Fascinating history! Id never heard of a woolshed before. Maybe its a New Zealand thing - in the land of millions of sheep. We enjoyed the drive out here. And enjoyed the cache. Its in great condition. Herr Potter and I are in New Zealand to attend the geocaching Mega-Event that takes place in Dunedin. We started the day in Queenstown and picked up a few caches along the drive. Thanks for hiding and maintaining this cache!
Remarkable ruin reminds me of a ruined cathedral in the Italian countryside near Sienna. Thanks for bringing us here to discover it!Frau Potter and I are visiting New Zealand for the first time. Our first week has been cycling from Queenstown on the Around the Mountains cycle track, with various side trips including kayaking in Milford Sound. We are enchanted by the birds, the landscape and the people! This weekend, we will be in Dunedin for the geocaching mega event. Were looking forward to exploring there, too, and hearing lots of geocaching adventure stories!
Never knew about the ruins! They were very cool looking on a beautiful sunny day!
Thank you for showing us where these "old stones" are located. MacBayMeri and I had heard about this place quite recently, so it was rather exciting to find it. TFTC.
MrMagoo72 and I were returning home and took this alternative route, caching along the way. So glad we decided to stop for this one. I had first heard about this place only a few weeks ago at a talk by the Central Otago Heritage Trust, so it was such a delight to find it here today. Parked up the road and walked back to the tree. I almost gave up and was ready to log a DNF, as I had found a hint item with no cache container and thought that it might have disappeared, but I gave it one last look and found the correct place with the container neatly tucked inside. I certainly did have to get down on hands and knees! A fav vote from me. TFTC.
Took a drive for a pumpkin-buying trip to Millers Flat this afternoon and of course couldn't pass up the opportunity to get some nearby caches. Very cool historical remains! And very nicely done hide under the lovely old apple tree. Left a little treasure - AA. Love geocaching for finding these kind of hidden away interesting places. Tftc.
Yay! TFTC! Came all the way from Vancouver BC Canada to find this cache! lol Thanks for being part of the adventure!
Love the ruins! Nan Ed an apple as a snack! Lol

While planning our Clutha Gold ride from Roxburgh to Miller's Flat, Mrs KC saw a reference to the ruins of an old wool shed, reputed to be, at least, the largest in New Zealand. However, looking at the map, it seemed some distance off the trail, with no obvious way of getting there. Imagine our surprise when saw a turnoff marked "Wool Shed Ruins". I then checked my Garmin and, sure enough, there was a cache nearby, so we set off.
A short time later we arrived at the spot and had good view of the ruins and Mrs KC chatted to a farmer while I went for the cache. The farmer told us that there was a plaque a bit further on with the history of the shed.
All in all a very satisfactory detour, so much so that we abandoned the rest of the planned ride and headed back to Roxburgh.
Many thanks, daywalk, for taking us there.

Rode the Clutha Gold trail this afternoon from Pinders Pond to Millers Flat. Picked up two caches, the only along the way that we hadn’t previous found. A reasonably quick find. Very interesting history recorded on the board along the road. Thanks for bringing us to this spot. #4903. TFTC.
Quick find but apples not ripe.
Cool day riding from Roxburgh Hydro but the rain has stopped .

First geocash with Ollie! He slept through most of it though. The ruins were pretty cool to see but a shame it wasn't open to the public
No caching during Covid-19 alert levels Level 3 & 4.
This includes virtual waypoints - we need to stay home except for essential outings.
Working together, we can beat delta and keep our community safe.

found Saturday. Spent the weekend at the Millers Flat motor camp. Nice place. Cache nice and dry. Interesting place. pity about no public access. TFTC
Sitting under the apple tree with anyone but me..anyone but me cheers for the smiley
A road trip on the way to Cromwell, taking the back road to pick up a few caches along the way.cache all good, nice hide and hint, made for a quick find. Great building and history tftc
Found on our way back from Alexandra. Great to red up the history of this one and look at the remains.
New Zealand is under Level 4 lockdown from today for at least a month, because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
I am disabling all my caches for the meantime to remind people that we MUST break the chain of infection.
Covid-19 is now being spread within the community, person to person. We know that the virus will remain on surfaces like metal and plastic for up to 4 days.
We have only one chance to stop the Covid-19 virus spreading further. This is to BREAK the chain of infection by keeping each household separated completely. During this time each of us MUST keep isolated and only share with the people in our own household.
The best advice is to act as though you are infected... which you might be. We know there are cases in Dunedin... I might be infected and so might you.
If you touch a cache container, you will leave viruses on the plastic, logbook and pen. Those will remain infectious for up to 4 days. Suppose some other person finds the cache tomorrow. They are likely to pick up those viruses and will get infected.
Playground equipment is out of bounds for exactly that reason- touching surfaces can spread infection.
Each of us has to do our bit to save lives. If the Covid-19 virus spreads, a lot of us will die. Maybe your grandmother, or my friend who has just had a bone-marrow transplant.
Stay home, stay safe, let's get to the other side of the pandemic before we go geocaching again.

Driving the shuttle vehicle today while the others bike from Pinders Pond to Lawrence. As I should be faster than them, I will have time to grab a few caches along the way. This was the first. tftc
Many thanks to RayCook for his message about the cache. Annoying, since this cache has stayed in perfect condition until now. But, it turned out to be a great excuse for an Anzac Day bike ride from Beaumont to Pinders Pond, enjoying the fine day and autumn colours.
Discovered the cache away from where it should be, upside down and swaps had started to rust up inside.
The nearby pine hedge has been trimmed fairly recently and I think whoever did that investigated the cache... oh well, at least they did leave it there.
Cleaned container, put in new logbook, added swaps, put it back under cover.

Logbook was not in cache and thus is very wet. Put back together and secure. What an interesting place. Fruity?
Nearly missed this cache while Mr Eve flew past the turnoff. We did the cache down the road and turned back to do this cache. Both of us were pleased we did because this was outstanding to see. How amazing that this structure is still standing. Lets hope it continues to be here for many years to come. Lovely hot day up here today. TFTC Daywalk.
I knew nothing about this place. Was very cool to come across. A shame it’s not accessible. Amazing. Tftc
Amazing old woolshed. Tftc. Interesting history lesson on the telephone too. Who knew
Another very interesting piece of history retold here thanks daywalk. I was so preoccupied with the fresh bird droppings everywhere and what might befall on me that I knelt in some nettles instead. Nice quick find all the same. TFTC # 12,898
Nice spot... interesting history...easy find. We're starting to see good spots from the car!!
A wintery expedition to see if we can locate the elusive Hidden Creatures world turtle.
So much history to be a part of here!

Road trip with annielin and Abbykitt. Day one let's go !!!!!!

Many thanks to all the COs who helped make our geocaching holiday a great success
We left home early April and returned 21 May 2018. We toured from our home base up to a wedding in North Taranaki then carried on heading south right down through wellington and on down the west coast and back up via the eastern side of the alps some times going around in circles. Our aim was to get as many smiley faces on the puzzle caches that we had solved but of course stopping for many traditionals, multies and others as we went. some time we biked the bike trails or walked but mostly by campervan. we enjoyed the quite back country roads, many of them were metal but we just travelled along slowly going from cache to cache. Most caches were in good condition and I will remark if we thought it needs maintence etc.

Up for a couple of days of caching staying in Cromwell. Loved every minute of it.

Checking while passing and added a few swaps - all dry, in good order and the logbook has plenty of pages waiting to be signed. Collected two bags of apples from the two trees which have provided us with lovely apple sauce and stewed apples.
Thanks for the history of this shed and the phones. If it wasn't for geocaching, i would never of known about this place or its history. Thanks for bringing me down this back road from Miller's flat to Rox. More people need to know of the history of this area.
Beautiful day for caching. Thank you for bringing us to these ruins, very interesting
Not often traveling the 'true' left bank of the Clutha. Took the side road to reach the GZ and found the prize. Box fell out with a tap and SL. Excellent craftmanship from the the budding stonemasons gets a tick from me. Checked over the swag and returned to hide just as a tripod K-9 came over to eye me up. TFTC
Fascinating read thank you. I love it when caches come with some stories of the past. Neat spot - Im glad no one drove passed me trying to get this one ( heavily pregnant trying to manoeuvre my way into this hiding spot) - just to get the cache packed away and back to the car to find I had packed my own cell phone into the cache
Knelt on an old apple now I smell of fermented apple. Love the old shearing shed.
Fantastic route back home. Picked up another GC. This one I could see from the car. Yes, def a scramble to get. Cheers
Staying at Miller's Flat Campground. Now the weather has cleared we decided to do a drive down the Millennium Track road to Beaumont , drive along the main highway to Miller's Flat & collect a few caches along the way to add to our holiday talley. Thanks to the cache owners for placing caches along the way. The Clutha is certainly "awesome " . Awesome ruins, beautiful design. TFTC
Liked finding this cache, Mum drove up the road to turn around and on the way back we got a good view of the ruins, TFTC
Once here I was glad that I made the slight detour. It would have been an impressive building in its time.
Heading to Central so decided to go the back way from Millers Flat to Roxburgh and get a few caches. TFTC
I wondered how Phones fitted into this but once on the spot it made sense. While i was travelling this trip around this loop in our old red beetle, i had hoped to find them all but two DNF so far but at least this was a lucky one., even if it was a sort of a crawl. All was well with this cache. Thanks for the cache and another smiley face
A quick park and grab on while on my way home from Cromwell. Left Cromwell early today so I had time to stop and get a few caches that I have been past many time and never had time to stop. So TFTC
Great hide J! Had to pry it out with pokey tool. And I knelt in a mushy apple that wasn't entirely alone lol. Swapped out premium swap from the inventory. TFTC
Tftc - never knew this old woolshed was here - such a shame that parts are now destroyed but lovely to see what remains
Picked up Winglen's Woolly Baabaa's geocoin here and will drop off soon. TFTC.
A nice wee cache on way home down the back road. Kids spotted it straight away. An awesome cache.
Easy find but not nice to crawl through the rotting apples. The smell on the hands will last a while
Wow! What a neat site and a great cache. Ticks all the boxes - a fav from us. TFTC
