I wish to archive this cache - George's Picnic Time (Foxton Beach)

25-Feb-12
^%$#@% cutty grass! And ^%$#@% cachers who hide ^%$#@% caches in ^%$#@% cutty grass!

It's a nice warm day and I had shorts and tee shirt, and I had cycled from Palmerston North so was also a bit sweaty. All in all, an... uncomfortable experience. Would have been ok if I had found the cache but I hadn't. Would normally have searched more but was getting rather cheesed off. [:(!] Mood lifted nicely once I was back on the bike and the cycling endorphins did their thing.

First ever time in this area today. After reading some of the previous logs, I took some heavy leather gauntlets with me and they were very useful, I could dig straight in without fear of injury and was able to find the cache in less than a minute. Signed log, TFTC!

Spoiler alert:

I hate flax plants!!!!!!!

TFTC though Smile

Introducing two new people to the sport of geocaching, and the first one we come to ends up leaving us all cut and bruised, and no cache in sight. It might be there, but we felt bad for the supposed cache guardian, and hope that it survived our intense assault. Sad

Finally! Returned to the area and needed to find this one. Found within 5 minutes including the walk from the car, compared to our last search time! So pleased to find and sign log. TFTC

This cache has now received maintenance and has been replenished with some trades.

19-Jan-12
Great find. The cutty grass can be challenging when looking but isn't as bad as it seems

08-Jan-12
Great spot but not keen on the cache cover. Sent one of the braver mini-cachers in! TFTC

06-Jan-12
Unfortunately the All Blacks aren't watertight. The logbook is soaked- put in replacement book and mini pen in new bag, and added felt pen and fridge magnet.

05-Jan-12
After a swim at Foxton Beach, we wanted a place out of the sand and wind to have afternoon tea. And here was the perfect spot, labelled as such on the GPS. We would never have found it, if it wasn't for caching. Mr Daywalk pulled the cache out instantly- you don't need to put your hand anywhere nasty.

27-Dec-11
The other logs (and advice to use a stick) helped! A few scratches, but good feeling to get this cache after our second try!

16-Dec-11
[Was keen on notching up another towards our first 100 but wasn't fussed on getting cut to shreds. Mr RiffRaff had the most damage in the end but it was limited due to the big stick he fashioned out of a branch. Co-ords took us straight to obvious choice but it wasn't to be. We weren't ]on the 'right' side of the[ track. If you're in the correct place, there's no need to be cut to shreds.

Did not enjoy this cache . Glad I had my walking stick or would not have done this one.

20-Nov-11
Found with edvern today. This was our 2nd visit and the cache was very easily found now where we had previously searched long and thoroughly - so a bit of a mystery - a particularly cunningly hidden cache at that time, or a particularly unobservant geocacher!?! TFTC

20-Nov-11
Accompanied geodatum to look for this one. Hearing of the problems they had in their previous visit, and reading the logs I was expecting this to take some time. Armed with a walking pole, my first poke went "thwack" and there it was! Big Grin I know from experience how thoroughly geodatum persevere with their searches, so there must have been a problem with the hide last time. The track was surprisingly busy this Sunday afternoon and we had to do a bit of loitering.

Found with the help of earlier logs on our third attempt. Tftc

Cutty grass is not my friend. Found the cache but at some cost. Nursing some rather deep cuts this evening. Need to invest in some caching gloves.

Found quickly with the foot, avoided being cut to shreds. TFTC.

Found with TheWonderStuff, his experienced eyes spotted it first. Nice to catch up with him and have a chat about caching.

What a shame I missed thewonderstuff - I want to have a chat with him. Still will probably see him soon. Found cache after some unpleasant searching in nasty bush. SL TFTC

Third time very lucky for me! The first visit my gps was all over the place and never settled so I gave up. The second visit I thoroughly searched the unpleasant local plant life and, while fairly sure where it was, utterly failed to find it. Third time I spent more time looking in the same spots but with the same cache-blindness. As I walked out I noticed a friendly couple walking in with a GPS so I popped back to introduce myself. A shot time later their sharp eyes spotted the cache right where I'd been searching. I suggest taking a step back to find this one - I'd been too close the whole time!

We had a pleasant chat about geocaching and I can finally tick this one off Smile

Not an easy place to search as bushes are very scratchy and we got entangled with several brambles. Certainly you need sturdy shoes and clothers that protect you from bushes. Spoke to a lady walking her dog and explained about geocaching and were then joined by a fellow geocacher who had seen us go down the path on his way out with a did not find so he came back with his walking pole and we finally located the cache. We took the travel bug white union flag lanyard key ring.

Not the nicest plant to search, but fortunately it wasn’t too hard to find, Mrs W.E.K.A. detecting it with her foot. TFTC

25-Jul-11
Nice find on a VERY chilly day. Took about 10 minutes to find with my son out after a couple of caches. Good so see another big container so dropped of a TB "Union Flag Keyring - White". Signed log TFTC.

This was a bonus cache for us as it was less than 200m from the house the friends we were visiting were staying in. Great wee spot and what were the chances. Our friends came for the wander but I don't think they could see what we were so excited about - especially when we pulled out the TB. Quick find too. TFTC

Done with Jyvin. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the cache! Third time I must have been there so many times. In the end I put my food on it. Definitely not a picnic for us!!! Hope George enjoyed his.

NZMamma and I had hunted lots for this at last she found it. Dropped of Frog TB but haven't logged it on. TFTC

We searched for an hour until dark. Having read the previous logs, took reinforcements and 5 of us searched. Scratched and battered. Clue didn't fit to anything that we could work out. On our next visit to Foxton we'll try again!
Surely wasn't a "Picnic Time" for us!

Was heading back south and decided to take a small detour to see if I could find this cache, arriving near GZ I realised that I had being on this walkway a few times, a quick walk and finally got to the final GZ and saw that this area had being searched quite well, was sure that I was near the cache so started to search for it simultaneously and after a quick search all was revealed, decided that the co-ordinates were a bit out but not too bad and that the hint was good enough to take you to the correct location that you could find the cache quite quickly without any issues. Definitely looking for a needle in a haystack BUT lucky for me I found it, thanks for bringing me here, TFTC TNLNSL (3205)

Sad to attempt first Friday night and gave up after an hrs searching. Then again today to no avail Sad This time I had taken reinforcement as well. One day I will get a FTF!!!!!! Very scratched.

FTF.yay for us! A little bit worse for wear and gps had us on other side but we searched and searched and rechecked and then found yay. Added a FTf gc for next to find and move on. Do not disturb the mushrooms... You don't need too!

Searched in the dying light of the day yesterday without luck and thought I'd try again during the day. Back there around lunchtime and searched for another 30 minutes with no joy. I ended up losing the battle to the cutti-grass and blackberry thorns at GZ. Thanks for bringing me to a location I didn't know about though...

met up with nzmama in town who went for this cache last night and couldnt find, so i went out for another look with extra pair of eyes and broudend the surch as the gps was jumpy after a 30 minute surch we gave up. think the cords might be off or the cache got muggled before it got found.
