Full tummy with Christmas lunch so decided to go for a walk. Had a bit of a job to get to it with the lake so high but got there.
This year me and RobLigtenberg were lucky enough to spend almost 2 months in New-Zealand on a great holiday. We explored both islands and just like everyone else we loved it. Apart from all the major attractions (roturua, tongariro, abel tasman, the glaciers, the fjords and so much more) we also tried to do some caches in order to discover even more of the country. Being used to cycling at home, we now cycled around lake Kaniere (combined with the West Coast wilderness trail to comboy’s paradise). A great route, but with strong headwinds in the last 20km more heavy than expected. This cache was a welcome stop around the lake and a very nice location!

During our nearly two month holiday in New Zealand we spend time on both the northern and southern island. Both islands happened to be very beautiful, each in its own way. Together with Ninagustein we searched for many caches, as we think it is a great way of discovering the country. Numerous caches get you to places you otherwise wouldn't have visited and it is also fun to find caches at touristic places. On this day we did a mountainbike trip from Kaniere to Cowboy Paradise. Then we rode around Lake Kaniere and back to Kaniere (a great trip of 86 kilometers). The previous logs made us worry a bit. But after putting my whole arm inside the tree, we could catch it out of the 'belly of the daddy' again. We hid it again in the arms of the tree and now it is easier to find. I actually wonder why it has been archived?!

Meh, we searched for a while and iit had been good to know that this one wasn't available without reading older found logs. We think it's fair both to CO and fellow cachers to post a NM log in cases like this.

Hideeho Thanks for the cache:) Greetings from the USA! Touring New Zealand and stopping for cache. I am so sorry but while replacing the cache it dropped down inside, so now its in the "belly of the daddy"
Great location but PLEASE visitors, don't leave toilet waste around these spots.
Also the No Camping sign is translated in English as Do Not Stay Overnight!
Thanks

Found with quinella amongst all the toilet waste. Pity for such a beautiful area. Tftc
Had a (very) late lunch here, but no luck in finding the cache. Didn't put too much effort into it though. Wouldn't be the first time we couldn't spot something obvious.

Had a slight sleep in this morning, waiting to see what the weather would do. We wanted to attempt the Lathrop/Zit saddles loop, but weather had not been on our side thus far.
But this morning we woke up with wonderful clear skies!!
So packed up camp, and decided to find a cache on the way, incase for whatever reason we couldn't find the first cache there.
Took longer than epected due to GPS playing up under the trees. Eventually it decided it knew where we were, and that was what we needed! Then the find was easy!! - But it's not when you've got about a 100m radius to search with the centre point nowhere near the cache!!

We drove around the lake and we found some boxes. Every box we could find easy. Thanks for hiding them
Lovely peaceful picnic area. Found in the sun, on a lovely drive/walk round the lake. TFTC.
Thanks for placing this vs s she here. Nice quick find. Certainly a lovely lake.
Headed out to Hokitika George and for a loop around Lake Kaniere today, looking for a few caches on the way. TNLN SL TFTC!
our first caching experience was a wet day but all had fun and was just hard enough for the kids and got them hooked on this. Thanks for this as could be found and was in a neat place.
A quick easy find, despite the slightly different hiding place, in this area of impressively large trees. TFTC
What a cool clue and very apt. Found safe and well in the arms of Daddy, but damp. tftc
Staying at the nearby DoC camping ground, which we recommend. While everyone else was still in the land of nod I swung by and found after an extensive search - what a n absolutely magic location! TFTC, #5827
A lovely spot in a lovely place. An amazing bit of forest - thank you for making us stop here and get the chance to see something wonderful. Ticks all the 'boxes' for a fave! TFTC.
Parked out on the road and walked in.
Nice quiet beach and a couple of canoes out fishing just off the beach.
Nice spot for the cache.

A quick find in a really lovely spot. Signed log, thanks for the cache and for bringing me here, it's the first time I have driven up this side of the lake.
Surprisingly, a Dutch couple (not geocachers) had left a note here saying they had stumbled on the cache while sleeping on the beach
Quick find after a paddle down the lake to visit Dorothy Falls. What a great outing on a perfect summer's day with water warm enough to swim in.
Part of our 13-day campervan trip of the “Top of the South”. TFTC. Cats Out Walking
A stunning and rather haunting day to find this. GPS was expectedly out but the hint quickly had the cache in hand. Thanks
A bit of a drive around the lake, first time here, it is very pretty. cache took some time to find but got there in the end. Thanks
Great spot, no sandflies and apart from the noise from the powerboats it would be a great place for a picnic. But sorry, not today. TFTC
Went to replace the soggy log book today, to find that someone had already done so. Thanks mystery person.
Also made a short stop at Rose Creek and logged this cache. TFTC. Sherlock Hood.
Found it easily, the contents have got a bit soggy though so couldn't log visit.
5/7 for the day. Spent a great day out at Hans Bay with the whole extended family and friends for New Years. After we drove past the entrance we walked the 180m back to the cache. We went and it was a quick find. The cache lookbook and content are wet. Too wet for my sticker and I didnt feel like etching my name in the notebook. Sorry I didnt have anything to put in so this will need a replacement logbook at the least. TFTC
Drove almost to it - then a quick stroll to gz - a great little cache and the lake was looking cold but inviting to explore ( if we had had our boat !!!!) thanks for bringing us here and the cache
Was a lovely spot and i can imagine over summer this area be buzzing with people. One day maybe we will join in with them and grab more caches in this area
Was great to be able to get so close to the cache to grab it before the next shower gets us.

What a lovely wee spot, a massive tree(s?) and great view of the mountains over the lake! Cheers Gav [9526]
Not only did we find the cache, we also found a big stash of Road cones!!!
A very pleasant family outing on a visit back to the Coast from earthquake ravaged Christchurch. A lovely but overcast day at the lake. TFTC
A quick find while the motor ran and the leader chatted to a lady on the beach... she was feeling a bit dewy after sleeping on the beach for the night. Nice hide. Loved our visit to this lake!
Dad isn't doing too well. Leaning on mum and signs of old age (Saphrophitic fungi). And one of his unwelcome visitors, Flexible Jack, nearly took my eye out. Lovely spot this morning. Have to hurry out - car rally soon. I pity the locals. TFTC
With the rest of the clan enjoying lunch at the township, decided it would be a nice walk this way to find this cache. And it was. Peaceful walk along the road and then a short wander along the beach made for an enjoyable cache find. TNLN Thanks
What a lovely spot. Had a bit of a scramble but located the cache without problems

Spent a miserable night at the DOC camping ground.
It absolutely persisted down.
Arose in the morning, packed a wet tent and popped down the road to find a clean log book.
That sure was one way to improve our day.
Drove on up to Dorothy falls afterwards which were absolutely spectacular.
Began our return to Kaniere to find that a tree had fallen in the mean time.
Luckily we were able to drive under the trunk.
The beginning of a fun day.
