Thanks for my first find!

Tftc. Found with Jbsilver and DH. Awesome day out here today.

17-Oct-24
Awesome little find!

28-Jan-24
Stopped off here on our way back to the car. Quick snag and tag. CheersIm in Wellington for a few days. Today having a great day out walking with a friend at Baring Head. awesome place to come on such a beautiful day.

22-Jan-24
Searched under all rocks and finally got it.

19-Jan-24
A much nicer walk to the building now from the carpark compared to the last time I was here. Removed the manky original log and the replacements. Replaced with a new logbook in an additional inner container.

04-Jan-24
Out this was again today and amazed with the track out here now! Pleased to exchange my sad face here for a smile. Ive left a proper waterproof log sheet- although the replacement one mentioned previously is quite dry. Watch out with the hint objects- found a skink under oneVery cool!I went with the well written hint as my coordinates were a bit off (as they were last time and I know the other side of this pump house very well!)I was reading up on this pump house - thinking its quite a way to pump water to the lighthouse keepers home. No, it was built for the WWII observation post (see page 18)https://s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/ehq-production-australia/82d7dc000991ac6a4cd8e9dec981470c19d37d13/documents/attachments/000/005/218/original/Heritage_Features_Research_Report.pdf?1393923264Many thanks

I think this cache could use some maintenance. It's not in dire need because of the temporary log but it needs a "proper" log and to have the manky one removed. The container seems fine and the temporary log is dry which doesn't explain why the original log is not. A future finder might also consider doing that by contacting the CO before visiting but please replace with a proper log and not a scrap of paper!

15-Apr-22
I inexplicably DNFed this a while ago although it turned out not as long ago as I thought. I stopped to get the Catchpool virtual before coming here which was placed before my last visit here - why did I not get it then? With a handful of caches to try today on a short spur-of-the-moment trip down to the coast this was the only one that required any walking - and only 10 minutes or so at that. I made a beeline for the pump house and found the cache immediately in the first place I looked. What? Did I really not there last time? The coords were out by a fair bit but the hint is very prescriptive which is why it was the first place I looked. Many unanswered mysteries today but no DNFs which is great. The original log is unserviceable and the last several logs have been on a random scrap of paper which is somehow remaining dry. Great to clear up this DNF - thanks for placing a cache here.

27-Mar-22
Glad to finally get some of this series after having them on my radar for years as they are near the top of my unfounds closest to home list (as the crow flies!). The pump house has had a bit of a makeover from when the cache page photo was taken. TFTC

17-Feb-22
Fantastic weather for a round trip bike ride to collect this series of caches. VERY interesting ride to get here, hiking the bikes over rocks, scree, soft sand and finally able to ride on the farm track to get here. Cache is all good. TFTC

24-Jan-22
Headed out with B for an Anniversary Day (Wellington, not ours) walk to the Baring head lighthouse. A glorious day! First find of the day by this old pump house. TFTC boxhill!

24-Jan-22
Went for a walk in the baking sun in this exposed area, so D could enjoy some summer. Quick find after we out-waited the previous group, then a quick exploration of the pump house. Thanks boxhill!

05-Jul-21
A nice day to go for a walk and explore the area. A straightforward find with suepate, ACL and owlj. Thanks for placing the cache

04-Jul-21
Nice straight forward first find of the day. Tftc

26-Apr-21
Tftc, found quickly, signed and replaced. All in good condition.

21-Mar-21
Found on an overcast Sunday. This is my first visit out here and it’s a much grander spectacle than I had imagined. Found the cache easily but it was soaked and full of dirt. Cleaned and dried it to the best of my ability and left a replacement temporary log sheet and new pencil. Left the old log book inside but it is soaked and unusable. TFTC

05-Feb-21
Log is saturated- cannot sign. Live the walk though

13-Jan-21
A bit hot and bothered here unfortunately- and a dying phone. Had a good fossick around but not today. Will try another time!

09-Oct-20
Nearly overshot this one but had a poke around and soon found the stash. TFTC, great bit of restoration work here

11-Jul-20
Two rocks

15-Mar-20
I was surprised to DNF this. I usually have trouble with the first cache after a bit of a hiatus but I had no trouble with any other caches I searched for today.

27-Jan-19
This one was very well hidden for us (me). I was off to grab a quick find while R checked out the plantings, explored the pump house and read the visitor book. I was not coming up with anything and giving it up as muggled near the device on the fence. When R steps in and has the cache in hand, what!! R's third for the day before me.. you are doing well young padawan. It was in the right spot after all just very tucked away, nice hide.

30-Nov-18
Tftc, log too wet to sign, not surprising since we have had such a wet November. Cool to be able to go in the pump room.

08-Oct-18
Found it, but the log book is soaking wet, may need done maintenance. Cheers

02-Jun-18
Nice easy find, the pump house is pretty cool, son saw a trapped hedgehog

01-Apr-18
So many muggles around today on these well maintained walking tracks. We had limited time today, so after walking here from the car park, we resolved to revisit the area in the not too distant future and do some of the walks. Thanks for bringing us here, and thanks for the cache.

31-Mar-18
Warm afternoon with a walk to a lighthouse and a few caches on the way, on our last day of our 3 week NZ holiday. Spent the time on the South Island, with just the last three days in Wellington. Here we walked long the Eastbourne tracks, walked around Matiu/Somes Island, and now walking around here. TFTC

28-Jan-18
It took me a while to find it, but with a hint I did it. It's really nice scenery there and the pump doesn't look so vintage as in the log picture, but still very nice. TFTC

01-Jan-18
GPS had me going east of house but found it in the end. TFTC!

11-Dec-17
Absolutely beautiful scenery here today. Truely rural NZ. No problem finding the cache.TFTC Big Grin

Thanks for getting me out here.

21-Mar-17
A day on the coast road collecting caches. Parked at the entry point then a pleasant walk to the old pump house. Eventually tracked it down. 774m towards the DGCS distance challenge. Thanks for the cache.

04-Feb-17
Rode from Eastbourne right around the coast to the Wainui River (well to be fair walked the 1ast kilometer of deep sand) then took a left to follow the track to the pump house and on to the East Harbour car park entrance. More of a walking track with the long grass and various scree slopes making progress sluggish.

In hindsight it is much quicker to approach from the car park rather than from the coast.

Nice quick find thanks to the hint. Picked up a TB that was last registered in June 2016 in Porirua so will help it on its way.

09-Jan-17
Quick find with Roothiebee, TFTC!

02-Oct-16
Once I got back to the car, I wasn't sure whether or not to head out for this one, but the lure of another 772m knocked off the tally for the DGSc kept me going! Took a bit of searching around for this one ( I blame my tired legs for my lack of cache sense), but got there in the end. Many thanks for bringing me to another excellent location, TFTC.

01-Oct-16
after finishing some orienteering in the area it was a short walk to the location before we began looking for the cache. After reading the clue we soon found the cache and logged our visit. Thanks for the cache!
Smile

06-Mar-16
This was our 1 cache for the day. So very hot, and not a lot of wind. A very pleasant walk nevertheless - not too far, but a little bit of exercise. Great views, scary sheep and lots of poo. Thanks for bringing us here.

Third find with chrissymonty and mikeyharris2 on an excellent walk with a bunch of muggles who found our caching exploits quite entertaining. Dipped out on number 1 at the enteance, though - too many posts and rocks to choose from and no GPS signal.

23-Jan-16
Thanks for the cache

03-Sep-14
Thanks for the cache. It was nice place to visit.

27-Aug-14
Seems I did the Baring Head circle the wrong way round as I ended up here for the second cache of the series. The hut is looking better for the coat of paint its had, but as for the cache, I'm afraid its gone. There is still a stone in the right place, but no container in sight. Sorry for the bad news, but thanks for getting me out here.

06-Feb-14
The pump shed is looking a bit more loved now, I assume it was used to pump water the 100 metres up to the water tank next to the old defence buildings at the trig. Quick find, SL TFTC.

06-Feb-14
See as today was Waitangi Day, Banian and I decided to go out to Baring Head. After a very long loop from the carpark to the Trig, to the Lighthouse, to the Pumping station, and finally back to the carpark. The pumping station looks well ke.pt, good job community TFTC

24-Jan-14
Nice location in summer. Nice easy walk round. Will be back to do the others soon tftc

04-Jan-14
It was a big bad windy day out this way today. But better than when we visited a couple of days ago. Is Wellington having any summer weather this summer? We ask ourselves this question.
A relatively newly created regional park area, so mostly following the sheep trails.
Got to the Pump House and made a straightforward find on this one.
Cache in order; log signed, safely re-hidden, just as found.

#4927. Nice walk today in the sun. The Old Pump House now spotted a fresh coat of paint, with wonderful indoor and outdoor seating installed. Plenty of thistles around and en route.

Cache # 1,372 - a very windy day to do the circuit around Baring Head, but Robnzh, Downunder Wanderer and I persevered through the gale. Quick find here, although the path was a bit longer than we expected, as it detoured around several muddy patches. Swapped in a GC and took the TB. TFTC!

15-Nov-13
Second in the series of the wander with The Wandering Dragons and Down Under Wanderer.
A quick find, and The Wandering Dragons' log says the rest pretty well.

15-Nov-13
Found with Robnzh and the Wandering Dragons. Tftc.

28-Oct-13
I found and logged that cache on a nice Labour Day Walk at Baring Head. Nice sunny day after the last stormy weeks in Wellington and lots of sheep running around in that area. Left a TB from Germany in the cache and took another one out. TFTC

21-Sep-13
Quick find at GZ, but getting there was a bit grim in the torrential rain and driving wind today. Decided not to try for the caches higher up on the ridge, and beat a hasty retreat to the car.

23-Mar-13
Found after a pleasant walk from the car park. The pump house has had considerable maintenance done to it and looks pretty good. I was looking for a the building that is shown on the preview.

Thanks Smile

23-Feb-13
Out for a walk on the south coast, so this loop looked like a good one. Beautiful day, and interesting terrain. TFTC

03-Feb-13
I had to walk past this cache in April last year because of a group carrying out maintenance work on the pump house. I managed to identify where it would be hiding but I couldn't retrieve it.

Geocaching has taken me to many places that I don't mind re-visiting. This is certainly one of them. So, after a quick walk from the car park, the series is now complete for me.

08-Apr-12
Please note, I have moved this cache temporarily to behind the strainer post under a rock on the west side of the Pump house as there was a work crew there today and they were about to bury the cache where it was as they need to shore up that side of the building. I have not altered the co-ords as the directions are very clear. I will advise boxhill I have moved it. TFTC

08-Apr-12
Please note that the cache has moved a little due to maintenance work being carried out on the Pump House.

The hint has changed to direct you to the new location.

Thanks to Crazy Kea for their help and prompt action to save the cache from being buried. It’s most appreciated. Cheers Geoff

16-Oct-11
First find on our loop around Baring Head, after a DNF on the Entrance (already logged by others on the trip). A bit boggy along the river, but looking forward to better terrain and views as we climb out of the valley.

16-Oct-11
#2612. We sloshed our way round the track to GZ, and quickly found the cache. Wonder where the water was pumped. To the oberservation post near the trig? Loved the area. TFTC.

16-Oct-11
Our first visit to the area, bringing out-of-towners to show them what they are missing out on. Almost gummies terrain down in the valley, wonder if it ever dries out in summer? A nice easy find in the first spot we looked.

Find #619. Our 4th find for the day in Baring Head park, out of 8 in total. The weather had changed quite a bit and by now is was mostly overcast, which was surprising, considering the forecasters predicted a fine day.

Getting to here really drained us of energy - we had to get off and walk for some bits, such as the steep quad bike trck down to the river and the scree slip along the river bank, and we would have preferred it if they could've removed the fencing wires completely, instead of just leaving them laying around on the track. Oh well. No our problem, not the CO's problem, let the regional council deal with it!

The cache was a quick find in the first place we looked. The photo on the cache page is very well done. Thanks boxhill for the series of caches you have placed around here. SL TFTC.

This was the last cache that was on the Baring head walk / cycleway, we decided to do it anticlockwise with -gonefishing-, was really glad that we chose this route as I would not have wanted to do it going clockwise, especially up the last bit of the hill to get up to the plateau was a bit steeper than coming the other way. It was great that we managed to do the whole circuit on the bike most of the way except for a couple of spots where both Mrs Yeetrees and I decided to walk as we weren't as brave as -gonefishing- about going downhill on a steep slope just yet, but that comes with confidence. Arriving at GZ -gonefishing- and Mrs Yeetrees went and looked for the cache and found it quickly, I decided to drop Skate 2010 travel bug in to the cache for a short stay, thanks for bringing us to this lovely new track, time to head back to the carpark now, not far to go and it mostly flat from here, we really enjoyed this circuit as well as the caches along the way, thanks boxhill for bringing us here, TFTC TNSL (3177)
