Logs
Cache Check.Found log sodden and replaced with RITR logsheet. All good to go again.
A good hill scramble to fine this one … which “end” was it at? Me TEF picked the correct end. Wet log book so photo attached to prove find.
I almost convinced myself that it wasn't there and started back to the Geovan. Two steps later, I figured it had to be there, so I returned and found the cx. TFTC.
16 April 2022 15:04. A quick stop on the way back out. TFTC log too wet to sign, hence photo.
We failed to find this in 2015, when apparently it was missing. A fairly quick find today as we left Canaan Downs. Lifestylea's log was helpful. Despite multiple bags and containers the log was still wet. TFTC
Thanks for putting out this cache for woolwood9 and I to find!??SL tm/ww NZ (may just be a black smudge on the many wet or plastic logs)Weather a bit better today with only a few showers of rainSoon had this cache located!
Parked at the highway and cycled to the Canaan road end (and back).
The 5km uphill to here is barely noticeable in the car! I was glad for a rest.
Made this hard for myself, went beyond the hint, and kept searching deeper into the undergrowth.
Eventually retraced my steps and saw the cache quite clearly, about 1 metre before you get to the hint. All good fun, back on the bike now

Once we found the object it was at the end of, it was easy. But we struggled to see the massive object.
Precise coordinates, so a quick find in the heavy rain. Log was done in the vehicle to protect the log. TFTC
All good, TFTC Bum.
Two days caching in the Takaka area over Labour weekend for myself and Capperz.
80+ caches found, 50km walked on tracks in the area, and some great weather the whole way through.
Some real highlights over this weekend.
Day 1 was my first visit to Harwoods Hole, followed by a trek to Wainui hut and a return trip along the mountain bike track. A 31 km day. Back to our lodgings just in time to (thankfully) ignore the rugby match that was on.
Day 2 started with a nice walk through the Milnthorpe paths, enjoying the interesting changes of vegetation around there; and finished with a walk around the Takaka Hill walkway.
A full on weekend of geocaching then and some great spots visited and nice caches found.
Thanks to all COs. Sorry about the cut and paste but anything relevant to the cache is mentioned above in the first sentence/paragraph.

First cache down this side road and parked pretty much alongside. Nice easy find with the hint. T F T C b&w
A long weekend trip to Takaka with mrs capperz away too meant an early start on Saturday, over the hill(s) and a night at the backpackers before another full on day Sunday and home in time for takeaway pizza. A few caches to pump the numbers along, some great scenery and good company with ricardinho.nz in the co-pilots chair. Over 80 caches found and some awesome photos taken and a 30km plus day on Sat, followed by a 20km plus day on Sunday.

Returning from our main trip to Harwoods Hole and caches around there, this was one more stop on the way back to the main road.
Having seen a few DNFs I came prepared with a replacement cache and log.
I’m pleased to say that this replacement was not needed for its expected purpose as I was able to find the cache at the ‘other’ end of a two-ended thing but I still put the container and log into service as a further container within a container in an attempt to insulate the log from the wet.
All good here. Cache waiting to be found.
Thanks bumandworker

Headed off today to look for an elusive turtle. Still frost and ice on the road in places as we drove in. Met one vehicle coming out, but other than that we were the only ones on the road this morning. Cache was found, dried out moisture in container, signed and returned. tftc
Tregearp and I needed a few more caches in the month to complete part of a challenge we were working on. We left early in the morning and headed up Takaka Hill and the turnoff to Harwoods Hole only to be greeted with a Road Closed - Ice & Grit sign.
After a bit of discussion we decided that we'd proceed with caution and assess the conditions as we went. Although very icy, we made it to the car park at the end of the road without incident and commenced our walk.
The track was significantly more icy than the road with the central track being a river of ice and a Hoare Frost on the tussock and trees. Beautiful but cold.
We scored this cache on our way out - still a lot of ice on the road even at 3 in the afternoon.
All in good order, signed log and replaced as found. Thanks again B&W.

A quick find with SJT_NZ after and enjoyable but icy/frosty walk in Abel Tasman. All in good order, TFTC
Stopped here on my way to Cavernous. I'm glad I didn't take the direct way in from the car as there as a much easier way in.
Nine days to do some caching for the price of four leave days - who could complain about that! I found a quirky place to stay near Motueka, ad decided to base myself there to cache in the wider area. I had a few on my hit list, and ended up finding a great variety of different caches on the trip.
Day two - after having to wait at the lights at the Riwaka end of the hill for an hour (they were broken and we were not keen to head up facing the large truck, so we called and waited for someone from FH to come ad fix it), I realised that it was too late for my original plan, and decided to take a more leisurely approach to things - and shorter walks. There are always interesting caches to be found! This one required a bit of jumping around the potential object, but it ended up being easier than I was making it! TFTC!!

On a week's walking and caching holiday with trifolia argentea we aimed for 100 caches. Thanks to all cache owners.
Found with NZDi. After spending the past month or so stuck at home preparing our house for sale, the looming long weekend called for something special. So three nights were booked in a motel in one of our favourite places... Pohara and early on Friday morning we headed across the hills (firstly the Whangamoas and then the Takaka Hill). We didn't get off to a great start being held up slightly with a flat battery... perhaps I should have taken heed of what the AA man said a few weeks ago when he did a call-out to my address for a similar fault and bought a new one. Fortunately I have become self-sufficient in the flat battery rectification stakes and this was rapidly rectified. Knowing that we were going to a few out of the way places on our weekend endeavours and note wanting a similar experience, I purchased a new battery as we went through Nelson (I couldn't do it in Blenheim because we left too early).
The plan for the weekend was to do some caching in the Golden Bay area on Friday and Saturday, celebrate our 34th wedding anniversary on Sunday with a little more caching but some more traditional anniversary activities, and then do some more caching on the way home. Today's mission was to collect some of the caches in the Canaan Downs area at the top of the Takaka Hill and after getting our first of the day on the way up the hill, we stopped here for the second. Despite the wide open spaces, we couldn't get our GPS devices to settle on any one specific area, so after discounting some of the obvious hiding places, we caste a look further afield. We soon came across a feature that had two items that matched the hint. After discounting the first, easier option, we checked the second to find the cache.

Recent additions to the cache placements made it that we could no longer delay what has been on the to-do list for years. We made it a dedicated day trip with just one slight detour to Brooklyn. We followed the GPS and decided it was going to be here or there. It was there A nice intro to a great caching day. Thank you bumandworker
This was our first stop on the way in to Canaan for a walk to Harwoods Hole. While I checked one area Hazedarus found the cache at the other.
Thank you bumandworker.
Thank you bumandworker.
Found on our way in to stay at the end of the road, the cache was out in the open and full of water - dried it out as best as we could and tucked it away tftc
JDScout, my eldest son and I decided to spend most of the day at Canaan Downs. I had to scramble a bit to find this one.
A quick find this afternoon in the second place checked on the way in to walk to Harwood's Hole. Signed log, TFTC
Last one for the day after another great day exploring the Canaan Downs walks and bike tracks. One car being winched up over the side of the road this morning by the retrieval truck. TFTC #8044
Greetings from Canada. On our way to the Golden Bay Area for a couple of days. Got this one and a couple of the other caches in the park. Now I can say I've been to Able Tasman park.
#10333. A visit to Harwoods Hole has been on our to do list for a while now, and today was the day. The road was a bit narrower than what we were expecting, but there was little traffic on it today. This cache took us a short distance from the road, but once there the cache was an easy find. TFTC.
Despite travelling over Takaka Hill several times over the last 18 months, and being keen to visit Harwood's Hole, we have never had the time to make the detour down this road. Today we made the special trip down yet another windy gravel Tasman road to achieve our objectives and this was the first cache find of the day.
The GPSr was taking its time to decide which direction GZ was in, but shortly it pointed the way and the cache didn't take long to find. It wasn't until the return journey, not far past this location, that we saw the fabulous views over Tasman Bay. TFTC.

I have been past the end of this road SO many times since I've been caching. Today at long last I ventured along it. Out caching with the Cretan Runners who are here for summer and I was doing the tourist guide thing of taking them somewhere they hadn't been before. TFTC .
Our first time in this side of Abel Tasman. Amazed at the size of this place. Out with Sidewaze and this was the start of. Great day. TFTC.
Looked and looked but the kids could not find it and internet was on one bar only. We will need to come back!
On our tour through New Zealand we visited many inspiring places, enjoyed delicious meals, met friendly locals and tourist AND found some Caches.
So this Cache was one on our trip. Thanks a lot for hiding and maintaining.

In Takaka for the weekend picking up a cache or two. Thanks to all those that have placed caches out there it made our holiday just that much more interesting. Quick find thanks
I had a look for this on my way into the Downs but came up empty handed. Maybe I was being too eager wondering if I was going to see some blank log books later on. On my return I lifted the same rock as before but this time I must have had my eyes open because there it was.
At the top of the hill, having left this cache, I was treated to a fabulous view back over the bottom of Tasman Bay to Nelson.

Out for a walk with the CO and he needed to check this one. I had yet to find it so gave it a bit of a nudge before suggesting I had found the right place but no cache. New container appeared from the van and log duly signed.
Thanks bumandworker.

Although we found what seemed a likely object where the cache might be hidden, finding the cache defeated us today. To add insult to injury, Mrs W.E.K.A. discovered she had lost her pen.
Found on way to Harwoods hole. Was aiming for the other caches in the area but there were too many muggles in the area
Found on the way out to the main road after the Luminate Festival
Heaps of traffic and hitch-hikers associated with the festival today, but what a magical location!

Caught the Escape Adventures mountain bike shuttle from Takaka with some locals to ride the Rameka Track back to Takaka. We were dropped off at the saddle - the park entrance. Pulled out the GPS to track the ride and noticed the cache about 20m away, so had to find it before heading off. TFTC.

On the way for an awesome day's riding on the Canaan Loop, the Rameka and the Project. Wonderful area. Great day to be a bum.
Helping with Milk and Honey Cycle Race today so good chance to extend my little smiley sea eastward a bit before the crowd cranks past. Thanks bumandworker.
Found this today with Barekiwi.com, a quick find along the way as we headed for Harwoods Hole. TFTC
found it on a roadtrip around the south Island. it was great fun to discover this one.
Today we are on searching the footsteps from lord of the rings

We had expected there to be ice on the hill when heading to Golden Bay for a short break, but a clear road gave us an earlier start. Which gave us time for a 5km detour to a cache we had bypassed before although not enough time to go further today. Great views back to where we had come from - blue sky and sea - it doesn't get much better and then also a cache. Thanks.

What a magical cache for us today !!! well we have had alsorts today lots of rainbows then all with in an hour a walk in the heavy rain, a walk in the sunshine and then a drive and cache in fresh snow !!!! loved it all fresh snow all around got some great photos!!!! signed log thanks very much for the cache
Not doing this cache today!!! but... with the snow on the top of the hills we had to come have a look . Was a lot of fun heading up here and had to resort to 4wd part of the way to this cache Arrived at GZ. This turned out to be our first snow cache and after trudging around taking photos and then searching for the cache with cold wet hands i finally got it . I had been considering heading down to the flat but decided against it so after carefully doing a 90 point turn we headed down taking more pictures . TFTC
Another quick find on our journey to harwoods. Was a super day. Even was a little bit of snow around. Thanks heaps for the cache
Up this way today checking a possum line we had set on the old Mt Evans track which starts just down the road a bit,Not much of a weekend weather wise for possuming or caching but one has to make the most of the weekends and the traps had to be cleared even if there was rain showers, thunder and Norwest gales.Did a 9k round walk for 25 possums and one geocache so all up it wasn't a bad day in the bush.TFTC
Tried to find it without the GPS, but just too many good spots to choose between. Even with the GPS I walked past it twice until I fluked the right angle. TFTC
FTF! And my final cache found for the day. A nice welcoming, gateway kind of cache it was too. I think I'll definitely be back here to explore the caches further afield when I have more time. TFTC, Biggles.
