Today we decided to stay closer to home and learn a bit about the copper mining history of Moonta. Of course, we knew there would be caches at all the important places and we were not let down.
Interesting ruins, but couldn't find the cache. Gave it a good look, but either cache blindness had struck or it's gone.
Worth noting that it looks like some clearing works are going on near GZ.

Might be buried in the shrubbery, looked everywhere. Extremely dense thicket where i assumed it was. Sorry!
Took some looking and watch out for deep burrows. Just walking and the tunnel collapsed under foot.
I have been to Moonta before and the ruins around here make for fascinating viewing especially with the interpretative boards.
A hot and windy day but a short hike and I had your cache in my hands.
Cheers

Today we explored Moomta and Wallaroo using Geocaching as a guide and picking up a few caches on the way and this was one of them. An easy find at GZ.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

Nice find but desperately needs some maintenance the log is rusty!! TFTC great spot
Coruze and I went to Moonta and grabbed a few caches. What a fascinating piece of history surrounds this area. Being of Cornish descent (way back) I thoroughly enjoyed my time here, and took heaps of pics.
Thanks BrettnJames

Found with the company of troobloo and muggle.
Cache is in bad condition and needs attention. The area was facinating and we thoroughly enjoyed checking it all out. Thanks for the fun!

Visiting from Canberra to see my BFF for a week or so. We decided to head out to Moonta and grab a couple caches, in particular I was chasing the Virtual in Moonta as they are not so common here in Australia.
We visited a couple different shafts today while picking up the 5 geocaches. Love visiting the old ruins of places and this one was just as interesting. No issues locating the cache for this one, signed and replaced. Thanks for bringing us here BrettnJames

We had a wonderful time staying at Sims Cove beachfront villas at Moonta. Geo-daughter found this one for me. Log is very wet

A quick easy find while making our way around the place enjoying the sights. As mentioned by previous finders this cache is in need of some owners intervention (or maybe the next finder could bring a suitable container.)

As our time in Wallaroo is rapidly coming to an end we decided to have one last day caching around some more of Yorkes. Today we chose to head to Arthurton and then across the Peninsula to Port Hughes and Moonta/Moonta Bay.
So much history and so much to learn
A million thanks for showing us this area BrettnJames[^]

Hi there BrettnJames.
We found your cache **"No longer the big smoke Mr. Hughes."** at 12:44:00 PM today.
This was our 7th find for the day and this makes our find count 13058.
The aim of today's cache run was to visit some of the mine workings around Moonta and to attempt a couple of multi's and a solved puzzle. As the temperature was nudging 32 degrees today we cut our cache run short so we could relax in air conditioned comfort with a cool drink.
At the end of the run our final total was 7 finds and 2 DNF's.
**Coordinate Accuracy:** We found your cache around 2m from where the GPS said we should be looking.
**Cache Condition:** Container is in good shape, but **the log book is very damp and the listed trackable "Iolanthe's Siren" is not in the cache,** could BrettnJames (or the Trackable owner) please "Mark the Item as Missing" so it can be removed from the cache inventory. This option is under Actions on the trackable's web page).
**Took:** Nothing.
**Left:** Smiley Badge.
Thanks for the hunt today,
Regards
Ian & Penny.

This cache has stood the test of time, but perhaps could now use a replacement container. Contents waterlogged, cache must be rusted away a little at the lid seal and is leaky.
Unable to write on too wet. We tipped out the water but didn't have anything to dry it out sorry.
Log needs replacing now, very very wet, we were unable to sign to pic if needed. TFTC cheers

Day fourteen of the short holiday with Bettyboo3747.
A day for breathing in the history of Moonta.
Lots of old mines, stone buildings, and rusting engineering stuff.
It is a pity that more building and chimneys weren't left standing like this one. We got some good photos with an angry sky behind.
We toured all the boards working our way around to GZ.
btw, the log is soaked, but still writable.
Thanks, Robmc.

# 9470. Sadly, I only have one entire day in Moonta and there is so much to do and see. I love this historic area and definitely need to and will come back here. Tomorrow we head to Broken Hill for more adventures.
Another mining multi at a most impressive mine site - the chimney and engine house looked great with stormy clouds behind. We wandered around for a while before heading to GZ. Maybe the hint should be difficult and prickly. The log book was completely saturated and needs replacing urgently.
Thanks BrettnJames

I note that my TB Iolanthe's Siren is still logged into this cache, and was wondering if someone would please go have a look and see if it's still there? It's an orange whistle. Cheers, IolantheK.
Got out to check out the engine house and realised this was close by. Found quickly, gotta run as the muggle fam are waiting in the car. TFTC!
Took a while but I eventually located it. I was saying to my family how it would have been great to be in the Moonta area while the mines were in full swing!
It's a day trip to Kadina with Dad today to take a look at the Wallaroo Mines and have a nice lunch at the local pub in celebration of his birthday, and JJ52 came with us which was nice .
We ended up in Moonta as well to have a look around at all the old buidings and mining heritage.
At this location we found a cache too, with JJ52 doing the honours.
TFTC BrettnJames!

Was here with Ismartis and her muggle Dad so he could visit the mines and we could do some caching. Loved wandering around the ruins wondering what it would have been like in its heyday. [^] [^]

On a caching assault of the Yorke Peninsular with alansee and Team Crackers over the last six days. We have found many caches which have proven enjoyable and sometimes challenging Alansee had worked diligently in planning routes we would take to minimize wasted kilometres driven to find the numbers we have been able to do. Most logs have been signed as MAC (micaparamedic, alansee and crackers)
Many thanks BrettnJames for placing this cache .

Found with micaparamedic and Team Crackers on our last day on the Peninsula. At least it wasn't in thick stuff.
Another quick stop after a lovely weekend in Moonta. Love getting to see some of the history of this area. Thanks so much!
Today we are heading to the copper triangle to do some caches, we managed around 120 caches over the 2 days we spent here and we saw some fantastic scenery along the way, being the geowifes early childhood stomping grounds i was treated to a lot of history about quite a few of the areas and how much things have changed over time, this was a nice easy find. Touring Australia having left Perth in late February we are leisurely touring South Australia after having attended Oz Mega.
Today was set aside for touring Moonta and Wallaroo. Well we had a long list and after a sleep in and problems loading the GPSr had us not even starting till 0900hrs.
We had a great day and saw lots of historic places and learnt lots about the area. The list was only just started and we never left Moonta till after dark so Wallaroo will have to be tomorrow.
Came here after riding the nearby tourist railway. What a fabulous historical area. Thanks for helping us explore this area.

Today we spent a fantastic day in Moonta exploring the area of the Moonta mine an a bit of the surrounding countryside. We found some fantastic history and some very good hides in the surrounding area.

We love caching around the YP and with the mild weather we enjoyed the opportunity to find this cache. A variety of hides kept us challenged and we spent time taking in the beautiful scenery and the changes that had taken place since our last visit. Nice one. Thanks to BrettnJames.
