I had planned on going caching all weekend, but it had been raining cats and dogs. Literally. So now I am terribly behind on my cosmic quest: fuelling up the aliens' space ship.Today the weather finally looked fine to me, quite windy, but with a warm wind and fast moving clouds travelling the blue sky. So I made my way down to Huntly to increase my tally. I have cached in Huntly before, so I know that there are some very enjoyable caches hidden down here. And I was not disappointed. The weather was mostly perfect with the warming sun and the strong warm wind, but I experienced a few showers in between. Luckily I always managed to get some shelter from the horizontal rain behind trees and what not, and the showers lasted only for short periods.Followed my phone and looked for the big tree, that worked. Nice hide. Found an old car. Unbelievable. Thanks for hiding and maintaining. Tftc
It took me a bit of backwards and forwarding to find the way to GZ but I got there eventually. I was very glad of the updated hint, which helped me identify where to look.
Thanks for putting this here

Out for a long weekend mega adventure with team SEAC. Great to find parts of no we’ve not been to before. TFTC.
Last year, Team SEAC members went on a road trip down to Cambridge to clear out as many of the caches in that town and its surrounding areas. On the way home from that trip, we stopped off in Huntly to do the night cache. After completing the night cache, we vowed to come back to Huntly and grab as many of the caches in that area as we could. Today was that day.
After a short walk over to GZ, we started searching for this lonely cache. It soon received some long-awaited love and attention when we finally found it.
The log was signed as Team SEAC in order to preserve log space.

Labour Weekend has historically been a minimum 3 day Team SEAC all out adventure so a little while ago I started planning some fun for us. After a walking day yesterday, today was a driving one and more about the numbers and clearing out an area we have had our eyes on for a while. Ended up being a massive day (left home around 8.30am and got home at 1:40am!)....it wasn't called a Mega Mysterious Weekend for nothing. Enjoyed the fun with friends...just like the 'old' times.
How come this one hasn't been found in quite a long time?? Find it today we did! We also found a car....its amazing the items we have found on this trip alone...tv, couch, car, brand new kittens to name just a few of the things!
Thanks for the cache

In the absence of a MEGA event this Labour Weekend, Keylev had spent some time planning a Mega Mysterious Weekend for members of Team SEAC (a group of cachers from south and east Auckland who often cache together). Today's plan was to head south and find as many caches as we could around the Huntly area. In the group today is HeMaLuDy, Stik-a-Crane, NurseDr, Keylev, UncleSamNZ, Liverkiwi. Logs were sighed SEAC or Team SEAC to save space. It ended up being a long day and a bit - leaving the start point at 9 am and returning home after 1:30 am the following day.
No motorbikes today, but we did find the cache and a very abandoned car
No motorbikes today, but we did find the cache and a very abandoned car
Day 2 of our Labour weekend caching mission, and also happens to be a significant day for me yearly...... Our group decided to head down Huntly way for a good variety of cache types and then head inland and back up to Auckland.....some of use a little jaded from the impromptu high elevation gain hike yesterday, we eased ourselves into search mode.....
Signed is as SEAC to save logbook space and allowing us more time to enjoy the area which surprised us as to how many scenic places are hiding in Huntly....
Thanks to all the CO's for hiding and maintaining caches here.....and to mother nature for the awesome weather we had......
Also located an abandoned car further into the bush area here....

Out with Team Seac for another day of adventures. We did a full day of caching on the Saturday with a long hike! And decided to head down to Huntly for the day. I really enjoyed my time around here, and would like to come back again. Some us finished at 10pm, some finished at 1amish!
Sorry for the generic logs. Thank you for taking the time to place this cache.
Out with KeyLev, HeMaLuDy, Stik-a-crane, NZTravellers, LiverKiwi, NurseDr. All logs signed “Team Seac” or similar to save log paper.

A lot further away than I thought, A long way round the corner . Spent 5 minutes trying to work out updated hint. Gave up and went back to the original hint and trusted my GPS for a quick find. Only 2 more to go around the lake.
Checked a couple of hint objects then dropped lucky. Who are they trying to keep out with hawser fence? King Kong? I notice some of the local are really into dumping rubbish. TFTC.
Had a great day in Huntly picking up some caches. The weather was beautiful and giving us a taste of summer. Thanks to all the COs for taking me to Huntly’s interesting places TFTC
Its just wonderful the places geo caching takes you too ..Thanks Mc Clan for the senic your
Huntly sure is putting on good weather for us. We enjoy visiting here. Find a way in took a couple of goes but cache all good. Even had a view if the lake. Thanks for bringing us here McCutchen cache Clan
Found as a part of a previous group TanjackMüley, aka WanderingSparrow. Now I'm continuing on my own. TFTC
There were a few new caches and I solved some old ones, so I had to make a trip down to Hamilton to clear off my plate. My first stop was in Huntly.
This cache has given me lots of grief over the years. I noticed that it had been replaced and several people found it, so I took the opportunity to turn the frown upsidedown. TFTC.

Thanks for the lovely Replacement....BOPJAM or Buttonbo .
Was about worried as people had mentioned rampant dogs and kids....but not too bad.
Hardest thing was finding the access!
A guy called out from his backyard to ask I had a spare lighter!!!
Lol.
Lovely wee forest and great tree..

Out with team BOPnJAM today to knock off the long anticipated 52.
Now the 52 is done and dusted, we were able to concentrate on the rest of the Huntly caches including many pre-solved puzzles caches.
We spent a long time looking for this cache and with the good hint and description we were a little perplexed as to why we couldnt find anything except the bag Gorby mentioned.
Eventually we found a nice new cache, so signed the top of the log.
I was glad to get away from the area, as it wasnt a very desirable place to visit and I really didnt want to leave the vehicle parked in this street any longer.

Out for a day's caching with Team BOPnJam. What? there are lakes in Huntley!!!!
We went for a wander around the lakes and the rest of Huntley and found what we could find, only a couple of DNF's for the day, pretty happy and not so late night.
As Phillip said, slightly concerning that this one was awol, but smiles all round as the new cache was found.

A crew from BOP and Jag50 and I teamed up to become BOPnJam and hit Huntly to get numbers for the Hidden Creatures souvenirs. The weather played nice for us and we had a pretty successful day with only a couple of dnfs. We found the plastic bag Gorby found, but just to be sure all 7 of us spread out and checked every tree just to make sure the cache hadn't moved... PP then found that nice new cache container and clean log exactly where the hint said it should be
We joined up with a team from the BOP and Merlot58 to collect caches for the Hidden Creature souvenirs. Signed the logs as BOPnJAM to save room on the log. With 7 of us we all searched and searched and eventually a cache was located as per the hint.
Out with teambopnjam for the day caching plan for today was to do the pick up 52 trail and all of Huntly then we headed back to Hamilton via highway 1B collecting caches and a few in Hamilton then home to bed we were home by 10pm so not to late . Great day only had a few DNF for the day so fairly happy with that.

Another big trip planned this time in an effort to obtain all the Hidden Creature Souvenirs. Team BOP (Davidson clan, McJandals, Frogybecaching, TNXPro & myself) joined with a couple of Westies (Jag50&Merlot58) to fill up the van and clear Huntly off the caching map We signed the logs as BOPnJAM for expedience and to save on log space.
It's been nearly 2 years since there was a confirmed find on this cache which was a little worrying but that only made us more determined to find this one. 7 of us entered the tree line after dissecting a very specific hint. We found Gorbys bag but honestly I wasn't content with that so our search continued. Eventually we found a shinny new cache with a fresh log inside hidden exactly as the hint described...….. We had a great day and the weather was pretty good too. Cheers McCutchan Cache Clan, TFTC.

With Hidden Creature souvenirs up for grabs. A plan was hatched with our Westie buddies. We were all ready for a stormy rainy day but the weather gods were good to us today with no rain until getting home at 10pm. A fun day was had by all and many thanks To all the COs for giving us a reason to come here. We had a nice mixture of cache containers, types, DTs and hides. We signed as BOPnJAM to save room on the logs. Please excuse my cut and paste logs in advance due to numbers. Cheers
No luck here what so ever.
Tried various trees and expanded my search but eventually had to give up. Had JUST vacated the area and realised that I had lost my glasses.
SO THE REAL search started as I DO need these glasses. Luckily made a quick find of these.... am relieved to walk away with a DNF and STILL have my glasses

I followed the hint instructions implicitly arriving at said tree, I couldn't see the cache even after expanding the search a little, I did see however a plastic bag at the tree and did wonder if this might be the remnants of the cache???? I have logged a found it anyway and took a foto of the bag and tree if the C.O. wishes to see it.
Second time here and just enough time before work to go for a very quick stroll to gz.

Out and about today for a spot of cache detection around the North of the Waikato. I was keen to revisit this cache after my DNF back when the cache was MIA. I parked up and made the short walk to GZ. Coordinates were bang on for me today and I soon spied the hide as it was rather exposed. After completing the formalities I recovered with some natural camo. Cheers for the cache placement and maintenance efforts!
I had a pretty good look around based on the new hint, but still didn't find the cache. I did receive a tiny scratch which made me stop searching. Do not look at the attached picture if you are squeamish.
No luck with this one today. Hint seemed to make sense, but no dice. Might need a CO check.
Saw that this one was back in action. Was hoping it would be still unfound by the time I got here, as want to find a cache that hasn't been found for a year.
Although it had been found during the week (I had a word with SquirelNutcase about this, earlier in the day), I decided to still find it and the other trads in Huntly, I'd not done when down here before. TFTC

7.10pm - Found this time, wasn't here before when we visited. Cache out in open so covered it up on returning.
On the road again... with Gap (of Fap and Gap). After conquering part of the Hakarimata Track and the 1000+ steps; we turn our attentions to finding some newer caches and others that formerly didn't want to be found...
This one evaded us on a previous visit. We found a park and quickly headed to ground zone. Fortunately, the neighbours were on the way out, so it didn't look at all suspicious with two men heading into the bushes... TFTC.

After a DNF at another Huntly location I came here having been unable to conduct a search on our last visit due to muggles ridding bikes up and down the tree line. No such issues this time, although we were in a hurry so I had to run to and from GZ dodging tyres, piles of lawn clipping and upsetting a dog or two along the way. Thanks to the descriptive hint the cache was quickly found.

I didn't even attempt this one and feel Maintenence needs to be posted.
Last found ... Oct 2013 ???
DNF's since then!
I believe CO lives just around the corner and wondering if they could pop around and check please.
Cheers.

Day 3, of my 3 day caching trip, in Huntly & Ngaruawahia.
Today was dedicated to walking round the lakes and finding as many Huntly caches as I had time for.
Had a good search around all the possible, and not so possible items that could fit the hint. Only thing I found was a golf ball.

A big day of caching today... We have plans to clear out a few caches around Huntly, attend our event in Ngaruawahia... and most importantly, have A Night of Terror in the Hakarimatas. Gap (of Fap and Gap) and I have started early...
Our only DNF on this side of the river. There are only six or seven big trees through here, so it's not a huge search area. Hasn't been found in a year, so likely to be missing.

My GPSr kept pushing me towards the ditch. I checked a few of the places in the hint, but then a whistling muggle came by and seemed to be too interested in what I was doing, so I stopped my search.
Having finished the Kiwi Art Project trail, Vamber and KiwifruitNZ headed out to secure a few more local Huntley caches.
Found GZ but it was too dark. Will return in daylight.

Thanks for the hint. We also encountered the hound, but he was all bark and well tied in his property. On the way back he was curled up on the back step and didn't see or hear us. Cache was wet, logbook still signable, but could do with a day in the sun, or an hour in front of the heater. We've let the McCutchans know, as our next stop was....
Blackberry, mosquitoes, long damp grass - this cache has them all. Cache soon in hand.
This is more of an we attempted note...because as we crossed the park one of the local "Hounds of the Baskervilles" actually jumped the fence and was only prevented from chasing us by a thin chord ...we aborted at that point..
This was another find for the day with Cats & Dragons. Planning on collecting all the caches in Huntly today between the to of us. TFTC. A quick run to GZ and cache was in had. cache in good condition
Thankfully muggle free today as it took a while - must have overlooked it at least twice before the find! Def needed the hint, coz our gps had us going in circles. Tftc
Parked around the corner and headed off to GZ. Yes the co-ords are out a little but used the clue to narrow the search area. TFTC
The moment we parked children appeared to ask what we were doing, where we were going, why? t4tc
Parked at Lake Weavers Museum and walked here, as we were doing caches around the lake. Coords were a bit out, but clue was enough. TFTC.
A quick find on our walk around Lake Weavers while doing other caches in the area. Coords abit out but managed to find the cache once we extended our search area. TFTC!
We were in the Waikato for the weekend to attend the 'Why not an Event Cache' and this was on 'to find' list. It was early morning so no one was around. GPS initially has us looking at the wrong tree but it didn't take us too long to find what we were looking for. TFTC.
With the wind this afternoon it was lifting the dust off the recently tilled ground creating a big dust storm.
Out: TB.
Cheers for the cache.

Out with Boges and Geocooley. Started walking down the fenceline and met a couple of "friendly" dogs before realising there was a decent track on the otherside of the trees - doh!
Many thanks
Many thanks
7130 Headed just around the corner for a quick find… great spot to clean our dirty boots. TFTC
Glad to get this off the list . Lots of rubbish around. Took the wrong track first. Co-ords about 12m out.
Went the wrong side of the river to start with. Took a while with poor GPS accuracy. Lots of rubbish here and there. TFTC
After realising the cache was on the other size we decided to go get lunch. Will be back another day for this one.
Indeed. Tricky little find.
In the area for a FTF!!

4177 Surprised to find we were only the third to find this cache, which has been listed for two weeks and has only been found by non-locals! Sorry if we spoilt it for all the locals but maybe they are busy elsewhere? TFTC
FTF!!! Our 2nd ftf. Some how we beat all the local ftf finders, where is everyone??? We gave a toot when we were leaveing the area TFTC.
Well done on the FTF.
I was on a Hamilton Ulysses Poker run today and just so happened to ride not far from here. However couldnt stop as we missed the 1st Stop and were in a hurry to catch up. One consolation. Managed to most Kms travelled in the day ( 377 kms) when we should have done 305kms. Yes we got lost !!
