the hills.
Took the gravel track upwards but came down through what was probably dense bush before the fire. At the moment this is the easiest route. GPS reading was out for me but once I looked at the clue I spotted what I needed to guide me to the cache, actually this was the best bit for me!
Unlocked the safe TN Left 2 T'B's. Had problems locking it, will send message to Andy. TfTC and the lovely views I had a great trip out.

Fixing the mechanism.

08-May-11
Cache mechanism is fixed & I have altered it a bit. Oh I am dropping off Mischiefs crew Apple geocoin. I know they want it going in grade 4 hiking caches but i don`t have the time & after my fall at my last cache walk, i`m taking it easy. I`d like to make a cache at Mt Cooke in Jarrahdale. Mt. Cooke is the highest peak in the Darling Ranges. There are only caches at the lower levels & that is some distance away from the top. Anyways the trackable in the safe now as it needs moving on, Cheers.

Found by Rosa, Tegan and Ackermats. What a beautiful spot at dusk. Much easier after the bush fire, but can't wait until the first rains to green up everything. Loved this cache. Sorry about two of the seats I wasn't strong enough to put the flat rocks back on.

This is a great multi that we solved without any problems at all. Collected the clues for the tumbler while out geocaching today. Took the hard way up to the cache and although our co-ords weren't spot on we found it no problems. Great cache. TFTH

What an awesome cache! I can see you have put a lot of time and effort into creating this wonderful cache. Well done Astrohiker. We have enjoyed collecting the needed info thru the Swan Valley. It felt quite strange walking up thru the burnt out area to gz although it did make it easier to get thru the scrub. I picked up the German GC but it doesn't seem to have been logged in to the cache yet. I dropped off "Serendipity Wings" TB to continue its journey. Thanks Astrohiker for a fantastic cache. TNLN SL

First multi cache find with Sqwash. Tour through the valley is fantastic, and even for a local who knows the valley, took me to a few new places I didn't know about. Fantastic views of Perth and the Swan Valley from cache site. TNLN as underestimated the quality of swappables, such as clock, books and so on. Thanks Astrohiker for a fantastic cache!

12-Mar-11
Cheers hey. A top shop for stocking your cache is the $2 shop at Midland Gate. Its right next to the main doors eastern (hills) end. Note; There are 2 entrances on that side.

12-Mar-11
WOW Astrohiker. This was a great Cache, the best I have ever done. Found with Krabiboy and I agree with him, we really underestimated the swappable items. Placed GC in (sorry for late log).

Alot of effort went into this cache, including the lock box, and even though a fire has ripped thru there it was a great spot to stop and look out at the view. Someone had even set up rocks to spell out words (ill leave that to people to see).

Amazing view, amazing cache with an amazing facts and background into some parks around the area.
Thankyou so so much for this one. This is what caching is about!

26-Feb-11
Astrohiker, this is a premium cache! Very well conceived and built. We don't have a lot of time left here in Australia and I realize that it probably won't get much cooler so we bit the bullet and went for the cache today. It was nice and cool in the car to do all that driving and the way points were short enough that we didn't get too hot during our brief stay. We sure would have liked to stay a lot longer at way point two and Sam was eying the kids using a rope to jump in the river. This would be an excellent spot for a summer geocaching gathering! Those carvings on the pillars were very nice.
Though today was 38C and probably hotter on the rocks near the cache we decided with petrol the way it is (and time running short on us) to carry on to the final location. We found a bit of shade on the way up then made our way up to the rockfaces and the nice easy find. We weren't clear on the first digit but on our second try we used the correct one and the safe opened. Our son was quite interested in the inner workings of the safe.
We had a quick sign of the logbook and made our way back down to our black (HOT!) car. We did see a pair of kangaroos and some sort of lizard near the cache and I have to say the fire made the walk a lot easier (but dirtier) than expected.

Today was not the ideal day for us to do this cache as it was so hot.
But somehow, we worked around to all the points for the combination and then up to the safe.

Wow, what can I say! Amazing cache!! I'm so impressed with the huge effort you went to for this cache container, and I'm so glad that it survived the fire!!

I had a fun time visting local sites in my area and gathering the information required for the safe mechanism, and I'm happy to say I got them all right the first time around!
When I arrived at the parking spot for the cache I saw another car parked there, and thought it must be a cacher, and as I started walking up the trail I could see him coming down the hill. Very nice to meet astrohiker, out checking on the cache, and had a great chat!

As I was trying to show him the paperless caching function on my GPS I realised that I last updated the caches in the GPS last Friday night, before this cache was published - how embarrassing! Very nicely he pointed me towards the cache, rather than making me go all the way back to the car to get the coords off my iPhone. It wasn't long before I had the cache in my grasp and applied the combination to unlock the well constructed box.

The cache is very well stocked with all sorts of goodies, but I didn't have any swaps, so I just grabbed the Save the Dolphins Geocoin.

Thanks for the fun multi, and excellent cache container astrohiker!

Went up to take some more pics & met Rogue on the way down. Twas great to meet you & have a chat.

09-Feb-11
Wow, what an ingenious well made cache. I passed a couple of kangaroos resting under a burnt out bush on the way up. I expect they had lost their home, but they seemed to be in good health. TFTC Retrieved TB and left Compass Keyring.

07-Feb-11
Good News!! The Safe is safe... excuse the pun. I went up there late this afternoon. The fire went all around it & even on top of the outcrop. But as it was placed in rocks with little vegetation around helped protect it. It also had a 1mm thick aluminium printing plate on top & sides so prevented embers getting inside as with the books inside it would have gone up. Should be less probs with ticks on the slope now too.

Uh-oh, guess there's no chance of seeking this cache out today! I hope it stays 'safe' from the fire, and all your hard work into this device is not up in smoke after just 1 day Sad
Good luck to all the home owners in the area!

(Chwiliwr team catch up log)

Joint *FTF* about 7 to 7.30pm. We saw this cache quite soon after it was published and decided to try for it. We love night caching.

As Chwiliwr put the coordinates in manually his GZ was 20m away from the cache so referred to the hint and he soon found it. Combination was right and we found the log book blank.

Dropped of a travel bug and a geocoin.

Thanks for the cache. Really enjoyed doing it.

William St is in the firing line. Tis in rocks with not much bush around so fingers crossed. Will visit the site on Tuesday afternoon.

*FTF* about 7 to 7.30pm. I saw this cache quite soon after it was published and decided to try for it.

I was starting in Booragoon and soon found that I had to fill up the vehicle so was delayed a bit but did the first waypoing on the way through. At the second I thought there may have been another cacher there as they seemed to be counting the old poles. Did a quick check of the 3rd waypoint and made my way towards GZ.

Took a look at the hill and nearly decided to do it after my knee op then decided to try at least and took it slow and steady up the hill. Saw a brilliant sunset on the way but the camera didn't see what I saw.

As I put the coordinates in manually my GZ was 20m away from the cache so referred to the hint and soon found it. Combination was right and I found the log book blank.

Dropped of a travel bug and a geocoin.

Thanks for the cache. This is one of the best I've done for ages.

I suspect there may be another cacher on the hill as I found that there was another vehicle beside mine when I got back to the car.

Way to go Chwiliwr. I forgot to put the FTF pennant in the cache. I thought R0gue or Outenabout would have been the FTF. Glad you enjoyed this one. Twas alot of work in the making & in getting the cache to the spot. What a haul. Cheers for the favourite award by the way.
