always interesting reading some of the headstones, and we get to find a cache while here, tftc
Heading through to Bluff today, and stopped here along the way to grab this cache. Nice quick find, all good here, cheers
Day Fourteen of our epic New Zealand Adventure with The Morris. The Mega day today and we spent it traveling from Dunedin to Invercargill. The weather improved this morning, and only occasional shower during our trip.We left early and were in Invercargill by lunchtime.A nice little cemetery. Interesting history of the wreck. Thanks, Robmc.
Day 14 of our Enzed adventures with Robmc and we say farewell to Dunedin and head to Invercargill so the fellas can visit the motorcycle museums. Most of the morning was just driving the scenic route with intermittent rain, time constraints and some closures meaning we skipped quite a few caches. After we arrived and the fellas had their fill we toured around town and headed to Bluff for the afternoon until hunger and cold sent us back indoors. An interesting story in a very pretty spot. Thanks for contributing to the fun
bunadoorian and I left Invercargill this morning and had stopped down the road at the cafe for some morning tea. We thought we would pick up this cache as we were driving past. I found this cache first. TFTC and for bringing us here bladesedge. I found it interesting it was the children of the Fortrose school with other nearby schools that erected the monument to S.S. Tararua.
Grub62 and I were just passing and thought that we would grab this cache. The cache was found in good condition. Thanks for the entertainment and TFTC.
Of all the times we've been here I never thought to check for cache....TheTravellerJnr had a good look around while Mumma went on the hunt, after a quick search cache was soon in hand
We are staying in Fortrose for a few days the end of our Catlins tour. Been a very mixed bag of weather so havent been able to explore as much as we wanted. Today I am out for a bike ride first to get a couple of caches near Fortrose and then out to Waipapa Point and back. Ended up with 7 caches and a 42km ride.A quick find here before the big road ride. TFTC
Quick find. Great look into the regions history and those who were here a long time ago.
Quick find after a bit of a search. Thanks very much for bringing us to this interesting place.
So many sad stories when you read the headstones here but a pleasant place to visit. Tftc
So peaceful here. A short search & the cache was found. Thanks for placing this one.
I'm doing a road trip through Southland. Today's leg is from Dunedin to Invercargill by way of the Catlins and Bluff. Old School Challenge caches are the focus of the trip, but there's a few others to look for along the way as well. A quick find on a windy afternoon. TFTC
We had to be mindful of another couple here who were looking for relatives who were buried here.
Fortunately they were just out of sight, so we were able to make the find without any issue.
Thanks for putting this here

Stayed a couple of nights at the freedom camping spot down the hill at Fortrose along with a gazillion others. Lovely spot to stay right on the beach, lots of sea birds to watch feeding in the evening.
Had to come and find this cache while so close by.
Some interesting headstones here.
Quick easy find. TFTC.

Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit … we are now parked up at the NZMCA Niagara campsite for a couple of days, exploring in & around the area … we went for a bit of a drive this afternoon & thought it would be rude not to check this cache out … nice quiet country cemetery, just where we like to cache, not likely to be disturbed by the inhabitants or the neighbours … found with no issues, log completed & cache returned … pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally … TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #2,190 for us.
I think I may have been here before, possibly last winter - but at the time it was very wet underfoot & I didn't persist.
Today it was sunny and still; so much sunshine that the fence was quite hot to touch !
Thank you for this cache, bladesedge.

We are slowly heading back home after finishing the hump ridge track , picking up few caches on the way. It was an incredible three days of pure magic. Thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it.
We tried to collect caches placed in cemetaries when we are in the area, may be because of the spiritual connection we share with the dearly departed. Cache was found exactly where the hint said and cache is all good here. TFTC

Day #2 of my Summer Holiday and time to explore around the southernmost part of the South Island
Took a bit of back and forth for this one but gladly soon had cache in hand. Was surprised but glad to see a toilet near the gate. Can't say I recall any cemetery I've visited before having a restroom on site!!! I'd like to say I was dying for a pee but thats not very PC TFTC

25 October 2021 12:09 pm fascinating history in this cemetery. Lots of drownings to be expected in the area. Heartbreaking for the family of the 18yr old who drowned trying to save the 10yr old brother who also drowned. We also had to find the grave stone that used to have "murdered by her husband" on it until the priest ordered it to be chiseled off. Tftc bladesedge
On our way to Curio Bay, we decided to look for a couple of caches. A well maintained cemetery l.
I have a bit of an interest in shipwrecks so when I saw the name of this cache I made a point of stopping on the way towards Invercargill this afternoon. All very tragic. I had a chat with a guy who was gardening nearby, he knew about all the caches in Fortrose. Found the cache fairly quickly. Signed log, TFTC.
Once we honed in on the right post it was a nice easy find. Very peaceful spot. TFTC
Found after a small false start at the wrong fence post, cache is in good condition TFTC

Another stop on the way to Invercargill. A very tragic incident in the past.
I didn't disturb any of the residents here.
Cheers for the cache.

Another new thing we have learned with our new hobby. A very nice set out place. Signed the log, thanks for bringing us here. Thanks for the cache bladesedge.
A very windy day when we visited Waipapa, but we enjoyed a great walk around, reading all the signs, saddened to learn of the demise of these passengers. Thank you for thoughtfully placing this cache here.
Easy find today, it appears now to be a pill bottle and the lid is cracked, it has been placed upside down, which is keeping everything dry at the moment.

Many thanks to all the COs who helped make our geocaching holiday a great success
We left home early April and returned 21 May 2018. We toured from our home base up to a wedding in North Taranaki then carried on heading south right down through wellington and on down the west coast and back up via the eastern side of the alps some times going around in circles. Our aim was to get as many smiley faces on the puzzle caches that we had solved but of course stopping for many traditionals, multies and others as we went. some time we biked the bike trails or walked but mostly by campervan. we enjoyed the quite back country roads, many of them were metal but we just travelled along slowly going from cache to cache. Most caches were in good condition and I will remark if we thought it needs maintence etc.

I had wondered why there wasn't a cache at the burial site near Waipapa Point so pleased to see this one here. I have been extremely impressed by the records at by the cemeteries in this part of the country - relating the history of the various cemeteries and listing the names/plots. It would be very helpful to those researching family histories but it also makes for a quick look to see if there are any family members here for a visitor like me. TFTC # 12,002
Found with VikingNav today while exploring the area in the rain. It's never too wet to find a great cache! Thanks for hiding this one! >^..^
Taking a drive on an off and on rainy day through the Catlins. Stopping along the way to see some of the sights, and of course to find a few caches. After speeding some time at Waipapa point and seeing the where the SS Tararua wrecked, we decided to come get this cache, and see the monument. Thanks for all the fun caches.
783 After reading about the shipwreck at the other cache it was interesting to find the graves.
Visiting Invercargill for Xmas and managed to get some caching in.
We always look out for cemetery caches, and then spend more time wandering around the headstones.

After grabbing a few caches in the area, we visited the light house and read up about the S.S Tararua tragedy. Such a dark day for New Zealand. It only seemed fitting to come here to visit the monument for those who lost their lives on that horrific night. TFTC
Last stop for us here today, and sadly the sailors many years ago also. Nice wee cemetery with so much history.
on today's schedule was a visit to the catlins. sunny weather, beautiful views, historically interesting places and some caches along the road made it a very pleasant day. in the evening i could even watch some seals. TFTC!
