We found the church, but this is now on private locked property.. Great location though...
Down in Christchurch with the Squirrel, ABCDF4 and eyespyben. During Covid lockdown, we solved a load of puzzles and decided that this would be a good time to visit. We've enjoyed a few days of good weather and seeing the Canterbury countryside. The caches have been in varying states - some good, some not so much. Our time here has been a blast, and we'd like to thank all COs who have made this adventure possible. Thank you and TFTC.
With ABCDF4, eyespyben, and Gap (of Fap and Gap). Logging all finds as Team HRP (Huntly, Rotorua, Papamoa - Our hometowns)... During Covid-19 lockdown, we solved a truck load of puzzles around Christchurch - Canterbury region. No use thrashing the old grey matter for no cause - We decided we should make good on this handiwork...
There are lots of interesting trails and geoart surrounding Christchurch. What you aren’t told is how far flung some of these caches actually are. Some beforehand advice would have been great, so here are some of my notes... You’re welcome!
1. Mobile coverage is patchy, especially in those quiet, rural areas where it was most needed. Saving caches to offline might show that you are prepared and organised...
2. There are many dusty metal roads on the trails. The car will get messy, and your hair will feel like cardboard at the end of the day...
3. Suitable clothing and footwear are essential. You will climb in and out of hedges, gorse, and other rough stuff. You might get scratched, cut to shreds, and bleed a lot. It’s not advised to wear your brand new jacket on the day...
4. Take lots of food and drink. You’ll probably be head down, tail up and not realise you haven’t eaten until late afternoon. There are very few shops or gas stations out there...
5. Make sure that you secure keys and wallet and know where these are placed for easy retrieval. A full box of pens might be useful too, especially if you’re inclined to free some into the wild...
6. Know the difference between left and right, and north, south, east, and west. Turning right and heading north will not get you to South Christchurch quickly.
7. Look with girl’s eyes rather than boys eyes... Some caches haven’t been found in a while and you might have to get down on your knees to pray.
8. Always be prepared for misleading hints. This is what turns simple caches into D5/T5 hides... “Head height” could mean the cache is positioned at your toes.
9. Have a sense of humour and like the people you go caching with. It’s going to be a very long day, and you might want to hurt someone during the journey...
10. Make sure you can operate your phone/device and it doesn’t crash when you most need it...
11. Learn to cut and paste logs because you’re going to repeat this function so often when logging all of your finds.
12. Above all else, have fun and be kind...
We have another one of those punishing plans to cache until we drop - An early morning start with the hope that we'll finish at a reasonable time... From South Christchurch, we took Highway 1 and crossed the Waimakariri River into Northern Christchurch... A small group were being shown around the buildings. Are they for sale? A quick find around the side. Thanks bumandworker and TFTC.

After puzzle solving in the Canterbury region along with ABCDF4 we were invited to join Fap (from Fap & Gap) and Squirrel Nutcase to a week long caching adventure in the Canterbury area. With flights and accommodation booked were off, all met up in ChCh. and many hard dusty Kms travelled and many caches found, I think the Squirrel has said it all in his brief. Many thanks for the placements and Cos for bringin us to the very pleasant areas we travelled in to your region

Nice quick find - but somewhat delayed by the GPS batteries choosing the worst moment to go flat. Dogs enjoyed the stretch. Many Thanks
A fairly quick find and I love how geocaching takes you to interesting places.

Time to head back to town! Thanks for placing a cache here. I recognise the name Horrell from genealogy. I believe Mr Hostel an early pioneer wrote an index of early settlers in this area. #2918
Mrs SB was away with her girlfriends so Daddy was in charge. Number 2 got to go geocaching yesterday as her big sister was at a birthday party. Today they both wanted to go. So off we went with the hope and equipment to open a very special cache! This was the second visit and Quincey made the grab whilst her little sister got to open the cache. Thanks for the effort that goes in to placing and maintaining the cache.
thanks for the placement, we have been loved travelling and visiting the roads of Christchurch and the many caches each CO has taken the time to place, thank you for taking the time to place and maintain them.
Oh it is times like this that I really miss GK. He usually puts his hands into places like this to find the cache. I did it but did not like it. The next service is at the end of October so plenty of warning for anyone who wishes to attend. TFTC
I went out for a day of caching, with no specific plans, just picking the next one off the map. I realised that I did not include many going north in the PQ, so heading west would be my best bet. This one took longer to locate than it should have, but GPS was jumping all over the place and so was I! TFTC!!
What a delightful place, and we had a chat with a lovely lady in the hall as she was doing a sterling job at having a clean up.The community is hoping to use the hall more and are planning a jazz festival - - it sounds great. TFTC
Begins our holiday in NZ in Christchurch, we came from Italy to find our son who lives there for two years.
After being in the North Island in Wellington area to hunt for historical cache and spending a few days at sea while finding bad weather without being able to take to the beach, here we are back in Chch, we decide to resume the trail already made in part two weeks ago , we reach Oxford and back.
Thanks for the laying and maintenance of this trail

Cute little church. we saw a bunny rabbit as we approached this cache. Been a long day caching. getting tired now. Quick find of cache. On a 11 day caching trip around the south island. Log signed as b&p.Tftc bumandworker. Find # 3409
Today we enjoyed picking up caches from the lolly scramble trail, the fruit and vege trail, the cust trail and other various caches around the area. We found 50 caches altogether and had a great day. Caching with Injeanious and theBurnsy we signed the log books as JeJeBu to save time and space. Thanks to the cache owners for placing and maintaining the caches! Sorry for the cut and paste logs.
It's been a slow couple of months for me and Jess.daphne, so we decided to team up with The Burnsy and get a whole lot of caches. We headed off to pick up more of the Lolly Scramble, Fruit and Vege, and Cust trails, signing the logs as JeJeBu. We had a great day and grabbed 50 caches. Our best day yet! Thanks to the COs for the caches.
Such a sweet little church, I spent so much time looking at it that I nearly forgot to look for the cache. Tftc.

Decided that on my last day of my holiday I'd do a blitz in the area before I fly home tomorrow, now a very tired bunny!
Boys competed to find this one but it was Crood L that found it. Signed and on our way....One more maybe. Tftc
After solving an unfound puzzle caches I headed out today to try for the FTF and of course stopped for a few more caches on the way and back.

The next on our 210 run finding caches for the day with our team of four- HHSS. Working as a team each doing diff. roles we were able to speed up the find rate quite well and we managed to do about the first 100 with no Did Not Finds but after that the distances increased and the find rate dropped but we still managed to finish the day with 210 cache. The seagnoid has planned etc our route so it was all efficient Thank you to The Seagnoid for this pre work and thank you to the different cache Owners for these great, interesting caches. I just loved the huge chuppa chup and all the veges and fruit. . Thank you for the cache and another smiley face.

[green] Out with Hanknstone, Haydn.seek and thestepahine on an awesome 200+ day. We managed to get 210 caches in 11 hours, an average of 3 minutes each. There were a few awesome caches out there, but mostly it was a blur. Thanks to all the cache owners, and my apologies about the cut and paste!

Hanknstone, Haydn.seek, the Seagnoid and I had a challenge of doing 200 caches in a day. We started at 7:30am and finished around 8:00pm with a total of 200+. Apologies for the copy and pasting of the logs but there were so many we found that it would take so long to write them all up individually! Thank you for the find.
We had targeted this cache to get the last one we needed to qualify for the 172 Degrees challenge. A nice historic church and a quick find. Thanks.
Our team for the Mega weekend was signing as VYV (Vamber, Yorkshirekiwi83 and Vistra). we found quite a few in the short space of time we were together, where I can I will make comments about the cache. We had teamed up back in Auckland and had been busy planning what we were going to target and in what order, of course plans changed even more so when we were down here, but that is part of what makes it fun and I had a great time over the weekend, thanks to all the CO's for placing.

Day 3 in Christchurch and I again teamed up with yorkshirekiwi83 and vamber for another big day of caching. We signed the logs as "VYV" to save time and space on the logs. We made an early start to the day as we knew we would be going for 200 caches. We started with the Lolly Scramble caches (which we had begun the night before) and made our way up to Oxford, before returning to Kaiapoi and working on the Horses 101 series, finding a number of other caches along the way. Apologies for the generic logs, but thank you to all the cache owners for placing these caches!

Another quick find on Day 2 of the Mega, hitting the roads of Canterbury with vistra and yorkshirekiwi83, gathering the caches that the area had to offer. A quick find here, thanks for the hide!
How do you manage to find all these cycleways that one doesn't know about - yet another fairly close one that I should try out one day - just need the right gear to do it.
Caching with capperz and G H 6 7 1 0 chasing caches and numbers across the Canterbury area. Was a great MEGA weekend and thanks to all the CO's who made it all possible.

An epic day of caching today, out to achieve 200+ finds in a day while I'm in Christchurch for the Mega event. There was also the lure of a virtual cache down in Peel forest, which isn't really that far from the numbers game along Thompsons track. A great day out and about, revisiting places I haven't been in years, and finding new places along the way. I teamed up with Capperz and Nightowl19 at 0600 in Rolleston, and off we headed in my cache mobile and general all purpose off road land rover. We signed the logs primarily as G C N to save space and time. Sorry about the cut and paste logs, but with over 200 caches to log it's going to take me a while to catch up. Thanks to all the Cache owners for the time taken to place and maintain them, and making it all possible. A nice series this, T F T C
Off to the Mega this weekend and a 2 day pass has been granted for Geocaching purposes. It being a long weekend and all there was definitely a plan to get some caches and keep the numbers ticking along. Finished work at 12.00 and waited for the accompanying nightowl19 to finish her school morning. Pick her up and back home to get changed and a bite to eat before heading down the line. There's an event in Rangiora that we'd like to attend and we need to check into our accommodation. All interspersed with few caches too. Today is the planned 200 plus in a day, to be followed by as many types in a day on Sunday, then back home Sunday arvo. Quite the whistle-stop tour. Weather played fair, we ate take aways all weekend. . . . . . . . . . . shameful parenting, and had a great time. Even got to cache with G H 6 7 1 0 too, bonus. We set off at 0600 and were all done by 2000 so not toooo long a day. A few hundred kms driven by G H and in the comfort of his 4 x 4 too.
To all the COs that placed these caches many thanks for facilitating this epic journey and (normally difficult caching target. In Marlborough I've already done so many so big numbers days are nigh on impossible without having to travel out great distances. Most logs were signed G C N being an acronym of our combined caching names. We replaced around half a dozen which were plainly missing on Thompsons Track which will surely help those who follow us.
Apologies for the cut and past logs and last of all T F T C all . Thanks

Found during the Mega weekend on bit of a tiki-tour around the Canterbury back blocks. Great weather, great caches, great fun! Thanks to all the cache owners for putting out and maintaining caches for us to find. All in all, a fun road trip with Boxhill and Yeetrees, we signed many of the logsheets as YGB to save both time and logsheet spaces.

In town for a “Mega” weekend of caching. I joined up with Yeetrees and gonefishing to form Team YGB. I really enjoyed exploring the country roads of Canterbury. We travelled a fair few Kilometres in the 4 days we were here, and had a great time, with a lot of laughs along the way. Good weather, and good company. It doesn’t get much better than that does it.

Found with Chosen1978, Mrs Hazzer and Kiwigeoswami as team PEGS during CHCH Mega. Grabbed a photo of the sign for work collegue whose family came from this area.
This Cache was found during our Christchurch Mega Road Trip from the Deep South. A fabulous time was had exploring the region and discovering caches. All in all, a fun road trip with Granville86a, Mrs Hazzer and KiwiGeoswami, we signed the log as a Team under the name P.E.G.S to save both time and logsheet spaces. Thank you for the cache! This was an interesting site and enjoyed reading some of the history of the area, Thank you
Out and about today collecting Horse puzzles. After finishing those decided to try to clean up some other caches out this way.

A church at Horrellville seems a bit of an oxymoron to me. Surprised to see the last two names in the log were fellow Nelson caches. (sorry Holymu unsure what the right spelling is). TFTC #6481
Well, I had to didn't I with a name like that! This area plays a part in my family history and we had always been bemused by the incorrect spelling of the name which has now been largely corrected. (An example of the original (and incorrect) spelling is to be found at GC3MY07)
It was but a 'short detour' on our way home from an overnight visit to Chch. We will return one day to find some others in the area but for now a couple will suffice.
And just because I can it gets a favourite Thank you bumandworker.

Our visit to ChCh was fast and furious but still allowed enough time for a few caches. The to-do list was a technical faillure so with phone and tablet the have-tos were selected from the to-do list by memory then coords loaded on the GPS. Although a bit out of the way from our travel route This was the no1 have-to. A rich family history started here and the cache was reason to be told some more today. Thank you Bumandworker for placing this cache.
#6881. Even though it was a Sunday afternoon all was quiet at GZ. An nice little spot. TFTC.
An interesting place to stop and investigate. As it was wet on the ground, we were a little reluctant to start searching in earnest until we had checked out the hint. Just where we thought it would be and fortunately was a quick find after that. TFTC.
With a few days work in the south island this is an ideal time to collect a few caches in the evening to fill in the grid, also keeps me from wasting time working in the motel room in the evening.
Got muggled here by the local organist who wanted to know what I was doing, Explained what geocaching was adn his comment was " oh my workmate does that stuff", he was very interested, maybe another convert

Mr Sharpe found it as Mrs Sharpe is finding it hard to bend down at the moment Great wee spot, never knew this was here! Meet some locals and explained what we were looking for and they helped to find.
haha I finally found it before Chelzea. Must have been because I could not park with her door almost on the cache this time. Quick find and sign.
This was one of 48 caches we found today while going after 4 different cache series around the area. Cache was a quick easy find. Hundreds of acorns covered the ground. Thanks for the cache

Guy in church hall readying things for church this evening. He didn't see us enter and cache was quickly found but saw us leave. Gave him a wave. Hope he wasn't too worried.
