WA Big Trip Winter 2024. Day 12 - Port Lincoln to Elliston via several small roadside spots. After my travels down the east side of the Eyre Peninsula showed me more and bigger towns than I expected, on todays travels up the west side of the peninsula, there were a few settlements, but they were all very small and it is much windier on this side. Elliston where I stayed the night at the golf course RV park, was smaller than any of the other regional council towns I have visited, but they did have a nice pug where I had dinner. The days caching was pretty much all roadside caching until the end with some of the Elliston caches being out on coastal cliffs and the jetty. Things are getting more outback every day now.Today was mostly roadside stops where I squeezed the van onto the edge of the road or a parking bay and walked the remaining distance to the cache. Found with no issues today. Thanks for the cache wheres_wolly_sharon46680.10 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & 2012 NZ MEGA A#240**Albida**
On a day drive to Coffin Bay. Seen lot's of videos of the area. Good to be here in real life. Highlight of the day was seeing 4 emus walking around the main Street in town.
Found while visiting Port Lincoln for the week. Today I did a loop around town, then headed out to complete a circuit along the Flinders and Tod Highways out to Wanilla, and returning to Lincoln along the unsealed backroads. Thanks for the cache wheres_wolly_sharon!
Staying in Port Lincoln for a few days, checking out the town and caching as we go. Visited Coffin Bay and the National park there today. Lots of emus and kangaroos seen around the park here, great views from the lookouts too. This cache is one that was found on the way.

Staying at North Shields cp. Heading to Coffin Bay for lunch & picking up a few caches. Just all log books relatively new & in good condition. Tftc
One good thing that has come out of the Covid situation, is the need to holiday in your home state. With a week or so to spend away, we decided to head to Port Lincoln - a place we had not visited before. Our second day in the area was spent exploring the Coffin Bay area, and what better way to find all the interesting spots, than to find the caches which had been hidden.
A nice easy find. TFTC

As our journey took us further south while travelling with ilook4geo, we had to pick up a few caches along the way. There was no problem in locating the caches on the run sheet for the day and each found log was signed. All was then replaced as found and we were on our way again. Thanks go to wheres wolly for placing this cache.
On our way to Port Lincoln with goingplaces2 and doing some caching as well. No Problem in finding this one, log was signed, all was replaced. Job done! TFTC.
Thank you for the placement of this cache wheres wolly find number 7341 at 14 February 2021 3:33 pm
Well it’s 2021 and I have finally said good bye to a not so great 2020 and it was great to finally be able to have a reasonable holiday as I have not had a decent break since 2019.
Made to South Australia and finally crossing the boarder and then being greeted by a couple of very friendly SA police offices for which i had the official paper work to allow me to enter.
After making my way west along the Eyre Hwy I went as far as Penong and the Eyre Hwy which I have not travelled along since the late 70’s when I was on a holiday with my folks and this was the last holiday before I started full time work as a sparkie and finding a few caches as I go.
Geocaching when towing a van is not always easy and I have to be a bit selective on which ones I decide to try and find for safe parking purposes especially along busy highways.
So after leaving Venus Bay my next destination is Coffin Bay NP which is down the bottom of Eyre Peninsular off the Flinders Hwy.
I’m hoping for when I set up camp the weather improves but at least I’m in a van and not having to set up canvas.
Well the weather has improved but not as much as I hoped for as there is still rain showers just when it looks like it is getting better.
I had an early appointment in Port Lincoln so I set off early in the morning to find a few caches heading in as Port Lincoln will be my next stop on this trip but it would be to hard to find these ones with the van behind so I did them this morning.
I remember being in my early twenties seeing Redgum at a few bush dances a Latrobe Uni they were such fun nights.
Another quick find.
Thanks wheres wolly TFTC.

On my Elliston-Pt Lincoln leg of my round Eyre Peninsula caching odyssey. A quick find. Sad that they probably tried to ban the only 19 song as it was pretty much spot on about the experiences of our conscripted youths. Thanks wheres wolly.
Quick find when the GPS was followed. Cache in terrible condition so I placed into a zip lock with some paper as a makeshift log as it was all I had.

This weekend, I joined gridge98 on a trip to Eyre Peninsula, primarily visiting Port Lincoln and its surroundings. We saw its famous marina full of trawlers, and we also ended up visiting Coffin Bay and enjoyed fresh oysters. A nice weekend with weather, and certainly a great vicinity to see.
Today, our plan was to head to the west side of Eyre Peninsula to Coffin Bay, and have lunch there. We enjoyed kilpatrick oysters (hopefully fresh?), before making our way north through Mount Dutton Bay, Farm Beach, and Coulta, and calling into Greenly Bay. We then looped back east through Koppio and Whites Flat, stopping off for a steep hike to North Block also. An enjoyable day to be out and about, with highlights being the coastal towns and views, and hills hike.
A short walk in from the main road, and I managed to have a quick find at GZ. The cache container is quite rusted away, and the logbook was wet and starting to get mushy, so this cache certainly needs attention soon. Thanks wheres wolly for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

From Port Lincoln we drove on to Elliston today. Wow! There it has quite great beaches and many beautiful coastal sections. In many of these places we were also able to find a geocache. Thank you to the owners for the caches !
Found while participating in the 2019 BikeSA Annual Tour. A quick stop and find, thanks wheres wolly. The nearby flora fascinated me.
After spending a terrific weekend with EsromL in Port Lincoln, exploring Coffin Bay And Port Lincoln NPs and the Memory Cove WPA, it was time to head west.
I had no real plan, but wanted to check out a few interesting-looking places, find a few caches I had targeted and pick up any other opportunistic caches along the way.
This was my first cache for the day, found soon after leaving Port Lincoln this morning.
Thanks wheres wolly for the cache.

I was down in Pt Lincoln with Laighside Legends for the long weekend and our plan was to head out and cache our way towards Coffin Bay and the surrounding area. It was a warm and pleasant day to be out and all caches that were found were in reasonably good condition. As it got close to the midday event we bumped into Mr Tardis and one of the nearby caches. The nearby event was an enjoyable affair, joined my Aussie M&M, Mogni and Mr Tardis, food was eaten and stories were swapped. At the close of the event, we continued to cache around the area before finally heading back to Lincoln for an evening event. It was an enjoyable evening at the pub to end the days caching before heading back to our accommodation in preparation for our next days caching.

Found at 4:11 PM GAFF1 in the company of maccamob. We signed the log book as "M&P".
We could see the big redgums in the paddock across the road and were wondering why the sagging limbs weren't being torn off with the strong cold wind of today.
Thanks wheres wolly.

Found by Mary & David, in company with pprass (signed as m & p), at 1610. Stayed at Port Lincoln last night. Today, we cached our way across to Coffrin Bay for an oyster lunch, then cached our way back to Port Lincoln again. Managed to avoid the worst of the weather. Beautiful trees around here, even if they aren't red gums. Our thanks to wheres wolly.
Cache was found in the last place we looked, which as usual was not the first place we looked. Thanks for a fun cache guys. Love your work. We signed the logbook.

We found this cache as part of a 4 day trip which went from Adelaide to Sceale Bay returning to Adelaide. The purpose of the trip was to remove Freddo was his home location too near the Clipsal 500 track and for us and Freddo to achieve a difficulty 4 1/2 and terrain 4 cache to make us well rounded cachers. The cache we needed to find was located near Venus Bay and we successfully completed this goal early on Friday morning which left us plenty of time to find "just one more". Loved the scenery and having the opportunity revisit this great area Thanks to wheres wolly for placing this cache.
There's some wet logs in rusty tins out this way; a sign of their longevity as caches. Thanks wheres wolly.
TFTC.13.20. From Perth to Melbourne is our last vacation journey in Australia, along this route, we look for caches. Greetings from the Netherlands
I've met up with Triciac2 in Perth, because we are taking a 3 week driving tour to Adelaide We've had a couple of fun days caching in the company of her son Brother Colin, but he has now headed back to Brisbane, and we have begun our drive east. We have travelled from Perth via Brookton, Corrigin, Hyden, Ravensthorpe, Hopetoun, Esperance, Kalgoorlie, Norseman, the Nullarbor Plain and Ceduna
Now heading east on the Flinders Hwy to Port Lincoln. Coffin Bay was a rest stop, and we collected a couple of caches. As we headed east again, I was keen to grab this one, as I have a cache in Brisbane based on the song I Was Only 19 [^] (http://coord.info/GC3HN95) A short walk from the road and I had the cache quickly in hand. TFTC, wheres wolly.

I remember well the band called Redgum.
The haunting lyrics of their songs have stuck with me through the years.
I may never have been to Vietnam,
but the lyrics gave everyone a good idea of what it must have been like to be there !! [:o]
At GZ there were no wars mentioned at the end of this Redgum Track
There was a well hidden cache to find though
[green]And can you tell me, doctor, why I still can't get to sleep?
And night-time's just a jungle dark and a barking Eclipse Tin ?
And what's this rash that comes and goes, can you tell me what it means?
God help me, I was only caching !! [/green]

Spent too long looking in the wrong place here - should have read the clue dummy!!!
A beautiful little clearing with a lovely smell. Have noticed this smell at other caches in the area and finally picked one of those white and yellow flowers that abound in the area. Would be interesting to know what they are as they certainly are pretty and pleasant to the nose. Hope they're not a weed.
Thanks for the smiley.
