A big wander for me today. We are staying in Hampden for a few days and I looked at this area on the geo map and saw loads worthy of a 4ish hour walk. The tracks are a mixed bag but mostly good and clear thanks to who ever comes in with a chainsaw to chop up the fallen trees after strong winds.Just be careful of all the wild blackberry vines everywhere - just a few ripe for the picking today - yum.Should have read the cache name instead of looking at my arrow lolTFTC
After digging around in some prickly bushes, I realized I was looking in the wrong spot. After I looked around, the location was obvious. Easy find after that.
I would love to have had the bike on the roads, but alas not anymore but managed to get a smiley
My Garmin wanted to sent me off in a direction that visually didn't look right. A visual scan of the area on arrival showed a much more promising target. It took a bit more than a quick scan to reveal the obvious. All good here. Thanks.
This was the first find with a walking group- my device also suggested that GZ was in the opposite direction, but from the title there was only one place it could be.
A nice quick find exactly where you would think it is in perfect condition.... took tb
Off to do the other half of the track. Did the Podocarp half yesterday but no time to do loop and find caches at the same time.
On a three week trip to the lower South Island with tmann421 hunting caches.
Enjoyed the trip around and the challenge of the finds.

A planned geocaching trip with specific targets in mind.
1: The final 2 caches to fill my D/T grid
2: The last 5 caches available (all in the South Island) to meet the NZ Jasmer challenge GC4R9Z6
3: Get as many caches as possible in a day (Solo)
I had no timetable and only a vague route (Christchurch - Dunedin- Invercargill). So after 20 days of sleeping in my tent/car I arrived home having traveled 4500km and visited some interesting places. Met some great people. I had found over 650 caches. That was a lot of park. Jump out out. Find cache sign and return. Then on to the next. All this done by myself. Also attended an event and had 2 FTF
Mission 1 and 2 were achieved and I had a best day of 153 caches. All this done by myself.
Day 13 Dunedin to Herbert Forest 25 caches. All targets have been met. A car parked at GZ but they must have gone for a walk. Thank you for the

Yay, an obvious location based on the cache name. Decent gate they have here too! Down we go with Karma Reprint and Kiwi Legend, signed as K^3LMR (or some variant). Cheers
A very pleasant walk in the forest with Kiwi Moose and Karma Reprint. Signed as K^3LMR Thanks.
A day off before the Geofest so out to collect a few caches. Thanks to all the Owners that have been out and about maintaining them for this busy weekend.
We are staying at Herbert. I wanted to check this road out for future visits. So we are finding Geocaches along here.
Find out more about New Zealand's next big event [Oamaru Geofest](http://oamarugeofest2017.wixsite.com/geocachingevent) and come and join us.
Thanks. Bitsprayer for putting in the effort to hide this geocache. This was find 5131 for me.

Had a good chat with some muggles on horseback about the conditions in the creek following the recent rain, yup my very wet feet were testament!

I decided today to blitz as much of the Herbert Forest as I could within a day. With Hevic in tow, we found reasonably good success. This one took longer than it should have, largely thanks to a friendly family of muggles and their four-legged muggle friends (well, maybe; are horses muggles? Who knows how much they know... ). Once they'd left we found the cache with ease, which was rather treasured as we hadn't much time left. Cheers!
An enjoyable walk through the forest and along the Hoods Creek and Podocarp tracks today, lots of caches found. This was the first one, an easy find using the cache name although the coordinates are not all that accurate. Signed log, TFTC
Took us a while to figure out this one - just needed to read the name

The weather was so beautiful that we desided to drive to the Herbert forest for the trail. We walked along the first loops and came back along the creek. It is a nice daywalk for about 6 hours. Thanks for all the boxes on the track
Today we got up early and went out for a bit of hunting little boxes.
It was a perfect day, neither hot nor to chilly.
We arrived at the car park at 10am and started the big loop.
Our journey got us on the Swallows-Track, the Podocarp-Track, the Hoods-Creek-Track and back on Breackneck Road.
With two stops about an hour in total, it took us about 7 hours searching and walking.
Almost all of the caches were pretty good to find and the hints were helpful.
As visitors to that beautiful country we enjoy tracking and this loop was a nice walk close to our homebase.
We like to thank drawp, Bitsprayer and Froogal for all the work and maintenance.
And the many good reasons to come to visit this place!

Found at 2:35:00 p.m. on 12/01/2015.
Out having a couple of days camping with the family on the coast between Dunedin and Oamaru. Of course this gives me a chance to pick off a few caches along the way.

Co-ords had us in the middle of the road and after a bit of a think we came up with the smiley. Found with Aoraki Sheep and Hall-way
Co-ords were useless for us so, we had a quick search around some rather large rocks before we clicked to where it could be and then soon had the cache in hand. Found with debsnz and Hall-way
Parked the truck and then went round in circles. Found with debsnz and AorakiSheep. #617
cache uncovered by Mr daywak after a bit of circling - great start to a most pleasant walk - TFTC!!
This series has been on out 'must do' list for some time. A warm fine day predicted, found Hinemoana and some Caching Assistants willing to come walking. Here we are at the carpark waiting for our GPSs to get over their vertigo from the car ride, but of course a GPS isn't needed for this one.
We walked up the Hoods Creek track, had lunch at the top, and came back down Rodmans Rd which completes the loop at the firepond junction (Hoods Fire Control). Back early afternoon which left time for a bit more caching on the way home! See the WAMS map for a forestry road map http://wams.org.nz/wams_desktop/index.aspx.

JRB5050 and I left Dunedin at noon to come to do Hoods Track today and the other part of the loop starting from Swallow Track tomorrow. It was a brilliant day, no wind and really warm. We walked for two hours, mindful of the need to turn back before the light got too low. Sadly we didn't make the complete Hoods Track today, but we certainly made a good start. Thanks so much for creating such a tempting loop walk of caches.

Our two GPS's had us looking on the other side of the road. Read the previous log and then thought 'duh' as well, moved our search to the appropriate area and 'voila' there it was! Time for a Christmas morning tea and then off into the forest we go...
Spent some time searching in long grass... well that's where my GPS suggested I look for this one. There was great potential for hay fever so I retreated and decided that a better clue might just be in front of me. Some times the obvious is hard to see !
I must have looked funny - wandering from one area to another - GPS just couldn't decide which way to go.
Thought I should consult the cache description - doh!! quickly found when I realised what the cache was called

It took us ages to find this one! I don't know whether it was because of the heat getting to both Geomum and I, or whether it was well-hidden or what, but it definitely took us longer than expected. Nonetheless, Geomum made the find as I slumped against the car and claimed it was way too hot to be out caching, thanks!
Parked up got the boots and gaiters on and then found this one in quick time.

First of many on a lovely walk in the Herbert forest with Kakariki. The sun was about, but we spent most of the day down in the shade.

A great start to a wonderful series. Will log most as easy find but there were a couple of tricky one worth mentioning and a final of note!
Found it on a beautiful sunny afternoon. Had been exploring further into the forest. Found some of the other caches but didn't have a pen to log our visits so will come back another day.
A quick easy find at the end of the road with the name, but our coordinates were a bit different at S45 14.418 E170 45.402. TFTC
