Great spot! Were enjoying exploring this historical region. Were third to sign the nice new log. Thank you.
An interesting piece of history, and well worth stopped to read .....(and find a cache)
I visited Gabriels gully a number of years ago just after I moved to Nz and before I started caching. I thought it was a gravel road and I dont remember seeing this memorial. Caching made me see it this time. Soon had the cache in hand. Logbook was getting close to full so I replaced it with a new slip of paper. I have the old log if the CO wants it. Thanks for the cache, drawp#6172 ** Make your way to Dunedin for New Zealands next Mega Event. GCA7ZHD Geo Toroa will be held on NZs Labour Day long weekend 26-27th October 2024 **
TFTC just thinking that caching really pales in significance to what these guys would have gone through looking for their treasure!
Headed up to Gabriel's Gully today. This was a simple find, and a nice place to stop. Tftc!
With a few hours to wait before the shuttle arrived we had a ride up to Gabriels Gully and a look around the town. The mining really interesting, pretty in the gardens with spring flowers. Well worth a stop. TFTC
After completing the Gabriel’s Gully walk and picking up a bunch of caches, we were heading away and stopped for this one. It was a quick find. Enjoying the history of the area. #6085. TFTC.
In Dunedin for a wee Easter school holiday adventure. Rather wet so not sure what we'll be doing for the few days that we are down here! Today the aim was to visit Lawrence and Gabriels Gully as MrsTGs ancesters mined the area....patchy rain so we'll see how the day goes!
Heading for Gabriel's Gully and the walk aroundd the area...bit of drizzle but hay, we have raincoats and umbrella's....boys not so thrilled. A quick find here, Spooked the yearlings over the fence....

Tftc stopped by to see the horses too. Cool gold mining relic area!!! Off to the Gully now for a good walk
Quick easy find with vz1pp. Thanks for bringing us to this historic place. All of my ancestors were goldminers arriving from the Bendigo ( Australia) mines to Waipori. I might've been an Ozzie otherwise, rather than a kiwi . Tftc
Kia pai tou koutou Wiki o Te Reo Māori . Kua haere mai māua ki te hotēra, ā, akuanei, ka timata te hikoi, i mua i te tonga o te rā.
A nice quick find. Put in a new waterproof sheet so hopefully should be good to go. Thanks for placing your cache.
Time for another road trip for Ms_KR and KR, so we headed south toward Otago. We cruised through from Ranfurly to Lawrence today, With some biking and some walking too. Another glorious day.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

We stopped here on the way out. A cool memorial and worthy of a cache. Us Bay of Plenty people have a different interpretation of "post" so after no luck there we looked in other likely spots to locate the nicely blended in cache. Thanks for the cache drawp
It was tricky trying to get a good fix on the co ords..so used geo sense not sure I would call that a post..its a ____ tah all day long vool spot worthy of a cache thanks
Day two caching and seeing the sights of Otago and a bit of Southland with raylnz (big Sis from CH-Ch.) Brilliant day in Lawrence. Good to be out and about before our next self-imposed home detention. tftc
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit … we are now parked up in Lawerence for a couple days … some biking on the Clutha Goldfields Trail & walking into Gabriels Gully are on the agenda … decided we would do the loop track around Gabriels Gully today … be rude not to grab a few caches … found with no issues, log completed & successfully returned … pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally … TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #2,044 for us.
Good to finally stop and look at this monument. Wondered which tree the smaller plaque referred to. Flamingo4850 found this one first; container blends in well. TFTC.
Quick find on my way back from a nosy at what’s left of the Bluespur Township. TFTC!
We were down in Invercargill for a week then travelled around a bit and we passed quite a few caches and i was able to stop and locate some and then made our way through to Dunedin for a reunion . this was an interesting monument as we went up to the gabriel's Gully site. and i took some photos which i will post later.
Thank you for these caches
Thank you for these caches
Good place to wrap up my trip here where it all started 100 years before I was born.
A quick find. Time was limited, wanted to grab all at Gabriels Gully, but we'll have to come back and stay a bit longer next time.
A lovely day for a spot of caching today. Log was sopping wet and unsignable so we replaced the log. TFTC
It is my opinion that it is good that caches such as these exist, for they aid with keeping connected with stories from the past. After all, it is the past that created today.
Thank you for the cache.
Thank you for the cache.
Quick find while looking at a potential block of forestry to buy. A quick find and splash around in the ditch for me and the geopups.

Nice quick find, though it's not quite screwed in no matter how you wiggle it. TFTC
.Its mid afternoon and the sun is shining - not stars thankfully. We are heading to the rim walkway. But had to stop here on the way. Quick snag and tag. Cheers. Thanks for the info on Gabriel on the cache page.
Its Wednesday 24 April and we are off exploring Milburn, Lawrence and Lake Mahinarangi today. Awesome!!
Its another awesome geoventure to Dunedin, with The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby, Jack, Jill and William all along for the trip. Had a wonderful 10 days exploring Dunedin. It was great catching up with local cachers at several events we attended. Lots of walking and driving, with the odd cycle and wave ride to jazz things up. Thanks to all the COs that made this trip a wonderful success. Even managed to bag some lab caches along with wherigos, earth caches and events, with the usual mix taking us to some amazing places..

Now I remember why we came this way! I am writing up this cache two weeks after the find (we found 300 caches over Easter, it takes a while to write the logs). Oh, yes. I love mining caches. Well, I love historical caches, and gold mining is certainly historical. Like the history on the cache page. If the cache was bigger it would have been a favourite.
Taybeedragon and I have an eleven day Easter weekend in Dunedin. Although, let's face it, given that we are from Blenheim and Picton that means two of those days was spent in travelling. In that time we grabbed a smidge over three hundred caches. Not bad, considering the amount of time spent way out on the back roads, on bicycles or canoeing on the water. A few virtuals, larges, letterboxes, earths, wherigos, and even ten lab caches in the haul. An awesome weekend!

Pop used to trade around the Lawrence district and Gabriel Read's name was brought up in conversations occasionally around the tea tables at the rellies. I had never been to Gabriel's gully before and got some surprises when I drove round the corners towards the end. Stopped by to check out the monument and pick up the wee con at it's place and SL initials and returned. TFTC Drawp.
Heading back to Dunedin after our holiday and in no rush today so able to stop several times along the way! Geohusband has never been up here so was nice for him to see this and for me to get another smiley. TFTC!
WhTs not to love about a caching trip combined with downsouthinv having to deliver parts for work.
Any excuse is a good one, and time to head off the main road into the wilderness to find us some caches.

Many thanks to all the COs who helped make our geocaching holiday a great success
We left home early April and returned 21 May 2018. We toured from our home base up to a wedding in North Taranaki then carried on heading south right down through wellington and on down the west coast and back up via the eastern side of the alps some times going around in circles. Our aim was to get as many smiley faces on the puzzle caches that we had solved but of course stopping for many traditionals, multies and others as we went. some time we biked the bike trails or walked but mostly by campervan. we enjoyed the quite back country roads, many of them were metal but we just travelled along slowly going from cache to cache. Most caches were in good condition and I will remark if we thought it needs maintence etc.
