We did find the right path but it can hardly be called a path anymore. It's clearly not maintained and nature is taking over here. After much effort we did reach GZ but it's practically a jungle how ever to find a cache here? We were already very tired from the bush walk so had no energy to search many square meters of bush with maybe a cache still laying around. I think this one needs some change, either:
- Much higher D/T rating to better indicate the difficulty
- Much clearer hint/description and preferrably also a clear spoiler photo
- Archive the cache
Thanks for taking the effort to update this one!

Our for afternoon with 7 year old caching decided to come to Kawerau for the new caches and a few old caches we haven't got. Last cache today just the two on mountain left but will do that another day without the 7byear old

I'd had an itch to head this way for a while now so I contacted my mid week caching partner Mc Jandals and proposed a nice little clean up of the area. We had quite the adventure today caching from dawn till dusk finding some really neat caches in some beautiful areas. I managed to walk away with 23 caches with the highlights being the Tarawera Falls and our cheeky virtual FTF.
This cache was found quickly thanks to accurate coords, a straight forward hint and placement. A seemingly random spot for a geocache and the log wasn't in the best condition. Log sheet replaced and we were back on our way. Cheers tjr-nz, TFTC

On a trip with Philip.Perry trying to get this area cleared . II am logging using the Cachly app template so please excuse generic logging along the way. It’s just my way of keeping track, but I do genuinely thank each and every one of you cache owners for taking the time and energy to place these caches. Many Thanks for bringing us back here. Cheers
Found, many thanks to the clues in activity log. Contents saturated but still able to write with pen. Pencil wont work. We've replaced in same spot but slightly off the ground to try and keep it dry
We took the same approach as Rubbishparty, although we were a bit worried by the road signs, which seemed to imply we needed a permit to drive along the road? We found the start of the track (S38 06.485 E176 42.266) which goes almost straight to the cache, although we made the mistake of leaving it too early. We continued along the main track to find the side track 40 metres from the cache, and after that it didn't take too long to find the cache. It was very wet, so we added some silica gel, and put the cache container inside one of the plastic bags before replacing it. TFTC
Wasn't sure how to get to this but worked out fine. Took Tarawera Road towards Tarawera falls. When about 600m from the cache found a track and area to park. The track headed back north to the cache. About 40m from the cache found a small footpath that ran straight to the river. About halfway down the footpath headed off the track and was surprised to quickly find the cache in clear view. TFTC
Great spot, found while on an early morning run, log a bit damp despite being inside 2 bags, thanks
On a day trip to Kawerau to visit friends and do some caching; unfortunately couldn't work out how to access this one so may return another day after doing some more research.
1340 GAFF1 We walked slightly past the side track that leads into here, but soon found the way. Tho I continued to follow it out, when we may have been better off to go back that 30 m or so, as I think I took a photo of the tortuous track from there on out to the main one - it looked like some of the Maori carvings, with a whole stream of convoluted swirls. All good with the cache.

Out and about testing out my new Garmin for the very first time. If it cuts down on my iPhone dependence, I'll be happy.
First cache... the Garmin found it no problem. Helps when the cache is uncovered. Some very suspect paraphernalia spotted trackside on the way here. TFTC.

Only cache left from my last visit to the area. Had the time for the long walk along the river this time.
We went through lakes and over trees to find this one and a great detour on our way back since the old track is unpassable. but was a great day thank you tjr-nz
we found it after finding the Tarawera river walk one.

Dad hadn't done enough running, so sent him off to get these two river walk caches, while we went for the "slalom" cache. Left a pet rock - a grey fox
Walk on the wild side - not many signs on this sie of the river, so just hoped that, we would get back to the car on the loop - Information Centre were not very helpful - nice easy find
Good walk - could fo with a few more direction signs - Found cache easily and all good TFTC
The river was flowing fast & furious - not very conducive for swimming... So it was a nice walk on a sunny day and we were happy with that. Found the cache in good condition. TFTC
I parked at the golf course, but it was still a long walk to cache. I would not have survived the swim across the river today - it was a very fast flowing and I am a poor swimmer! TFTC
Been wanting to get out here and collect the two River caches on a Mt bike ride. Have biked lots of the tracks in and around Kawerau over the years and always nice to revist. Would have done the swim option if it was warmer and the river lower - haha yeah right - anyway tftc enjoyed the ride and found a new track that i hadn't been on before.
Finally went up to find this cache and it took quite a hunt (our GPS struggles under trees). Got some lovely river pics in the late afternoon sun. Took nothing, left a little whistle.
Thanks for this great cache.

Yay another FTF for us, after a long day and night caching in Auckland we left this one for a while before deciding to head to Kawerau to collect the 2 new caches, plus the fact it was too hot to do much else I decided to choose the swim option, the water was still a bit muddy from the recent rain but perfectly swimmable, nice and refreshing too, the 30 odd muggle locals thought so too!!
I managed to get to the other side ok and climb up the far bank, onto the track in my bare feet and in for the find, I had expected the cache to be claimed already but the book was blank!! Thanks tjr-NZ for the placement, I have kayaked from this spot before, a perfect spot for a cache placement.
None of the muggles seemed keen to follow me across to the other side of the river!!
