Zayn2016 was eagle eyed enough to find this first one on our walk. I'd already searched past it. Neat little hide thank you
What a great set of woods to walk through, thanks for bringing us here.> Caution: large bugs in the area!!How true!
It's December, and to help me achieve one of my Geocaching goals I need to log 300+ caches this month, which means an average of ten a day. I started off well, but had a glitch in the middle which has left me behind my target. Today I was aiming for 30 finds (I got 28) by walking up here. I had ascended the Te Au Track from Huia Street, and been to the left as far as I could go. Then I went to the right, and now I am coming down. I am pleased this descension is not as steep as the other track as everything is a bit slippery now after light rain for the last hour or so. Slow and steady got me there on the trail and with finding the geocaches.---Thanks to tmann421 for placing and maintaining this cache. I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with Geocachers like this creating them and placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues.[DGSc-Bulk] tagging to help me generate a list for GC30AD8 - DGSc Challenge

So we two caches in the same place. One hadn't been found since 2021! Fun find. TFTC.
Mānawatia a Matariki! Decided to check out Hemi Matenga reserve for the first time on a beautiful sunny Friday.
I definitely got a fright but recovered sufficiently to write on the soggy log. Signed as JLT to save space. TFTC

Another cracking day in this very unseasonal June, so off we headed (with Mumma muggle in tow) for a walk around the Kohekohe loop. We were checking out the descriptions and location of each cache from the previous one before racing each other to find from memory.
Some muggles came along as we were locating this one, I think they thought we were going for a pee! The log is getting quite hard to write on as very damp. Wasn’t us!
Thanks!

29 April 2023 12:31 TFTC tmann421 for placing this cache, number 12596 for me. Overshot , so needed to double back, but all in excellent condition once I found it.
My second stop for the day was the Kohekohe Walk. I have already found the other 27 or so caches further up the hill, found over two previous trips, but I never managed to get around this loop. Perfect for a day like today where I had a number of stops to make.
This caused a few problems - my GPSr accuracy was too low - but following the hint carefully got me there. TFTC.

A nice quick find today. I notice that this is another that I dnfed in 2012! A long time between drinks. Thanks for placing your cache.
Ms_KR and I are off for a wee break "up north". Time to move on from the Kapiti Coast, over to Martinborough, through a less well travelled route. The weather was mostly good, but there was the odd shower of rain. Maybe tomorrow we'll get back to summer!
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. .

Out for a wander with TrinityNZ to grab a challenge cache further up the track. We couldn't resist finding out why this one had soooo many favourites - now given a fav as well, lol.

JustLookingOO and I were out this way, so decided to visit this intriguing cache. I poked a likely spot with my walking pole, and there it was. It did give me a bit of a start. I didn’t manage to watch out for the bugs as I successfully collected about eight mosquito bites while signing this log - I’d forgotten to put my insect repellant on. For some reason mosquitos really love me. I don’t think JL got any!
Thanks for the cache

Driven down to Waikanae to attend tmann’s community event this morning. Spent the rest of the day caching in the area. Rained on and off before finally clearing up in the evening. Managed two swims, one in the river and one in the sea. Found 28 caches and 1 DNF.
Stopped for lunch nearby then had a bit more energy to do some walking. Amazing how quickly you are surrounded by native bush despite being so close to town. Great hide. Cache and log all fine. Happy to add to the favourite points. Thanks tmann for the smiley

Found this time! Always good to recover a DNF! Gosh, the forest in here is glorious. Out for a late afternoon walk after a day on the computer. Tftc!
Pretty sure I had the right spot but searched all over the logs. No luck at this one today.
Even with GPS dodgy, the CO's hints are fairly explicit, so I was confident that I was in the right place. No luck today.
A quick find of a very cool container. This was a nice walk, only started feeling puffed around here
What excellent camouflage, the entomologist in the family was particularly impressed with this one! We enjoyed looking at the different fungi around too. Cache number 2 of 6 for us today. TFTC
Thanks CO for the cache series, enjoyed the walk. and lucky I am not afraid of these bugs!
Found on second visit. Amazed I didn't find it before; my geo-nose must have been out.
Thanks tmann421for placing this cache
I walked straight past this kast year when doing the Kohekohe trail... so this time I went after it before going back to the Parata track for a bit more caching & climbing!!
Great cache thanks

Today went out for Kohekohewalk. First cache not easy to find but in the end found a beautiful cache! Hints were very useful. Tftc
GPS was massively off, so took a while to find. In the end just followed the hints. Brilliant hide.
Last time we were up here we did the longer loop so it was time to attack the much shorter loop on our way back from National Park before the mad holiday rush on Sunday. No trouble finding the hint object and the cache was what we expected based on some cryptic comments in the logs and the cache description itself. Nice to see a different style of container.
Wed 24 Doing the loop anti clockwise but the GPS indicated a promising object. Mrs D searched it thoroughly, then Mr D searched the same place and found the cute container.
On my annual pilgrimage to Te Horo today with a couple of hours in hand to find a few caches.
Finally on the Kohekohe Track. I missed the hide on my first run but managed to move enough leaf litter on my second run to disturb the bugs.

One of seven caches found in the Waikanae area this afternoon. Didn’t take too long to find this one thanks to helpful hints. Enjoyed the very pleasant loop walk. #1928. TFTC.
We loved this one - very clever! Enjoying this walk. The log paper was very wet but managed to dry enough to sign, may need to replace "o" ring. TFTC.
The log is rite-in-the-rain paper, it doesn't matter if wet it is designed to be written on even when soaked.
Wipe water off and sign. It doesn't need replacing.

My son and I had a great walk around the Hemi Matenga Reserve back in February, having started at the other end and working our way down to this end, but just before we managed to get to the last few caches the heavens had opened up and we had fled for the car. So I've been meaning to come back to clear up the last remaining few since then, and today turned out to be the day.
Having parked up on Tui Cres and walked towards this cache, we found the pathway initially going away from where we wanted to be heading. So when we were no more than 100m from GZ, we thought we'd have a go at bush-bashing the direct route. Well that was interesting! And we did laugh when we stumbled back onto the path only about 20m from GZ.
The cache itself was a nice easy find, and my lad kept a lookout whilst I signed the log on behalf of both of us. Thank heavens for waterproof paper as the log was soaking wet! But managed to dry it off enough before replacing it all exactly as found, and heading off to the next one.
Thanks for giving us the excuse to come and explore this interesting reserve again.

having trouble with the GPS on the phone we decided to do the loop walk back to the car, however, we managed to find this using the description and hints, our favourite so far
Found with a bit of a search, looks like it had slipped a bit.

Picked doing the short loop with Nz1. Great placement and container. Worthy of fp. Tftc
Good look round but no find today. Signal was bouncing around but clues items easy to locate.
Aahh that was scary!! My little man of 2 said it was his favourite of the day!
The log is completely soaked - it was a new one? Wrote on a piece of paper instead. Loved the hide - didn't guess it was going to be that until I saw it!
We had been here before and had done some of the caches on the Parata track. Commented then that the Kohekohe Loop looked like a good walk and it was. It's a really fantastic piece of bush and the tui were in full song. There are magnificent specimens of kohekohe through here - - - I'd love to come back in June when they are in flower. I see what you mean about the bugs. Enjoyed the cache, thanks.
The log is extremely wet and at the falling apart in your hands stage. Managed to sign SW on an available space.

This was the highlight of the walk, nice hide, and nice container
Had to take photo log, because the paper log was too wet to write on.

Wet walk thru the bush I was with tmann421 he replaced the log while we were in the rain - he is awesome
Fevalas and I spend 5 weeks at this beautiful country. We visit the North and the South Island.
Yesterday the weather was horrible, it was raining cats and Dogs. Today the weather is fine and we are going for a walk on our trip to the National Park Village.
Nice region, we enjoyed the walk. First we were wondering why we found #2 before #1. But than we saw that here are two different rounds. Wedecided for this on and I liked it and leave a favo point. Everything is ok with box and logbook.
Thanks for the cache and best regards from Germany!

Second find on a pleasant loop through kohekohe walk with my 4 year old son. He enjoyed finding the "treasure" with me. Thought this was a particularly cool hide. Gets a favourite point. TFTC
12/02/17 - First find on the smaller trail we decided to hit. This one had us stumped for a while. Bib2 found this first and was instantly shocked. After reading previous logs I knew she must have spotted it. A quick sign and on we went. tftc
After re-entering the bush aftering already having done the hill ascent I decided to zip around this short loop and collect the caches around here. Caution noted for this one then while looking around; what is that?! Upon closer inspection it was wearing a belt which was unexpected and that's because there was a cache tethered to it. Phew. I love it when it a cache can be hidden in plain sight like that - especially in the bush where it can be found by careful observation instead of pawing around in the litter. TFTC.
Heart attack #2 for today! Thanks for that!! Another nicely done cache.
FP for the fright!!

Found on tramping club Sunday trip with 9 others to help us. We made it a "round trip" starting at the Huia Street entrance, walking through the leafy streets to Tui Street, through the Kohekohe Walk, over the Te Au Route, continuing north as far as the "Homer Tree" before returning and dropping down to the cars. An easy walk on a good track, the weather was perfect and the views were stupendous. TFTC
#2241. It was getting late in the day by this stage but I figured there was still enough time to do the Kohekohe Walk loop track. So parked the car in Kakariki Grove and headed off to the north. After doing the nearby letterbox hybrid cache, I headed back downhill to find this cache. I searched the right area initially but missed the cache on the first sweep. So went back up the track to see if I had overlooked anything. Came back to the same object and still couldn't find it. Although the sun had not yet set it was getting very gloomy under the trees at this stage. So pulled out my torch and right in front of me was the cache. Nice find and a great cache for this lovely stand of forest. Signed the log and replaced the cache as found. Thanks for the hiding it here.
Found with TregearP during our first walk in the Hemi Matenga Reserve. Beautiful bush, views and bird life. A great loop track but we only managed the caches on one half as we were on limited time. We will be back!
All in good order, TNLNSL, TFTC.

A good day for a walk in the area, beautiful bush and the birdlife was lovely with hardly any other people out walking. TFTC
We've lived in the area about a year now and have finally got round to seeing what's up the hill. What a beautiful walk! and geocaches as a bonus too! even if there was the odd bug around! This GC made me smile
